<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>When it comes to dieting, Obama says she no longer fixates on counting calories. “I try to keep my weight at a certain level,” <a href="http://www.ivillage.com/michelle-obama-exercise-getting-her-family-moving/4-b-481049#481630" target="_blank">she tells iVillage</a>. “And I’ve found that as I get older &#8230; I don’t like to diet. I like food. I don’t like to have to worry and count every calorie &#8230; I just don’t like to live that way.” As she wrote in a column <a href="http://www.womenshealthmag.com/health/michelle-obama-and-health-care/?cm_mmc=Huffington_Post-_-Michele%20Obamas%20Workout%20Playlist-_-Article-_-Michelle%20Obama%20on%20Fitness%20and%20Health" target="_blank">Women’s Health in 2010</a>, “Being a healthy woman isn’t about getting on a scale or measuring your waistline—and we can’t afford to think that way. Instead, we need to start focusing on what matters—on how we feel, and how we feel about ourselves.”</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>2. She Works Out at the Crack of Dawn</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>Every day <a href="http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_PEOPLE_MICHELLE_OBAMA?SITE=AP&amp;SECTION=HOME&amp;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT" target="_blank">MObama gets up at around 4:30 or 5 a.m.</a> to work out before her kids wake up and does cardio and weights. She often meets Barack at the gym. “I usually get to the gym before he does,” she says. “But he is usually there either in the middle of my workout or right at the end.”</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>4. She Watches ‘SportsCenter’  as a Distraction While She Works Out</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>“That’s why I know so much about sports, and you start having an opinion about [New York Jets quarterbacks Tim] Tebow and Mark Sanchez,” she tells iVillage.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>5. She Eats Five Meals a Day, When She’s ‘Doing What I’m Supposed to Do’</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>“I try to eat—when I’m being good—five meals, a breakfast, which can be like stir-fried vegetables, tofu, or oatmeal,” <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/06/michelle-obama-diet-gardening-american-grown_n_1574123.html" target="_blank">she said while promoting her book</a>, American Grown: The Story of The White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America. “And then I’ll have a snack, something like this [pointing to a tray of sliced apples and honey from the White House beehive] or a vegetable tray or sometimes a protein shake &#8230; then lunch. This last year I’ve tried to change it so my lunch is my biggest meal &#8230; like today, I had fish and vegetables, stir-fried vegetables. And if I’m going to have a carb, like a brown rice or a potato or something, I’ll have it at lunch.”</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>6. She Leaves It to Her Chefs</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>“I give them guidelines, because I don’t have time to think about, oh, I want to have this for lunch,” <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/06/06/michelle-obama-diet-gardening-american-grown_n_1574123.html" target="_blank">she said on her book tour</a>. “One of my favorite lunches is veggie pizza on whole-wheat bread. It’s really good, just loaded with vegetables and cheese and tomato sauce. I love that. And then, dinner is again up to the chefs. It will have a meat, a grain, vegetables, salad. If I’m trying to be lean I’ll just do a salad. And if I’m hungry I’ll add a protein on top of that.”</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>7. There’s Obviously An ‘Arm-Training Superset’ Somewhere in There</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong><a href="http://shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/first-lady-fitness-secrets-spilled-how-michelle-obama-got-those-amazing-arms-509848.html" target="_blank">According to her trainer Cornell McClellan</a>, <a href="http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/blogs/the-gaggle/2009/05/28/wanted-michelle-obama-s-arms.html">MObama’s weightlifting</a> and cardio sets include a rigorous arm segment that includes triceps pushdowns and hammer curls.</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>8. There’s Somehow Time in Her Schedule for Yoga and Pilates</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>“I have found that as I get older, I need to work on flexibility, because that’s where you help to avoid injuries,” <a href="http://www.ivillage.com/michelle-obama-exercise-getting-her-family-moving/4-b-481049" target="_blank">she tells iVillage</a>. “So I started doing some yoga. I’ve done Pilates before, but I have a hard time doing both, because I just don’t have the time in my schedule. But I always try to do something that really works on that flexibility leg of the fitness stool.”</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>9. She Pumps Iron</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>“You don’t have to be a weightlifter,” <a href="http://www.ivillage.com/michelle-obama-exercise-getting-her-family-moving/4-b-481049" target="_blank">she says</a>. “I know a lot of women get worried about muscle definition. But actually, I’ve been told by fitness experts that the average person will not bulk up on the weights that we can lift.”</em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong>10. She’s Packing Rubber Bands</strong></em></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><em><strong></strong>The first lady packs a rubber band and a <a href="http://www.ivillage.com/michelle-obama-exercise-getting-her-family-moving/4-b-481049" target="_blank">jump rope in her suitcase on the road</a>. “I might do a 30-minute routine that includes a minute of jumping jacks alternating with a minute of pushups, or however many you can do, and then some sit-ups. And you keep doing that circuit again and again, and you’ll find that you’re going to build up a lot of sweat,” she says.</em></p>

After the success of Timex Run Manila and most recently the one in Cebu, Timex Run will be a treat for Davaoeños and for tourist in Davao this coming weekend.</p>

