Donate Your Old Books

There were times during my elementary and high school days where I have to share my text book with at least 5 more students. We read together, we outline together and work together to make sure it will work. During those times, I was wishing I hope I could have a separate book of my own.

One day, being a son of a teacher in the bario. Me and my siblings visited the place where my mom teaches. We walk hours, we hitched in a truck full of gravels and sand. That time I felt lucky at least we have a library and at least i have one book to share with only 5. Unlike them (pupils of my mom) only have 10 books for all of them.

Fast forward to today, my brother is now teaching to where my mom used to teach. He noticed that the problem way back is still the same as of today. So he decided to solicit books from his classmates way back in his college days. He tapped his friends as well. Apparently, it is not enough to supply for him to create a library for the school.

I decided to help and put up the Project Mountain Alphabet. It envisions to reach out to those schools like my brother's school where he teach. If it is possible to create a library for everyone in the school or even the community to help.

Our first project of course is to help my brother at a good cause. It is hard to collect books from different people as we dont have an office for them to drop off their books. We dont have an office because this is simply a group of friends working together for the common good. It is somehow an extra curricular activities aside from our own work.

TROFI or Truly Reach Overseas Filipino Investors help out and shared a portion of their resources. Somehow, the cash they gave us were used to buy new books, bags, notebooks, and other school supplies. Friends and colleagues from Thomson Reuters help out as well in various ways plus of course volunteering their team to deliver the items to the school and build the shelves in the library.

This time around, we are beginning to collect books one more time, or any donations from everyone to revisit the school. The books you donate or the resources you share will help one school in the mountains to have at least a book to read, to research on. Teachers will teach their students to research. Students will have a chance to learn through the mini library and through the resources you share.

Lets help each other to help communities not fortunate enough to have a decent books to read.

My Personal War on Financial Freedom

I always imagine to land a job on the best companies after college. Thanks for my ambitious attitude I ended up with the best companies in their own crafts. I had the best company in managing people, landed a job in a financial institution under the umbrella of their multimedia services. I was able to help my mom send my sister to the school she wants in college and take the course she dreamed. Own a house through mortgage have a phone for my so called internet/online business and of course have my own pet etc. Is this all that it takes so you could say you are financially free?

At 20, the way I look at financial freedom is to have a job. I thought that having a job will secure me all through out. Of course, we all need a stable job to buy the things we need and sometime the things we want. The job will help us make through the so called personally quest to be financially free. I always thought that Social Security System will provide me with the things I need because I am eyeing for their upcoming pension.

Now at 30, financial freedom struck with a crystal clear realization that all the while I thought I was doing right. Don't get me wrong I am always thinking of how I could juggle for financial freedom when I age incapable of going to work anymore. I always thought that if I pay my Social Security System regularly I will secure my future. Later did I realize it wont but it will be of help to pay your monthly bills.

Here's what I learned along the way.

1. SAVE - Is one of the biggest contributor to you becoming financial capable at the age of 50. So here's how it would look like. Lets say you started working at the age of 25 and you wanted to retire at the age of 50. It would mean you'll have 25 years to save before you retire. Php 500 per pay day can go along way. So when you started working at age of 25 and you regularly save Php 500 of your salary it means that when you reach the age of 50 you'll have approximately Php 300,000 in your bank account. When you say SAVING it means you shouldn't be using it no matter what it takes.

Question is can you retire if you only have SAVINGS? The answer is NO. In my idea, you can't retire if you only have savings because as you age it means your expenses in medicine and doctors fee will increase as well.

When you say savings, you have to consider your daily expenses in the future, health care when you grow old and of course that includes your ability to enjoy the amenities you used to have when you are working like the basic necessities such as phone bills and cable TV.

2. Invest - I learned it the hard way. Investment is really huge factor in securing your financial freedom the moment you retire. I was talking to some of my friends and we were discussing how far we have gone to securing our future or when we retire. I realize that I was so far behind compared to their achievement. I also realized that I lack planning on my SAVINGS and INVESTMENT. When we say investment, my friends refer it an asset that yields MONEY that will add up to your savings. If this is their definition, is GADGET consider an investment? NO when they say investment I learned that it should be long term and it should yield.

I love The Suzy Orman Show and according to her, when making a decision you need to follow simple rule: People First, then Money then Things. Putting this in perspective in terms of investment. I would say that house first then start considering investment that will yield money in the long run.

My Dark Ages in Financial Literacy

Work, work, work, and MORE WORK.... I thought this is what I thought financial freedom should be. If I work, I would have a penny to somehow bring me to financial freedom to the point of buying everything I want.

Fast forward after my university days. Excited as I am to finally have a chance to look for a better job who could at least pay me enough for what I have been dreaming off was the start of my so called dark ages of financial freedom.

I built and plan my career, I made sure that I my timeline and career path is followed strictly... I told myself that each step I successfully made would mean I will land to a better and very well compensated company and with that I will be able to buy whatever I want.

I was able to be successful in reaching the company I ever wanted and the salary I ever wanted. Definitely it is good because I was able to prove that I can make it for as long as I am persistent and definitely hard work along with good career planning. However, it realized the hard way that it is not a guarantee for financial freedom.

Over the weekend, I am chatting with my neighbor about the struggle we have to undergo just for us to get a housing loan. My neighbor is a plain housewife with three elementary kids and a husband who works with a minimum wage. They were able to extend their house, tiled the floor, move the comfort room and had a concrete divider and changed their windows. They accomplished 85% more than what I accomplished.

This is my eye opener that a true financial freedom is not measured by how much is your monthly income but rather it is measured by how much you save out of your salary. I have higher compensation versus them but I am in huge debt, I don't have savings in the bank, and I accomplished only 15% compared to how far they've accomplished in their home improvement.

I told myself that this is the proof of being financially incapable of managing my resources. My future action then would either tell me if I fail the challenge to become financial literate and if I am capable of handling my finances and saving for my future. I wanted to retire at 50. In order to do so, I should have plans on how to achieve such goals.

