Four of the plants are coal-burning power plants. The fifth plant is the Crystal River 3 Nuclear Generating Station. The complex was developed by the Florida Power Corporation, and is now owned and opeperated by Progress Energy Inc. With a summer generating capacity of 3,140 megawatts, as of April 2002 the complex was the seventh largest electric power generating site in the United States. As of the summer of 2006, the company was considering plans to add a second nuclear generator plant to the complex. However they have changed their focus to the possibility of two new reactors in Levy County, which is just North of the Crystal River Complex.

Mallory Park

explorer@altopix.com
