Holy Grail

2017-01-02T12:26:00.002-08:00

The Holy Grail of twin souls playing out on the planet……

As Kirk Douglas emerges as a hundred year old “star”, we are aghast as mother and daughter cast as Burbank’s Debby Reynolds and her Princess Leisa daughter with Eddie Fisher,(“Star Wars”)

Our own yesterdays into post WW2 and Korean turbulence and the advent of television, that “The Singing in the rain”, Eddie Cantor’s identification with Eddie Fisher’s troubadoring,

Carrie Fisher into the next generation.……

III

Is this tragic loss a metaphor for Milton’s “Paradise Lost”? Dinah Shore, Elizabeth Taylor, into the flow of “Star Wars” heritage of abounding souls losing their magnificent grip on

“Paradise Lost” for celluloid archives and their immortal yesterdays.

May all our promise on this minor planet be as transcendent.

“A wonderful start to the New Year.”

Princess Leia’s passing in Los Angeles at age 60, has ramifications for all of us mortals, doesn’t it?

The loss of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’s daughter is a loss for all of us. Growing up in the City of Angels…..”Heavenly” Hills, Hollywood Hills, Brentwood, Sunland, Sunland-Verrdugo , Burbank, Santa Monica, Westwood, Pacific Palisades, Hollywood, Canoga Park, Reseda, Venice, Van Nuys, North Hollywood wherever her grasp on her unconscious took her.

Our planet weeps whether or not a soccer player from London’s Hyde Park, a baseball sub sitting on the bench at Whittier College like “Tricky Dick Nixon “ sixty six years ago, Charlie Chaplin finding his persona in that Venice-Ocean Park roller rink seventy seven years ago.

The Warner Brothers ....Harry Jack Sam out of the Ohio butcher store, capturing Al Jolson singing “The “Jazz Singer”, breaking the Rudolf Valentino silent era absence of “technology”.

Carrie Fisher’s big soul of humanity in her dialogue, her role as the teenager, her pretending ss an actress an author, an addict searching for Shangri-la, in what was once calibrated as “Lost horizon”

Until Carrie Fisher t age 19, found herself as Princess Leia in “Star Wars”.

Between the two Henry’s

2016-11-23T13:00:00.001-08:00

Between the two Henry’s… the actor and star of “Grapes of Wrath”, the stirring dust bowl odysseys this “Oaky” family, in their quest to discover a life style and sanctuary as they ride their Model A Ford…a clunker of six cylinders toward the Father Serra non narcissistic Spanish retreats and monasteries in

Crossing Death Valley, Colorado’s Grand Canyon, the great dam, the Petrified Forest, the Alberquerke New Mexico Indian selling their tri colored blankets, outside the train station.

The other Henry is the former Henry Kissinger of Germany and the Bronx tenements, who migrated into the hierarchy of academia. Little did the Fuhrer knowing as he lay dying in his Berlin bunker

PART 2

Little did the Fuhrer knowing as he lay dying in his Berlin bunker, within an arms length distance from his mistress Eva Braun, the RAF-USAF bombs off their LAKENHEATH RAF-USAF base, outside Cambridge and Duxford’s Battle of BrainSpitfire field, that Adolf, her “Dolfy” had pessimistic “God is dead” Nietzsche on their bunker short wave , his stream of pessimism lauding their never to be forgotten mission…creating the third Reich, the Aryan race above all…”God is dead” I

”Mein Kampf ‘s nemesis was Prime Minister Winston,, of 10 Downing Street, his office of Prime Minister, was a larger than life human named Winston Churchill.

III

So there you have it. The Brooklyn flavor of identifying with the underdog , a Bedford Avenue miracle drift hanging over the knothole kids 55 cent heroes taking on all enemies in the confines of Ebbets Field.

If the Fuhrer could recognize the “Over the Rainbow” from the” Wizard of Oz”, would he could he modify his treadmill suicide pact in that Berlin bunker, his Nietzsche strung life weaved into a suicide pact with his mistressEva Braun, the Brooklyn born heritage of Churchill’s mother and aunt’s origin, out of Brooklyn Heights, their souls, coming back to haunt him and his Eva in their grasping moments, the tone of their Berlin Bunker, not conscious what was playing out from 10 Downing Street, London, England..