Coca Cola Philippines Did It Again

Year after year, I am waiting what advertisement Coca Cola Philippines would launch. Last year was a tear jerking short film type of advertisement showing different real life drama from working on the graveyard to working during Christmas and New Years celebration.

Coca Cola marketing genius jumped into using the Filipino Characteristics and used it to its 3 minute advertisement through its Share a Coke Campaign. Personally, the advertisement call us out to continue with the habit that we are used to and use it to our advantage.

It is indeed the Happiest Than You! A real life drama, a very creative advertisement and definitely it is "relatable" to every Filipino.

Where to Eat in Tagaytay

Tagaytay has been my favorite spot for a quick getaway. It is a place where I could definitely be myself. Tagaytay is a place where I am very confident I am more comfortable staying and roaming around. I am confident for many various reason but to top it all, it is the closest to where I grew up when it comes to weather and ambiance of the whole place.

So over the weekend, I had this opportunity to roam around a friend from the US and I am most proud of bringing her to the best places I have known at Tagaytay. A place where she could be herself and definitely a place where she could unwind and have the best of Filipino foods at its finest.

It is by Filipino nature to bring a relative or a friend to a certain place and of course for their visitors to experience what the host loves so much and so that's what we did and I know where exactly I could bring her to have the best experience by far.

Bulalo at its Finest

For every Filipino, I am certain that they have the common knowledge of what Bulalo would look or taste like and maybe everyone has their own technique and style of cooking. One thing is for sure, the longer the beef is boiled and cooked the better the soup would taste like.

...and when you say Bulalo, Tagaytay is the nearest place in Metro Manila who prepares it BEST. For me, when you say BULALO it will be Alegre's Canteen at Mahogany Market is the face. The mouth watering stew is definitely a must try aside for the fact that they have a crew who provides wonderful service.

What to expect?

Mahogany Market is technically is a WET Market so don't expect to have a restaurant like set up. The place is cool and totally comfortable to dine. One thing is for sure you'd love the service and the food they serve.

Aside from Bulalo here's my awesome favorite. Mild Spicy Sisig and of course Tawilis. Tawilis is an endemic fish found only at the Taal Lake.

Nothing beats a good service, cool store owner and definitely a rock star of service representatives. So next time you visit Tagaytay... drop by at Mahogany Market and look for Alegre's Canteen. Am sure you'd be fascinated not only with the food they share but by the people who'd serve you at their finest. Oh I almost forgot to mention it is your one stop shop too as they also have a store that will cater for your pasalubong from key chains to t-shirt and to definitely accessories.

Christmas Buying Tips in the Philippines

Christmas is fast approaching and in the Philippines, when you say "ber" months it is sign that Christmas is just around the corner. This only means, its shopping season. Malls are literally jump packed with buyers eager to buy stuffs from Christmas decoration to giveaways.

Here's what I learn over the years to avoid what I call Christmas Shopping Disaster.

#1. Plan your Budget - budgeting is very crucial when shopping and most specially during Christmas you need to be very strict on this.

Make a List - Your list tells you how much you'd need to spend for the Christmas Season. In listing down, you need to be very detailed and very specific. List down all your God-children, niece, nephews, cousin and everyone whom you would be giving gifts. When I say very detailed it would mean assigning specific item on each of them and a price range. This would include a list of your giveaways too.
Make a Menu - I plan my menu for Christmas eve and New Years celebration. I also list down every ingredients of it and make sure I have everything in order.

#2. Review and Decide - after planning you'd definitely want to go over the details of your shopping list and decide what to keep or change before making any decisions. In deciding it would include the following:

Separate and decide where you'd buy the items. This will definitely help you identify how much is your budget for "pamasahe" and definitely it helps you the hassle and bustle of the Christmas rush.
Stick to your Budget - this is where it gets tricky. Once you have that budget then stick to it. Don't bring your credit card with you when you go buying this would give you the urge to buy more and later going over your desired budgetary requirement. It is also best to eat at home before going to the mall because the more hungry you are the more food you put on your shopping cart. Buy only those that are in the list. It is also best to compare prices from different brand before putting it to your deciding which brand you'll buy for specific item.

#3. Dress Code - after planning your budget and deciding where and how you'd buy your Christmas shopping and gift ideas. It is also a must that you wear your most comfortable dress that you have. Wear something flowy and something really comfortable. Example, in my case, I go out with a shorts, rubber shoes and a cotton a little over sized t-shirt. If you are uncomfortable in your outfit you might end up rushing everything and just dumping everything in your push cart just to finish your shopping battle.

#4. Time Management - I would say go against the crowd. Go shopping on weekdays, mid-afternoon or mid-mornings in these way there are fewer people in the shopping areas like malls or Divisoria. If you plan of going to Divisoria to buy some giveaways I suggest you go there early in the morning like 7 AM or mid afternoon. If your only time is during the weekends then I suggest you go there as soon as the malls are open. Don't go there during pay days or weekend after the pay day am sure it will be a shopping war zone in the malls.

#5. Shopping Destination - Malls are definitely the most convenient shopping destination but I suggest you check "tiangge" or flea markets and of course online stores. Most of the time these shopping destinations are a little cheaper than that of the mall prices. Plus you've got to have the chance to ask for more discounts or freebies.

#6. Quality over Price - I think I don't need to explain these. It is always best to buy something a little more expensive than buying it cheap and compromising the safety and or the quality of the items you both. It is always best to give something knowing that it will last long.

#7. Buy in Bulk - Best prices always comes when you buy in bulk. This is specially true when you are buying in Tiangge or flea market or in Divisoria per se.

#8. Buy Extra Gifts - There will always be unexpected visitors coming to your house or there are always an instance where you'd need to give something to a friend or in the office. Also, it is always best practice to buy something extra rather than rushing to a mall at a more expensive price because there are unexpected occasions where you are required to bring something as a gifts like Christmas Parties and the like.

