Betrayal, gossip, illness and obstacles in personal life and work.

Avoid:
Check if there is any items in both the NE and SW sector, that is either triangular in shape or red, purple, brown or orange in colors. (Don't paranoid) I mean items that look relatively big and significant, that usually a is a display item.

Cures:

Metal; metal is associate the colors gold, metallic, white, bronze and the number 6. Metal is also associate with round or dome shape.

I am blogging on a DIY Feng Shui Blog and I believe that a good Feng Shui cure should not cost anything so the most effective and practical cures for both the annual Yellow Sha and sickness star is to keep the area tidy and quiet. Minimize the usage of electronics items, (e.g. radios) in the NE and SW sector. In fact it is best to totally remove the electronics gadgets away from the NE and SW sector. It is not necessary to shift your room to another room if you are already occupying them in the NE or SW sectors. Don’t occupy the NE or SW sector and make it your bedroom or make any major constructions in that sector after the Chinese New Year. Do everything you need to do before the Chinese New Year. (Base on the Chinese Solar Calendar)

There is also items for sales in the market to counter the two calamity stars and the more common and popular one is the calabash and the 6 Chinese bronze round coins. Just go shopping in Chinatown and get some beautiful Feng Shui calabash and display them in the NE and SW sector.

One the most popular cure for this star is to place water with 6 bronze Chinese coins in the sector. As suggested by practitioners, the water is stagnant in this manner, thus by adding salt into the water will bring live into it. I have heard that (but I am not certain) the more the water turn yellow color the better it is the benefits. This is because if the water turn yellow it means that it is ‘absorbing the Sha’ for you.

Flying star chart and the floor layout

There are two methods to impose the flying star chart which you have just created onto the actual floor layout of a property. The traditional method is to divide your floor plan into 9 squares of 3 rows times’ 3 columns square. The more modernize and westernize method is to divide your floor plan into 8 equal sectors resembling a pie chart. There is no method that is more superior to the others; both methods have its pros and cons. If you have watched some Kung Fu movies, you would have realized that the traditional Chinese house is very squarish in design with its rooms separated into squarish cubicles. That, I believe is the reasons why the traditional method of imposing the flying star chart had came along.

The 8 Pie Sector Method

I want to describe only the 8 pie sector method because I prefer this method over the other and the reason is because this method is more scientifically satisfying. This method also eliminates a lot of debating question mark. The 8 sector method does have its cons but I would personally classify them as very minimal.

Center of the property

First of all, you will need to determine the center of your property. If the layout of the property to be audit is squarish, we would just draw two lines from across the corners of the layout and take the intersections of the lines as the center. As the architects and designers all have ideas of their own and wanted to distinguish them from each another, we have many irregular floor plans today. Many people including me have pondered over the question of ‘what do you mean center?’ My preferred method is simple; the center of the property is the gravitational center. Here is how I do it.

You need your floor plan of course, for those who doesn’t have a ready floor plan, get yourself a measuring tape, pencils, and some papers and do the sketching yourself. The precision of the measuring tape is measured in centimeters, which is good enough. Some practitioner use laser meter and there are some very sophisticated practitioners using very advanced equipments like total station and theodolite. (They are not primary designed for Feng Shui) Well, do people have all this equipments in the past? So just get to work with a measuring tape and a compass. If you are sketching for your own floor plan, just be sure that it is drawn to scale.

After you obtain an architect drawing or a self sketch floor plan, cut them out following the perimeter of your floor plan. Glue your floor plan cut out onto a cardboard. Cut the cardboard to shape by following the shape of your floor plan. (Or simply just sketch the floor plan onto the cardboard itself and cut it to shape.) Suspend your cardboard with a plum line (a string tie with a weight on one end) on each corner or edge of the cut out. (Or at least with two corners) There will only be one intersection where these lines meet and that is your gravitational center. Refer to the diagrams below.

Aligning with the Magnetic North

Now you have located your center of your floor plan, you will need to divide them into 8 equal sectors. What we have just done is only to locate the center of your property. We now step away from the paper craft that you have just created. Physically, you need to locate that center of your property. There are a few methods, usually a traditional Feng Shui compass will have a square base, and practitioners can directly align the compass against the walls or doors to locate their directions. Assuming that you are using a normal compass, so one method is to locate a datum corner with some references corner and tape that corner to the center or your property. Refer to diagram below.

After you have physically crawl the floor plan, now we come back to the paper cut out, place your compass on the center of the paper cut out that was derived earlier on and align them with the datum angle. (The reference angle is for counter checking) Divide them into 8 sectors of 45 degrees equally. Fill the numbers of the flying star chart into the floor plan. Here you go, it’s done. Refer to the diagram below.

Some common thoughts on the 8 pie method

This 8 pie method is more popular in Western countries and also in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. Many practitioners are also starting to adopt this method. This method marks out the exact sector evenly base on angles thus is seem more logical in thoughts.

The most problematic thing about this method is that it usually divides an area of a property into 3 or 4 pieces, making it very hard arrange the furniture. This method cannot, or make it unrealistic to perform small ‘Taiji’ (a micro view on each room) on each sector. This method creates 8 sectors rather then the traditional 9 squares, thus making the amount of the covered area in the center palace inconsistent.

Don’t Ruin Your Feng Shui and Your Destiny Like Michael Jackson

It is a tragedy that we lost our King of Pop without seeing him on stage for at least one last time. Was his life simply a path he had to take based on his destiny? Was there something he could have done (or not done) to live a happier, more fulfilling life? To answer these questions from a Chinese Metaphysics perspective, we will look at the three factors of Chinese Destiny: Heaven, Earth and Humanity. Heaven Luck is governed by a person’s Chinese Astrology chart or BaZi. Earth luck is how the Feng Shui of our living environment affects us. Man luck or Humanity represents the actions we take. In Michael Jackson’s case, I think it will be interesting to examine how he changed his own destiny by altering his facial features.

First of all, let’s take a look at Michael Jackson’s BaZi chart - Male born 29 August 1958 at 8:47am:

The structure of this chart is called Eating God structure. Eating God represents artistic talent, creativity and intelligence. This chart belongs to someone who truly believes in art and creates art for art’s sake. People with Eating God structure are perfectionists. Their art tends to last through time. They are proud of themselves, like to do their own thing and do not care about what others think. Because of that, they tend to be viewed as eccentric by the public. Gianni Versace is another example of Eating God structure.

While Eating God people are artists, they are best at working behind the scenes. They are not the performing types and should stay away from the limelight. I am not saying that Michael Jackson was not a good performer. I am saying that he would have found more satisfaction working as a song writer or producer and mentoring the next generation of musicians. The fact that he had to come out into the spotlight and perform again must have created a lot of pressure and anxiety for him. As for timing, this year is simply not the best year for him to return to the stage. This year is Ji Chou which is stacking earth. Earth covers up metal which represents his talents. If he was looking for any new ideas and breakthroughs in either his music or his performance, he would have had a very difficult time.