Living out their final moments in his Berlin bunker

Living out their final moments in his Berlin bunker, the Fuhrer (known too his amigos) Adolf Hitler). But to his mistress Eva Braun as “Dolfy”. But with or without his mustachio, the Fuhrer, not unlike Beethoven before him (the ode to joy, the 9thSymphony), stuffed cotton in his ear drums, Napoleon cannonsbombarding his brother’s cellar where he fled to escape the blasts reechoing in his growing deafness.

But the Fuhrer’s mistress would have none of this. “Dolfydarling,” her antenna into the planet’s electronic age, her Deutsch electrons into dialing the Apollo theater’s Charley Parker’s Kansas City saxophone. Bebop’s horn’s sound into Harlem and 125th Street, the flowered “My dahling,” said the (“in the Fuhrer’s face”) crushed in his waning moments that all he and Eva lived for was literally going down the drain. A self destructiveness they shared since those Munich highlights singing and drinking beer in those halls……

The 24 hour post 2016 Presidential election

2016-11-09T12:36:00.001-08:00

The 24 hour post 2016 Presidential election in our lifetime deserves the King Henry – Becket persona metaphor, remembering the shellshock. A political revolution in those upstart Colonies that began during our Revolutionary war, the “winter of our discontent”, dumping the tea cargo in Boston harbor.

The monarch and his old friend Becket, once despondent in his meandering youth, appointed by Henry in his persona as Archbishop of Canterbury.

“Becket may we have a word with you? A good word,” asked the King, in his role of Becket’s monarch, the older human in his persona , begging a political favor from his friend.

Not that Becket in his persona, could anticipate that the King, his pal Henry, would ask a political favor of him, in his hyped up persona..

III

“Becket what’s the good word?” asked Hen ry, his right hand smoothing out his royal robes. “Do me a favor@”

“Yes my lord. What ca I do you in for?”

“Use your office, Becket. Your persona. Dissolve m y marriage to Anne. I’ve fallen in love with a new fancy. A newcomer Becket. I beg of you, my old friend,” Henry rubbing his robe’s sleeves.

“I beg of you, Becket. We’re old friends ,”said the King, repeating himself, his persona o longer realistic, culminatingthe threat of the guillotine and the persona Archbishop’s“sacred” nonce.

It breaks your heart may be a cliché in our digital 21st century

2016-09-26T09:21:00.001-07:00

It breaks your heart may be a cliché in our digital 21st century, but the English – Spanish language cannot express the loss of a 24 year old Cuban basebaqll pitcher named Jose Fernandez, gone for the ages in a Miami motor boat accident this morning September 25, 20165.

In what terms could a father grandfather tell his heires to be- a fifteen year old son, a grandson about the disaster and the loss of a star to be- at a 200 million dollars a year in future.

Are there any words in the rags to riches mythology of our Earthly lexicon that could a Cro Magnon Man describe characterize the loss. The Yankee nemesis David Ortiz of the Red Sox could not retire ,the culmination of his baseball career at Fenway.. Ted Williams aura….2 wars, 400 batting average.

Howa 15 year old Havana made his realization into the MaimiMarlin recognition come true. The dream crashing, in those waters, his motor boat crashing, his entire myth of belie ving in his 24 year old passio and thrust.

III

A shock heard thru the the planet. Shedding tears, yet life continues, dreams resume. Contenders for the White House, a leadership in Politics. The sound and fury having 100 million potential viewers. While the Jose Fernandez dream vanishesfrom our consumer society midst...

We weep noit only for Jose’s loved ones, but for ourselves…. A dream playing out crahes and in its crumbling, the aftermath is our torment unable to to find the words to express such a loss of a dream, the disappearance and vanishing of his unconscious and the promise is symbolizes in a Universe where realized dreams come few and far in our technological society.

So there we were tottering down Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, .from Shangri-la, past the Think Tank, toward the Public Library, and “HELLS ANGELS”, “Slim” produced of a “reel”film, starring Jean Harlow…in the movie bibliographysector...

In the meantime, “Slim” altered his focus from becoming a golf pr ad his attentions from the eighteen holes, and courting “Jinx”Falkenburg, pursued Richard Nixon’s family “Nixon burger” in Whittier, where the future President grew up, sitting on the bench at the school’s pigskin and TD’s field bench waiting…..

The 60 minutes segment yesterday of a miscarriage of justice..aninnocent human being ,

abandoned to solitary confinement in a high resolution in tough prison for 35 years, with a one hour recess out in the yard, gives rise to Paul Muni playing out “The Prisoner of Shark Island” many moons ago when our planet was in birth pangs of a depression and it was a desperate time to put food o n the table for a nation of first blood immigrants.

