I am currently busy with 2 different projects at the same time: Mexico got Lucky; NORRA Mexican 1000 Race, 1309 Miles of a Baja Classic Story (BCS) 2014;
    2.    I try to live / experience everything of which I write about. I love Hemingway’s quote:
            “In order to write about life first you must live it.”
    3.    I write what comes my way and when I find a great subject I go for it.
    4.    My writing process is: I usually write in the evenings and late night while sipping a cerveza margarita. I do my best writing when alcohol is present and the night is dark.

It's been a long time since I have posted anything "real" on this blog. There was a time when I would post things about hope and miracles. Then I became obsessed with writing tips, my friends who are authors and even my own personal pursuit of being an author. Somewhere along the line things that mattered to me took a back seat to all of that. Now things have come full circle, at least in a small way. :)

I watched a movie called A Normal Heart, the story about the outbreak of the AIDS epidemic here in America. And that brought back so many memories.

For those who don't know, I grew up in San Diego, Ca., one of the ultimate melting pots of creativity, sunshine and different cultures. I had many friends who were gay and even some who passed away. That movie brought back their laughter and tears. This post, to me is important because it is a disease that has touched me on a personal level. Before you ask, no I don't have AIDS. Watching people you love and care about pass from this disease is not something you would soon forget. It's filled with more pain and kills the body mind and spirit in such a slow way that it should literally be something those going to hell should have to deal with, not those innocent people who were brave in the face of such an evil.

I find it strange that what once sent well educated people running to the hills, now barely makes a blip on the radar when it comes to news. AIDS/HIV is not new but it is still there. The estimated number of cases that turn up DAILY is 6000. I'm going to say that again in case someone decided to skim. The estimated number of cases that turn up DAILY is 6000. That number should be lower. We know how to prevent it from spreading and yet somewhere along the line our species that has such a strong will to live, can't seem to simply listen. That number is not for the Gay society only, it is for all people in our small part of the world.

I know that parents aren't comfortable talking to their kids about sex, but believe me when I say that if you don't, someone else will and that person may not end up having their best interest in mind. Please don't assume that your child is not having sex because it's something you don't want to consider. Please purchase condoms for them so that they are safe should they make that ultimate intimate decision. If we do not educate our children then we are raising our own apocalypse.

There is not a cure. There is merely life expanding drugs. To quote A Normal Heart, Polio was an incurable disease once...

I know that this isn't the usual post, but it is something that needs to be said and people need to be reminded that not only does this disease still ravage our world, but it steals our youth, our possibilities and our hope for the future. A cure can be found if people can remember that the real terrorists of the world are not those we see in foreign lands, they are the things we can't see with the naked eye.

Much love to all those who are dealing with this disease and putting up a brave fight.

A Normal Heart's cast was incredible, the story full of heartache and realism. The heaviness of the drama should and could only serve as a reminder of a friend of mine who passed from this horrible disease back when we didn't understand it. You are loved still, missed even now and will never be forgotten.

I have your suite key.” She pushed the white key-card over the surface of the front desk. “Your usual order of Veuve Clicquot and strawberries will be waiting in your room,” she added with a welcoming smile.

The self-assured gentleman removed his dark Porsche sunglasses and let his deep-set dark brown eyes linger over the young woman’s attractive face. “Afraid I won’t be needing that this time, Missy,” he murmured, getting a glimpse at her nametag.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Mr. Moore. I was informed you are always to have a bottle of Veuve Clicquot waiting in your room whenever you stay with us.”

Wandering over Missy’s stout figure, his eyes fixated on the way her blue blazer clung to her ample bosom. “I usually do when I’m staying here for a relaxing weekend. This time, however, is all business.” He placed his sunglasses in his jacket pocket.

Missy leaned forward, revealing her cleavage as her blue eyes meandered up and down his body. “I am very sorry to hear that, Mr. Moore.”