#9. Have a firm Decision in buying - There are some instances that you'd need to change what you've already decided for someone. In some cases when you are in flea markets you'd end up seeing something perfect for someone and that is within the budget. In this way, go get it right away. Don't park it somewhere so you could come back and get it. Someone might get it and you'd end up going around to look for something for someone.

#10. Receipts - Always secure for receipt and keep it. Most especially if you are buying your stuff at the mall. You might be buying stuffs that doesnt fit the person whom you are giving or if they simply doesnt like color you bought. Or worst if the toy your bought for example is not working the way it should be working. At least you have a proof for a return and or exchange.

Overseas Filipino Workers Why They Fail

It has been written several time and stories and proofs has been shown for many financial institution about why the Filipino Overseas Workers remains to be poor despite working so hard in a foreign land.

Thank God we have Chat Apps nowadays like Viber and WECHAT as they are popularly known to OFW's in communicating with their loved ones back home (in the Philippines). These Apps definitely makes the world smaller as Filipino's abroad can send messages to their loved ones by simply logging into these social media. It has been a strategic moved as it cuts down their phone call expenses dramatically.

One hundred percent of my virtual friends says that using these apps definitely lowered their phone bills to as much as 50% since they shift from regular phone calls to voice calls using these apps as they are totally dependent on data services.

Also, in one occasion I asked them why they left Philippines despite being a degree holder and of course most of their response revert back to the old reason: "they aren't compensated well" sort of things.

When you ask an OFW as to their life abroad is, they'd definitely tell you their stories on how much they squeeze their budget to ensure they have a penny to send to their love one's way back home. OFW's are always a one day millionaire so to speak. During payday you'd probably see an OFW in remittance centers and or shopping malls sending money or a box full of goodies for their family way back home.

There was this one instance when a friend says he's cooking food for his dinner. I asked him what it would be and he simply says noodles, the following morning a canned good for his breakfast and lunch. So jokingly I said: "WOW, super tipid so supper kapal na ng bank account mo!" He answered me with a frowning smiley and said he had sent almost 85 to 90% of his salary for his child's education, families food allowance and to pay utility bill, a portion of his salary also goes to other relatives who are asking for a support or a gadget for his niece or nephews or a birthday party for his grandchild, etc. This is the same answer I got when I asked my other virtual friends. I've asked if they have savings and most would answer they either have with but too little.

Recently, I have this neighbor who is processing her papers to go abroad as a nanny and so considering my conversation with my virtual friends who are already working abroad, I asked her how she would divide her salary. She said that with her 15,000 peso salary she'll give 10,000 pesos to her family in the province to spend for their daily needs.

In my own personal point of view, Overseas Filipino Workers struggle because of many various reason and here's a summary of what I think an OFW needs to understand:

Spending Habit plays a very important role in everyone's daily life. OFW for example compensate their not being with their kids and spouse by giving everything what they ask.from the latest gadgets to the most expensive appliances. Plus a "help" to their extended family. I told my neighbor that it is ok to give the best gadgets to their loved ones but it is also more important to save something for her future.

Compromised Savings - Savings is really the list of most OFW they normally send everything and cross fingers that their wife or husband would do the savings for them and in most cases it is not always the fact. Savings should always be 2 way. The mentality that an OFW is a saving grace for the whole family should actually change. You can hear people saying, "buti pa kayo, may kaanak kayo sa ibang bansa (good for you, you have a relative abroad)" or you would hear people say, ask for a money to your family member who is working abroad sort of things. An OFW should always keep 10% of his salary to his/her dollar account before dividing the salary for his/her personal expenses and to his/her immediate family in the Philippines. That savings should not be used in buying expensive gifts during Christmas and when during their vacation in their hometown.

Goal - Financial goal in most OFW is only short term. The mind set of going abroad to make ends meet is the main goal as to why most Filipinos work abroad. Of course, if there is a chance for anyone to work a little more than what you are currently earning is definitely OK. However, the tendency is you'd end up spending more because you are earning more. Which is not suppose to be the case. OFW would somehow need to have a goal so they could use it when they retire or when they can no longer abroad.

BAD DEBTS - I heard stories of OFW that in order for them to have something more extra to send to their love ones is to resort to credit from their colleagues with higher interest. Also, some OFW would have the latest gadgets not only for their loved ones in the Philippines but also for themselves. They change their phones every time there's a new release for example. Credit card also is a financial suicide for most OFW. The idea of easy access to credits plus having a higher credit limit tends for an OFW to buy more. CREDIT CARD plus MALL SALES equals MORE shopping.

Somehow credit has always been a escape goat for every OFW thus granting them more buying power which means more balikbayan box to come.

Long Term Plan - the problem may be is what we call the long term plan. What happens to the OFW after OFW? This must be the question I have been asking my friends who are working abroad. Most of the time, they will answer me with either looking for a job locally or having a business of their own. However, the most answer would definitely come with after my child's education or after investing into my new home. It is evident however in most of their response that savings is not at their top priority because according to my friends who works abroad most of their money is being deposited for their families daily consumption. Going abroad is definitely helpful alleviate the families financial status but it shouldn't stop from having the best gadget and appliances or fancied house with fancy stuff in it but it should also be about preparing what it brings on your table after OFW life. Going abroad is definitely not one way. What actually happens here is one is working abroad and the other one stays at home. It shouldn't be the case. One should be abroad and saving all the money she/he gets and the other one working for the families daily needs. That could be a better plan rather than having it one way. Worst is, the person working abroad supports up to his/her extended family.