In all the hiccups and sweat of cyberspace, the social networks of Twitter and Facebook, the hacking lyon thievery of technology gone astray, CBS’s minute by minute torture of an African ancestor by a sadistic

Southern prosecutor trying to make a name for himself, a jury of all Caucasians,

Convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that this child of share croppers was to be put to a lingering

Spiritual death for over 35 years in in solitary confement for a murder of a Caucasian man, whose lawn he gardened. A crime he never com mitted…

Growing up in East Brooklyn, we were conscious of Murder Inc….the Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegal gang wars wars ,gangsters being pushed out of Coney Island hotel windows. But for a “Fugitive from a Chain Gang” being embraced by a systemto render equal justice before the frailty of all believers is beyond

any “stacking the deck “ for 600 million victims of Hitler’ persecution”

Not to rub in the system’s ego trip gone blind when new evidence of a consciousness of those culprits…the consciousness of their “swagger” ,married to the system, they denied the hundreds

of hundreds of thousands $, which the State’s Constitution, provided in instances of miscarriage of justice..

To hold up the mirror to such tyranny and infamy in our own land of immigrants from near and far, is b beyond compassionand empathy?.

Where is Clarence Darrow?

Springtime for Hitler

2016-09-07T08:44:00.001-07:00

“Springtime for Hitler” sprung out of our unconscious.

…. the moment on hearing the music station’s announcer ”we lost Gene Wilder 24 hours ago at

years…..”

Zero Mostel, his co star and a genuiis in his own right, were hilarious in their chemistry. The producer and star, obliged to discover a scenario that was doomed for misshapen failure and bankruptcy, so they both could get a windfall from their ”Springtime” investors…

“Mein Kampf”! (The Eagle’s Nest, Berchesgarden, Germany)

Where else on the planet could Gilda Ratner’s Gene Wilder discover his “genie” gone , let out of the

Swami bottle, flowing into a Dr. Freud reversal of the energy needed for his brain waves transcending reversing course, liberating the libido into anticipation, flowing into the marketplace…Nor Yale Law New Haven, Connecticut…Yale Law School, Dean Lou Pollock …

The Chairman of the Philosophy Department was related toPortland Hoffer, comedian Fred Allen’s spouse, and Artie Hershkowitz’s sister, the agent,. Was relatedto Portland. Hence the ‘ Springtime for Hitler” has come completre circe…Our “Mozart and Mushroom Barley” debuted at the College Book Store, the Chapel street leading

to the Bard’s Stratford upon the Avon Chapel Street across the pond. V

Joe Laurie, Jr. Senator Claghorn, hius widow Gilda Ratner ,overjoyed in weeping…waiting at the Pearly Gates for Gene Wil.der’s prence in their “Heaven is on the way to it” .

Who could forget Zero Mostel waiting for his co star’s arrival.

To join the alliance at Yale’s Philosophy department in New Haven, Kingman Brewster, the aristocratic President from Harvard Law School, lest we forget the Artie HershkowitzPortland Hoffa rapport wth the Philosophy Department Chairman.

Having rubbed shoulders with Zero Mostel at tennis court’s ringside (Beverly Hills tennis club) may we submit our Bradeisbrief, fore his chemistry and passion he shared with Gene Wilder. Yet lauding Mel Brooks own generosity in sharig his own “2000 year old manm” with these two geniuses.

May “Springtime for Hitler” live forever.

What strikes an aging human bveing is the discerning ability to fashion the Burt Lancaster network of our BVrnum nd Baily riptides crossing the Continent. From those FDR depression bound laden yesterdays, unlike running to away to the circus….the reaql realiutyof our elven year old year left handed second grade minority scribbler caught up for the rest of his days, iun the whirl of right handed penmanship…

The interconnections mayu sound vain and not wanting to expound anything like an ego trip our circus bound viajo began in the Loma apartments, the corridor bathroom of the Loma partm, ents, Venice ,Califoria.

The Metro Goldwytn Mayer studio in nearby Culver City, placed an article in the LA Tim,es about a search for an actor in the screen aDapatation of “The Year;ling”, a nar4ative byMargaret Kinnan Rawlingds. The role of Jody,a young boy who confronts a fawn seems to our years one of the main threads of her narrative.

Second, our one room apartment was surrounded by the pikes and dams parallel to those in Italy’s own Veice..the canals ad boats bubbling in those musical Mujssoliniambiance.