You will notice that this chart is almost all Yang. In Chinese Metaphysics, we prefer balance. This chart is clearly imbalanced. A person whose chart has more Yang than Yin is more of an extrovert. However, when Yang becomes extreme then it reverts to the opposite. This chart tells us that while Michael Jackson could have been a talkative person, he liked his solidarity. He was born in the autumn season with metal being the strongest element in this chart. When metal becomes very strong, it means depression and loneliness. It is clear that he had a tendency to become depressed. To bring balance to a chart that is cold, we will prescribe fire element to warm up the chart. Western medicine is an example of fire element. However, a more effective fire element recommendation would have been spiritual studies. If Michael Jackson had pursued some spiritual studies (not necessarily in the religious sense) such as Buddhism, he may have found more peace with himself and would been able to appreciate more of what he had accomplished.

In addition to the basic BaZi chart, we all go through life cycles in ten-year blocks. Michael Jackson entered one of these ten-year life cycles back in 2000 and was about to enter a new ten-year life cycle. During the last ten years, his creativity and artistic abilities were affected. In other words, he suffered from artist’s block. The sad thing was he was about to get out of this writer’s block and rediscover his creativity. 2009 is a transition point for him going from one ten-year life cycle to the next. We all tend to be a little more fragile during our transition points. Heath Ledger also died of sudden death as he was moving from one ten-year life cycle to the next. While not all of us will suffer from sudden death or serious illness at our transition points, it is worthwhile to note these transition points so we can take extra care of ourselves during these sensitive times.

Even after a person dies, his BaZi chart lives on. Michael Jackson was plagued with legal problems throughout his life. His BaZi chart indicates more legal problems in the next ten years. Therefore, we can expect a long legal process as far as the resolution of his estate is concerned.

Next let’s take a quick look at the Feng Shui of Neverland Ranch. From Google Maps, we can see that Neverland Ranch is located at a point which two rivers merge into one, creating a Y-shape. In Feng Shui, a Y-shaped river is called “Open Feet Water.” It is not desirable to live in areas with a Y-shaped river or road. In less severe cases, it creates relationship or marital problems. In more serious cases, it means sex scandals. Another undesirable Feng Shui feature we can see from Google Maps is the straight long stair cases running down the Neverland Train Station. Straight long stair cases are called “Pulling Nose Water,” which drains the wealth of the residents of the property.

Our face also governs our destiny. By altering our faces, we are altering our destinies. Generally speaking, we prefer a fleshy face. There should not be any sunken parts except for the philtrum (the groove between the nose and the upper lip.) Michael Jackson had a series of plastic surgeries. Photos of the young Michael Jackson shows he had a chubby face and a big nose with a fleshy tip. In face reading, that is considered a good face. The nose, in particular, is the wealth palace. Notice that Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and other wealthy individuals all have a fleshy nose. By making his nose smaller and pointier, Michael Jackson sabotaged his own wealth luck. As the flesh of his face thinned out, so did his happiness. His philtrum also appeared to have been flattened. The philtrum represents age 50. A flat philtrum denotes challenges and troubles at age 50. Even if Michael Jackson had made it through this year and moved on into his fifties, he would have had a very challenging time ahead because he made his lips thinner and he put a cleft in this chin. How our lips and chin look tells us how well our lives are going to be in our fifties. The lesson to learn here is that if you are going to perform plastic surgery, make your face better. Generally speaking, it is desirable to make your face fleshier, not skinnier.

Contrary to rumors and speculation, I do not believe that Michael Jackson bleached his skin. Based on his BaZi, he was supposed to have some kind of skin problem. Therefore, I believe that his pale look and heavy makeup was really the result of his skin illness rather than an effort to “look white.”

Michael Jackson was born with a decent BaZi, with a wealth of talent and creativity. It was sad to see that he did not live up to the full potential of his BaZi. If he had pursued some spiritual studies, avoided the bad Feng Shui house and not altered his face, his fans would likely have benefited greatly by enjoying more of his music which I am sure would have brought him a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Welcomes to part 4 of Ba Zhai Feng Shui tutorial, this session discuss Ba Zhai with an example. The two most common misconceptions about Ba Zhai Feng Shui will also be address.

Below is a diagram elaborating an example of Ba Zhai Feng Shui in practice, with the following configurations;

This is a Kun house facing NE and sitting SW.

The owner of the house is a lady name Judy born in the year of dog with a Ming Kua of 6.

Observations

The master bed room was located in the West and South West sectors of the house. Judging by the orientation of the master bedroom, I believe that the architect intended to have the bed install in the West sector with the headboard facing North and footboard facing south.

Base on Ba Zhai Feng Shui;
The bed is located in the Tian Yi (Divine Cures) sector.

Base on Xuan Kong Feng Shui on the location of the bed;
There are 2 timely stars 8 and 9, which support each other in the current period of 8. The timely and auspicious star no. 8 is the both the water and period star. There is one combination, 6 and 9, which is a minor setback for this setting.

This setup will enhance the health and wealth for the bedroom master. However, due to the combination of 6 and 9, it is not good Feng Shui to share the room between two male. If the room is occupied by a couple, then the 6 and 9 combinations should not be a big issue. The West sector is generally considered as a good spot for the master's bed.

Before we proceed further, there are some misconceptions on Ba Zhai Feng Shui that need to be address first. Refer to the below diagram.

Every property has 4 auspicious and 4 inauspicious locations base on the facing and seating directions of the property. Every individual also have 4 auspicious and 4 inauspicious directions based on their Ming Kua. The locations of the property and directions of an individual is two different issues not to be confuse. The orientations may or may not be the same, in the above example, it is different. You should sleep in the auspicious directions base on your personal Ming Kua. The second common misconception is that when we talk about the facing of the bed to an auspicious direction base on Ba Zhai. It is measure base on the headboard of the bed or where the head is facing. Refer to the below diagram. In the below example, the headboard is facing Liu Sha and not facing Jue Ming.

Okay now back to the Ba Zhai configurations of the house. We can see that Judy was sleeping in a good location but she is facing an inauspicious direction. (Sleeping with the head facing Liu Sha) We just tweak the bed a bit to face a new direction. (Note that there is always more then one auspicious direction and cures for any Feng Shui remedy) Refer to the diagram below.