The flirtatious pout that puckered her red lips made Tyler Moore wipe his hand across his chin, attempting to hide his cocky grin. At six-foot-one, with black, wavy hair outlining his chiseled cheekbones and determined, square jaw, he was used to getting such suggestive looks from the opposite sex. But he knew that looks could only get you so far with a woman.

“How sorry are you?”

Missy’s eyes popped with interest. “I…I’m not sure what you mean, Mr. Moore.”

“How sorry are you that I won’t be having any fun this weekend, Missy?”

She fingered the lapel on her blue blazer adjacent to her right breast. “I would hate to think your stay here would only be about business, Mr. Moore. If there was anything I could do to change that….”

He felt a kick of satisfaction as he gazed into her hopeful eyes. “Perhaps you might come up with a few suggestions of other ways I could spend my weekend in your wonderful hotel? We could go over them later…at the bar, after you get off work.”

The pale blush blossoming on her cheeks was so becoming that Tyler almost began to believe their playful repartee had been worth the effort.

“I’ll think about it, Mr. Moore.”

“You do that, Missy. When you have an answer, you know where to find me.” He motioned to his overnight bag and black suitcase by the desk. “Be a sweetheart, and have the porter take my bags to my room. I have to meet a client in the bar before I go up to my suite.”

The flush on Missy’s cheeks was positively radiant. “Yes, Mr. Moore. Right away.”

Tyler turned from the polished reception desk, unable to hide his smug grin. No matter where he went, the lust in a woman’s eyes never got old. The entire episode with the desk clerk had only reinforced his belief that it was his confidence, and not his looks, that always got a woman to give him what he wanted. He had learned long ago that his handsome face could only take him so far in life, and had made a concerted effort to take control of any situation. It was a philosophy he had incorporated into every arena of his life.

“I’ll have to check back in with sweet little Missy. See how she looks without the blazer.” He strutted across the lobby toward the arched entrance of the Rattlesnake Bar.

A warm glow of honey, onyx, and a contemporary Western-theme greeted him as he stepped into the cool bar. Perched on the brown leather barstools, an array of women sipped on a myriad of colorful alcoholic concoctions while trying to chase away the sweltering afternoon heat. Tyler noted how more than one set of eyes turned his way as he strolled up to the bar. He checked his confidence at the door and pushed all thoughts of possible late night hookups from his mind.

His flourishing oil and gas business was always more important than women. Besides, women were nothing more than a distraction at this point in his life. Having just passed the milestone of his fiftieth birthday, Tyler pondered that perhaps it was time for him to stop pursuing such meaningless liaisons and settle down with a tolerable woman who could cater to all of his needs.

“Two divorces are plenty,” he reasoned as he arrived at the onyx marble and teak-topped bar. Lightly stroking the smooth surface of the marble, he remembered many of the encounters he had experienced in that very bar. Snapshots of blurred faces and forgettable names skipped across his mind. Some of the women had been exciting, a few horrific, but none had been…memorable.

You know who was memorable, don’t you, Ty? His inner voice taunted. She was the one you let slip through your fingers.

Tyler snickered at his self-remonstrations. He hated to admit his inner demon was right, but it was. She had happened so long ago, but he found it funny how advancing age only seemed to make the memories of youth more poignant. It was as if growing older brought into focus the emotions that the impetuosity of youth seemed to blur.

What is the Title of your latest book? What is it about? My latest book is called The Many Lives of Mandy. It is a collection of short Erotica stories dealing with the adventures of Mandy. Mandy and Devon have some lessons to catch up on in order for him to graduate, but Devon teaches her a few things of his own.
Mandy and Alex make sweet music together after all she wanted was for him to play a song for her on the radio.
Mandy and Derek have more than business on their minds after she takes a job as his personal assistant.
And Amanda and Michael meet when she stops at her favorite bar and grill for quick burger, but end up with much more than a side of fries.

