A couple friend and fellow foodies told us a few weeks ago to check out the new coffee shop in town called Zatazza Café located in Jaro and that their pastries are really good. But, as “super-duper” busy parents like we are, it took us almost two weeks before we finally checked out the place. (Actually, it was the need to relax that enticed us to really go there! A slice of cake would take away the stress. )

Zatazza Café is beautifully tucked along Del Carmen Street in Jaro, Iloilo City. You can reach the place easily since one end of Del Carmen Street is fronting West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSUMC). (I’ll give directions in the end, don’t worry!)

As food lovers and fanatics such as ourselves, good thing we had the chance to witness the third cooking demonstration held at SM Hypermarket-Iloilo. (It actually is a bit late for us to post our “nifty” experience, sorry, but what the heck!)

Daily Buns Café and Bakery – from the heard of it, it is like a dream come true for every bread lover, buns serve daily. (Nothing new, but I simply love breads! ) Still, it stays true to its name; buns (breads) are indeed serve daily.

After having a family-time at SM City Iloilo one Sunday afternoon, we decided to grab a snack at the newest branch of Daily Buns Café and Bakery, near the Iloilo Boulevard. Actually, we already had planned to try this fairly subtle bakeshop in their first branch at General Luna Street (located between Bluejay Coffee and Deli and Union Bank) but we never had the chance.

At first, we thought it would be just like any other bakeshop but we surely find it appealing especially to moms and dads as they provide a special nook where kids can gather, do coloring and drawing activities and be less a bother to their parents. (Not that kids are trouble, but you know what I mean! ) The somewhat big art station is specially designed to beguile kids to come-and-have-fun-here-while-your-mom-and-dad-dine-in-peace. They have stacks of coloring pages, complete with coloring materials on a crayon-themed table.

Yes, you heard it right. Two nights, five international cuisines!

To top it all off, you don’t need to fly out of the country. You don’t even have to fly out of Iloilo City. It is coming right here AND it is simply for food excursionists like you.

The Amazing Appetite is a two night indulgence of delectable victuals of international favorites from our very own Filipino cuisine to the lip smacking treats of Italy. It is set on September 15 and 16, 2011 from 5pm to 11pm.

Planning to go to Silay City in Negros Occidental? Drop by Café 1925. A really cozy place that will let you forget the hustle and bustle of the city. (Well, technically, Silay is not that hustling and bustling when we got there. Hehe)

Anyways, I love the place. If you want something romantic, intimate, snug, or whatever you want to call it, this is the perfect place for you.

After less than an hour drop to Silay, we planned to have a good sneak peak of the well-known café near El Ideal bakeshop, the Café 1925. (Actually, we just grabbed a quick snack since we want something to quench our thirst. It was also nearly nightfall and we need to get back to Bacolod City.)

The entire interior was simply divine. Chairs and tables tone with the charismatic mural of Silay City plaza including the prominent Silay church on the wall. If you planned to dine in big groups, you might want to have the entire place for a private function as it can accommodate around six to seven four-seated tables. The bar was a little cluttered but implies a perfect homey picture. And since it is small, you can really sense the aroma of the beautifully cooked food.

A catchy and a good name – that is what caught our attention to the sign we saw when riding a jeepney along UPV – Iloilo City campus. We then plan to check the place out and fortunately, it was something worth it.

Captain Dad’s Resto is a fastfood cum fine-dining restaurant (as they would claim it) specializing in burgers, pasta and some rice meals. Although it was raining that day, we did not hesitate to grab a snack at this rather “concealed” restaurant.

First on the list is the specialty of the house – the Captain Dad’s Burger. It is a huge burger (reminds me of Perri Todd’s, albeit smaller), great for two people (if not so hungry) that cost only Php85.00. The burger patty is uniquely created with fine bits of meat, cooked to a perfect tender. The mouth-watering stack includes the flat cheese, bits of sliced pickles, lettuce, bacon and now my favorite, mustard sauce. In fact, this is the first time that I had tried eating a burger with mustard as the dominant sauce and it was simply delicious.

Walking the streets of Bacolod would open up many exciting possibilities. Part of it is finding a street vendor that does not specialize in your usual sticks but on Piaya hot off the pan.

During our previous trip to Bacolod City, Junnjun and I strolled along La Salle area and to our luck, we found a unique street food cart. Though it may seem ordinary in the area (or perhaps in Bacolod), it was our first time to see Piaya sold on streets and more, on a street food cart. Well, who would not dare try this typical delicacy offered in an unexpected way? (for us, that is.)

The piaya are seemingly average but the taste is fairly similar to those piaya sold on sealed plastics. What is more enticing is the idea that you can have your bite of hot piaya off the pan. Yes, it is not cooked in an oven (or I believe these are cooked that way) but these hot treats are cooked in a smooth pan right in front of your eyes.

For only Php5.00 a piece, you can have a hot piaya while strolling the streets of Bacolod City.

I’ve never have known about Pixie’s Sinugba before (Hey, I seem to have been left behind. ) not until Junnjun told me about this popular restaurant in Manila now becoming a part of the famous array of seafood restaurants in Villa Beach here in Iloilo. Well, it is actually hard to resist something sought after in the Metro, so we gave it a try.

Before raiding their selection of seafood grubs, we checked out their interesting huge aquariums just near the entrance of the restaurant. It is no fancy tank since the fishes that swim in this limited pool are for your eyes and mouth to feast on. That’s right! Pixie’s Sinugba offer live fishes from Managat and Tilapia to their famous Bangus.

You can choose whatever fish you like, any size that is, and have it cooked your way. The style is much similar to the famous Sutukil in Cebu but these are live fishes so you can be assured of the freshness, like what they have in Breakthrough.