Now, Judy is sleeping facing an auspicious direction. (Sleep with the head facing Sheng Qi) However, she is sleeping with her foot directly facing the door. This setting is the popular Feng Shui taboo, often name as the 'coffin' position. This is one of the worst settings in Feng Shui bed terminology. I personally don't think it is just a taboo as it actually make sense, cause I never feel comfortable with my foot exposed facing everything, not to mention the feeling of an up skirt. An alternate solution is to include a partition between the bedroom's door and the footboard of the bed. You can also sacrifice your master bedroom and switch into other room. I hope that I have delivered a message on how to DIY your property base on traditional Feng Shui. There are many alternate solutions which I have not mentioned. The bottom line is to be creative and comfortable with your arrangement and design. The next session will discuss the technique to harmonize the earlier trigram and later trigram in Ba Kua for Ba Zhai Feng Shui.

Understanding The History Of Feng Shui

Feng shui has been around for centuries. Those who believe in its power are usually more in balance with their surrounding and exhibit a positive energy. However, this chinese philosophy is not something that can be understood overnight.

This is a complicated and confusing philosophy. However, if one is truly devoted to its knowledge and historical meaning, then a person can truly achieve harmony within and with their surroundings.

This Chinese philosophy began in ancient China around the third century B.C. with the West Han dynasty. According to feng shui design, a belief exists that the earth is a being with life that has an energy surrounding it.

That energy in Chinese is called "chi". Chi is determined by the placement of an object and the actual physical surroundings placed around that object. The site around an object, usually a building, is believed to have either positive or negative energy.

In ancient China feng shui design was practiced by rich and poor alike. According to the website Indobase who gives a wonderful detailed explanation of the history of this chinese philosophy, "In ancient China a city was planned in concentric rectangles surrounded by walls surrounded by lakes, hills, valley, gardens, courtyards and parks."

The Chinese tried to ensure that both the manmade and the natural environment were planned to promote and enhance positive energy. Then they were landscaped using the Yin and Yang ideas.

Good feng shui was ensured by the ancients when they constructed the buildings to enhance harmonious relationships between members of a family and between the family and country.

According to feng shui design, "the left of the building represented Yang or male force and was connected to the forces of heaven and the right of the building represented Yin or the female force and was connected with the energies of the earth." The Yang forces were represented in sun lit roofs and elevation in the front.

Yin forces were represented in structures that had shadowed eaves and elevations in the back. If a structure was not balanced and leaned more toward either Yin or Yang forces then this would be considered improper and unbalanced.

Ancient emperors built their palaces based on this feng shui guide and this was thought to be very favorable to power.

Feng shui needs to be fully researched in order to be understood. The ancient Chinese were looking for a way to promote a more harmonious environment when they began to use this chinese philosophy. In today's society, lives are becoming more and more hectic.

If a person can find tranquility and peace by using feng shui, then more should try this unique and life altering philosophy.

The question of whether or not the orientation of the Lo Pan, Lo Shu should be reversed when applied to the Southern Hemisphere has been thrown back an forth for years so lets consider the excellent arguments put forward in Qi Concepts at the http://www.dragonsbreath.co.uk/

Feng Shui originated in China between 3000 and 5000 years ago. China is a vast country however its placement is entirely in the Northern hemisphere no part is closer than 18 degrees North of the equator. There is neither authentic historical data, nor are there any records regarding the application of Feng Shui theory in the Southern Hemisphere. Evidence simply does not exist, so unfortunately we have to debate the question, postulate our theories and make our own decision on what we feel comfortable with. Certainly if you live close to the equator, you need to be aware of the difference between the geographical equator and the magnetic equator, as I have already pointed out in the previous section. The difference can be quite considerable as much as 12? of latitude that's 720 nautical miles or 828 statute if you like.

The Favorable and Unfavorable Directions

Welcome to part 3 of Ba Zhai Feng Shui tutorials. It was mention in the previous article that Ba Zhai is use to determine the compatibility between you and the property, and also your personal directions. This is assuming that you already read the previous articles and also has your Ming Kua ready.

Whose Ming Kua should be use?

The property or directions is selected base on the Ming Kua of the bread winner. If there is more then one bread winner, (e.g. a husband and wife together sharing the same bed) a technique will be discussed in part 4 to blend in base on both early and later Ba Kua trigrams.

Below are the presented tables on Ba Zhai's directions and locations;

From the tables above, there are 4 auspicious and 4 inauspicious directions. (My mandarin is poorer then my poor English but) I will try my best to literally translate them and briefly describe on each one of them. By understanding each of their meanings and what they associate with will help you to allocate each permanent occupant of a property to the most appropriate locations in the property.

The Good Ones

Sheng Qi - Wealth
'Sheng’ means live and ‘Qi’ is force, so Sheng Qi means Lively Forces. In Ba Zhai, it means that this is an area or directions that optimize wealth, academic and career opportunities. It will be best if the location of the main door coincide with Sheng Qi. This means to welcome the lively force into your premise. I have come across some controversies regarding the directions of the door. I believe the door should be open to the inside of the property to welcome the Sheng Qi. However if the Sheng Qi is located in the toilet, extra precautious must be taken. For those that have the freedom in choosing, don’t pick this property. The settings will probably does you more harm then good. For some of us who do not have a better choice. Keep the toilet free from any leakage and if possible seal all outlets when not in use, do not let your 'Sheng Qi' drain away.

Tien Yi - Health
'Tien’ means celestial or heaven and ‘Yi’ means cure, so Tien Yi is translate as the 'Divine Cure.' This location/direction can be used to cure illness and is most suitable for bedrooms especially for the sick. It can also be a location suitable for dining or meditations.

Yen Nien - Longevity
“Yen” means continuing and “Nien” means years, so Yen Nien is translate as prolonged years or longevity. It can also mean endurances, harmony and perseverance. In common Ba Zhai Feng Shui literature, it is usually concerning longevity and it is most suitable for the elderly members. This will also be an ideal spot for family gathering activities like monopoly or birthday celebrations.

Fu Wei – Clear Mind
Fu Wei doesn’t have any literal translations (i can't make it up) but ‘Wei’ means locations. Fu Wei is for general well being and the clear states of mind. The location is suitable for bedrooms and most suitable for prayer altar and study rooms. Fu Wei can also be a good location for spiritual relaxation activities like meditations or any decision making process.

The Nasty Ones

Jue Ming – Death
‘Jue’ means dead end and ‘Ming’ means life. The best translation would be; Ending of life. There is nothing much to describe. It is just very bad. Avoid activity in this location. It is best if the location of Jue Ming is coinciding with the storeroom. Let it trapped inside the confine space. Just a tip, remove any sharp or triangular objects and leave the area quiet and neat as much as possible. This location is the best spot to accumulate negative or unbalance energies.

Huo Hai – Disasters
I really don’t know how to literally translate Huo and Hai but Huo Hai as a whole means ‘The causes of all problems’. If Huo Hai is located in the living room or a shared bedroom, bickering and quarrel between families members will arise. It may not sound as severe as death but it will cause endless problems like law suit and scandals. It can drive a person mad. Avoid having paparazzi magazines or too much electronics items in this location. Huo Hai is best if located in toilets, don’t bother to seal up the outlets. We want them to be constantly being drain away.

