For a few weeks now I have been wanting to get a GoPro, but to be honest there is nothing cool to film around me.

Last week after having to take the bus, I realized that the bus is the one exciting thing I can film. Bus rides in Mexico are filled with excitement and emotion.

You never know if you are going to step out of them alive or in time. You have to ride the bus to know what I am talking about.

Today, like any other day I visited my school email account hosted by Microsoft Hotmail . I checked for any new emails that might be interesting or that needed any special attention. Instead of getting an important letter from the school's president or from any of my professors, all I got was spam. I had to wait for the ugly interface to load and had to read my emails on this vertical non sense orientation that I am not used to.

I figured I could go to the settings section and avoid all the daily pain of going through spam by activating some sort of filters. None were found. I also wanted to set up a forwarding system so that I could have all of my email sent to Gmail and avoid the entire Hotmail experience. No you can't. I went through all of the settings, (which weren't many) and to my surprise there wasn't such options available. My next task on my to do list was to change the layout of the website since it is set up on a vertical way, and no theres no option for that. So can I at least change the color of the layout? like in every other email provider? I don't like the golden with red accents, who does? No you cannot do that either.

But the pain of having to go through such horrible experience daily is manly the fault of some other people I have not yet met. These IT people thought it would be convenient that after their previous email server crashed so often, and who knows maybe hacked too the school was due for a change. Information was being compromised and the school could not longer handle to run their own servers. In order to fix the problem they would have to hand out their problem to another email providers. And so BYUH went shopping... and they came across Microsoft's Hotmail and Google's Gmail.

Their motto while looking for a new host I believe, judging by their decision was "the cheaper the better". I has almost been two years since that happen and at the time Hotmail was already dying. The only people using Hotmail are moms, and IT people. Due to that decision the entire community of BYUH has to stick to this stupid email FOR LIFE, or so they say. "An email address you can keep for life to keep track on you, and notify you of future events" a person in the international office told me.

Our email addresses went from being a simple @byuh.edu to an unnecessary namelastname@go.byuh.edu. And all of this in the name of reliability. What is the point of adopting an interface that has a calendar built in if I still get the student bulletin every day informing me of activities that should be in the calendar? Why not just put the events in the calendar like in the new LDS member website? (ldsaccount.lds.org) Is the school not owned by the church? Why don't we follow their example in choosing the right technology?

Cheap is expensive in the long run. I hate to say it but the people behind this decision were not committed to quality or service. Maybe it is just because we don't want to be in the top 100 schools as Google says,

I am Going to Miss this Place

I have been living on campus for 2/3 of my college education and let me tell you, it has been great. I had a great time here in the "hales" and had some fun memories with my roommates Jarom and Danno. Hale 4 and 6 have been an ok replacement for home during this time and I am getting closer to to say good bye to them for good.
I am going to miss never taking care of cleaning a bathroom or taking extremely long showers without having someone complaining at me either for the time or for the waste of water or for using all of the hot water.
There are also many things I am not gonna miss like people disposing the leftovers of their noodles soup in the sink, or that awkward moment when you need to use the restroom and the toilet is clogged.
And don't forget the usual mess every weekend.

It was good for some time but I am ready for a change.

It's been forever, but here I am.

I have been so disconnected from the blog and from many other social networks lately. I have lost interest on Facebook but regained interest on Twitter. I think that the main reason was that I was waisting too much time Facebooking.

A cool thing I like about Twitter is that it has trends and sometimes I find out about stuff on Twitter faster than on any other news website.

I still update my Facebook with pretty much the same frequency as Twitter and and most of the updates go to both accounts, but I don't think anyone can see it on Facebook because it is set to private.

Lately I have been posting more and more pictures into this app called Instagram. I really like that all of my pics can go to all of the social networks just by taping on some buttons. I can ad filters and and by going into Statigram.com I can find out more about my stats and interesting stuff about the pictures I post.

Le Tour de Oahu

I am in no way bragging about my bicicleta (cycling) skills but rather about how much time I have on my days. So much that I get to do pretty much whatever I want. First of all, I decided to quit my so beloved job at the Polynesian Cultural Center because it was not longer fun working there, so like I said on a previous posts Click here I decided to find something else. With only two classes in this semester and no work in the afternoons I decided to go on a bike ride.
This was my route

I was able to go back an forth in under 3 hours, not so bad for not being on a bike since... since my mission. I also didn't take into consideration the time I tool looking at the surfers at Pipeline.