Get RICH QUICK Schemes. OFW is the easy target for the "get rich quickly" schemes. The OFW are the easy targets for scams and "get rich quickly" schemes because of the fact that people tends to go the easy way and take the short cut. There is no short cuts. I would say that first we need to save at least 10% of our earnings to our bank accounts. Second, we must say learn how to say NO to our children, spouse, and relatives when they ask for money. Third, we need to talk to a financial adviser for them to recommend us the best investment. It is a good thing that we aim to have a business after OFW but we should also have to ensure that the business is only a fraction of our earnings and to have the best investment that can take care of our investment. We tend to invest to something that it is not moving and or it is not giving us a profit. Dont fall on the SALES talks of people who tries to sell you more than 20% returns in few months because tendency is... "YOU GOT SCAMMED!"

Unwanted Relationship. The way I look at it is OFW gets involved in extra marital affairs because they could not urge themselves to get lonely and definitely homesickness could be that reason. These is true in some OFW and this is the worst decision they could ever go through. Being in a foreign land without the support of the families pushes the OFW to engage in such activities. To avoid this from happening, an OFW should know how to properly manage her emotion and should build a group of support group abroad. People whom they could share their problems and frustration. The family member should also be part of the support group, a message of good morning and how are you is definitely helpful but to follow it up with "please send me $ for the latest iphone is definitely not working".

Bottom line is... help your family member who works abroad by educating them on how to properly invest their hard earned money and not by simply asking more MONEY from them for your own and personal expenses for your latest gadgets.

Summer Pointe Residences: My New Home

Approximately over a year ago, I wrote about my discontentment on how the developer of Summer Pointe Residences incapacity and lack of consideration to their home buyers. I filed a complaint and they simply didn't care at all. They maybe thinking that they sold us a cheap loaned house through PAG-IBIG Housing. I can speculate thousands of reason for the developers inability to act and the way they treat their buyers complaints. Once its SOLD and as soon as they got the money from the government they careless about the safety and definitely the welfare of their buyers. They do not care about consumers rights. (Here's my previous article) After a year of filing my compliant and constant reminding the developer and their cold shrugging reaction and definitely unprofessional (unprofessional because they never called or pays no attention to their buyers complaints) in dealing with such complaints

So what's the update about my complaint to the developer.... Ahmmm NOTHING...

Kudos to the officers though of the Home Owners Association (HOA) for going the distance in building a new trend and definitely new culture to a newly built community. A community that is peaceful, quite, clean and law abiding community.

Over the year, the HOA Officers keep coming with engaging activities that in turn my neighbors happily engage themselves and owning every activity.

The Game Gilas Played

Not so long time ago, Philippines is one of the top players of basketball players worldwide. They played so well and discompose the giants of the west. Unfortunately, the fame slowly deteriorates then later fades away just like that.

Just recently, the Philippine Team for the FIBA World Cup pivoted and make it through to finally regain the momentum they've lost for several years. Though they didn't finally make it through the Finals, they showed the most heart in the FIBA World Cup.

Though the Gilas Pilipinas team losts the games, I am equally proud of their achievement and their will to play the game so well putting more soul into it. They may have lack something in so many ways at least they have showed how well they handled the game.

My Experience at Puerto Galera Philippines

Travelling has been my first love and I haven't been doing it for the longest time. Travelling for me means that I always have the chance to experience whatever the place has to offer. Travelling would give me the chance to indulge to the place wonderful cultural experience to the wonders of its eco-tourism plus of course shopping.

My comfort zone is the northern part of the Philippines and last summer I had the chance to explore the southern part of the Philippines. Summer of course is the heaviest season to go travelling when the raining in the Philippines subsides.

Excited as the other tourist, I packed my clothes and started to be a lonely traveler (lone back packer). Along with me is the reviews of the other travelers that others have experience. Excited and definitely thrilled with the idea of going places. I boarded an air conditioned bus at Gil Puyat Avenue formerly known as Buendia. The bus fare would cost you at least Php 200 and goes straight to Batangas Port.

TRANSPORTATION

Once you are in Batangas Port, locate the ticketing area bound for Puerto Gallera. It has 4 major entry points namely White Sand, Sabang Pier, Muelle Pier, and Balatero Pier. I suggest you take the White Sand as that is where I always choose plus it is where the fun is.

Ferry would cost you at least Php 250 (one way) plus environmental fee of Php 50 and Php 30 terminal fee. The first ferry will leave Batangas Pier at around 7:30 AM and the next ferries will leave every hour thereafter until 5:00 PM.

WHERE TO STAY

During peak season, it is definitely very difficult to find a place to stay. Most of the time it is fully booked. When I went there on a summer I almost ended up sleeping in the sand. In times like peak season, I suggest you book online here and make sure that you go there at your earliest possible time. Also, in any case that there you haven't booked online ask the tour guides as there are houses who offer a room at a cheaper price (not air conditioned though)

So for me, Kubo sa Bakawan was my favorite hostels. Friendly and very accomodating owner plus the capability to cook your own food and videoke. If you want to book and reserve in advance please call +639397962232 or +2-861-1225

The Activities

I am exhausted on my first day from the trip to looking for accommodation. But nothing beats the sunset in an island so beautiful like Puerto Galera.

Of course touring with no car is apparently difficult. And a motorcycle comes in handy and it is easier to go around. Its faster and easier to go around the area. I suggest you ask the tour guides that is present almost everywhere where to rent a motorcycle. Its relatively cheaper.

Night party is also a good deal. I call it party by the beach with fire dancers and a lot of performers at night. If party near the beach is your kind of thing then you can stay at White Sand Beach and wait for night fall for the party to begin. If you prefer to go on disco houses you'll have to ride all the way to Sabang and experience their live bands and a lot more.

Or ride a motorcycle all the way from White Sand Beach to Baklayan and ride all the way to the rough roads to the top of the mountain top to have breath of fresh air and also a view of the majestic site of the beach and the Mangyan Village along the way too.

Another exciting activity is snorkeling. I am in love with snorkeling. It made me think of buying a water resistant camera. I would suggest that you talk to the tourist guides to add you in a group who will be going on snorkeling and island hoping. It's cheaper this way as you dont have to rent the whole boat and pay the tour guide all by yourself.