Wu Gui – Five Imps
Wu Gui is directly translated as Five and Ghost, it has nothing to do with ghosts. In Chinese culture, the five ghosts may be referring to thief, robber, pirates, backstabber and general enemies. Family’s members will betray each other, prone to be a victim of robberies and theft. They will face many obstacles caused by nasty people in their careers and will have more enemies then friends. Well, not a good location to keep valuable items.

Liu Sha – Six Killing
Liu Sha is directly translated as Six and Kill, This location deteriorate every thing on the good things. It will take away your health, fortune, mental, fertility, lifespan and relationships slowly.

Some thoughts
There are 4 good and 4 bad directions and locations in every property and you can’t tweak the bad locations into a positive location no matter how hard you try to. It is also difficult to maximize all the positive effects of the 4 good locations in practical. (Unless you pay a huge sum to customize everything) The general idea and more practical approach for most of us is to keep all the bad locations quiet and cluster free and (at least) sleeps with your headboard facing the good directions. (You can consult Xuan Kong for locations problems) I know some Feng Shui enthusiast rank the directions or locations but I think that there is no such thing as the best directions because it depends on the benefits that you are seeking. If it is health that you are seeking, then I believe by positioning your bed to the configurations of Tien Yi is best.

Feng Shui Bed Arrangement

Your bedroom is your ultimate inner sanctum where you are at your most vulnerable while you sleep and recharge your chi. From a yin yang fengshui perspective, your bedroom should be more yin, quiet and peaceful. You need to feel protected and do not want distracting and powerful chi to disturb your rest. At the same time, there is a need to have a good circulation of chi to recharge you.

Your bed is the most important part of a bedroom. You spend one third of your time sleeping on a bed therefore you must have a proper planning of feng shui bed arrangement. Bad positioning of your bed will result in restless sleep and its ensuing health problems.

Below are some of feng shui bed arrangement taboos you should read closely to ensure you have a peaceful sleep that will make you vibrant and dynamic when you wake up in the next morning.

Ideally, you will have a good feng shui bed arrangement by positioning your bed as far away as possible from your bedroom door and yet able to see the bedroom door from your bed. There are two reasons for doing so; the first reason being the farther your bed from the door, the more control you can feel over your space and your life. It is because you are not startled easily by the opening of your bedroom door and you have plenty of time to prepare for events as they unfold.

The second reason for this feng shui bed arrangement is because not being able to see who's approaching from your bedroom door can keep you uncertain and on the edge. This create imbalance and frustration.

Sleeping right is one of the easiest ways to ensure good health. The secret of good feng shui bed arrangement is to sleep facing one of the four auspicious directions;Sheng Chi for prosperity,Nien Yien for relationship and Fu Wei for harmony but the best direction to tap for sleeping is the health or 'Tien Yi' direction. Tapping into your health direction is a safeguard against illness.

The most important thing to remember when sleeping in your desired direction is that the top of your head must face the direction. Many people get confused and point their feet in their desired direction which would have their head facing their worst direction.

Ba Zhai Feng Shui is considered as an elementary Feng Shui by some practitioners. However, in my views it is not. Although, its methodology is less technical as compare to Xuan Kong. It (Ba Zhai) still requires a lot of brain storming. Many people are confused with the applications of Ba Zhai with other schools of Feng Shui. Ba Zhai is concerning directions and not locations. The direction as describe in Ba Zhai is usually referring to the direction of the bed, as we spent at least 1/3 of the time on the bed. The favorable locations for a bedroom are determined by Xuan Kong. Once you have determined the good location for the bedroom, you can further tune in to your favorable direction base on Ba Zhai Feng Shui.

Another point to take note is that, Ba Zhai Feng Shui is to assist you in finding out the compatibility between you and the property and is not a sole method to determine the Feng Shui of the property. It is an issue not to be confused, as a property with good Feng Shui might not necessary is suitable for you. A property is usually selected base on forms school Feng Shui or Water Theory. (San he Feng Shui) After you determined the properties with good Feng Shui, you can shortlisted them by matching it to your personal Ming Kua.

General guidelines and summaries

Select a property based on San He or Form School Feng Shui. Determined whether the property is suitable for you base on Ba Zhai and then work out the floor plan base on Xuan Kong. Applying the practical of Ba Zhai again, position your bed facing a direction that is favorable for you. On top of that, apply Ba Zhai with all the standard Feng Shui taboos, advices and tips available online.

(E.g. based on Ba Zhai, you had determined that to sleep heading west is good for you. However, due to physical constraints, you will be sleeping directly under an air conditioner which is not good for your health. Since everyone is tag with 4 good directions depending on their Ming Kua. So let’s just work out again the other possible directions)

There are many different versions of Feng Shui, each influenced by culture, geography, and religion. There are 7 predominant types or schools of Feng Shui:

1. The Compass School uses the 8 trigrams of the I-Ching. They are known collectively as Pa Kua, which is based on the 8 main directions of a compass. Each direction is associated with a specific chi. For example, southern is vibrant energy.

2. The Form School, based on the landscape's shape, uses 4 symbolic animals to identify the landscape. Easy to use, the Form School (along with the Compass School) increases chi both in and out of the home.

3. The Black Hat Sect uses a fixed entry point to determine the area. Although similar to the Compass School philosophy, it has differences. The Black Hat Sect also consists of psychology, Buddhism and basic design principles.

4. 8 Mansion School, also known as the 8 House Feng Shui, is based on the individual number of the person living in the home. That number is used to bring harmony and balance to the home. People who use this system have both lucky and unlucky numbers, with the west numbers being 2, 6, 7, and 8 and the east numbers being 1, 3, 4, and 9.

5. The 9 Star Key School uses stars to help identify lucky and unlucky days. This school of thought uses complicated math formulas to pinpoint when a person will get married and the astrological sign of the future marriage partners. It will also tell the practitioner how to live based on his house.

6. The most common form of Feng Shui, based on astrology and numerology, is the Flying Star Philosophy. Difficult to understand and learn, it is also based on mathematical principals and is used to determine a person's fate.

7. Four Pillars, the final school of thought, is not very common. Based on astrology tied to the person's date of birth right down to the minutes, this form of Feng Shui is also used to determine a person's fate.

5 Elements Of Feng Shui
After determining which school of thought is best for an individual, it is important to understand the 5 elements of Feng Shui. They are: Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, and Wood. Balance and harmony can be created in a home through the use of these elements. If used incorrectly, however, the energy can be lessened or even destroyed.

