Zulban Simplecloister the Shells of Waning 'X1' - Walking Wounded

Wounded during an early fight with a giant crow in 252. Simplecloister has lost the ability to stand unaided, and has motor and sensory nerve damage. His wounds are mostly healed, and he hobbles around on a crutch.

Sibrek Trumpetletter 'H2' - Walking Wounded

Trumpetletter was beaten by several trolls during The Attack of Lashing in spring 255, his fourth toe-nail on his left foot is smashed apart and he has slight damage to his right hand (skin, fat and muscle), including sensory nerve damage.

Deler Pageoranges 'H7' - Hospitalised Casualty

Pageoranges was badly wounded when the minotaur Edimi paid a visit, the fight left him with a broken elbow, hand and badly bruised throat. Luckily the throat healed, leaving his left hand and elbow broken and requiring attention from our medical dwarfs. He currently rests in our hospital area.

The Execution of Dostngosp 'MalignedTrades' Urarotsmor

Three hammerdwarfs lined up. Tobul Trotswords, Sibrek Trumpetletter and Olon Wheelssingle. They'd been chosen from H Squad to attend to this delicate task. The execution of traitor dwarf Dostngosp 'Malignedtrades' Urarotsmor, one of the Enemies of Daggerbite

The floor already was slick with pools of previously executed prisoner's blood. The air thick with menace. Silence, whilst the three chosen waited for the lever to be pulled and they could begin their work.

He was released naked from his cage. Trumpetletter and Trotswords surged forward, Wheelssingle holding back slightly. Trotswords laid the first blow - bruising Dostngosp in the lower left leg - then punching the traitor in the left upper arm with his other hand.

Dostngosp made a last bid for survival - rushing at Trotswords and bowling him over. Trumpetletter took the opportunity to bite Dostngosp on his right foot, and the two dwarfs tangled and fell together to the ground.

Spotting his chance, Wheelssingle stepped forward and bashed the traitor in the right foot with his warhammer - fracturing the bone. Then Wheelssingle was bashing Dostngosp in the stomach and lower left leg. Dostngosp vomits. Ignoring the filth, Wheelssingle smashes the enemy dwarf in the left foot with his hammer, and the head with his shield - teeth flying from his mouth.

Trumpetletter is back up, and smashes Dostngosp in the stomach with his hammer. Wheelssingle follows his lead and smashes his guts in too. Trotswords returns to his feet and joins back into the task.

After a severe pummelling, it is Wheelssingle who finally bashes the traitor dwarf Dostngosp in the head, cracking his skull.

Trotswords, Trumpetletter and Wheelssingle leave the room slowly, returning to their quarters*. Perhaps to reflect on what they have just done. The traitor dwarf Dostngosp Malignedtrades is dead. An Enemy of Daggerbite is dead.

Daggerbite endures.

Searblind the Soaked Tests

In mid-spring of 256, and Vabok Lorokil the dwarven child has created uthirnural Adagokil - Searblind the Soaked Tests - a tetrahedrite trumpet.

Note in particular the mention it makes of another artifact - The Hero of Speaking (an iron splint created in 253) . More peculiar still is the reference to Urvad Guardarch, a dwarf of unknown origin.

Records indicate that Urvad was a dwarf born during the ancient and dark times, around the year 45. Urvad travelled far, including down to the depths of the world where he tamed giant bats and elk birds. His father was Shem Healedgalleys the hag mate of shadow.

Urvad also led his nation The Scholarly Trumpets in a number of attacks against The Evils of Coloring - a goblin civilisation - in their lair at Doomedtube. Several of our older dwarfs also took part in various raids against Doomedtube so no wonder the legend of Urvad has been passed down from generation to generation.

Urvad died of old age in 205.

Giant Cave Spider Violence 256

Whilst clearing out an area of the depths ready for our lower colony (Knifetown), a giant cave spider makes an appearance!