Right now, my best and convenient gym equipment is the medicine ball. Very easy to use and you can do a full body workout in just 15 to 20 minutes of your day.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">After my 5K run this noon time, I did the following medicine ball exercise. Running may help my heart and lungs, but I need some weight training to help my muscles be toned and stronger. Just get yourself a 5 to 15 pound medicine ball from Toby&#8217;s or Chris Sports store and follow the exercise video below.</p>

Being cellulite being a major problem for most women of all ages, and most especially for women who have given birth and in their mid to late 30&#8242;s. In a category in which I belong to.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">But, the thing is: I don&#8217;t have cellulite. Nor do I have stretch marks as well.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Please don&#8217;t hate me for this, and yes; perhaps, I am bragging a bit here. Because having no cellulite is a dream for most women in the whole planet. However, when I think about it and what knowledge I have from my being a Physical Therapist; I have listed down the following reasons that may be why I don&#8217;t have cellulites:</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1. We lived on fish (tuyo, sardines and galunggong) and pinakbet (sautéed veggies) when we were starting out as a family. Any form of meat and chicken was a luxury.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">2. I developed a dislike to chicken skin, porkchop fat and the marbling in beef when we were able to afford to eat such food. When mama cooked fried chicken or pork chop &#8211; I always trimmed off the skin and the fat. A habit that I have developed until now. Except now, I am beginning to love bacon &#8211; especially the one from Pancake House.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">3. I was always moving. Call it a case of ADHD, but I have been jogging in our childhood village since I was in the 5th Grade. And Papa had a gym set at home, which I also used after my thirty-minute jogs to strengthen my arms with biceps curl and squats for my flimsy teenaged legs.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">4. We mostly ate at home when we were young. Mama&#8217;s cooking was awesome, but very basic. No fancy cream or gravy-laden meals. The only sweets she made was brownies, steamed buto ng langka and palitaw.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">5. My Apo (grandmother on mama&#8217;s side) also had great skin. I know that genetics play a role in cellulite formation. But, so far I am the only girl in the family that doesn&#8217;t have it. And I am the only one who still peel off the chicken skin and fatty parts of beef or pork whenever it was part of the meal.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.thefitmommynow.com/2012/08/12/why-i-dont-have-cellulites/sam_0270/" rel="attachment wp-att-1906"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-1906" title="SAM_0270" src="http://www.thefitmommynow.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/SAM_0270.jpg" alt="" width="1024" height="768" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Being adverse to the taste of fried chicken skin and fat when I was young was a blessing, now that I think about it. Right now, however &#8211; I am starting to like the taste of fried chicken skin&#8230; But fat from beef or pork still makes me cringe. Except for bacon that is cooked to crisp perfection! <img src='http://www.thefitmommynow.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">But, I do love to snack and drink! Chips with cream cheese dip, <a href="http://slicehighst.com" target="_blank">red velvet muffin from Slice</a> and an extra large <a href="https://www.facebook.com/chadaoteaplace" target="_blank">dark assam froth from Cha Dao</a> are my current addictions right now. And even if I don&#8217;t have any cellulite, I do have a muffin top and a distended tummy to vouch for my snacking addictions.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">If you are looking for ways on getting rid of cellulites, perhaps you can give up fried chicken skin and meat fat altogether, do moderate exercise for at least thirty minutes a day, drink lots of water and scrub your whole body with Unilab&#8217;s Asian Secrets Lulur or St. Ives Apricot Scrub twice or thrice a week to exfoliate your skin too.</p>

Aside from that, we need to check if you or your loved ones are exhibiting any signs and symptoms of Leptospirosis, a disease that is rampant especially right after a flood.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">What is Leptospirosis?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Infected rats have the bacteria spirochete, which can be passed on to humans through their fecal matter. If you waded in flood water and come across infected fecal matter, you can easily get infected with Leptospirosis. It goes in our body easily through an open wound, mouth and open mucous membranes &#8211; such as our eyes.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">What are the Signs and Symptoms of Leptospirosis?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">For starters you will have fever, chills, headaches and eye pain. Your eyes may start to water and become red, which may become better in a week or more. However, just when you thought that you&#8217;re beginning to feel better &#8211; you get another bout of fever, but this time your neck becomes stiff and start to ache. You may develop jaundice, have meningitis and your kidney function can also be severely compromised.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To cut to the chase, getting infected with Leptospirosis is not a joke. And the only way to prevent it from worsening is to have yourself diagnosed at the earliest possible time. Even if you think it is just a simple fever or flu.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">How do you Treat Leptospirosis?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">You doctor will prescribe a strong antibiotic called Doxycycline. This antibiotic is very strong and can cause some serious side effects of not taken properly. Please visit your nearest health care center and doctor if you are exhibiting early signs of Leptospirosis especially if you know that you could have been exposed through wading in flood water.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Hope this is helpful, so careful on your next run outdoors and wear running shoes in the meantime&#8230; And keep your mouth closed at all times too.</p>

The run scheduled this Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the Mall of Asia grounds has been postponed to <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">September 23, 2012</span></strong>, <strong>same venue at SM Mall of Asia</strong>.</p>
<p>This will give the race officials and participants who are affected by the heavy rains and flooding time to recover and recharge before the run.