Each of the 5 elements is also associated with a direction:

Those who are familiar with Western cultures know how many things are treated as taboo. Superstitious people will go to any length to avoid certain things that their culture considers as harbingers of bad luck. It is the same all over the world. Go to any part of the world and you will find, irrespective of caste & creed, there are certain things that are considered unlucky and certain things that are considered as lucky. It is the same with the Chinese too, but the difference between the Chinese and Western culture, especially with regards to their culture and the superstitions based thereon, are revealed starkly when it comes to number 13.

You will be amazed, if you are a European, to know that the Chinese consider the number 13 as lucky. It is widely known that Europeans treat Fridays and the number 13 as accursed, and if these two happen to come together like `Friday the 13th' it is treated as a very bad omen. On this particular day, people tend not to start any new work or not to embark on any journey. It is just the opposite with the Chinese people and this is due to the difference of culture. It is not that the Chinese do not have preferences for certain numerals. They love the numerical 8 and it is rumored that a phone number 8888-8888 fetched $300,000. This occurred in Chengdu, a Chinese city.

Do you recall the date of opening of the Beijing Olympics? It was on the 8th of August 2008 (08-08-08). If you thing that this was just a fluke and has nothing to do with the Chinese culture and its affection for certain numbers, you should check out the inauguration time of the Beijing Olympics. It was inaugurated at 8:08pm. This obsession for numbers is not prevalent in China only and one can also observe it in Singapore and Hong Kong and both these countries have a majority of Chinese people. Those who know about Chinese culture will tell you that these numbers are linked according to their pronunciation. They observe how a number sounds and then try to associate it with words that have a similar pronunciation.

The number 8 is pronounced as `"fa", which is how words like fortune and prosperity sound in the Chinese language. But what about number 13 which is considered unlucky by Europeans and why do the Chinese consider it as lucky? The number "1" when put in the "tens" sounds like "shi" which means definite in Mandarin. The digit "3" sounds like living, life or birth. Hence the number "13", the pronunciation of which is "shisan" in Mandarin, might mean, according to Chinese culture and traditions as "assured growth" or "definitely vibrant". This is the reason why Chinese people consider the number 13 as lucky. There are some other numbers too which are considered lucky by the Chinese because of they way they are pronounced in the Mandarin language，such as six,sixty,ninety-nine,nine,eighteen.

In Asia countries, many ghostly sightings have been reported regarding hotel rooms. The people in Asia are very particular about choosing a hotel room. Genting Highland Pahang in Malaysia, an entertainment resort is regard as one of the most haunted place in Asia. Several people have committed suicide here either by hanging in their room or jumping down from the window of their room. Some rooms are not for rent no matter how much you willing to pay for. Another phenomenon is that a lot of hotels does not have the 13th floor, they will replace with it with the 14th floor. The 13th floor is considered to be the portal to the underworld. Spiritual entities could gain access into our world thru the 13th floor. I will avoid both floors because I knew that the 14th floor is actually the 13th floor in disguise. These phenomenons are not just across Asia but also in hotels in Las Vegas. According to my friends in Singapore, Singapore Polytechnics, a tertiary campus had their block 13 removed as it was rumor that many strange occurrences had happened in this block in the past. Below is some guidelines and taboos I have compile, it serve to educate the unwary.

Taboo 1
Avoid the room on the extreme corner or room near an exit. This is because unwanted entities like to lurk in these areas

Taboo 2
Avoid room with number 13 with it or the compounding number that added up to number 4. Eg room 1012 as 1+0+1+2=’4’

Taboo 3
Always knock on the door before entry to the room. This serve as a friendly gesture to the ‘occupant’ in the room in inform that you are taking the room.

Taboo 4
When entry into the room, flush the toilet immediately. This is to flush always all the bad things.

Taboo 5
If you feel a sudden of cold draft of air when entry to the room, immediately change for a new room.

Taboo 6
Avoid a tall tree blocking when views from the windows. This will cause eerie hallucinations in the night. In Asia culture, the older a tree is, the spirit residing inside will be more powerful.

Taboo 7
Look for some signs, it could be a charm, talismans, bible or any religious symbolic items. Do not pick up any of these items for souvenirs. It is best to change the room immediately.

Taboo 8
Cover the mirrors in the bedroom, this is to avoid ‘something’ staring at you from the other side. Some room decors have their mirror place in from of your bed. Imagine the first thing you see when wake up is a distressed view of yourself. It would probably freak your own self out.

Taboo 9
Place your shoes in facing in opposite directions.

Taboo 10
Pad on your pillows three times each and flip over for a good night sleep.

Taboo 11
Don’t leave any beds unattended if you are sleeping alone with two beds in the room by placing items all around to claim ownership.

Taboo 12
Leave the bathroom light on all the time and don’t close the door when not in use. Spiritual entities like damp and dark places. I also leave the TV console on as well as it create a livelier environment.

Banana Tree Spirit

A lot of stories had been written about the Banana Tree Spirit. I am sharing my personnal encounters. The spirit of banana tree is well known in countries of South East Asia such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan and especially among the Chinese communities. The myth originated from old villages during our grandfather generations from the 1930s. What is the banana tree spirit? Banana tree spirit is believed to be supernatural beings that possess magical attributes. The banana tree spirit is different from the common Chinese folklore spirit where the soul leave the body of a decessed and remains to roam the land. Banana tree spirits are special beings that can reside in any creation of nature, particularly in deep forest. It is not transform from a soul of a dead person. It is a natural spirit with higher level of inteligence. The spirit of banana tree is usually more sinister and evil compare to a common spirit.

It was told to me by a Bomoh (A Malay priest) that beside banana trees, there is spirits in rocks, water and soil. The banana tree spirit is believed to take form as a young attractive female girl. The bomoh does not quite agree with this but he couldn’t conclude any answer either. These spirits are usually not harmful but certain taboos we must follow when hiking the jungle to avoid agitate these spirits.

When I was a kid in the 60s, I used to live in a Kampong (Malay term for village) in Kluang JB. There were dozens of banana trees near the loo. In those days, we do not have the convenient of toilet facilities, the toilet is shared among neighbors in the same kampong. We have to travelled pass a distance from our home to the loo to carry out our business. The proximity of street lamps was about 50m apart. The path will be in almost darkness as early as 7 pm in the evening. When we do our business, especially the big one, we have to endure the 15mins in that confining wooden hut. The leaf of the banana tree will keep flapping on the openings on the top of the toilet with its shadows flickering in the half lit environment as if it has a life of its own. We had become used to it. I have heard legends about communicating with the spirit inside banana trees.