Olon Wheelssingle (H6) from H Squad is the first be attacked, and lucky for him he was wearing his iron helm - the spider bites him twice in the head but can't penetrate our iron! It settles on covering him in a sticky web, preventing him from moving or fighting back.

Meanwhile the marksdwarfs Dodok Worktactics (X4) and Bomrek Bowink (X5) from X Squad began peppering the beast with their bolts, whilst Ber Mansionclashes (H4) bashes it with his hammer. Mansionclashes also decides to get even more vicious and bites the creature in a leg, before bashing another leg with his hammer so hard the arachnid vomits.

Mansionclashes eventually kicks the spider in it's cephalothorax, bashing and breaking it's beast-like brain and ending it's life.

The Forgotten Beast Thelo Gusseduces makes an entrance

Shortly after the minotaur incident, we realise the forgotten beast Thelo Gusseduces has knocked down our doors and moved past our traps into our 'secure' checkpoint between the main fort and the depths.

It's time to put this beast to bed.

Hello Thelo!

It's first victim is a war dog, which Thelo rapidly tears apart. It then turns its attention onto Deler Vabokshorast, a mason, and chases him down further into the depths. Deler avoids the beast somehow, so the beast returns back up the steps and kills a dwarven child (Stinthad Zesadil). Stinthad at least managed to punch the beast in the foot before he died.

We decide to assemble our secret weapon - the vampire Cubra Stoppedroofs - and send him down to fight the beast. Releasing Cubra from his prison, the undead creature made it's way down towards Thelo. En-route, it decided to snack on a sleeping dwarf child (Kivish Aranolon) and drain him of blood. Cursed fiend!

Finally Cubra is in position, and we release him to attack the forgotten beast. The battle is brief but bloody. Cubra manages to punch Thelo in the head, and parry the first few attacks against him. Then Thelo attacks with a vicious kick to Cubra's right foot followed by biting the vampires left foot - alas silk shoes have no place in battle. Thelo continues, shaking Cubra around by his damaged left foot until the foot is ripped off.

Not one to give up immediately, Cubra still manages to slash Thelo in the leg with his shortsword. Thelo drops Cubra's foot from its mouth, then scratches Cubra's right foot with a claw, tearing arteries whilst Cubra furiously tries to scratch the beast. Thelo follows up with a few vicious kicks, then bites Cubra's right lower arm off, before finally scratching Cubra's face and killing the undead fiend.

Thelo is barely wounded by this point

During this fight, the mason Deler Vabokshorast tries to creep past the assailants and get to safety, but alas just as he is close to sneaking past, Cubra is slain and Thelo turns it's attention to him. Deler flees back into the caverns. The mason is eventually caught up with and killed by Thelo - but not before the beast has stabbed, sucked and feasted on Deler's warm lifeblood!

Looking at the deaths and injuries of previous dwarfs, we realise that lower body armament and hand protection has been lacking in recent fights. We rectify this quickly, spending a month forging high boots, leggings and gauntlets out of iron. The beast Thelo is content to sit in the lower levels - for some reason this time our locked doors do not challenge it to break them down.

Finally we are ready to go, X and H Squads assemble and move down to engage. X Squad is first on the scene, Kubuk Basementfleshes, Dodok Worktactics and Bomrek Bowink immediately begin peppering the creature with bolts.

Basementfleshes decides to bash the creature with his crossbow too - even though he still has ammo left. Bolts from Basementfleshes and Bowink both strike the creature in the chest, puncturing it's lungs. Worktactics meanwhile manages to shoot Thelo in the lower body, tearing the spine. The beast can't seem to hit our plucky dwarfs, and does no damage whatsoever.

The ravenous beast eventually expires having been shot 32 times. Records state that Worktactics performed the final blow, although it is not clear exactly which of the 32 bolts performed the deed. H Squad arrive late at the scene to find a gloating trio of marksdwarfs surrounding their kill.