Snorkeling includes a view of the coral garden, underwater cave and giant clams the tour package is pretty standard at Php 1500 to Php 2500 per big boat and I would suggest that you tag along other groups to bring the price per person down. Once you are there a smaller boat would ask for you, you can either reject or accept them to bring you to a more shallower areas where you could see more they'll charge you with Php 100 per person for the smaller boats.

I will never leave a place without tasting something unique. That makes it memorable and fun.

Note though that not all sea urchins can be eaten.

After eating sea urchin, it is time to visit the underwater cave. Its fun and its thrilling to play on a shallow sea water in a cave.

Part of the water adventure is the banana boat ride. 1 banana boat is equivalent to 10 participants. So if you are a lone backpacker just like me then you might as well ask the guide to add you with the other tourist who lacks the number.

Another must see is the Tamaraw Falls and to swim in a fresh water free flowing pool at the foot of the falls. Its definitely new.

OBSERVATION

In general, my experience at Puerto Galera is definitely awesome. However, since I went there on a peak season, where there are more shows and more people partying Tour guides, food, hotels, goods in the market even the fish is totally too expensive plus everyone is rushing including rushing to end your tour with them. That's what happen when I went island hoping, the tour guide complains and wanted to bring us back to our point of origin. When I ordered food in the resto, it takes longer than the usual serving time. I ordered special halo halo but I when it arrived the ice melts already. The food server looks exhausted and unfriendly, I am expecting them to be more lively as they are gays. The hotel owner though of Bakayawan Hotel is totally friendly and accommodating. So I suggest going to Puerto Gallera is better during Off Peak where generally the price are better and hotels are not fully booked plus maybe the food servers are friendlier.

Once again, the time has come to the most celebrated day in the Congress and Senate where they flare their well designed gowns from different reputable fashion designers and or their respective top pics gowns. Definitely this year is no excuse for these politicians and their family member to flaunt.

SONA has been an avenue for these politicians to walk down the red carpet and show off their well desired gowns and walk the flame of their fame. They spend thousands just for these event either rented or owned. Nonetheless, it has been proven that the politics has been a battlefield and playground of the elite.

This year I have chosen four best dress that tops my lists and of course the top worst dress too.

So lets start with my top picks...

Ms. Loren Legarda flaunts the elegance of tribal dress whith her boldness to show the truest beauty of the tribes of the Philippine society makes it count to be on that top list. Inexpensive gown but definitely a representation of the minority is totally remarkable. She has represented in many ways the minority by simply wearing that traditional dress. Though it is a fusion the thought of proudly wearing it is remarkable.

Ms. Elvira Echauz

Elvira Echauz definitely gives justice to the Igorot inspired Filipiniana and flaunt it perfectly with the simplicity of her make up. It gives her the flare of the Filipina look. She has indeed proven that the hand weaved fabric and design from the north can make it to the mainstream still classy and sophisticated yet simply and elegant look.

And of course I also have chosen the worst dress for the said event.

I myself is totally disappointed with the dress of Nancy Binay. She looks gargantuan and looks like a lady dragon in the circus areana. Though politics is definitely a circus arena but it doesnt need to be in flaunt in the SONA RED CARPET showdown.

Risa Hontiveros in her black gown topped with barong tagalog is a fusion disaster. The boyish look is definitely not working on her as she is known with her scarf which really worked perfectly on her but not on this specially played long gown boyish inspired look.

Lani Mercado-Revilla's safe little black dress topped with short sleeved hand woven fabric from Benguet Province. Definitely she's safe in wearing that dress however, I am putting her as one of the worst dress because I expected too much from here to be walking down the red carpet with her usual flamboyant entrance. It looks to me as if she's making a statement despite controversies her husband has been put into.

Mommy D's saggala costume made it to the red carpet too. Mommy D, unintentional maybe but she stormed the SONA Red Carpet drama when she made the grand entrance for being the last personality to arrive. I was expecting her a Randy Ortiz creation but not expecting her to have the fusion of a wedding gown and the details of Santa Cruzan costumes. She should have just wore some native dress and make her entrance with such class and elegance. I love her bag though and her hair simple but customary elegant.

Devina Dediva: The Un-celebrated Girl Says Sorry in Twitter

Devina Dediva of course is a well known name for most Filipinos for her comment against Miss World 2013 and of course to the netizens of the Philippine Republic. She was also denied by Manchester University as the university posted in their facebook status that they don't know her nor she is a student or an alumna of the said school.

I went back to her facebook where she posted her allegations that Filipinos are maids and dirty and uneducated people.

The reason why I kept coming back on her facebook wall is of course to see if she continues to hate the Filipino people by working as a maid or a cleaner. However, I guess Facebook too found out that the comment is foul, below the belt and offensive.

I love the culture of India. At some point I even wished I had a chance to learn their dance, their food and their language (this is still true to date) I even wanted to visit their country because of what I have seen in National Geographic.

After this incident, I heard that she was fired at the school where she is working. Of course I feel sorry for her because she has lost her job. Then I also heard she is now facing criminal charges for racism.

Filipinos acted on the situation and deserted Devina Sharma or popularly known as Devina Dediva in social network, I myself had reported her in Facebook and sent her a message hoping she would revert back and say sorry to what she has said.

Until today I just found out that there's these twitter account with her statement saying sorry:

"Im so sorry @meganbata and to all the Filipinos out there. Sorry. I don't have a twitter account so I made one just to show my apology. India"

If these is truly Miss Dediva then I accept her apology. It's good that she sincerely asks for forgiveness and that she is sorry for what she has done. She made a mistake in social networking site and still asks sorry as well in social networking sites.