The next unbelievable thing that came across my mind is that I would try it. I was still afraid though so I find a friend in the same kampong to accompanied me; his name was Ah Leng in short. We seek a bomoh from other village for directions as we knew that the bomoh here would have discouraged us from communicating with the unknown. We get red threads and tie a needle to it at one end. We coiled the thread on the flower bud of the banana tree and piece the needle into the bud. The other end we would tie it to our toe. The bomoh described that, a young women would appear in our dreams and seek out the owner of the thread; she would ask to remove the thread as it is causing her pain. In return she could grant us our wishes. We do not have any specified goals in mind but just to seek out the thrills due to curiosity. Ah Leng and me each tie to different banana tree as we believe the chances of succeed would be higher. Soon we map out the ground and fell asleep. I woke up in the middle of the night. Ah Leng soon woke up when I called out to him. Neither one of us had experienced anything unusual It was getting very chill and uneasy for me. We thought that it was rather foolish to experiment with this kind of thing so we call it quit. Ah Leng accidently pin himself with the needle when trying to release it from the tree. He makes use of the leaf on the tree to wipe his wound for the substitute of tissue paper. We leave the place and returned home.

One week had passed, I thought it was a fail experiment in which I would never consider trying again. I was suddenly shocked to learn that Ah Leng had passed away yesterday. It was caused by a heart failure diagnosed by the doctor. Though it was a scientific conclusion, I was feeling very uncomfortable.

I was petrified and seek help from the bomoh here. It was upon my arrival, the bomoh started to ask me questions as if he knew why I came here for and insisted that I speak the truth in details. The bomoh soon provided me with the answer that I have been expecting. The death of Ah Leng is caused by something else. He told me that we did not successfully engage in communicating with the spirit. However, Ah Leng’s death was caused by a spirit residing in the forest. The bomoh woudn’t tells me what it is but only described to me that Ah Leng had offended the spirit when he wipe his blood open wound onto the tree. He told me that I was not in danger but he offer to recite some chant to shield me.

I have lived till today but I couldn’t come out with solid conclusions for the death of Ah Leng 30 years ago. I believe it is the banana tree spirit. There is some taboo that I would like to offer for jungle tracking. I have being following these taboos closely because I would rather show my respect to the nature and not offend them. Who know what the consequences might be?

Taboo 1

Do not litter especially expandable items that you have used before. Show some respects.

Taboo 2

Do not pick up anything either. If you pick out anything from the forest, bring it to a Feng Shui shop or Monastery. There will cleanse the memories of your new founding.

Taboo 3

Never answer to a call from behind your back by turning your head. Turn your whole body around to answer in full swing if you have to.

Taboo 4

Always carries a stick with you. This serve two purposes, first is to protect you against stray dogs. Secondly, there is a cultural myth on tall dark trees, when you see shadows moving that is very tall resembling trees. Break the sticks and shorten it gradually as you journey.

Taboo 5

When lost in the forest even you are sure of the way, use your undies to cover your head leaving the holes to see. Your vision then will be “uncovered”.

Taboo 6

Never shine your torch light directly onto trees.

Taboo 7

Don’t use real names when calling to each others in the forest. Use a simple code like “Oei, Halo” Your partners should response the same way. If he response in “Hey” when you shout “Oei”, head towards the direction where the source of sound came from immediately.

Taboo 8

Never pee onto trees or ground, ask for permission like as if asking permission from a living person before doing so.

Taboo 9

Do not rests under a tree because it looks a great shade or especially stands out among the rest; ask to excuse you to the tree if you have to.

Ba Zhai Feng Shui is also known as Eight House Feng Shui or Eight Mansion Feng Shui. Do not confuse Ba Zhai with Bazi; Bazi is another branch of Chinese philosophy while Ba Zhai Feng Shui is a form of traditional Feng Shui literature. The main difference between Ba Zhai and Xuan Kong flying star or Xuan Kong Da Kua is that Ba Zhai does not consider time dimension. It is a Feng Shui technique to select a beneficial direction or to avoid a catastrophic direction for each occupant in a property, base on their personal Ming Kua number. Enough say, this is a DIY blog. First you would need to determine your Ming Kua. You can skip to the Ming Kua calculator if you do not wish to know how to determine your Ming Kua manually. Here is how you can apply them.

For Female, the Ming Kua will be replaced by 8.

The Ming Kua number is calculated based on the Chinese Solar Calendar. The Chinese start the New Year on the 4th or 5th day of February. I have embedded a Solar Calendar gadget on the site bar. Generally, the beds that have built-in storage drawers underneath to help you with storage solutions are considered bad Feng Shui beds because the energy needs to circulate around your body when you sleep, which is not possible if the space underneath the bed is blocked.

An appropriate bed should have legs, ideally on each corner, elevating it above the floor. (Okay, I like beds with legs because it makes my area cleaning a lot easier.)

Size of the bed

A Queen bed is highly recommended over a King or California King Size bed for two reasons. A King size bed leaves no room for upgrading. Since you have already reached the maximum level, the only way to move is downward, so your next bed might be to move to a single bed. Additionally, a King size mattress typically rests on two box springs, which can suggest a separation between partners who sleep in the bed together.

Footboard of Bed

Footboards are not necessary. Men typically do not like footboards; some say it feels like being in a coffin. If you do wish to have a footboard, it should be no higher than the mattress. A taller footboard can limit your travel opportunities.

Styles of Bed

Murphy beds, futons and day beds provide a temporary feeling, and therefore recommended only for use in guest rooms or hotel.

Price of Bed

The price of the bed is not always a reflection of good Feng Shui. One of my clients recently purchased a $20,000 bed, only to discover it provided very poor Feng Shui and could be a contributing factor in a troubled relationship.

So now, we know what to look for in a bed, there are trendy beds that are fashionable or desirable but their harmful effects are significant. These beds are good for the motel or hotel where customers are looking for fun. They are not good for home and bed Feng Shui.

Avoid Canopy bed

It cause insomnia, depression and illness.

Avoid Waterbed

It resemble poor personal relationship and lack of support.

Avoid Mirrored bed

It means lack of inspiration.

Avoid Bed craved with animal sculptures

It will create side effects such as mind fatigue and infertility.

Avoid Heart-shaped bed

This kind of bed despite popular believe to be a romantic bed but it will cause depression.

Avoid Round bed

Well, the Chinese love to have their meals together in round table as it symbolize unity but as concerning to bed, it will cause personal relationship problems.

Avoid Mechanical bed

These means to those kind of bed that will that rotates, rocks and rolls. It causes disagreement and hostility.

‘Ignoring Feng Shui’s bed advice, people who sleep in these kinds of beds will face their decline in health, wealth and love.’ (Wow, the message sounds a bit too harsh for us and the bed merchants.)

Sleeping on a bed you does not love?

This may sound like a strange statement, especially in relation to what most people think of as an "inanimate" object - one's bed. The truth is, if you don't like your bed...if you aren't comfortable with the way the mattress feels, or the design of your bed isn't appealing to you, then you aren't going to derive the greatest benefits from your bed.

Ask yourself these simple questions:

Is my bed inviting?