The Minotaur fiend Edimi pays a visit

It is mid-spring of the year 256 and the minotaur fiend Edimi Idacavere ifathaobi 'The Courageous Shadow' pays a visit to our fort. H Squad alongside Bomrek Bowink from X Squad assemble and head over to prepare a welcoming party for our guest.

Ignoring the tactical option of having Bowink first shoot the minotaur to weaken it, H Squad instead charge the beast and engage at close-quarters.

Deler Pageoranges (H7) is the first to engage, sadly missing the beast with his hammer. Edimi responds by grabbing the dwarf's right hand in a steely grip, then punching Pageoranges left hand so hard it breaks the bone, knocking him to the ground. Edimi then grabs his left arm and breaks it at the elbow.

Zas Laboredskies (H8) takes the opportunity to bash the minotaur in the left foot, hand and arm bruising it; whilst Bowink (X4) shoots the beast in the arm with his crossbow. Finally both Tobul Trotswords (H3) and Laboredskies bash the minotaur in the head, killing it. Trotswords' blow put the beast to the floor - Laboredskies' blow finished the beast off.

But all is not over - Pageoranges has a broken elbow, hand and bruised throat and passes out. For a time it seems like we might have lost him, but the throat appears to heal and we summon a medic to take him to safety and look at his injuries.

Year Five (255)

After our bloody and turbulent Year Four, Year Five was relatively relaxed.

With a tantrum spiral imminent we take drastic action and wall the vampire Cubra 'Stoppedroofs' Kirosfatab up (and promptly forget about him for the rest of the year..)

To make matters worse, a minotaur named Ovus Nikotum Kadol Aran decides to make an appearance at the fort. His full name was Ovus Actionnails the Hatchet of Sculptures. X Squad moves to engagement range - perhaps this will be their last fight? Bomrek Bowink (X5) takes point. Bolts are fired and then.. the minotaur falls into a cage trap! X Squad stands down..

Then in late spring, a vile force of darkness arrives! The Attack of Lashing saw 41 enemies slain for the loss of one dwarf life.
The siege is badly timed to co-incide with The Thirsty Booze Barny of 255 where three dwarfs die of thirst for unexplained reasons, and a fourth dwarf kills another during a tantrum with a thrown empty barrel! (This fourth dwarf is none other than Olon Wheelssingle, who joins our military as a hammerdwarf later in the year)

Two dwarfs (Goden Idenetur and Led Suvasiden) were discovered drained of blood, murderer unknown.

Our hammerdwarfs of H Squad began training throughout the year, preparing for future murder-work Daggerbite will require of them. Both regular and live target training with captured goblins is to be practised.

Sadly in early autumn a training accident claims the life of Tekkud Fortressstrength

A number of giant thrips attacked our pasture, assaulting our dogs. X Squad was dispatched to put down the foul insectoid beasts.

In late winter the forgotten beast Thelo arrives and proceeds to lurk within the lower levels, safely trapped down there by our locked doors.

We expand our hammerdwarf H Squad to 6 dwarfs to replace our recent losses. We celebrate the new recruits enrollment by slaughtering a goblin captive and some rodent coati.

During this year two artifacts were created -
In late summer of 255, Stodir Urvadbekar creates The Nourishing Umbra - a gray chalcedony bed.
In midwinter 255, Kogan ikthagkol the jeweler creates The Dents of Destiny - a chryoprase scepter

The Forgotten Beast Thelo arrives - late 255

It is late-winter of the year 255, and the forgotten beast Thelo has arrived in the lower caverns!

Unfortunately for this creature, our lower levels are secured with multiple traps and locked doors - it can make no way further into the fortress! Maybe when we colonise the lower depths we shall look to this creature (and destroy it!)

The Dents of Destiny

It is mid winter of 255 and Kogan ikthagkol (a jeweler) has created Geb Nam aka The Dents of Destiny- a chrysoprase scepter.

This is a chrysoprase scepter. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. This object menaces with spikes of chrysoprase.

