October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Bling My Bra folks are at it for the second year in a row. They will be auctioning off one-of-a-kind themed art bras through Giving Works auctions on eBay. Proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen For the Cure. Look for eBay seller ID BlingMyBra or do a keyword search for “bling my bra”.

I’ve decided to get in on the action this year and will be designing my own eBay Ink Blog Bra. This could be interesting.

Every year, eBay hosts an Innovation Expo that invites eBay employees, from every department and level of the organization, to develop prototypes for new products and breakthrough innovations that benefit our buyers and sellers. This year, more than 250 employees on nearly 80 teams competed for the top prize. eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and CEO, John Donahoe kicked off the event.

This year’s grand prize winner was an idea called “simple green shipping.” (I was lucky enough to video the team behind the concept so I’ll try and dig up the footage for you guys as soon as eBay: On Location comes to a close). In a nutshell, it’s a durable box that’s been designed to be used over and over and over again.

Now, six months later, We’ve printed up 100,000 boxes in three sizes and giving eBay: On Location participants and eBay Green Team members a limited chance to sign up to participate in the pilot.

According to the eBay Green Team, if every box gets reused at least five times, we could protect nearly 4,000 trees, save 2.4 million gallons of water and conserve enough energy to power 49 homes for a year.

What is the eBay Box pilot program?
At eBay, we want to help our buyers and sellers save money and make it as convenient as possible for them to ship items they sell on eBay. We also strive to make it easy for users to reduce their impact on the planet. The eBay Box program encourages eBay buyers and sellers to keep their shipping boxes traveling. The eBay Box is a durable, reusable box made from environmentally-friendly materials. Starting in October 2010, participants in the eBay Box pilot can track their box’s journey at thebox.ebay.com, simply by entering the unique code printed on the box. As a token of our appreciation, we’re also giving every unique eBay user who receives and registers a box up to $1 in eBay Bucks.

Why is eBay doing this?
The eBay Box was the winner of this year’s eBay Innovation Expo, a celebration of new products and breakthrough innovations coming from employees at every level of the organization. Initially called “simple green shipping,” we believe it has the potential to both improve the eBay customer experience and help reduce the environmental impact of the eBay marketplace.

Does this program cost anything?
During the pilot, the eBay Box program does not cost anything. In fact, eBay buyers who receive an eBay Box are eligible for an eBay Bucks reward.

You say this is a “pilot.” What does that mean?
At eBay, so much of what succeeds or fails does so because of its impact on our community. We think the eBay Box is a great idea, but we have to make sure our buyers and sellers agree. So, to start off, we are printing just 100,000 boxes and releasing them out into the world. We’ll track their progress, and talk to the people who touch them, through our website and social media channels. Once the boxes have had a few months to travel, we’ll check back in and see where we can take it from there.

I’m a seller, and I want to participate in the program. How do I get involved?
There are a few ways to get involved in the eBay Box pilot. If you are participating in the eBay: On Location event in San Jose on September 1 and 2, you can stop by the eBay Green Team booth, fill out a short form, and register to participate. For a limited time, sellers who are eBay Green Team members can also sign up on the eBay Green Team website. Participation will be determined on a first come, first serve basis. Once all 100,000 boxes have been distributed in October, eBay buyers who receive their purchase in an eBay Box can participate in the program by going to thebox.ebay.com and entering the box number and basic item information. We encourage everyone who gets an eBay Box to help us keep it traveling.

What’s so environmentally-friendly about this box?

eBay will no longer be supporting third party checkouts after June 30, 2011. This change will allow users to experience a speedy and consistent checkout experience. [via eBay]

I’m pleased to tell you the answer is yes! And, this isn’t a test – effective Aug. 24, we began defaulting the shipping cost DSR to 5 stars when eBay can verify a buyer did not pay for shipping.

Sellers have been asking for this, and we are excited to bring it to them before the holiday season. Free shipping attracts buyers, and this important new protection for sellers will ensure that DSR scores for shipping cost will not receive a score of less than 5 if buyers choose free shipping.

Here’s all it takes:

1. The item must offer a free shipping option.
2. In order to get the automatic 5-star rating, the buyer must choose the free shipping option during payment.
3. Sellers should be sure to offer verifiable payment methods (i.e. PayPal, MoneyBookers, PayMate, ProPay) and use eBay checkout. Third-party checkouts will work, as long as they provide the full post back information to eBay, so that we can verify the buyer didn’t pay for shipping.