I just finished doing my reading for tomorrow's class and I feel like I could eat the biggest taco in the world.

Also, my fiancée started a blog about her favorite thing to do in the world, teaching. Check it out, share it, comment and tell me what you think about it.

If I was a Musical Instrument...

I have heard of people that would love to reincarnate as animals. Yes people would love to be dolphins, lions and things of that sort. But not me, I would like to be a musical instrument, and not any musical instrument, I would have to be a electronic instrument not acustic, and it could only be a theremin, or in other words aetherophone or therminophone. You may be wondering why? I like this instrument because its like the grandpa of electronic music, and I love electronic music, and also because you don't even need to mke contact with it to make music. Weird huh?

Today at work for the first time in years I was able to spot a Leica M7 form one of the tourist that come to the Polynesian Cultural Center. This is the most overpriced digital camera I have seen, ever.. The M7 runs for $5,000 in most of the online stores, but what surprises me the most is that people buy that camera when they could be getting a Canon SLR for the same price. When they guy came to the place where I was working I told him "nice camera" and he kinda ignored my comment and turned around. Maybe because I knew his camera was expensive he decided to ignore me, or maybe he thought I could potentially steal it from him, who knows.

Pandora’s New HTML5 Website

I was invited to try the new HTML5 site of Pandora and iI think it is great so far. They have addressed some of the major issues they had with the old site like the size of the album covers, the buttons arrangement and the size of the list that contains your radio stations. The new website still has some glitches like not uploading the next song until you go back to the Tab. If I had to choose between Grooveshark, Spotify and Pandora, I think I would still go for Pandora.

I Hate Being Short

Don't want no short people 'round here.. are the lyrics of a song that was popular in the 70's.(Thank goodness is 2011) I have always hated how short I am, but what I hate the most is when nature makes fun of me by putting me in situations that make this more obvious. Not too long ago I was playing basketball and it was all fun until the ball got stuck in the side of the rim. I had to jump like 10 times in order to get the ball from the rim. Five years ago this same situation would not be considered a problem because I was able to jump much higher than today.

Self-inflicted Pain

Today at work I noticed how much people like to complain, there is not one that goes without me hearing "I hate my job". Why do most people hate their job? And why if they hate it so much they dont just look for a new one? Most people complain about the pay rate so its not the pay what keeps them there. Is it because they need to pay the bills and they cant afford to go without a job while looking for a new one? Is it the economy? Whatever it might be the reason of why you stick to the job you hate so much might be secretly related to your love for the things you hate. Yes like you know that feeling where you can’t stand something or someone but yet you are still dealing with it.

Maybe we do have a need to have haters in order to be inspired, or maybe we are just addicted to challenge and uncomfortable situations if these lead to an economic gain. I too sometimes get too overwhelmed with work and feel like running away and never coming back but and idea has been drilled into my head long time ago that tells me to never do that.

Most people have a need for money and to occupy our minds on something we like, but thats not always the case. Why is it that if need is the mother of invention we do not come up with our ideal jobs? So I guess that what I am trying to say is that if we do not like something we dont need to conform to it. We tend to inaccurately name our work place as "hell" even when our hell can be a heaven for others.

UPDATE: Its been almost a month and I am finally in on the Google+ and the Spotify networks. But now that I am in I feel like all the hype is gone, mainly because I dont see the use of them. Google+ seems to be a work in process and due to this, it seems that no one is adopting it. Yes I have been added to many "circles" but no one ever post on their Facebook equivalent of a wall. And Spotify, it is so cool to be able to listen to music for free but the commercials are just annoying because if you mute the computer the commercials go to pause until you turn the volume back, thank goodness their is something called Smutefy, but thats another story. Theres also a lack of a playlist for different music genres other than the hit list and this makes me go back to my beloved Pandora One, where I dont necessarily have to listent to a top list of songs or new releases.

Mexico Part 1

I have been thinking for some time now for a way to share all the pictures I took on my trip to Mexico. Most slideshow programs compatible with Blogger are just bad and offer a limited amount of pictures for upload. Uploading one by one would take a life and flipping through those pictures would be a real pain, so in an effort to make this pictures available to the readers, I have decided to make a cheap YouTube video.