The Death of Tekkud Fortressstrength (Autumn 255)

Whilst training on a live goblin lasher, Tekkud Fortressstrength The Even top - one of our up and coming hammerdwarfs of H Squad - was slain in what can only be described as a training accident..

We had been training H Squad in our killroom by releasing unarmed goblins one at a time from their cages. However it appears this goblin lasher was not properly removed of all weaponry and armour.

During a brief and bloody fight, H Squad attacked the goblin. Ber Mansionclashes (H4 - who is currently also our mayor) was pummelling the goblin with his warhammer, even kicking the goblin in the back of the head at one point. The rest of H Squad surrounded the creature and bashed it with their silver warhammers.

Tekkud Fortressstrength The Even Top (H5) had tried to bash the goblin a few times, but it dodged away. In response the goblin punched Tekkud in the head and the hand, before lashing it's iron whip into Tekkud's head and seriously damaging the dwarf's upper spine. Tekkud had dropped his hammer and shield by this point and fallen over. The goblin followed up with a vicious lash to each foot.

Tekkud was still trying to push the goblin off him as Ber Mansionclashes (hammerdwarf and mayor) bashed the creature in the head with his own warhammer, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing it (the brain) fatally! Apparently the blow was so hard that the hammer lodged itself in the wound and Ber fell off his feet!

Unfortunately Tekkud suffocated shortly afterwards due to his wounds, and has now been interred into the dwarf crypts. The foul goblin that slew Tekkud was known as Strodno Ruthlessflies, a female goblin of little note.

Although Tekkud Fortressstrength The Even Top had only been known to us a short time, he had already shown promise. During The Attack of Lashing, it is widely believed that Tekkud was the first hammerdwarf from H Squad to pick up a warhammer and join the fray without even being armoured correctly. This hadn't fazed Tekkud - who charged through a corridor filled with shrieking trolls (maiming several), then barging past and doubling back to the main entrance to deliver a coup-de-grace to three wounded goblins with his new hammer.

Farewell brave warrior.

Overseers Note: I'm baaack!

So when I said I'd be away for a few days to a week, I think I understated how long I'd be away for...

But I'm back now! Time to get cracking. We're 3/4 of the way through Year 5, with more bloodshed and murderwork to follow. Daggerbite must endure!

Now looking at Dwarf Fortress itself, we're on version 34.11, and from what I've seen there's all sorts of goodies (minecarts!!) to play with in the new version. However I intend to run Daggerbite to the earth before upgrading and starting afresh.

So lets get on with it - strike the earth!

Overseers Note: Update so far

So I thought I'd pen a little note at this point. Firstly to advise I'll be away over the next few days (maybe a week) so the posts will slow down a lot more. In typical dwarf fashion I'll be drinking my body weight in booze over the weekend. Or at least attempting to..

But don't worry(!) - I'll be back next week, and there are some new updates to go out. Eg. We've lost one of our favourite dwarf's in a 'training accident' (goddamn lashers!) and I'd like to do an article on the founding seven dwarfs - those that are still alive anyway.

So while I'm here, any comments/feedback on the blog/fort so far? Anything you like or would like to see more of? More maps / less words perhaps?

SIEGE: The Attack of Lashing (Late Spring 255)

Part of The War of Traps.

This siege comprised of Trolls and Goblins, swordsmen and pikemen, lashers and macemen - and worst of all!! Goblin Bowmen! To the burrows and quick!

The first wave attempts to make an entrance via our secondary entrance. They play with our trap corridor inside the chokehold somewhat. The results are bloody. We lock the remaining doors in the secondary entrance, forcing the few remaining goblins to retreat and move around to the primary entrance.

Fortunately most of the wounded goblins tend to be bowmen, allowing X Squad to ascend the ramparts and pour fire down upon the gobbos milling around the primary entrance.