Debut of Facebook Places
Keeping in touch has become even easier with Facebook Places. The new feature allows you to share your location with friends via check-ins. Currently, the feature is only available to US users and can only be used through the Facebook iPhone application or by visiting touch.facebook.com on your mobile browser. [via PC World]

eBay and Half.com Help Students Purchase Cheaper Textbooks
Half.com has launched a new iPhone app allowing students to scan textbook barcodes and search through millions of listings for competitive prices. The new app is the first app to integrate barcode scanning technology implemented through RedLaser, which eBay purchased in June. [via TechCrunch]

An interesting post over on Hitwise Intelligence by Heather Dougherty earlier this month profiles how this Summer’s heat wave in the US has driven online sales of air conditioners. What I found most interesting was the eBay-focused data…

eBay experienced increases in the Air Conditioner category during the same week ending July 10, 2010 with a 46% increase in the volume of searches for ‘air conditioner’, ‘window air conditioner’ and ‘portable air conditioner’.

Going one step-further, we thought it would be compelling to see if similar trends were occurring on our other sites such as eBay Classifieds and Shopping.com. Sure enough, the trends are fairly consistent across the board. Digging even deeper, you can see that searches for air conditioners on eBay Classifieds peaked a week earlier than they did on eBay or Shopping. One could obviously attribute this to people wanting to shop locally before going onto eBay or other sites.

Not only that, the higher levels of search activity seem to follow higher levels of listings. Leading one to conclude that once again, online sellers are playing Nostradamus to consumer demand…

“[An] interesting trend is the ability of the eBay sellers to predict demand in terms of their inventory – in this case, the number of listings was the highest the week ending July 3, 2010, right before the peak, with a small decrease in the subsequent weeks of 2.3%* and 3.6%*. Watching the listings of eBay sellers could offer some predictive insight into the popularity of certain categories and products– like last year’s holiday hit, Zhu Zhu Pets.”

This is exactly the app I’ve been looking for. The integration of the barcode scanning technology could be the most significant to date for eBay’s mobile application efforts. It was why I was so fired up about the acquisition of Red Laser back in June. I’m interested to see how long it takes to be included as a future upgrade to existing eBay mobile applications. It could end up being a huge hit with both buyers and sellers on eBay too. Walking through a retail store and seeing an item you want – or want to sell – and being able to scan the barcode to see how much the item is being sold for online and elsewhere. Total price comparison shopping at your fingertips.

Bottom line, mobile applications have changed how people buy and sell online in just a matter of months and this latest development only adds to that evolution. Today: students… tomorrow: everyone. Looking forward to trying it out myself.

E-Commerce Spending Up
ComScore has announced that e-commerce spending is up 9% in Q2 of 2010 versus Q2 of 2009. Although the gain is strong, ComScore is still cautious as the rate is still far below the strong e-commerce spending in 2008. [via SocalTech.com]

Twitter Debuts “Tweet” Button
The newly unveiled tweet button allows users to directly share links from any site they may be visiting. Once a user clicks the tweet button, a pop box appears with the URL already shortened. All the user has to do is add their message and hit the tweet button, the update will be sent to the users Twitter feed automatically. [via PC Magazine]

Here’s a quick written tutorial too:
Select Create a Download Request. Select Active from the Listings and Records Drop Down. Leave the download format as standard, and leave the date range as all active listings. The email address is a notification address only, no actual files are sent. Click Save. Your reference number tells you the request has been initiated.

Open up the ConditionIDs by Category CSV file within the File Exchange Instructions and Resources page. http://pics.ebaystatic.com/aw/pics/pdf/ConditionIDs_by_Category-us.csv Note available ConditionIDs needed. 1000 is consistently Brand New, Retail style item, but the other values vary.

Next, go to the Completed Downloads page. Download the results csv, and open in a CSV editor. (MS Word, Open Office, Google docs, etc.)
From here, you can use any available column to sort existing item condition, title, or category. Once sorting is completed:
1. Change Item ID to ItemID
2. Change Condition ID to ConditionID
3. Add a column in front of ItemID, and title it Action
4. Remove all columns except the aforementioned
5. Fill in Revise for all items under the Action column
6. Ensure the new CategoryID is filled in (1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, etc)
7. Save as .csv file somewhere accessible.

Go back into eBay, and go to the Upload Files page, Type in the notification email address, and browse to the saved .csv. Click Upload.

Next, go to the View Upload Results page. Download the Load Results Report. Success means complete. Warnings are dependent, so read them and spot check. Failure is failure.