What made you decide to write? I have always had little scenarios going through my head and one day I decided to put them down on paper. I never thought I would ever be published. I was doing it to try and quiet the voices in my head. Lol

What inspires you? I can be inspired by just about anything. I can see a couple walking down the street and it will trigger something in my head to come up with a story about them, I use past experiences in my own life, and music. Music is a big trigger for me.

What authors do you love? Wow, there are so many. Stephen King, early Charlaine Harris works, and of course all of my fellow authors at Firefly & Wisp.

What authors do you hate? I can’t think of one single author by name, but I cannot handle authors who will continuously use brand names for items. I read a book a while back that drove me nuts. Instead of saying she was taking an aspirin, it was Tylenol, instead of drinking a soda, it was a Pepsi. It was pages and pages of this type of thing. We the reader doesn’t need to know what brand it was, just that they used the item.

What authors do you hate to love? I don’t think I really have an author I hate to love.

Who is your favorite character in your book? My favorite character from my most recent book is Alex. He is based on an actual love from my past and I really enjoyed remembering that experience while writing the story.

What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most? I love building tension. Whether it is a sexual situation or an action piece, I love building that scene until it crescendo at the apex.

What part of the writing process do you least enjoy? Writing dialogue is the worst thing. For me, it is so time consuming and not very fun. I know what I want the characters to say, but putting it down on paper is tedious for me.

Can you tell us about your latest WIP? My latest work is called On the Back: My Life as a Biker’s Old Lady. I love bikers and bikes. I love Sons of Anarchy and that inspired the story. I wanted to write a story from the Old Lady’s point of view instead of the biker’s point of view. It tells the story of how a teenage girl goes from a good home to being in the middle of a biker club- the good and the bad.

What are some marketing tips you can share? No one wants marketing tips from me. I am horrible at it. Lol I wish I did a better job at getting my work out there.

What is your day job? I no longer have a day job. I used to be a Licensed Medical Massage Therapist, but I developed a condition that prevents me from practicing any more.

What profession other than writing would you like to try? I would love to be a doctor. I love the thought of helping people.

What is your favorite curse word? I actually have two. One I use only on the rarest of occasions, but F word or any variation of it is what I use the most.

What is your favorite word? Bizarre-I am not sure why I started using it, but I use it quite often and usually for no apparent reason. lol

What three things do you need to have around you when you write? Caffeine, music and the television on at the same time, and cigarettes.

What tips do you have for new writers? Write! Don’t try to emulate another author, use your own voice. Tell your own story. When we try to be the next JK Rowling or Stephen King, we will fail. They are already published, but you may not be out there already. Be yourself and have your own style.

What would you like to say to your fans? I would like to say that without you, I would not be here. I would not have my books out there. It is you, the reader, you keep me going. You are the best fans ever. I love meeting you and getting to know you. I would also like to say thank you for standing with me on my journey.

What is the Title of your latest book?

What is it about? The Supernova Saga: Event Horizon. It's the fourth and final book in The Supernova Saga. I don't want to give too much away about it since it's the fourth book in the series, but here's the blurb: From addiction and betrayal, to stalkers, jealousy, and death, Evania thought she'd faced it all. But there's no rest for the wicked, so there's never rest for a Guardian. After the run-in with their ultimate enemy, fearful dreams bring visions of fantasy and cryptic messages from a late best friend. In the final chapter, the supernova Guardian is faced with the biggest choice of her life. Every secret is revealed. Lines are drawn. An army is formed.

What made you decide to write?

I've been writing since I was eight years old. I like being able to take any inconceiveable idea in my head and make it real.

What inspires you?

Anything and everything. When I was writing the saga, I'd get inspired by songs, voices, quotes, a look from someone, a feeling, etc.

What authors do you love?

Stephenie Meyer and Suzanne Collins.

What authors do you hate?

None that I can think of.

What authors do you hate to love?

Haha None really.

Who is your favorite character in your book?

Desmond Kane. He's the ultimate Guardian. :) Everything about him screams hero. Being pretty gorgeous and muscular helps out too.

What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most?

Definitely not the editing. Haha. Probably the beginning, looking up names, places, researching, all of that.

