There are several things to consider when you’re not feeling well, and deciding where to go is one of the most important decisions you will make. Our house is a few minutes tricycle ride from Davao Gulf so every time that we feel like smelling fresh air we just go there mostly during late afternoon. Macky is such a beach bum and it made him very happy every time we went there. He would practice his back diving stunts in the water and would eagerly demonstrate his swimming skill as if there is.LOL! (Peace my dear!) It was a cool beautiful afternoon and the water was so inviting that is why I was also encouraged to swim although I initially plan not to.

Swimming is an activity our family loves doing aside from eating. Davao Gulf is just nearby and you can swim anytime you like for free. I always grab the chance to bond with my family especially with Macky now that I am still here and Macky is still a kid because I want to store good and happy memories with him in his childhood.

Music has been very instrumental in bringing our family to service. It has been my husband’s past time to play guitar especially if he wants to learn new songs. He is also playing guitar when serenading me and our daughter, Bella every now and then.

When he resigned from his job, we decided to join the Couples for Christ Community. Right after graduating from the Christian Life Program, we were immediately called to serve in the CLP thru the music ministry. We are very happy for the opportunity to serve God through the community. We may be not that talented but we consider it an honor to serve God thru our music.

To make sure that we sing the songs properly, my husband and I are practicing together at home. Bren is the one playing the guitar while I am the one singing. There were times when his guitar strings would break that is why he is has decided to look for guitar strings that are durable and sturdy enough to stand long a long jamming.

Drum and Bugle Corps

I always wanted my nephew to enhance his skills and explore new things for him to discover his hidden talents. I believe he is a talented young man but he sometimes lacks the confidence to try anything new. When he was still in a private school, he used to be a Chess champion and he was also a varsity member of the basketball team. He loves listening to music of any genre and he can easily memorize the songs by heart. I know he can sing really well because I’ve heard him sing a lot of times.

We made a decision to enroll him to a public school during the opening of classes last year because he’s been prodding us consistently. He wanted to play basketball in the new school but he didn’t get the chance to join the tryout. I know he was frustrated about it but I hope he will be able to find new things or activities to do. Joining the school’s Drum and Bugle Corps would be a great idea. Aside from meeting new friends, he can also get the chance to discover more of his musicality by playing the best dw snare drums during practices and even during their parades and competitions.

I hope Macky would consider looking for other activities especially joining the Drum and Bugle Corps rather than playing DOTA.

Teen’s Curiosity

Oh, how time flies! Macky have grown so fast and a month from now he will be turning fifteen. He is already in Grade 8 and in no time he will be graduating from high school. We are all very excited for him. As a teenager, he is very curious about many things from the physical changes in his body to developing relationship with the opposite sex. In fact at his age, he has already counting girlfriends and two of whom he has introduced to us.

Whenever he sees something new or things that he did not understand, he would always ask questions. He is into new hobbies nowadays. His interests include sports, music, computers games and hanging out with friends. As an Aunt, I wish he would concentrate more on developing his skills in music. I am actually encouraging him to practice playing guitar and other musical instruments. I hope that one day when resources permit, I can buy him a nice guitar online. I have seen a website that has very wide selections of musical instruments and when I click the word send for our free catalog, I was amazed by the wonderful assortments they have in their store.

The Weird Pomelo Tree

Our neighbor who owns a Water Apple Tree (Tambis in Bisaya) and he gave us some of its harvest. I believe that he gave a lot that we can’t consume it even for several days. Macky and the rest of the people in the house had a bonding session eating a whole bunch of “tambis” but when they can eat all of them, Macky and Tita Dindin started putting it on the Pomelo Tree in my mom’s garden.

With Bella giving them an idea, together, they stick the tambis to pomelo tree’s thorns.

They were so amazed of how it looked like because it looks real but really really weird especially if you know that it was a Pomelo Tree. Lots of people from the neighborhood went inside our place to take a look at the weird Pomelo tree.