During the sniping, Kubuk Basementfleshes the Laborious Sect of Trailing even finds some time to shoot a giant kestrel in the head. Unfortunately this didn't kill the feathered rodent.

X Squad continue to pour their deadly rain of fire down upon the goblins milling around the primary entrance.

How was your stay?

One goblin is hit by six bolts so hard that he spends the rest of his visit to Daggerbite vomiting and retching.

Whilst this was happening topside, a troll breaches our lower levels, presumed from the undercaverns. His name is Zolak and he is angry. Zolak charges around the food layer, dwarf's scattering from his path as fast as they can.

Not fast enough for this dog, which Zolak gores to death on his horrible tusks.

Various dogs and civilian dwarfs retaliate by punching and biting, to no avail. Zolak is not going down!

Another dog is slain when Zolak 'scratches' it's paw, causing the paw to sail off!

X Squad arrives on scene, but due to the press of fleeing dwarfs and canine bodyparts, is forced to engage at very close range.

X Squad marksdwarfs Kubuk Basementfleshes and Bomrek Bowink the West Illness of Constructing are the first to the fight, and they join a mason, a planter and a fishery worker in trying to tackle the horned beast.

True to our fort's name, the planter Kol Ustuthzon decides to get personal and bite the troll's ear. Zolak shakes him loose, but as he falls Kol still manages to get a few last punches in. Zolak is still not going down!

We assemble our newly formed H Squad in desperation. Despite being unarmed and unarmed (and certainly un-trained!), they surround the troll and begin punching it. They prove... ineffective.

Eventually Zulban Simplecloister the Shells of Waning from X Squad arrives and puts the troll down with a shot to the face. Good work Simplecloister!

Then disaster strikes - H Squad, still unarmed and unarmoured, decide to rush the remaining goblins and trolls at both the primary and secondary entrances! We quickly send X Squad above them onto the ramparts to assist and provide covering fire. A bloody fight ensues, and one of H Squad - Tekkud Fortressstrength - seems to have picked up a warhammer from the pile. He fights his way past the trolls at the secondary entrance and out into the open, from where he escapes into the surrounding countryside!

Tekkud's colleague Sibrek Trumpetletter does not find it so easy. He does not have a warhammer, simply his iron shield. He still decides to bash a few trolls in with this!

Eventually the fire from X Squad kills off the remaining trolls. Trumpetletter is still alive (a miracle!)

At the main entrance, all is not so well. Edzul Guardedchannel, another hammerdwarf from H Squad, was killed by a goblin pikeman named Snodub Cursefill! It appears Edzul bravely decided to charge the goblin force on his own, and paid for his bravery with the ultimate price. Snodub was later shot and killed by Worktactics. Revenge is sweet!

HERE's TEKKUD!

By this stage the remaining goblins are wounded, attempting to crawl from the field of battle. H Squad is ordered to close range to put the remaining gobbo's out of their misery. Tekkud Fortressstrength clearly relishes this task, as he puts three of the wounded goblins down with rapid hammer blows to the head.

The siege is over. Daggerbite endures.

"We're gonna need a bigger refuse pile"

Our military put in some sterling murder-work here.

For the marksdwarfs: Dodok Worktactics slew 9 enemies with his crossbow, Basementfleshes and Simplecloister both claimed 3 kills, and Bomrek Bowink took down 2 enemies.

For the hammerdwarfs, despite being badly armed and armoured, they performed well. Tekkud Fortressstrength took down 4 enemies, and Ber Mansionclashes took down another 2.

255 Late Spring - The Attack of Lashing

A goblin named Olngo Menaceworked led an assault force of 16 trolls and 64 goblins.
In total, 41 of the enemy were slain.
We lost one dwarf during the attack - Edzul Guardedchannel from H Squad, who was put down by the goblin Snodub Cursefill with an iron pike.

Vampire Attack: Led Suvasiden

It is late summer of 255, and Led Suvasiden (a ranger) has been discovered drained of blood. We are unsure of the undead fiend which has caused this. Curse his dark nature!