Things to keep in mind.
1. Only revisable items can be revised- no auctions with bids. FP with sales can be revised.
2. Existing Item Condition will be overwritten by CondtionID. This is a good thing.
3. Certain Categories do not currently allow CondtionID to be revised. Adult Categories do not allow Condition ID to be revised.

Second quarter revenue was up 6% to $2.2 billion (or 15% excluding Skype), compared to Q2 2009. The company recorded Q2 net income on a GAAP basis of $412.2 million (or $0.31 per diluted share) and non-GAAP net income of $530.2 million (or $0.40 per diluted share).

PayPal delivered a record Q2 performance and added a million new accounts each month during the quarter. For 3 consecutive quarters, PayPal’s merchant services business has grown by over 40% year over year.

eBay marketplace showed a strong performance in Europe, expected performance in Asia and slower than expected growth in the US.

“We delivered strong second quarter results, demonstrating the global strength and increasing diversity of our business,” said John Donahoe, eBay Inc. President and CEO. “PayPal is strong and getting stronger, building a robust and innovative global footprint serving all of ecommerce. In what can only be described as remarkable, the eBay community has surpassed the $200 million mark for cumulative funds raised with eBay Giving Works since 2003. This represents year-over-year double digit growth.

How it works:
eBay Giving Works enables eBay users to support their favorite causes whenever they buy and sell. Today the program offers five easy ways to make a difference:
• Community Selling: Any seller can donate part of their sale price to a nonprofit. The seller decides which organization to support and how much to give (10-100 percent), and gets a tax deduction for their gift.
• Direct Selling: Nonprofits can sell their own items on eBay to raise funds. eBay waives most basic selling fees for nonprofits, making Direct Selling practically free.
• Shop eBay Giving Works: Every item posted by a Community or Direct Seller bears the eBay Giving Works blue and yellow charity ribbon, so it’s easy for buyers to shop for items to support causes that matter to them.
• Give at Checkout: 1.5 million shoppers every day are invited to add a donation on top of their eBay purchase, when they pay by PayPal. Give at Checkout has raised nearly $5 million in its first 12 months.
• Donate Now: eBay and PayPal users who discover an eBay Giving Works organization they care about can give as little as $1 right away without buying or selling.

It goes without saying that the fact that $50 million was raised in 2009 alone, coupled with the unbelievable final auction price of the lunch with Warren Buffett (the highest value charity auction ever sold on eBay at $2.63 million), greatly contributed to this superb achievement.

About the program:
The adoption of social media tools over the past 24 months has been unprecedented. It has given individuals the world over, the ability to create strong, impressive brands online that had been otherwise reserved for large companies and budgets. This has never been more evident than in the world of ecommerce. A large group of online sellers have embraced these new social tools to enhance their reach online and, ultimately, increase traffic to their online stores and content. It’s no surprise, really, social networking is part of eBay’s DNA. One could argue that the first online social network back in 1996 was the introduction of AuctionWeb/eBay.

Over the past 2 years we’ve been seeing an emergence of individuals taking these social media tools to the next level and transferring their entrepreneurial instincts to the world of Twitter, Facebook, blogging and podcasting. As a result, I wanted to start highlighting some of these sellers here on Ink; ask them questions about how they got started; and see if they could share some of their tips and tricks. This list is by no means exhaustive and I intend to grow it regularly over the coming months and years. The announcement was made at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) taking place this week in Washington D.C.

According to the announcement, eBay will incorporate the Windows Azure platform appliance into two of its data centers. The goal being to further optimize its platform and achieve greater strategic agility and datacenter efficiency. The agreement comes on the heels of a a successful pilot deployment by eBay of Microsoft’s public Windows Azure platform – eBay’s page for iPad listings (http://ipad.ebay.com) is hosted on the public Windows Azure platform.

eBay VP of Technology, James Barrese, took the stage this morning at the WPC but I managed to catch up with him before eBay: On Location this past weekend and interviewed him about the news. We talked, among other things, about what cloud computing means for eBay and what it means for buyers and sellers in the online marketplace. Here you go…

In addition to releasing the eBay application for Android internationally earlier today, eBay also announced the international release of the eBay Selling application and the eBay for iPad app. The Selling application is now available in Germany and the United Kingdom, and the eBay for iPad application is now translated into French, Italian, German and Spanish for international users and is currently available through all of Apple’s iTunes App Stores.

eBay has done an excellent job positioning itself as a leader in the mobile commerce market in a relatively short period of time. eBay launched its first mobile application for the iPhone in the Summer of 2008. In 2009, eBay generated over $600 million in GMV through its mobile platforms. eBay expects to generate over $1.5 billion in mobile GMV in 2010. In order to focus on the best selling and shopping experience, the specific AdCommerce program that allowed eBay sellers to purchase pay-per-click advertisements on search result pages linking to their eBay stores and listings will be retired for eBay.com and eBay.ca as of August 4, 2010. The service will continue for eBay sellers using AdCommerce in Europe and Australia.