Do I feel rested after a night spent in my bed?

Do I appreciate the energy that my bed provides me?

Is my health suffering because of lack of sleep?

Bottom line is that you need to love your bed for best Feng Shui results! If you do not receive the rest and rejuvenation, you need to receive from your bed...if your bed is old and "tired" of supporting you, consider purchasing a new one! Remember, we spent 40% of our lives on the bed! Avoid sleeping on a bed that has "energetic" accumulations from the past or other people. This may also sound a bit strange at first, but give me a chance to explain. Let us suppose for a moment that you have had your bed for a while...say for 5 - 7 years. Let us say that during that time, you had an intimate relationship with a lover that did not work out. If you made love, with this person in your bed and now you are suffering from the hurt and pain of that broken relationship, your bed is partly responsible for reminding you of that pain. It could even be the reason why you have not been able to move forward in your love life. What you may not realize is this - the bed is "holding" the energy of this broken relationship...and it is having an effect on you, whether you are aware of it or not! The same principle applies to use beds because of the energies of previous owners that still linger within them. It is a big Feng Shui mistake to purchase a bed that previously owned by somebody and even though if you know the person. Give yourself a fresh start!

And Finally Some Basic Taboos on Bed

Yah first is of course the bed itself. We spend at least 40% of the time in the bed. (Some people even spend 100% of the time in bed.) Here the list;

The mattress is to be replace after every 3 to 5 years regardless of its condition. I do not think this is any super scientific Feng Shui. The fact is every manufacturer manufactures their mattress with a life span of 3 years.

Similarly, all pillows and blankets must also replace after 3 to 5 years of use.

The bed must locate where there is good circulation of air and where sunlight shines in during the day. I suppose the sunlight is helping us to kill the germs and bacterial.

Avoid placing the bed on the western part where it will catch the rays of the setting sun.

Do not store any carton box, newspaper, plastic bags or suitcase under the bed. Simply just, do not place anything under the bed. It is untidy for your mommy to do the cleaning.

Similarity, do not tuck any bills, photos or document under the mattress.

Do not fix any overhead light immediately over the bed. Move the bed to the side or fix them on the wall instead.

All permanent occupant of a household must have a permanent bed at a fixed location. Sleeping on foldable bed or mattress on the floor is not encouraged. Well, of course everyone loves to have his or her own bed.

Do not cover the bed with a blanket immediately after rising. Leave it uncovered for at least 30 minutes each time before making the bed.

Feng Shui Trader's reaction to Penn and Teller's Feng Shui Bullshit !!!

Feng Shui Trader decided to blog about an American reality TV show, that in one episode addressing on the topic of Feng Shui. Penn and Teller host this show in 2003, they called it the ‘Penn and Teller: Bullshit!’ The show aimed to debunk pseudoscientific ideas, supernatural beliefs, woo-woo, popular fads and misconceptions, and often from a libertarian point of view. Like most of ‘Bullshit’ episodes, Feng Shui is a total bullshit. I have loved the show so much and embedded them below from YouTube on trader’s blog. There were three parts in it; I have only embedded two parts as the last part is just describing the consumptions of water by the humans.

Eight House Theory Feng Shui featured in the Video (Ba Zhai Feng Shui) or Maybe Ming Kua 9 Qi Feng Shui
During the earlier part of the video, Kartar mentioned to her client that she (client) belong to the ‘West’ type people and advised her to sleep head west while Milan advised the same client to sleep head south. P&T made no second attempt to understand the basics principle of Feng Shui and took the advantage to comment on the inconsistencies of Feng Shui.

In the theory and practices of Ba Zhai Feng Shui, the grouping (East or West) or the ‘Kua’ number of a person is determined by his or hers date of birth. There are four auspicious and four inauspicious directions for each type of people. There are no such things as the most auspicious directions, as most of the time, there are many physical constraints created from the premise itself. It will be beneficial to the client as long as she is sleeping heading to any one of the four auspicious directions. There is one common consideration, where the grouping of the husband and wife is different. Then, they will need to integrate both the directions of the early and later trigrams to select their appropriate heading direction. Simply, there is more then one auspicious direction for an individual.

P&T commented that the three Feng Shui consultants, each have different opinions about the positions and color of the couches. The simple answer to the inconsistencies is that each of the consultants had a different opinion of the facing directions of the house, which is the most critical factor in eradicating the Feng Shui’s floor plan. There is another consideration, which may affect the calculations process. All three consultants might have come to same facing directions; however, the actual reading in degree of the facing direction lies in the middle of two sectors on the compass and the two sectors differs in polarity. An alternate solution to the problem is to apply substitution stars. Usually, both the original floor plan and the modified floor plan are draft out simultaneously. The Feng Shui people will relates both floor plans with the client to determine the more ‘accurate’ floor plan. The video could be edited, cut or the client providing different information to different consultant. Milan and David might have received the same piece of information from the client while what Kartar heard was of different story.

Omg lolz Mistakes
One of the commandments of Feng Shui is never overdoing it. Every adjustment made to the arrangement of the house must remain within the comfort zone of the family. In the video, David had reallocated the positions and orientations of the couches, which leave a narrow walkway for the client and her family. Well, we cannot blame P&T the duo scrooges who are fame for finding faults. Maybe David should be more cautious and aware of whom he is dealing with next time.

So if Feng Shui is really a Science?
In the show, P&T (Penn and Teller) efforts seem to direct onto distinguishing the differences between Science and Art. Feng Shui Trader says; Feng Shui is an Art but it cannot be completely detached away from Science. The methodology of Feng Shui’s is a huge compilation of actual occurrences observed by the ancient Chinese sage. They will predict the likely outcome base on experiences and occurrences. Every scientific or mathematical theory in the world is also derived in a much similar fashion. I could still remember the dreadful statistics lessons during my collage days.

I will tag Feng Shui along with science thru an analogy (mimicking what Mr. David Cho had done in the video), Now we all knew a very important concept of Feng Shui, which is the intangible Yin and Yang. Suppose, I told you that there were two people in a room which one person being a male. I asked you to predict the gender of the other person and my hint was, that person was of a different gender. I suppose you can predict the gender of the other fellow without much difficulty after you have worked out the solution, base on super scientific theories and mathematical calculations. Well, in a similar fashion, Feng Shui Masters are also doing that. They predicted that in this world that we live in, it is either Yin or Yang so their answers will most likely be a female. (Although people like Chris Crocker and Bruno does exist)

Conclusions
There is possibility that the video altered and dubbed to serve the purpose of the show. It is insufficient to draw any conclusions to proof that Feng Shui is bullshit. My personally preference and views about the Feng Shui guys in the video is that I like Kartar very much and have read on her Feng Shui book, which I am going to share further insight. She would be ideal as a personnel and professional Feng Shui consultant whom you can relate with. Milan trends to oversell Feng Shui. David made some mistakes and the mistakes amplified by P&T.