Vampire Attack: Goden Idenetur

In the mid summer of 255, Goden Idenetur (a dwarven child), is discovered drained of blood! It seems like we have another undead fiend to deal with!

We shall add his unknown killer to the list of currently known vampires

The Thirsty Booze Barney of 255

In the late spring 255 we have a number of thirsty dwarf related incidents.

Despite having massive stockpiles of booze (500+) and a large stockpile with lots of barrels and pots of different drink types, several dwarves die of thirst.

Tun Dedukiteb (a fishery worker) is the first to die of dehydration. We are not sure exactly what malpractice caused this, although it was noted that one unlucky citizen managed to trap himself in a small work corridor due to a wall building error, and it is possible this might have been Tun.

Then Zefon Adiluvel (a planter) also dies of thirst. Whilst stood right next to the booze-pile.

Then another - Kol Ducimnish, again within spitting distance of the booze-pile!

One of the above three was clearly well-liked, as a rash of tantrums sprouts up. People are being kicked and animals bashed about.

During this angry outbreak a planter named Olon Kolelik in a moment of rage appears to throw a barrel at metalcrafter Cog Lakishbesmar - striking him in the brain and killing him!!

I suppose it is poetic that Olon threw an empty barrel at Cog. But still, we must monitor Olon (and his throwing arm) for he may be rewarded with opportunity in our hallowed militia.

During his time as a goblin raider, Zom slew 2 elves, a dog and a yak.
Zom was slain in late 254 by Dodok Worktactics (X Squad) by an iron crossbow bolt. It is not known if this was during a siege or ambush.

Year Four (254)

Year 254-
Year Four was a bloody and turbulent year. The year four stats are available here.

A few non-threats were ordered to be attacked for target practice by X Squad. Whilst his colleagues were happily shooting away at Thrips men, Crafttempt went after a nearby rattlesnake. True to his nature he did not stand back and shoot the creature, he closed to extremely short rage (aka 'Biting Distance').

In midspring 254, a giant minotaur paid us a visit. Her name was Ohid Nemenala Stoltadtob, known as Ohid Rightsyell the Roasted Wastes. Worktactics shot her down.

Our resident Vampire Dastot Overbasement has drained both Doc Ateslek and Crafttempt. We have decided to make an executive decision, and banish the fiend to the cavern layer. Whilst she is down there, she has some bloody adventures.

Meanwhile in latespring 254, a vile force of darkness arrives! We are under siege! We repulsed the siege with zero dwarfish losses - Elves do not count.

A weaver named Deler Ilushbomrek was reported missing.

We have begun engraving our coffin and memorial area - one section of the wall for each fallen dwarf. Indeed, one of the sections depicts the giant magpie Fatallungs!

An overabundance of badgermen and woman has given our marksdwarves some extra targets. After turning one of their number into a pincushion, the striped vermin decided to stop bothering our hard working citizens.

In late summer, Kol 'Frostybusts' Nisgakablel (a fishery worker) goes beserk because we haven't provided her with the correct materials to construct something mysterious. She is put down rapidly.

Inod Zimlogem, a clothier, was found drained of blood in the late summer. Curses, another fiend! And we still haven't discovered the body of Deler Ilushbomrek...
And yet this time we have witnesses - three dwarves point to the same suspect - Dumed Akrularban, a miner. With four witnesses pointing at him Dumed is prompty accused of being the undead fiend. (Dumed had already tried to blame a passing blacksmith). Our captain of the guard, Sheriff Regmat, moved to deliver a beating to Dumed and a brief fight broke out. Sheriff Regmat got the upper hand however, and delivered a solid pasting to the evil night creature. Meanwhile, construction was hastily made for a jail cell to hold it permanently.

Human traders arrive during late summer 254 and manage to time their arrival alongside a second vile force of darkness!