Summer Tips For Kids At Home

Are your kids staying at home for the summer? Once your children get to a certain age, you can't really enroll them into an expensive daycare. There comes a point in every parent's life where they must learn to trust their children to stay at home alone. That time usually comes when there is a summer break for the kids but you have to go to work everyday. Here are some tips for parents to keep their children at home entertained and safe.

Chores

Some children do best where there is a structure. Summer gives many children a bunch of free time that they are not used to. Keep them busy with at least one chore to do every day, or at least every other day. Tell them to vacuum the carpet or dust the family room. Have a weekly inspection of their room at the end of the week. If you come home to a clean house, you can reward them with a treat or a little extra something that will make them happy. You can make a list for your child to do throughout the week and have them check it off at the end. There are endless possibilities to keep your child busy and to help keep the home clean for when you come home.

Art Projects

Many children get bored because they have nothing interesting to do at home when they are alone. Kids can't go out and buy the things that will keep them happy and stimulated. Do something to keep them entertained. Provide them with whatever they need to stay out of trouble for the summer. Buy them pencils and a sketch pad. If you know that your teen is well behaved and clean, buy them paints. You will be surprised with that your children can do with a little encouragement and the right tools.

Safety

Staying home alone for the summer isn't without any danger. Strangers can come up to the home and knock on the door while you are gone. Teach your children not to answer the door for any stranger, and not to make any sign that they might be inside. It is also wise to tell your children not to go outside at all unless you are home to supervise them. It might seem a bit restrictive to now allow them in the backyard, but it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your kids.

If you have home security systems from companies like Smith Monitoring, your child can have access to a panic button. This way, if someone strange is at the door and isn't going away, your child can easily press the panic button on your home alarm. Of course, make sure your children know their address and how to call 9-1-1. Have a designated safe spot in the house for your child to go to in case of a burglar entering the home. A good place is a closet that has a lot of stuff in it for them to hide among.

Playing Good Music Together

Macky’s father is already home for good. His plans of working to Europe were not materialized. The decision was not his to make but he was somehow thankful for what happened because he now spend time with his son whom he has not seen for almost two years.

Now that they are both here, part of their bonding time is playing good music together aside from doing the masculine stuff like motorcycle riding and carpentry. My brother was never interested in learning to play any musical instruments but he loves listening to his favorite band playing their songs using gator instruments. Macky’s interest in music started when he was still a little boy but he only get the chance to play guitar during his vacation in our province last year.

I hope that the bond of the Father and Son will grow into something productive and beneficial for both of them. Rock on Father and Son!

A Different Kind of Summer

Summer is here once again! I know Macky is so excited about summer because aside from the usual summer activities he does with his friends; his father is also planning a vacation for him in Cagayan de Oro. As much as I want to, I also wish Macky would enjoy his vacation doing his usual activities but I believe this summer is a little bit different from the past.

Macky needs to take a few summer classes this time. I have to admit that his public school stay was not as fruitful as expected so for him to be able to proceed to the next level this coming school year, it is a must for him to take summer lessons on several subjects.

For this summer, I have enrolled him in a private school and negotiated a few conditions with the school principal where I intend to enroll him this coming school year. And because of his performance in the public school, I am now decided to transfer him back into a private institution. The tuition fees may hurt his father’s pocket but I think that is the better option for Macky right now.

This may be a different kind of summer for Macky but I do hope he will appreciate it and hopefully do better with his lessons this time.

Singing to the Beat of…

It always makes me smile catching my nephew Macky singing to the beat of his favorite songs. One of his favorite songs is a reggae entitled Safe and Sound by Rebelution. It looks like he can’t help but sing and dance in a swirlygig routine whenever he is playing it on his phone. He may not be the best dancer but he can definitely compensate it with his voice. Yes, Macky can sing really well.

I was curious about the song when I heard it from him so I searched it on YouTube. When I listened and watched it, I don’t know but it makes me want to dance and sing to the beat of its music too. Funny! Now, I can relate to why Macky is always in a cheerful mood anytime he hears his favorite song.