According to the blog post, those that have recently purchased AdCommerce ads for their store or listings don’t need to do anything at this time because the placements they’ve already purchased to appear on these sites will automatically expire on August 4 with final billing to be sent out in early September.

The AdCommerce team is in the process of proactively contacting sellers involved in the program via email and phone call.

Bill Zielke, senior director of merchant services for PayPal, has an interesting post over on the PayPal blog talking about mobile payments – specifically PayPal Mobile Express Checkout – a mobile version of PayPal’s Express Checkout service that allows merchants to offer the PayPal experience to their on-the-go customers.

We are in the early stages with Mobile Express Checkout, and it’s being initially rolled out on the iPhone and Android 2.0 (and higher) devices by a few innovative retailers, including Nike and Buy.com, over the next few weeks. Jeff Wisot, vice president of marketing at Buy.com shared a few words about Mobile Express Checkout recently saying, “We’re seeing a huge opportunity in mobile commerce right now. PayPal’s Mobile Express Checkout will allow us to enhance the convenient shopping experience for on-the-go customers.”

Mobile Express Checkout will be available for the rest of our merchants later this summer. Here are just a few of the features it will include:

* One-stop payment service that allows merchants to sell to millions of mobile shoppers
* Quick deployment and integration to get merchants in the mobile game fast
* A seamless customer experience which is especially important with smaller screens and keyboards – no cumbersome data entry, just a few clicks and customers are done
* Strong fraud detection

• Three years ago we had just a couple hundred thousand visitors. Today we have over 5 million. What a birthday party!

• We started out with just a few thousand ads back in 2007, now we have nearly 1 million. Keep them coming!

• Did you know that the frilled shark has a gestation period of 3.5 years? It’s been three years for eBay Classifieds and we’re already generating over 50 million page views a month. Take that, frilled shark!

The 2010 follow-up was a who’s who of eBay community, and a great reminder of eBay’s roots. Between the knowledgeable speakers, the eBay themed painted fingernails, the custom eBay Nike shoes, and the “Griffettes”- ebay Radio’s 7th Anniversary was a party not to miss.

This was my first time attending such an event for eBay. While the crowd had no problem delivering me some tough questions during the eBay panel – I was impressed by how inviting and community minded the crowd was. In just two short days I have made connections that will last for years. And the collective eBay knowledge presented in the room was second to none. Check out this lineup.

Janelle Elms showed sellers how to make Best Match work for them. John “ColderICE” Lawson told sellers how to make their business bigger, badder, and bolder (John’s presentation was quoted multiple times after it was given). Cindy Shebley showed us how to use Facebook for our businesses. Cliff Ennico spoke on tax and legal answers. Marsha Collier spoke on customer service as the new marketing. Melinda Jackson showed sellers how to start and market Bay seller groups. Debbie Levitt spoke on store and listing designs that drive sales. Lynn Dralle covered product sourcing. And Alex Shui, Amanda Thomas, and Griff joined me on an eBay employee panel.

Informative and fun has been one of the unspoken mantras of eBay Radio and eBetsy, Griff and Lee kept the legacy going in grand style.

And on a side note, I want to thank Melinda Jackson and all of the twitter folks for campaigning to get me to the party. Let’s hope I can make it back next year! (Hopefully alongside RBH)

With over two million downloads, RedLaser is the top-selling iPhone barcode-scanning application for comparison shopping and product information using a mobile device. According to the announcement, eBay plans to integrate RedLaser’s accurate barcode-scanning technology into its leading iPhone apps including the eBay, Selling, StubHub and Shopping.com applications.

eBay intends to offer RedLaser as a free, standalone application – now available here. With the acquisition, eBay expects that RedLaser users will see an increase in selection as eBay integrates more than 200 million listings from the online marketplace and product inventory from over 7,000 global merchants on Shopping.com (including 95 of the top 100 online retailers).