During the siege, we receive a worrying notice - our resident vampire, banished to the cavern levels, has been 'missing' for a week. Where could she be? We later discover she has died of an infection, due to the wounds received during her fight with the cave swallowmen.

In Late Autumn, we discover Mafol Akumavuz, a carpenter, has been found dead, dehydrated! Foul play is not suspected however, but a simple accident.

We also move our new vampire Dumed Akrularban 'Tincradles' into his vampire accommodation at the front entrance of Daggerbite! Lets keep him out of trouble...

We create The Waxes of Euphoria, a chalk scepter.

Finally some traders arrive at the end of Autumn 254. At the same time as a third vile force of darkness....

Inod Gostermeng dies of thirst in late winter of 254. Inod had previously gone mad for an unexplained reason.

A pump operator named Stodir Dastotstizash has created The Tempest of Seas (another chalk scepter!)

4 days before the years end, an ambush of five goblin axeman arrives. Instead of attempting to breach the fortress, they tear off after a peasant. Swiftly we receive reports of another seven goblin ambushers at the West side of the fort. (Overseer Note: I have no idea what happened to that peasant!!)

The western ambush attempts to breach past our traps. They fail. Indeed one unlucky goblin loses both his hands to one of our spiked iron ball traps. Whilst picking up the pieces, we discover the body of Mebzuth
Shemmuthkat (a woodcrafter) who we assume was slain by the west ambush.

To make matters worse - Ral Rimtarbidok is then discovered drained of blood!

It also seems like half the fortress is currently unhappy. A tantrum spiral is predicted to occur shortly...

Vampire Attack: Ral Rimtarbidok

Ral Rimtarbidok was discovered drained of blood in the latter part of 254. One witness, a dwarf child, pins the crime upon Oddom Lelumdegel.

We know Oddom by another name - Cubra Kirosfatab 'Stoppedroofs' a cursed vampire of the night who has slain over 2000 other beings.

Overseers Note: Tantrums

Just as the bloody year of 254 ends, we lose a well-liked dwarf to a goblin ambush. This appears to have kicked off a tantrum spiral, and we're seeing a lot of flashing red symbols.

We have walled off our last vampire as a backup plan, and will see if this storm can be ridden out!

Update1 - 11th Early Spring:
Tantrum Status: 13 very unhappy dwarfs, 10 miserable.
Activity - Plenty of tantrums and small fights happening across the fort. No major injuries. A minotaur has chosen now of all time to visit however.

Update2 - 14th Early Spring:
Tantrum Status: 16 very unhappy dwarfs, 9 miserable
Activity - The minotaur has fallen into a cage trap, conveniently just as X Squad started shooting at it.

Update3 - 6th Mid Spring:
Tantrum Status: 2 very unhappy dwarfs, 3 miserable
We might be through this - there has been a mass production of individual bedrooms to calm these angry dwarfs down!

Update 4 - 20th Mid Spring:
Tantrum Status: 3 miserable dwarfs left.
Looks like the tantrum spiral is over. With no deaths or major injuries! Victory for Daggerbite!

SIEGE: The Eviscerated Onslaught (Late Autumn 254)

Part of The War of Traps

The Eviscerated Onslaught was a siege led by a traitor dwarf, Dostngosp Malignedtrades. An assault force comprising 24 trolls and 47 goblins attempted to breach our defenses and wreak havoc. We disagreed with their objective!

The assault parties arrived just behind a dwarfish caravan, prompting panic amongst the traders, bodydwarves and pack beasts. The former promptly scurried towards the supposed safety of the walls of Daggerbite. Meanwhile several stalwart bodydwarves stood their ground and turned to face the goblinoid menace.

Two axedwarfs -Vabok Viperhame and Shorast Kalankadol - stand close to provide a defensive front. Vabok stabs a few goblins and limbs several of the foul creatures before being stabbed in the foot himself. Nearby Shorast is demolishing a pair of trolls, slicing off body parts left right and centre.