What part of the writing process do you least enjoy?

Can you tell us about your latest WIP? I picked up a story I had one chapter done for NaNoWriMo. It's an urban fantasy about a girl, Cora, on the run from the mafia. They had tried to kill her, but miracuously she was saved by Tristan, who turns out to be a merman. I haven't seen too many stories out there lately with mermaids and mermen so I wanted to give it a try. :)

What are some marketing tips you can share?

Make book trailers, posters, post snippets from the books, bookmarks, etc. I love making book trailers. I have for all four books.

What is your day job?

I'm a kitchen manager for Applebee's. Almost eleven years.

What profession other than writing would you like to try?

Acting. I was in theater throughout highschool.

What is your favorite curse word?

Fuck. It's great for everything. :)

What is your favorite word? Whatnot. Lol

What three things do you need to have around you when you write?

A tasty beverage, Facebook, and a fan on for noise. I can't stand being in the quiet.

What tips do you have for new writers?

You don't have to be perfect, and you definitely don't need to go by all the rules. Write how you know how. I never took an writing classes and didn't go to college. I winged it and wrote a series. I know their not perfect, but they're mine.

What would you like to say to your fans?

Just because Evania's story has come to an end, doesn't mean the adventure is over. We still have a long road ahead of us, Noviacs. Red carpet, anyone? :)

Author Bio: Danielle Lee Zwissler was born in Dover, Ohio. A small town in North East Ohio. Her love of romance and cowboys took over in this novella. I don’t really any authors’ books. I can usually find something that I like out of each book that I’ve read.

I usually just read the same stuff from the same people… so... not I’m really not for this question.

Who is your favorite character in your book?

My favorite in this new book is Mary. She is the female lead.

What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most?

I enjoy coming up with the weird nuances that each character has in order to form their backgrounds and relationships.

What part of the writing process do you least enjoy? The editing.

Can you tell us about your latest WIP?

I am starting NANOWRIMO today. My story is called “Phat like Me” lol. It’s about a woman that was overweight and works out to change everything in her life… she loses the weight, still is awkward and finds out that dating anyone at any size sucks. It’s a comedy.

What are some marketing tips you can share?

I do Prime and Twitter pretty much together. I also list ads on craigslist, which I track, and surprisingly I get a lot of clicks from that. I’ve signed up with some blog tours and such. I just signed up with Substance Books. I’m hoping that will make the world of difference.

What is your day job?

Mom/Writer/Substitute Teacher/Weekend restaurant warrior

What profession other than writing would you like to try?

I would like to be a rancher.

What is your favorite curse word?

I can’t say it on here. It’s the mother of all. We go hand-in-hand…unfortunately.

What three things do you need to have around you when you write?

Computer, Blake Shelton CD, and something to drink.

What tips do you have for new writers?

Don’t get overwhelmed. Don’t worry about making the NY TIMES LIST… I’m selling pretty well now. Sure the books are only selling for .99, but a lot of people are reading my books and I am pretty happy for that. I have a lot of time left to worry about making it big.

What would you like to say to your fans?

Thank you so much for your support. You can’t imagine how much that means to me.

Zac Brown Band Rocked The House!!!

For this who listen to my show and follow my posts you already know that I went to the Zac Brown Band concert tonight. What I witnessed was nothing short of a musical phenomenon that ended with thonderous stomping demanding more ...and Zac Brown didn't fail to deliver.

The show opened with a guy named Levi Lowry and a new band name DUGAS (and yes I will be checking the spelling on that later.) While i didnt have the opportunity to catch Levi Lowry because i was waiting in many lines....Dugas was amazing! The female lead singer was able sweet sensation striking notes with her vocal cords that most humans find to be out of their realm of possibility. In short she was OFF THE HOOK! I understood why they opened up for Zac Brown Band. To quote one patron, "They sounded like a down home version of Evanescence." And I couldn't agree more.

