A Very Special Proposal at Society Hill Dance Academy, Philadelphia PA

We just had to share this very special philadelphia proposal sent to us from Michele Velazquez a marriage proposal planner who owns theheartbandits.com!

The Story:

A couple months ago, one of the nicest guys ever, Dave, contacted theheartbandits.com to help plan his proposal to Jessica as he really wanted it to be something special. Jessica loves dancing so the concept of a dance studio proposal was created. Once the proposal idea was selected, The Heart Bandits jumped into action to coordinate the event. They contacted the Society Hill Dance Academy, the perfect location for the proposal and got to work!

Here is how it all went down - Dave told Jessica that he had a date planned for Saturday night to take her to a Tango dance class. Jessica was super excited because she loves dancing! Besides, who wouldn’t be happy if their man thought of such a creative date idea? At 7pm, they showed up for their dance class and there were photographers taking pictures. The group was told that the photographers were there taking pictures for the studio, but really they were photographers hired to photograph the proposal!

After the dance lesson, Dave and his girlfriend were given a tour of the studio - the last stop of the tour was a studio that was transformed into a proposal paradise. There were over 70 candles, creating a pathway to an easel that was displaying a picture of the couple. Next to the couple was a table set up with a special candle that Dave provided. Dave walked Jessica up to the easel and explained to her how much he loved her. He then revealed a sign that was behind the picture that said “Jessica Will You Marry Me”? And of course she said yes! How adorable!

Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is one of Philadelphia's unique and uber special gems and also one of The Fab Bride's "Top 10 reasons to get married in Philadelphia". This venue is perfect for a wedding but if your wedding location is already booked, how about stopping by to do your bridal portraits there or even your engagement session - The beautiful glass mosaics make for such amazing photographs!

To give you an idea of what to expect from Philadelphia's Magic Gardens we've reached out to them and done a bit of homework for you!

Whats the History of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens?
Mosaicing since 1968 and completing over 130 murals throughout Philadelphia, renowned artist Isaiah Zagar dedicated fourteen years of his life to crafting this incredible folk art installation. Facing demolition in 2002, the community rallied to save the cherished site, thus creating the nonprofit organization, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.

How big is Philadelphia's Magic Gardens?
It covers three full city lots, and is a breathtaking outdoor and indoor location. The outdoor space of Philadelphia's Magic Gardens is best described as a labyrinth of mosaics and sculptures from around the world. The property also consists of three fully-mosaicked indoor galleries. Events at the gardens parallel the art of Isaiah Zagar; like Zagar's mosaics, no two events are exactly alike! When hosting an event in the Gardens, renters are invited to utilize the outdoor labyrinth as well as our indoor galleries.

How many guests can the space accommodate?
For seated receptions the maximum capacity is 75. If you are interested in having a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres the maximum capacity is 100.

Are couples allowed to bring in outside vendors?
Couples are responsible for arranging for their own tables, chairs, tents, decor, and catering, and they welcome your preferred vendors to make the experience a magical one. However, they are also more than happy to provide great vendor recommendations as well. Unlike many other venues, they have no in-house catering service requirements or alcohol restriction.

Amanda and Christopher are both trained chefs who met on Match.com (Amanda owns Sweet Ruminations Custom Cakes Desserts Shop). They also both happen to share purple as their favorite color. They connected and scheduled a date for drinks and the rest as they say is history!

Where and when they got engaged (by Amanda):
For his thirtieth birthday, he insisted on having dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. A little pricey, but it was where we had savored our first real dinner date together. He loved their selection of wild game and unusual meats. I liked their wide array of wines and chocolate desserts. Throughout dinner, at the corner table where we always sat, he kept reflecting on how his life had changed since we had met. I naively interpreted it as experiencing a thirtieth birthday crisis, and kept changing the subject. Finally when dessert came and I attempted to divert the direction of conversation for the thirteenth time, he interrupted me. "Let me finish what I'm saying," he said abruptly. Confused, I looked at him as he pulled out a ring. His hand quivering a bit and a hint of a gleam in his eyes, he told me that for his thirtieth birthday, what he really wanted was for me to marry him. Stunned, I put the ring on my finger and tried not to cry. The waitstaff, apparently aware of his plan, immediately brought out champagne with my slice of chocolate torte. It was the first time in my life I couldn't touch my dessert.

Their wedding budget:
Amanda and Christopher's wedding was very DIY on a strict budget. The reception was decorated with vibrant Bluecoat Gin bottles re-purposed as vases, compliments of the wonderful people down at the Philadelphia distillery, filled with antique hued carnations. The garden patio's waterfalls, lush flowers and twinkling lights set the mood.

Amanda's advice for future brides:
Take time to enjoy it all. Don't let anyone tell you what you must do. Remember that it is your wedding and your story.