Anecdotally, I joined a couple of our PR folks a few weeks ago and sat down with Robert Scoble (@scobleizer) to talk about eBay DEVCON 2010 and the conversation obviously turned to talk of what the future holds for online commerce in general. Scoble went so far as to say “you guys should acquire RedLaser…” to which we all nodded and acknowledged that we leave those decisions to the corporate development team. Good call Scoble. Good call.

It seems like every other blog post I write is related to mobile… and that’s a good thing. I’m genuinely excited to see the momentum that eBay has taken with regard to mobile commerce. Apple CEO Steve Jobs, when discussing the unveiling of the iPhone4 earlier this month, even used a quote from eBay CEO, John Donahoe, to emphasize the impact of iPhone/iPad applications on present day consumer habits…

eBay’s mobile apps are available to millions of iPhone, Blackberry and Android users in more than 190 countries and 8 languages.

I’ll leave you with this stat… a mobile purchase is made every 2 seconds via eBay’s mobile applications.

eBay Giving Works and MissionFish, eBay’s nonprofit service provision partner, received a Cause Marketing Halo Award in the Best Transactional Campaign category, which honors campaigns that generate donations via consumer activity.

Micki Sever, manager of eBay Giving Works marketing programs, and Sean Milliken, CEO of MissionFish, accepted the award at an event in Chicago on Thursday, June 3, on behalf of both organizations. You can check out a video interview with them here:

Each year, the Cause Marketing Forum recognizes one business and one nonprofit organization for their leadership and outstanding efforts in the pursuit of doing well by doing good. This year, in addition to eBay Giving Works and MissionFish, the Forum recognized Macy’s and Feeding America, along with General Mills, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Samsung and The Nature Conservancy.

eBay Giving Works, launched in 2003, empowers the eBay community to buy and sell items that support their favorite nonprofits. eBay Giving Works has raised $191 million globally to date for more than 22,000 nonprofits.

How Giving Works Works
eBay Giving Works was launched in 2003 to enable the eBay community to raise funds for their favorite charities. Funds are raised in four ways: Sellers donate 10 to 100% of their sales to a nonprofit and eBay waives that percentage of the seller’s fees. Nonprofits can sell their own merchandise. Buyers cans add a $1 or greater contribution when checking out. Customers can “Donate Now” directly to charity using PayPal.

In 2009, eBay spotlighted more charities on and offline, upgraded Give at Checkout and Donate Now and much more. The number of sellers with charity listings increased 60 percent over 2008. The number of charity listings increased by 150 percent. The overall program raised $50 million through transactional activity in 2009, nearly a third of the $162 million total it has raised since 2003.

The StubHub application is ideal for last minute planners and travelers, with features that showcase upcoming live events based on the user’s location or by their cities of choice. The application also provides social interactivity functions, enabling fans to interact directly with friends and family on ticket purchasing decisions by sending event and ticket details to a variety of email programs, Facebook and Twitter. In addition, the application integrates seamlessly with iTunes, enabling fans to sync their favorite artists to the application in order to monitor and easily identify when their top events of interest are coming to town. Finally, the application allows users to tag their favorite artists or teams for quick navigation and access.

I’ve already downloaded it and have been playing with the features. Slick, quick and fairly straightforward and intuitive, you can pay through your StubHub account, use PayPal or tie your credit card into the app for quick payment functionality too. I’ll use it for my next ticket purchase to take the clan to our next San Francisco Giants’ home game.

When you expose yourself to the online retail industry, you open up the floodgates to a whole host of rumors and myths about making easy money, and being able to achieve Top Rated Seller status by lunch time tomorrow!

To help set you straight, I’ve listed the top 4 myths about wholesale buying that seem to derail new sellers every day of the week:

Myth #1: Buying products in wholesale quantities means buying them at at least 50% less than the retail price.

Sorry to start out on a bad note, guys, but this is seriously incorrect! In reality, the wholesale cost of an item is usually 5-35% below the retail cost. Some big-time sellers with massive buying power might be able to get better discounts when they are in a position to buy in big bulk. Wholesale buying is a volume game: the more you buy, the less you pay per unit. But, if you are thinking you can buy a container load of jeans for a just a few hundred dollars, you would be wrong.

Myth #2: Wholesale suppliers won’t want to deal with me; I’m just an eBay seller making 30 sales per month.

Wrong! The truth is plenty of suppliers are more than happy to deal with the likes of eBay sellers. While you might only make smaller orders through them, it’s all the smaller businesses that are often the backbone of a supplier’s business. After all, a supplier who relies on the success of 3 or 4 major buyers is not really safe-guarding their business!