With the energy rising in the pit the lights rose, reminding us that there was more to come. And so it is with this review...for now...*wink*

Can you tell us a little about how you got started in writing?

Writing has been something I always wanted to do growing up. I come from a family of writers and English teachers. My great aunt, Ruth White, the author of the Newberry Honor book Belle Prater’s Boy, Sweet Creek Holler, Memories of Summer, among other titles, has always been an inspiration to me. The idea that someone so close to me was a successful writer made that dream seem within reach.

I attended the University of Michigan in Flint, where I studied history and English. I became a master of research and creative writing after writing literally hundreds of research papers, stories, and literary analyses throughout my coursework.

But it wasn’t until October of 2009, when my friend, Andrew Utley, and I, decided to write a novel together that I actually wrote a novel. We had been talking off and on for a year about writing something together, but could never come up with a story to fit both of our interests, but then I suggested the story for what would become Harvester: Ascension.

The original idea was a story about aliens coming to earth and doing to us what Europeans did to the Native Americans. I thought that would put a little twist on the concept, as it was to follow strict historical parallels. But the story evolved and grew into something that became what it is today.

I have been writing novels ever since. My current library includes: Harvester: Ascension, An Inner Darkness, A Light in the Dark, and 9111 Sharp Road. And I have three in the works: City of Evil, Harvester: Evolution, and a Christmas-themed horror novel called Santa Claws and Fangs.

What is one of your favorite things to write about?

I like the dark side of our psyche combined with the struggle for acceptance…so in all of my novels you will find a struggle with insecurity and doubt…in other words, struggling with one’s own personality. In Harvester: Ascension, the character Lou Bryan has to struggle with the destructive power of his on-air personality. In An Inner Darkness, Decon Mangler and Teret Finley must deal with something that makes them question their oaths and traditions. In A Light in the Dark, Julian has to overcome his own insecurities and disbelief. And in 9111 Sharp Road there is an internal and external struggle with dark forces.

What do you think makes an unforgettable fantasy story?

An epic conflict involving well-developed, and flawed, characters that come alive and find a greatness within. I am a definite proponent of the idea that good fiction involves ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Can you tell us about 9111 Sharp Road?

This is a novella featuring Amanda, an 11-year-old girl who has just experienced the death of her father. The surviving family, which includes her mother and her 6-year-old sister, Lori, moves in with their gramma because they can no longer afford their own house. Gramma lives in this strange town called Orchard Hills, which is essentially a large cemetery that contains a few houses, a school, and a single road, known as Sharp Road. The house—its address is 9111 Sharp Road—is the biggest house in Orchard Hills.

Amanda thinks the place is creepy and her gramma, who she had never actually met before, is strange, but she doesn’t know just how off this place is until the first night when she sees a humanoid bat creature staring in at her through her bedroom window. She’s terrified, but tries to pass it off as her imagination, as a dream. The next morning her sister says she saw the same thing through her window.

It isn’t until her sister begins changing into one of these creatures that she realizes just how serious things really are.

And then there are those ghostly voices pleading from behind a mysterious door to be let out.

Who is your favorite character? Why?

I really like the Gramma in this story. She is so bizarre, she will make you laugh in every scene she’s in despite the fact this is a horror novel.

What made you decide to write this story?

I used to live in a house very similar to the house in this book. I spent many wonderful years of my life there and just wanted to include it in a story.

What is the one thing you would like to tell up and coming writers?

Don’t think you have to include everything about the characters or setting in the novel itself. One of the mistakes I see a lot in new writers is they want to tell the reader everything about the life of the character or what the setting looks like, even if it doesn’t do anything to advance character or story. You do not need to go into a lot of detail about what the character or scenery looks like unless it is relevant to the character or the story. There is a meme going around facebook that says something to the effect, “The curtains were blue—what your english teacher thinks it means: ‘The blue curtains represent the character’s depression.’ The Author says it means: ‘The curtains are blue.’” You know why your English teacher looks for deeper meaning in the description of BLUE CURTAINS? Because the writer made it a point to say they were blue. If the fact the curtains are blue has no deeper meaning, a good writer would not even bother saying what color they are.

