First off: Good news and bad news: bad news is that this is the last episode of TF&TF for a bit, good news is that I have a new project called Neighborhood Diaries and I got a grant for it from the RACC. Read more at www.hoodturkey.com

1. Intro

2. "Theories of Experience", my music under a poem by Ashley Dawn Edwards, check her at Doll Repair.

3. "1st Drafts of the Parables of Jesus" a dramatization of a piece originally posted on McSweeny's and written by AJ Packman.

4. "Rolling Remixed" Basically just a retooling of the documentary Rolling. Is it arty, no, does it need to be heard, you bet.

5. "Shrinktalk" An interview I did that I liked a lot.

Live Art Tomorrow

The Flight and the Fall will be performed live June 11th @ 8pm as part of the New Music Society concert series at Jace Gace 2045 SE Belmont (www.jacegace.com)

The Flight and the Fall is new audio program put together by me, Abraham Ingle, a public artist that has been working in Portland for years and had art displayed in City Hall last March. The Flight and the Fall is, to be honest, a lot like This American Life in format, but comes across differently, you have to hear it to get it, and you can, at www.hoodturkey.com/theflightandthefall, or by searching for it in iTunes (it's free).

The Flight and the Fall just finished it's first episode, which had a theme of "Love and Loss," and featured found sound, interviews, audio compositions, and a radio drama from a McSweeny's contributor (parlez-vous name drop?). Future issues are going to feature different themes, but you'll just have to sit tight and see what comes next.

While the show is similar to This American Life in that I choose a theme and explore that theme through dramatic and comedic stories. The show differs in that The Flight and the Fall is not trying to be journalistic in any way, and presents pieces in a curatorial, rather than journalistic manner. It will make sense once you listen to it.

Abraham Ingle is a public artist who has played in bands such as The Bats from the Pyramids of Egypt, and The Dot and the Line, and DJ's as DJ Invisiboy.

Episode 1: Love and Loss

The First Episode is finally here!

The main hold up was me being ridiculous about the intro and the overdubs, but this was solved (like many things can be) by a bubble bath. Anyway, on to the show notes (and there is secret information below)

1. Intro (The Story of Charles)

2. "Saturday Night", a peice of found sound I set to music. The found sound was originally posted by RJ of Sweet Thunder. Go check it out if you like found sound.

3. "Miss Lonlihearts" a dramatization of a piece originally posted on McSweeny's and written by Wendy Molyneux. The secret fun here is that hidden underneath are a series of samples that chronologically tell the story of long distance communication. They are in this order:

3000 BC: communication drums, smoke signals
490 BC: heliograph (no sound)
1150 in Bagdad pigeon post (coo, fluttering)
16th century: maritime flags
1785 hot air ballon delivers mail (no sound)
1790 AD: semaphore lines (no sound)
1838 AD: telegraph
1848 AD: telephone
1860 pony express
1896 AD: radio
19th century: Signal lamps (no sound)
1911 fist plane air mail, in India, btw
1927 AD: television (no noise)
1969 AD: computer networking (no noise)
1983 AD: Internet. (modem noise).

I swear to god it's all in there somewhere.

4. "Hug Me" An audio composition I made. The fun fact here is that there are only 3 samples here, the first and second set of "hug me's," and then 1 piano sample manipulated in lots of ways, even the "electric guitar at the beginning" is the same piano sample, just overly messed with.

5. "I Was A Broken Hearted Teenage Werewolf" The meat of the project. These are the interviews that I started doing first. Special thanks to everyone who participated. And I'm sorry to those who didn't show up in the interview, it had to do with time and theme and space and all that junk.