Am sure it wont be an easy patch for her. There were thousands or even millions of Filipinos who were hurt by an unjust and degrading comment and maybe until now there are still thousands or even millions who hates her despite apology. Well I guess it is human nature so my advise to Miss Dediva is move on, stop tweeting anything that can link your statement to what she has previously posted as a facebook status and in due time am sure no one will bother her anymore.

I hope that someday there'd be harmony between Ms Dediva and the whole Filipino populace because hating each other wont do any good to both sides. She said she is sorry so the right response I think is to accept the appology. However, there are times that we need to show we really are sorry before thousands would finally accept it.

I have forgiven Miss Dediva for what she has said against us (Filipino People) and hope the rest will. I also hope she finds a job too.

Here's my fearless forecast:

All of them deserves to win the said competition. However, the battle in the end would be between Mitoy and Janice. Both has their own fans who are power voters. Both has their own experience to share in the music industry. However, it is Janice edge to win the competition if her fans in Thailand would vote and download her songs in i-tunes then she might take home the first ever trophy of The Voice of the Philippines. Otherwise, it will be Mitoy's limelight next week.

SSS Salary Loan Application: What you should know before applying

Before even applying for an SSS Salary Loan, there are things you should know and consider before applying. Don't be as ignorant as I do, I filed my loan application and got approved without reading the FAQ's and guidelines. I just got shocked when things went shaky along the way. It is always best to read and understand the provision before pushing through.

A salary loan according to SSS guidelines is a privileged given to all SSS members to meet their short term credit needs.

Below are some of the details I got from the SSS Website, take time to read before even filing

Who may qualify for a salary loan?

1. All currently employed, currently contributing self-employed or voluntary member.

For one-month loan, the member-borrower must have 36 posted monthly contributions, six (6) of which should be within the last twelve (12) months prior to the month of filing of application.

For two-months loan, the member-borrower must have 72 posted monthly contributions, six (6) of which should be within the last twelve (12) months prior to the month of filing of application.

2. The member-borrower whose employer must be updated in the payment of contributions.

3. The member-borrower must be under sixty five (65) years of age at the time of application.

4. The member-borrower has not been granted final benefit (total permanent disability, retirement and death).

5. The member-borrower has not been disqualified due to fraud committed against the SSS.

How much is the loanable amount?

A one-month salary loan is equivalent to the average of the member-borrower's latest posted 12 Monthly Salary Credits (MSCs), or amount applied for, whichever is lower.

A two-month salary loan is equivalent to twice the average of the member-borrower's latest posted 12 Monthly Salary Credits (MSCs), rounded to the next higher monthly salary credit, or amount applied for, whichever is lower.

The net amount of the loan shall be the difference between the approved loan amount and all outstanding balance of short-term member loans.

How long will it take the member to pay back the loan?

The one-month or two-month salary loan shall be payable in 24 monthly installment to start on the 2nd month following the date of the loan, which is due on or before the payment deadline for loans per Circular No. 2011-003.

How much is the interest charged on a salary loan?

The loan shall be charged an interest rate of 10% per annum, based on diminishing principal balance, and shall be amortized over a period of 24 months. If the loan is not fully paid at the end of the term, interest of 10% shall continue to be charged on the outstanding principal balance until fully paid.

Any excess in the amortization payment shall be applied to the outstanding principal balance.

In case a loan is not paid, how much is the delinquency interest?

Loan amortization not remitted on due date shall bear a penalty of 1% per month until fully paid.

Is there a service fee?

Yes. A service fee of 1% of the loan amount shall be charged and deducted from the proceeds of the loan.

When can a member renew a salary loan with the SSS?

The loan may be renewed after payment of at least 50% of the original principal amount and at least 50% of the term has lapsed. Proceeds of renewal loan is any amount greater than or equal to zero after the outstanding balance on the previous loan is deducted.

How does a member pay back the loan?

For employed member-borrowers, the first deduction from their salaries shall start on the second month following the date of loan. All remittances shall be made by the employer on or before the deadline for payment which depends on the 10th digit of the ER 13th digit ID number. For instance, if the ER ID number is 03-1234567-8-012, the payment deadline for member loans for the applicable month of January is February 25. Payment may be made to the SSS or any of its accredited banks.

What shall a member do if he/she transfers employment?

(This is very important, because this is most often neglected to by the borrowers. Just like me I am not fully aware of this policy. You should take not that you have to get the updated statement of account from your HR Representative. You should also double check if the deduction from your pay slip matches your deduction from the statement of account HR will be giving you. If you don't get the statement of account your loan will incur monthly interest.)

A member-borrower who transfers employment shall submit to his new employer an updated statement of account of any outstanding loan balance with SSS and allow his employer to deduct from his salary the corresponding amortization due, including any interest or penalty for late remittance.

For self-employed or voluntary paying member-borrowers, loan amortization may be paid to the SSS or any of its accredited Banks/Bayad Centers on the prescribed schedule of payment which is according to the 10th (last) digit of the SS number of the SE/VM.

For instance, if the SS number is 01-2345678-9, the payment deadline for member loans for the applicable month of January is February 28 (last day of the month).

In case the payment deadline falls on a Saturday or Holiday, payment may be made on the next working day to avoid penalties on late member loan payments of employers, self-employed and voluntary members including OFWs.

What are the obligations of the employer to the SSS?

The employer shall be responsible for the collection and remittance to the SSS of the amortization due on the member-borrower's salary loan through payroll deduction.

The employer shall require new employees to secure from the SSS an updated statement of account.

The employer shall deduct and remit to SSS any outstanding loan balance of new employees.

In case of transfer, separation, or resignation, how can a borrower pay back the loan?

(This is also very important to note. In case, by any chance you resign, separate, transfer the company will deduct all remaining loans from your back pay. This will apply to special cases like merger and acquisition. Though merger and acquisition is not the employees fault the said ruling will still apply. Yeah too bad.)

In case a member-borrower is separated voluntarily (e.g. retirement or resignation) or involuntarily (e.g. termination of employment or cessation of operations of the company), the employer should deduct the total balance of the loan from any benefit/s due to the employee and shall remit in full to SSS.