The Lucky Frog of the Chinese

The Money Frog (look more like a toad) is the equivalent of the Japanese Maneki Neko Cat. This frog also known as the three legged toad or “Chan Chu” and is probably the most auspicious symbol of wealth and fortune. Catch this frog on every mid autumn festival, the people who see a toad while gazing on the moon during the festive season will receive good news of increased wealth or monetary gain. The Money Frog is used for attracting wealth and abundance and can often be seen near cash registers, receptions, managers' desk and offices in Asian countries.

Legend of the Lucky Frog

According to legend, the frog and Liu Hai became buddies. Liu Hai kept the frog as a pet and would bring the frog with him wherever he goes. Often, the frog is depicted biting a golden Chinese coin in its mouth. This is probably due to the legend, where Liu Hai had to lure the frog out from the house or water well every time with a coin. There are also 7 dots on it back, depicting the Ursa Major (Great North Pole 7 Stars, check them out in Google Earth)

In paintings or portraits, Liu Hai is often shown as him standing on the toad and playing with gold coins within his hands. His appearance in the painting is of happiness and friendliness, and a statue of him with the three legged toad is a very powerful amulet for attracting prosperity.

Here are some methods where you can also enjoy the benefits of owning Money Frogs in your premise.

The Chinese always love the number 6 and 9 (come on, please don’t think of position 69…) and they kept 6 and 9 fishes in their aquariums, now you can also place 9 Money frogs in your living space discreetly and naturally. Do not over doing it by dedicating each frog to an altar; the frog is famous for playing hide and seeks with its owner. Make sure each frog is facing to the 8 different cardinal directions of the compass. (One faces east, one face west, etc.) The last frog is place near the main door facing inward. Having 3 frogs instead of 6 or 9 is an alternate method as the frog is known to have 3 legs, by adding up the legs of the 3 frogs, we have 9 legs which is good.

Place two Money Frogs: One inside your front door facing inwards symbolizes money coming in to your home of business and the other facing outward to collect the money. The frog can be place directly on the ground.

For the Feng Shui enthusiastic, place the money frog it in the wealth sector (South East) of your living room or office to enjoy your windfall luck.

Please note that, don’t suffocate your frogs by placing them in toilets, bathrooms, kitchens, garage, storerooms or bedrooms. You love your pets, don’t you?

A haunted house is believed to be dark, old and dilapidated with unnatural forces or ‘Ghost’. In Feng Shui point of view, a haunted house is cause by accumulating of negative forces that developed through time with the absence of ‘yang’ energy. Most of time, the negatives forces developed are cause by the negligence of human.

I am sharing my personal ghostly encounter several years ago when spending a weekend in a friend’s apartment. My friend with his wife was married for a year before they acquired an apartment in Tanglin Halt. During that time, they were planning for kids and they bought a four-room apartment. They planned to rent a room to foreign students, save a room later for their kids and occupied the master bedroom themselves. Soon, the empty rooms were made into storerooms, as they could not find the appropriate tenant. They dump whatever that is unsightly into these rooms and left these rooms unattended beside area cleaning. They will leave the windows, doors and the curtains of the unoccupied rooms shut when they leave house for work. These rooms were void for a year after they moved it to the apartment.

I was the first guest to spend a weekend in these rooms. There was only one room with a bed and my friend offered me to that room. I decided not to bother about the opening the windows as I simply prefer the comfort of an air conditioner. I spend the first night without much annoyance accepts that I could hear a very mild voice coming from the other empty room that resembles a human tone. The next morning, I took a little time to speak about the anonymous voice with my friend. He was surprised, as they did not encounter anything of this sort for the past one year. I drop the subject as his wife is getting very skeptical and I excused myself that I am just hearing things due to tiredness.

The second night spends in the guestroom cause a traumatic experience for me. The same anonymous voice that I heard during the previous night became louder and as if it was just whispering beside my ears. I felt a sudden force that wanted to cover and rolled me over with the mattress. I exerted all my strength to press down the mattress with my left hand while trying very hard to sit up. The force acting against me was getting stronger and I was curled up by the mattress like a victim trapped by a python’s coil. This time I wanted to scream for my friend’s attention but was totally immobilized and I could still hear the voice beside my ear, though I could not make up the words. I was traumatized and have forgotten the sutra, which I used to recite when I was meditating. I was picturing the image of Bodhisattva Guan Yin and Guan Yu in my mind, chanting in mind the only sentence that I could remember. I feel the pressure acting upon me loosen but still the mattress trapped me. This time, I gain more concentrations and chant a complete Buddhist sutra before I was release and thrown to the floor from the bed. After I catch my equilibrium, I had decided not to alarm my friend during the night. I went into the hall, picture the image of Bodhisattva Guan Yin and Guan Yu in fiery fire aura, and quietly chant a Buddhist sutra for forty nine times before I felt asleep on the sofa. If I have not been wrong, I was trapped for about 45 minutes.

I spoke about this incident to my friend and his wife in the next morning. This time, they were convinced by my story as they have heard some sound produced when I was struggling to break free from the entrapment. My friend knew that I was a Feng Shui enthusiastic asked me if this was due to bad Feng Shui. My responds was; ‘yes’. According to my understanding in terms of Feng Shui, they have created a friendly environment that attracts ‘unwanted guest’ over the year. He further prom me if I knew how to perform an exorcism. I told him that I do not know exorcism and advise them to hire a Taoist exorcist.

However, during the day, I did visit the room again together with them and adjusted the furniture and settings. We did a lot of trashing; we threw away all the old clothing, mirrors, bags, etc. My friend even had a Japanese cutlery knife box set in the room and we threw them away as well. These triangular resembling sharp edge items were extremely negative to keep inside a room. There were many dead insects hidden in behind the cupboards, we did a lot of pest busting also. We tear down the curtains and open the windows wide allowing sunlight to entry. I had told them to leave it open for 24 hours a day allowing ‘Qi’ to circulate, the wife became skeptical as she said it would attract more dust. My friend responded to her that unless she would like to attract something else. After we tidy up the rooms, I believe that the unwanted guest will leave the place eventually. However, I suspected that what we have done to destroy a friendly environment will agitated the spirit and I gave my friend two little post card which have being empowered as a gift. The first post card has Zhong Kui’s picture with trigrams and the second post card has the Ksitigabha Bodhisattva sutra written on it in Chinese. I asked them to display them beside the bed when sleeping. Two months later, I received a call from my friend. He told me that during the night, they heard noises created from banging on the furniture from the other rooms but they did not experience anything physically. They were scared and literally read out the Ksitigabha Bodhisattva sutra from the postcard in mandarin. The ordeal lasted for two month and had ended.
