3rd World

After visiting my first 3rd counties I believe it is relatively difficult to fully comprehend the reality of day to day life there without experiencing it in person. I saw struggle in so many places that it humbled me in a way I can’t quite explain, my eyes are wide open.

On a positive note I met a spider monkey, what an incredible animal.

I have learnt so much about the human condition on this trip. For example it appears that an active concern for the environment is a luxury only afforded to 1st world countries.

La Paz in Bolivia is a depressing mess, rubbish and filth everywhere (even more so in the outskirts), there are also so many homeless animals. I will return with an awareness I never anticipated.

Cusco

25 hours travel later and I find myself in medieval Cusco. It’s a fascinating place full of colour and vibrant culture. I have loved the experience of being here. Poverty however is never hard to find, it is humbling, and I am more appreciative than ever of my homeland.

35 hours to get to Lima in Peru because of volcanic ash cloud. Lima is an under developed dust pit. I’m very much out of my comfort zone. Onward tomorrow to lagoon in the desert. Miss my girls xo

Off to Peru

I’m headed off to Peru in two weeks to travel with my brother. I’m super excited, but also somewhat anxious as I haven’t traveled in a few years. Headed off to the unknown, it’s a surreal feeling. Sydney to Santiago, Santiago to Lima, then onward across Peru to Bolivia. I’m looking forward to experiencing a different culture. The language barrier will be interesting…