Do you have any other work coming out?

I am working finishing up a horror novel called City of Evil within the next few months. This is much darker than anything else I have ever written.

Which do you prefer, self-publishing or traditional and why?

Self-publishing allows you to get your work out there immediately and to get audience reaction…that was one of the reasons I self-published 9111 Sharp Road instead of going through my publisher. But self-published titles often lack the proper editing.

Any advice to give writers?

Write every day and read constantly.

Ten minutes of standing under freezing cold water had turned Nora’s skin blue, but it had done nothing to dampen her desire. “Agh!” She allowed free rein to her frustration, not caring whether or not the running water covered her scream. She turned off the faucet and sat on the edge of the tub. This was so unfair. They had come so close. Hunter had wanted her—seemingly as much as she wanted him. She still wasn’t quite sure what went wrong. Dammit, I should never have agreed to stay for dinner. This was her fault. It wasn’t that she was in love with Hunter. She was too smart to allow that to happen. But she had made up her mind, made a decision that she would allow herself some pleasure—and why not? Then having done so, she had set out to try to make it happen. Not that she would have seduced him or done anything quite so bold. She’d just decided that she wouldn’t pass up any opportunities that came her way. She knew he found her attractive. He had said as much, demonstrated it, too. He wasn’t a saint, and given his reputation it wasn’t unreasonable to expect him to make a move on her while they were sharing the same suite. Only now they weren’t. She inhaled deeply and willed away the threatening tears. No, she wouldn’t cry for him. It was only sex. She shouldn’t allow herself to feel this much anguish over one night. She stood and towel-dried her hair. It was probably for the best, anyway. What was the point of one night of mindless sex? She thought about Taylor and wondered what her relationship with Hunter had been like. Was she in love with him? Or had the sex been that good? Whatever the reason, the woman was still crazy about him, although he seemed to have little interest in renewing what they’d had. Nora rubbed the condensation off the mirror and stared at the face looking back at her. She tried to be objective, but all she could see was a woman about to turn thirty-five. Tiny lines were beginning to form at the corners of her eyes—he’d called their color café noir when they’d first met—and there were more lines just above her top lip. Her age had never bothered her—in fact, she’d always felt she’d accomplished a lot while still quite young—at least professionally. But dammit, it would be nice to experience fantastic sex at least once before I’m thirty-five. What was it about turning thirty-five that disturbed her so much? It was just a number. Her lips were a rosy pink and slightly swollen. She touched them gently, remembering the feel of Hunter’s mouth as it grazed hers, and then the hard urgency with which he had kissed her in the garage. Stop it. She turned away, frustrated. This was getting her nowhere. Forget it. Forget him. None of it mattered anyway. Tomorrow morning she’d be back in her real world, and all this would be nothing but a memory. She heard a noise and paused to listen more intently. Was that banging? She slipped on a robe—the scratchy generic one provided by the hotel, not at all like the luxurious plush one she’d borrowed from Hunter—and opened the bathroom door. Yes, someone was definitely pounding on her door. “Who’s there?” she called, tightening the belt of the robe. “Room service.” What? “I didn’t—” She stepped up on her toes to peek out the peephole. Her knees felt like jelly and she leaned against the door, closing her eyes and murmuring a heartfelt “thank goodness.” Then she looked again to make absolutely certain her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her. Hunter was magnificent in a fresh pair of dark khaki pants and a red golf shirt. His hair looked damp, as if he had just stepped out of a shower, too. In one hand he balanced a platter, covered by a large silver lid. He was impatiently shuffling from one foot to the other. She pulled open the door and stepped back, waiting. Hunter’s eyes widened and then he dropped his gaze to take in her bare toes. Slowly he raised his head. His appraisal of her was slow and intense. She felt exposed, and rubbed her palms against the fabric of the robe just to assure herself she had actually put one on.
