The current situation in Iran prompted Payman & Sina to update Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis via the very old technique of cut, past and modify (see also here – scroll down).  The result, the 14 page Persepolis 2.0, can be read on Flickr.

Syndicated comic Baldo, created by Hector Cantú and Carlos Castellanos, is joining a campaign to raise awareness for the dangers of diabetes. In a series of comic strips that began yesterday Baldo learns that his father has diabetes. Baldo, who thought he brought on his father’s ill-health by worrying him with his antics, comes to his father’s aid with support to help him exercise more and his sister, Gracie, encourages the family to eat healthier.

Baldo is the creation of Hector Cantú and Carlos Castellanos, and the first nationally syndicated comic strip featuring a Hispanic family. Baldo is seen in more than 200 U.S. newspapers, telling the story of 15-year-old Baldo Bermudez, his caring father Sergio, eight-year-old sister Gracie, and great aunt (Tía) Carmen. Greenpeace and the Muria Institute have created a comic book to warn the Indonesian people of the dangers of nuclear power.  The book, called Nuclear Meltdown, A Message of Darkness tells of two teenagers who are zapped into the future, to an Indonesia that is totally devastated by the explosion of a nuclear reactor.  They then try to travel back in time to prevent the disaster from happening.

The book was created as a reaction to the Indonesian government’s plan to build a nuclear power plant in central Java.  It can be downloaded on the Greenpeace site (in Indonesian).

Shamus Young’s webcomic DM Of The Rings is a hilarious retelling of the Lord Of The Rings saga as a Dungeons & Dragons quest.  Quite recognisable – I felt I was 20 years in the past again

The Super Sonics is an online comic-with-sound that Saatchi & Saatchi Denmark created in August 2008 for the Danish sound production studio Supersonic.  Starting from a plot developed by Supersonic’s creatives themselves, and meant to showcase all the aspects of the studio’s services, the book was sent round to advertising agencies all over Denmark.  Creatives from these agencies contributed to what has essentially become a high-octane cadavre exquis, while Supersonic’s sound wizards provided dialogue, songs, and effects.

Even if you don’t understand a word of Danish, the result is simply stunning.

During the war, Camels cigarettes were promoted by women heroes (even though they’re supposed to be Army men’s cigarettes).  After the war though, sports stars would do just nicely.  But the national surveys maintained…