If the benefit/s due the employee or the amount thereof legally available for offset of obligations of the employee is insufficient to fully repay the loan, the employer should report to the SSS the effective date of separation from the company and the unpaid loan balance of the employee

What are the obligations of the employer to the SSS?

In case of default, the arrearages/unpaid loan shall be deducted from the benefits claimed by the member, whichever comes first, as follows:

1. For self-employed/voluntary member, deduction shall be from short-term benefits (Sickness/Maternity/Partial Disability).

2. In case of member-borrower's death, total disability or retirement, the total outstanding balance of the loan including the interest and penalty, shall be deducted from the corresponding benefit.

What are the other conditions of the loan?

1. Any overpayment on a previous loan shall be applied to the subsequent loan, if any, otherwise the overpayment shall be refunded upon request of the member-borrower.

2. The borrower shall notify the SSS in case of change of address/employer thru mail/e- mail/over-the-counter (OTC). The notice should indicate the name and SS number of the member-borrower, addressed to the Member Services Section of the nearest SSS Branch, and duly signed by the member-borrower (in case of mail/OTC).

NOTE: A disclosure statement on loan transaction is issued by the SSS to the borrower upon approval of his loan (R.A. 3765, Truth in Lending Act)

What are the papers/documents needed for filing a salary loan? REQUIREMENTS!!!!!

A member-borrower shall submit an accomplished Member Loan Application and present Social Security Card (SS card) or in its absence, Application for SS card (SS Form E-6) acknowledgment stub and any two valid IDs listed below both with signature and at least one with photo:

• Unexpired Driver's License

• Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID card

• Passport

• Postal ID

• School or Company ID

• Tax Identification Number (TIN) card

• Seaman's Book

• membership card issued by private companies

• Overseas Worker Welfare Administration card

• Senior Citizens card

• Voter's Identification card/Affidavit/Certificate of Registration

• ATM card

- with cardholder's name; or

- with certification from bank, if without name

• Credit card

If filed by member-borrower's Authorized Representative, Member Loan Application, Authorized Representative's SS card or any two valid IDs both with signature and at least one with photo, Letter of Authority (LOA) signed by both the member-borrower and member-borrower's authorized representative, and member-borrower's SS card or any two valid IDs both with signature and at least one with photo.

If filed by Employer/Company's Authorized Representative, accomplished Member Loan Application, Authorized Company Representative (ACR) card issued by SSS, LOA from employer and any two (2) valid IDs both with signature and at least one with photo, member-borrower's SS card or in its absence, Application for SS card (SS Form E-6) acknowledgment stub and any two valid Ids both with signature and at least one with photo.

If filed by member's representative, present member's SS card or two (2) valid IDs, one of which with photo and signature, authorization letter signed both by the member and representative.

Where can a borrower file the salary loan application?

A borrower may file the salary loan application at the branch nearest the place of residence or business. A member who is registered at My.SSS can submit the salary loan application online. The salary loan submitted online by an employed member will be directed to the employer's My.SSS account for certification, hence, the employer should also have an SSS Web account.

OFW members may also file their salary loan application at the SS Representative Offices in selected countries. In case there is no SSS office in a particular country they may send their application and supporting documents to their relatives here in the Philippines and authorize them to file at the SSS branch. Documents issued in other country should be duly authenticated or certified by the Philippine Consulate/Embassy. They may also send the application and supporting documents to Foreign Branch Expansion and Monitoring Department thru mail (3/F SSS Building, East Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City) or fax (632-435-9814).

Note: The employer shall submit an updated Specimen Signature Card (SS Form L-501) to be updated annually to avoid delay in the processing of salary loan applications.

Now your turn to decide if you push through with your salary loan application at SSS. If you are not resigning for the next 2 years from your current company then there'd be no problem go for it. But if you think that you are uncertain like you smell a merger and acquisition then don't or you'll end up going home empty handed. Please note that all lavender fonts are my personal thoughts.

The Metro Manila Development Authority sets a firm decision to finally make a stand and put all the Provincial Buses specifically Tagaytay, Cavite, Batangas.

Here's what I think are the PRO's for having the South West Terminal at Coastal Mall:

In all fairness, I would personally say that the South West Terminal is effective in a way that the traffic congestion along EDSA became better. It wasn't at its best but it was better than before. The amount of buses has significantly reduced resulting to better travel time
Before, I don't want to travel to Cavite using buses because it is dangerous. I said it is dangerous because it is jammed packed with so many passenger. I was standing from Makati to my destination at the door. However, with the emergence of the South West Terminal, I never experienced standing plus it is more comfortable to travel.
Commuters have more options. Choice is very important for a commuter like me. Before, I dont have a choice, whoever comes first I would need to jump in or else I would need to wait for an hour or so for the next bus to arrive.
It is more organized. Compared to running and rushing with all the other passengers
I love the passengers lounge as well. I am just crossing finger that this is not for these year only. It is high time for the Philippines to have a better and more organized bus stations.

Here are the CON's or the things I did not like

It is a matter of adjusting though since people would need to transfer from one bus to the next to the point of destination.
The MMDA Management would need to do more fixing not only on the internal looks of the terminal but also the external part of it. Huge portion at the back and at the sides of the terminal is not cemented.
City buses should only pass through the front of the terminal and not allowed to pick or drop passenger at the back of the terminal. The bus driver told us to go down and just walk along. The city and provincial buses are all jammed packed at the side making a hard time for some buses to pass through.

Some of the problem that is arising nowadays is the "Tigil Pasada" where bus operators. "Akin lang eh... ok na sana unti unti ng natatanggap at nasasanay na ang mga commuters at dahil sa tigil pasada unti unti nanamang naiinis ang mga commuters." Isnt it that the bus operators has the responsibility to make their commuters safe and comfortable? I myself dont want to go back to the idea of standing from AYALA all the way to my point of destination and worse I am standing at the driver's side.NO... I would prefer to go to the bus station look for the bus and then ride comfortable. The LTFRB should warn these bus operators to provide the riding public safely and comfortable.