Here the scene was a roller rink beyond the canals where Charlie Chaplin found his persona. His pantamine gave whirl to his derby, mustache, baggy pegged pants, big shoes, and a cane.

A tested persona that stood the test of time…a young daughter bride namede OonO’Neikl…after Paulette Goddard…several children.

Howqever our narrative our own narrative spins to Westwoodvillage, the home of Sonja Henie’s ice capades and the campous of the Universityof California at Los A ngeles where our older brother of eight years, tred to geta tennis scolarsip. B ut his academics were’t up t the aspiring and beuth of that scholarly g naRRheritage. And he returned to those Easwt Flabush environs of Brooklyn….Remembering how he cheated in the Habla El espanol finals of Ed Sullivan’s c moic Sam Levenson,. But was taked out of flunmkig him byhis scial Studies aunt Sela..

But on that MGMCulver City West Washington stage of dowty ambitious mommas, their teeming nervous boys in hand, the scene had another movie ,going through their ..”lights camera action”

Harold Arlen’s score (a ladder day Barbara Streisamnd coach) for Judy Garland’s “OVER THE RAINBOW

2016-08-17T06:10:00.000-07:00

Sid Caesar’s satirical sketches, second banana Carl Reiner Imogene “Twinkle toes” Coca….Woody Allen in disguise!

Remember the Avenue J bus that Woody Allen caught on his way to his morning Midwood High

School classes ON Bedford Avenue while Jackie Robinson’s Ebbets Field Dodgers, that trip to school, included JuloieRaskin who wrote a note as Chairman of the PhysicalEducation Department to UCLA, favoring “the Flying Philosopher”, Henry Fuchs, the English Department Chairman, Murray and Kappie Eisenstadt ,both serving 185 birthdaystogether…Murray 95, Kappie 90, at a gala under the 4 Bridges in Williamsburg, his role as Civics pro&mento, tennis coach, the Eisenstadts into bridge cards in the Senior Center at Brooklyn College, Murray also Chairing the enrolling classes for Seniors…in addition to his tennis acumen at the Arthur Ashe Billy Jean King facilities in Astoria(having moved the U.S. Open from Forest Hills)

But in the afternoon, Woody Allen departed fo producer Max Liebman “Show of Shows” for the Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner, Imogene Coco (tinsel toes) rehearsals.

Here Howie Morris, or second banana Carl Reiner would go through their paces, mimicking the sanity of the post WW2 powers&nuances of post WW2 ego trips of “Civilization and the disco0ntents” as auteur Mel Brooks interpreted it.(“2000 year old man”)

The Sutton Place saga of 76 year old Florence Foster Jenkins

2016-08-13T14:03:00.001-07:00

The Sutton Place saga of 76 year old Florence Foster Jenkins, a dreamer of an opera singer as Meryl Streep, once of Yale’sDrama School,( 1960’s.Jon Jory, the “Shadow’s” son ditto)identifying with Florence’s dream, Hugh as her exasperated e reality off key discords, the audience sitting on their CarnegieHall hands as our Florence Foster Jenkins plays out surreal moneyed pretensions.

The spoofing a 180 degree from the cosmic consciousness of the Australia diva ex secretary Joan Sutherland….Casting for the divine, Spanish Victoria de Los Angeles into “Lulu”. “Wozzeck” “Carmen”… Roles for Maria Callas who may have sold out her soul for Aristotle Onassis, the Greek shipping magnate. Subsequently JFK’s widow’s ‘H’.

Or in our yesterdaY6S, growing up. Our mother Esther listening in the kitchen of our fifth floor elevator apartment in Flatbush, amist the Murder Incorporated mayhem ad angst of Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Segal, Golden Gloves “I wuz always a contender”, Al “Bummy” Davis.

The Metropolitan Opera and Lily Pons, listening to Andre Kostalonitz. Beethoven’s only opera “Fidelio”.

Ah the Joan Sutherland divine!. The cosmic consciousness indeed. Little did we adolescents know what the score was inour yesterdays of Murder Incorporated in Brownsville. Not ainstinct or a hunch that there was a divine providence, a cosmic consciousness beyond Golden Gloves fist a cuffs. Boys and girsto find yourself like Joan Sutherland high C’s cracking the sound barrier. IV

Could the Yale Drama School’s Meryl Streep live up to thosedreams and expectations, identifying with 76 year old vocalize of Sutton Place socialite Florence Foster Jenkins. off key rhythmic sounds.
