Salutations listeners! Welcome back to the Egalitarian Fun Hour! This episode, with our special guest, Matthew Lanus, back on the show, we collectively review our Lollapalooza experience from last weekend. Above, you'll find a special episode of our podcast - a preview to the Lollapalooza music festival being held this weekend in Chicago's Grant Park. Seeing as I am home in the suburbs of Chicago, I invited my brother, Matt, to join the show while we performed some technical magic and Skyped Shannon in from Los Angeles while simultaneously recording her audio - pretty complicated stuff. Anyway, in this show, we discuss those bands that we're most looking forward to, some noticeable changes to this year's festival, some Lanus family Lolla stories, and Matt gives us some important festival-going tips and tricks. As seems to now be usual, we ran into a few technical glitches while recording. Upon editing the show last night, I realized that at a certain point in time (around the 14 minute mark) both of our microphones severely malfunctioned such that the audio was significantly distorted - it was truly unlistenable. This remained true for my mic throughout the rest of the show, but fortunately Shannon's mic resolved itself, and so I cut out her unlistenable bit and the rest of the show takes place using only her microphone with my voice bleeding through. I bumped up the levels of my voice where I could to make volume levels more comparable. This hiccup was really unfortunate because I really enjoyed the conversation that we had, but we hope that the interesting parts shine through some of the technical glitches.

Welcome back! Above, you can find our second official podcast where we invited our friends Rufino and JD onto the show with us to talk about a number of things, including the PLACE Corps Send-off Celebration, the nature of a good board game, and trivia night at the Cock n' Bull, as well as featuring a number of songs, especially one by Drew DeFour, JD's brother.

We recorded this show yesterday - a very warm day in Los Angeles - and so decided to record in the dining room area of the house instead of in the chapel, as we did for Episode 1. Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to us, the dining room area turned out to be much more echo-y than the chapel, and that feature certainly becomes noticeable on the recording. Bear with our experimentation while we find out what works and what does not work, as the show is still enjoyable to listen to.

An Explanation of Infrequency

Good morning all! We apologize for the infrequency of our podcast so far - there have been a few hiccups along the way. First of all, while I was pleased with the overall content of our first podcast, as I mentioned upon posting the audio, I wasn't entirely pleased with the actual audio quality, specifically the volume levels of the recording.

Regardless, Shannon and I were all geared up for recording a second podcast this past weekend, seeing as our goal was to post at least one podcast per week. However, we encountered a couple issues. First of all, we weren't exactly sure what we should be talking about - should each show have a theme? Should we simply talk about our day and hope something interesting comes of it? Should it be entirely or moderately scripted or pre-rehearsed, if at all? We were discussing these things for a while as we were sitting down, and when we came to a common understanding and wanted to test the mics for functionality, we realized that my mic was working and Shannon's mic was not. This was a problem, and I immediately realized that this was issue that caused the volume problems of our first recording.

You see, Macs come with this great software to record audio called Garage Band, which is a really awesome venue to create a podcast, if you so choose. However, there is this one hangup such that traditionally, you can only record audio through a single USB microphone - any other additional microphones plugged into a different USB port will fail to pick up audio. There exists a roundabout way to solve this dilemma if you would like to record audio from two distinct mics (as we are), and I thought I succeeded at following through with this method, but I realized that I failed to complete the last step of the process, thus no microphone for Shannon in our first podcast, and thus low volume levels for Shannon. The good news is that I have now gotten the kinks out of our audio problems, and the next step is to actually figure out what kind of content we want to include in our podcast.

So, with that being said, we plan to have a new show recorded and up on this site within the coming week. But in the meantime, to keep our (abundance of) listeners satiated, I found a really old video of what must be one of my great-grandfathers or something. It must have been recorded in the '20s or something seeing as its really grainy. If you look really closely, though, I feel like there is some significant resemblance between the subject on the video and myself. Here, have a look for yourself!

Welcome to our podcast/blog! Above, you'll find the first episode that we recorded last night. In it, we introduce ourselves and our motives behind broadcasting within this kind of medium, we take part in a short discussion of the desire and search for authenticity, and we share with you a few songs we quite enjoy lately. Take note that this is our first episode, and as we made mention in the recording, we are still experimenting with the medium, seeing what works and what we can improve upon. In this episode in particular, forgive some of the sound issues - particularly instances where I'm slightly distorted and where Shannon might be a little too soft.