Speaking in their Dialect Gets Expelled at School

Dialect according to experts are used in different ways but it is mainly a language spoken in a particular group area or a community or group of people. In the Philippines which is comprised with thousand of islands has more or less a thousand of spoken languages depending on their ethnic background or origin.

Recently, social media users reacted differently when a news broke that Saviour's Christian Academy students in Laoag City Ilocos Norte expelled due to speaking Ilocano (a dialect in the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera).

My point of view

It may be serendipitous if the school bans the usage of vernacular within the school premises for the students to have an avenue in practicing the students capacity and skills in the English language. However, to disgorge them from school is rather implacable. A school is a second home for every children. A place for them to explore the wonders of the world through their quest for knowledge in the guidance of their so called second parents. To dislodge them is as good as disowning your kids capacity to learn.

Dislodging the child as a course of action towards a minute mistake like speaking in vernacular inside the school premises is totally repugnant. A school should be guiding these children to be successful someday. They should be the stronghold of these children to be better. The school is totally responsible to every child's future. Such action is totally unacceptable.

English is a universal language understood by men but Ilocano is a dialect understood by the Ilocano's not only by their mind but also in their hearts. It is the language they have grown up using and it will be the language that they would bring in their death. English is learned and Ilocano is a langauge by heart of the Ilocano's. If this is true, why did the school penalize these kids? The teacher or school administrator should have talked to this students and have re-iterated the importance of the English Language and why they should be practicing it.

My main reason why i despise the action of the school authority is basically the idea of penalizing the students by simply speaking in vernacular language. Speaking in vernacular is not a grieve misdemeanor rather they should have a corrective action plan be in place. For me, English language is important which I agree but having good English skills doesn't define you as a person, it doesn't define your success and above all, it is not a social status or standard.

To wrap it up, these children doesn't deserve to be expelled using their native language. They should've just been reminded of that school policy. I have expected more understanding from these school since they are a Christian school. I always believe that the best way to teach the children is not through heated iron punch into their hearts but rather getting into their heart and understanding is what makes learning more possible. In this way the learning would stay forever.

Practice makes perfect! That's totally true, but since English is our native language there will always be instances where we would need or accidentally would speak in the language that we have grown up with. Just like Singaporean when they are in Singapore they'll speak their natural language or Chinese or Koreans and that is totally acceptable.

My Weekend Vanity With Watsons

Everyday we rushed from home to work. Everyday we deal with our own stresses. Everyday we face troubles of life whether that is our personal or professional life.

That is true to me or to any one else. However, I make it a point that my weekend activity is something that I love doing like blogging, watering my plants, chit chat with friends or playing my FB games that it takes me months to move from one level to the next (LOL).

This weekend, I decided to do something that I haven't been doing for the 3 years and that is pampering myself and spending an hour in the shower room.

My Philippines Savings BANK Molino Cavite Experience

Opening a checking account is really laborious and most banks requires a lot of documents. I went from one bank to the next to ask for their requirement and their application process however to no avail I came out of their banks a little frustrated. Everyday, I always go home unhappy and still looking for the right bank who wanted to do business with me.

On my home, I decided to just settle for a bank near me and so I decided to ask PS Bank Molino Branch just to inquire on their requirements in opening a checking account.

And here are the things I really wanted to highlight about their employees:

The Bank Manager (I suppose she is the Bank Manager) Eloiza Villaneuva is extremely helpful, fun and energetic and friendly. She explains to me clearly on how I should handle my checking account. She definitely embody the perfect customer service. She managed to process my application and explains to me why I can't get my checks yet. One more thing, she remembers my name after a week or so. This is a superb costumer experience because I felt the care.
The lady who processed my application is also very heplful. She smiles and answers my question properly the way it should be explained. She is not hesitant in providing me information that I need.
The guard is very respectful. Their greetings is rather sincere.

The Pressure on Educators

Educators I would say are the most respected people in the world I must say. There would be no doctors, scientist, politicians and the like without our beloved educators and nothing beats their dedication on their job. When an educator would talk I definitely listen because I know that somehow I have these inclination that everything that comes out to their mouth would somehow benefit me.

I believe that a moment an educator signs the contract, they'd automatically signed a contract as well that every time their students comes out to their classroom being proud because they have learned something different either a lesson in life based on experiences or they've become better in the subject matter the educator is teaching.

But what if all these are not true?

I learned from my sibling studying in a reputable school that they have a teacher who has a PhD. That moment I became comfortable and confident that they would learn more because they have one of the best educator. Unfortunately I also learned that every time they commit mistake their board works the educator would say "TANGA (stupid/fool)". One time the educator would even say: "public school lang kayo.... galing ata ako MaSci (you Only came from Public School.... I'm from MaSci)".

I immediately taught, is coming from a public school make the student less? I totally disagree, students in public school are there because they wanted to learn no matter how difficult their situation in their school is. I agree that in the public school they don't have everything plus there are 60 to 70 students per classroom and these are the reason why I have high regards to the public school teachers.

I remember when I was an educator as well and I never told my student a fool or stupid when they cant pass my simple examination or board work. I even ask them to stay and I would teach the lesson all over again because I don't want them to go home and not learned anything in my lesson. Is this not suppose what all educators would do?

Is having a PhD gives you the right to brag everything that you have and tell your students fool or stupid. Teaching in private school is way way easier than teaching in public school because you have everything you need for your students to learn and because you audio visual rooms that public school doesn't have.

I always believe that if you are an educator, they don't have the right to complain because that is their responsibility. It is an educators responsibility to make sure that when their students are asked about their subject matter the students would be able to answer them accurately. It is an educators responsibility as well for the knowledge of their students.