Vabok takes a bash to his arm from a goblinoid war hammer, breaking the bone and causing intense pain. Whilst he drops his axe and staggers to the ground the vicious goblin steps forward and stoves his head in like an overripe fruit. His killer was Olngo Hateflea.

Shorast meanwhile is still hacking away. Parts of troll are littering the ground near to him. He must realise his brother in arms has fallen? Perhaps he has seen him out of the corner of his eye? In the meantime a goblin loses his foot to Shorast's axework.

During the frantic battle, Shorast loses his bronze shield, and now has to parry furiously each attack made at him. A goblin manages to stab Shorast in the foot with his foul scimitar, twisting the evil blade around. Shorast responds by hacking into the goblin's hand, severing an artery.

The merchants meanwhile have not made it to the safety of the fort, and are being run down by fast moving goblin skirmishers. Curse them! One merchant is not amused at being kicked in the head by a goblin, in fact he's ENRAGED. Sadly, being enraged is no match for cold hard.. copper. The merchant falls over during the fight and the goblins descend on him, stabbing over and over until one casually passes it's two handed sword through the merchants head.

Our marksdwarfs of X Squad have assembled atop the ramparts to provide our brethren with covering fire. As they arrive on station they begin firing in earnest. Basementfleshes is the first on scene and the first to engage. Pour it on!

In the meantime we have lost track of Shorast - last seen being chased across the map by a large number of hostiles. Later we find he survived the onslaught, and earned himself the title of Shorast Trailhatchets the Savage Summit of Cities. During this siege he killed 4 trolls and 1 goblin.

A party of goblins arrives near to our front gate - close to our vampire Urdimgubel 'Towerbulbous' in his lair. RELEASE HIM! The goblins make short work of him and he makes no dent in the goblin assault.

As the enemy arrives close to our main entrance and chokezone, we move the marksdwarfs into position to reign down fire. The first goblin into the killzone falls into a cage trap almost immediately. The rest muddle around for a short while, allowing our bolts to greet them in earnest. Then they rush down the chokezone into our delicious traps!

Blood, vomit and body parts soon litter the ground. Some of the goblins at the rear, no doubt seeing the remains of their colleagues liberally splattered across our walls, decide to move a bit further back. Some of them start to run and bolt towards safety.

This doesn't stop a herbalist named Rakust Dakostber from charging into the goblins for no apparent reason. Perhaps he wanted to sell them some lotion for their many wounds? It's fair to say, the sale does not go well. Rakust is stabbed with a two handed sword to the arm, lips, and lower body. One foul goblin even bites him in the stomach. Rakust vomits. Whilst this butchery is going on, another goblin slices Rakust's leg off and he expires.

The trolls then take a turn barging down into our chokezone, and soon meet the hospitality of our traps. The resulting trolldeath bloodbath breaks the morale of the invaders, and they start to flee in earnest. X Squad continues to shoot them down as they rout. Finally, the siege is over!

In total some 26 enemies were slain, 10 trolls and 16 goblins. Only two of our own were killed during the attack (plus/minus several alarm-dogs).

X Squad performed brilliantly. Bowink, Basementfleshes and Worktactics slew two enemies each, and our wounded hero Simplecloister took down another.

The traitor dwarf Dostngosp Malignedtrades was not caught or harmed during this siege. Next time 'Trades! We will teach you a lesson!

254 Late Autumn - The Eviscerated Onslaught

Led by a traitor dwarf, Dostngosp Malignedtrades, the assault force comprised of 24 trolls, 47 goblins and the aforementioned dwarven traitor.

In total 26 of the enemy were slain, 10 goblins and 16 trolls. All our marksdwarfs of X Squad proved their worth and scored kills.

We lost two dwarfs during this attack - our second vampire Urdimgubel 'Towerbulbous', and a herbalist named Rakust.

A dwarven caravan was unfortunately attacked during the siege and put to the sword.