When checking out new suppliers to deal with, you might find that they have a very high minimum order which you cannot meet. However, I suggest that you email the supplier anyway and see if they will make an exception: suppliers know that they need to support new and small sellers in order to help them grow their business and stat placing those big orders.

Myth #3: You can buy designer branded goods like clothing, sunglasses, and jewelry for next to nothing, and resell them for enormous profits.

This is a particularly popular one. If you think you can buy an authentic Louis Vuitton handbag wholesale for less than $100, and resell it for $500, you are sadly mistaken. While it is possible to buy the latest designer handbags, the sad truth is, unless you are buying them from an authorized distributor, hey are highly likely to be fake.

While there is a consumer demand for fakes, selling them is 100% illegal. eBay has a whole division dedicated to checking that all designer and branded goods sold on their site are the real deal. If they cotton on to you selling anything less, you will have your account closed pronto. Worse still, if Customs catches you importing fake items, you could face heavy fines and imprisonment.

To sell most designer branded goods legally, you need to become an authorized reseller. This means jumping through some very high hoops. For example, some brand owners require you to have a brick and mortar retail store and a very high sales turnover (think $100,000 per year).

You are much more likely to be successful when selling non-branded everyday items like sporting or hobby equipment.

Myth #4: The best wholesalers can only be found online

While the internet certainly makes it easier for us to find new suppliers, and instantly price-up potential items, it would be a mistake to overlook the many other product-sourcing avenues available.

So what other options do you have?

• Trade Shows:

Tradeshows are exhibitions organized by industry leaders to showcase new products. They are a great way to stay ahead of trends and find new niche items to sell. Tradeshows are also a great way to build relationships with big suppliers. This can go a long way in getting you better deals and greater access to new, hot products. To find tradeshows in your area, you can simply search Google for the keywords “trade show” + the name of your area, or visit BizTradeShows.com.

• Trade Magazines:

Trade magazines such as The Closeout News are a great way of finding new suppliers and hot deals on wholesaler items. This is how the wholesale industry used to operate – before the days of the internet!

What makes trade magazines so valuable is that very few online/eBay sellers use them as a product sourcing method, but plenty of suppliers continue to list their there (and some only list in print publications), so the prices get driven down in your favor.

The iPad won’t be available internationally until the end of the month but, thanks to eBay, that doesn’t have to stop you.

I actually experienced this first-hand when I was in Las Vegas last month for the eCommerce Summit. My Macbook Pro took a digger at the beginning of the conference and I checked into the “Genius Bar” at the Apple store in The Forum Shops linked to Caesar’s Palace. Dropping it off for repair (which was successfully accomplished in less than 24 hours – superb customer service throughout), I noticed a gentleman surfing ebay.com from an in-store iMac. I asked him what he was doing and sure enough, the Apple store was only selling iPads to those people with reservations so he was going to buy one from eBay right there and then in the store! He even let me take a pic of him doing it:



According to eBay, this is not an isolated incident and it has turned into quite a trend for folks overseas. Check out the below graphic depicting the first two weeks of iPad exports from the US on eBay:



As you can see from the related reads below, people are paying a hefty mark-up to the actual sticker price of an iPad. Goes to show that despite the Fixed-Price trends over the past year+, when an item is in demand on eBay, the format that will continue to dominate and make the most sense for sellers is Auction.

Parts compatibility is a more efficient way for you to list parts that fit many vehicles. You no longer have to create and manage many listings, or include the names of all compatible vehicles in the listing title to help buyers find a part that fits. The second annual Social Innovation Awards were held in New York City last night and eBay’s Green Team received the social innovator award for employee engagement. The event – which recognizes corporations and nonprofits for implementing groundbreaking business strategies and programs – is organized by JustMeans, an organization that bridges the worlds of social media and corporate responsibility, and the Financial Times.

From the eBay Green Team blog post:

Today, more than 2,400 eBay employees in 23 countries are Green Team members. That’s roughly 15% of our global workforce, all of whom are supporting environmental causes in their local communities and promoting sustainable business practices within eBay – often during lunch breaks, at night and even on weekends.

Through the Green Team, we try to encourage all employees to participate with initiatives like our recent Big Green Idea contest, which invited more than 15,000 employees around the globe to submit ideas for how they would make eBay a greener company. Together with eBay’s CEO John Donahoe, employees voted on their favorites and helped us choose which projects to focus on implementing this year.

It’s a huge accomplishment and I just wanted to personally congratulate the team that made it happen. Excellent job!
