I am always amazed how much people tend to talk Folkestone down. Since arriving here in early 2003 I have heard
‘Its all Chavy’
‘Nothing ever happens here’
and my favourite ‘Folkestone is shite!’

Over the past couple of months putting together our 18 films in 15 different locations festival, I have seen some very successful events taking shape.

Yes we have the Triennial which is launched on June 23rd, but we also have a host of fringe events held by Shepway District Council and the fully independent not funded by the public purse Inferential Grin around Rendezvous Street. Go and see all of these and be spoilt for choice.

Last week I found an event that I don’t think many have heard about and that is the Phizzog Phestival of body painting. Its the first year at the Grand on Saturday July 30th and 31st.

I understand that there is a competition with contestants given up to 5 hours to paint a whole body. I had a look at the rules and I must admit I am a quite intrigued. I am not taking part before you ask.
After seeing the gallery on their website I think I will definitely be making an appearance. Its something new, fun and I should imagine a bit serious for the competitors.

So if you want to know more about the Phizzog Pheestival then visit their website. Plus keep your eyes peeled as there will be demos and painted people outside Googies and around town over the coming weekends too.

There seems to be a fair amount happening in such a small town so Folkestone is not as S#!t3 as people say.
