I have compiled a list of what I feel are the most outdated wedding traditions, and i’m interested to see what you think as well!

1. The White Dress – Many dresses are now ivory or cream, some brides are even choosing to wear colored dresses.

2. The Superstition – Is it really bad luck to see each other before-hand on your wedding day? I just like the groom’s facial expression when the bride begins her jaunt down the aisle to him.

3. The Cake Smashing- Maybe it’s just me, but I do not want a face full of cake.

4. Changing of the Bride’s last name- Many women now, mainly professional women are keeping their maiden names, or even hyphenating their maiden name with their husband’s last name.

5. Lighting of the Unity Candle – There are other ways to go about showing your Unity. Sand Ceremony is absolutely gorgeous and makes for an excellent keepsake!

6. Seating Of The Family On Opposite Sides- I have seen many signs that are posted at weddings that try to keep the families away from doing this. “Please choose a seat, not a side.”

7. Instead of throwing Rice, what else could we do? – I say we shoot off confetti cannons!

8. The very traditional “I ____ Take you ___” wedding vows. – I feel that its rather endearing to write your own personalized wedding vows.

9. Tossing the Bouquet and Garter – How many of us really believe that those who catch these are the next to get married?

Trout Unlimited – A vast array of trout fishing artifacts and material will be exhibited.

Amphibian Ark – A collection of unique amphibious creatures will be on display.

Herb Shed – A variety of herbs for your spring garden. Teas and herbal medicine make this a one stop shop.

The Red Brick Art Gallery – Many samples of beautiful and natural artwork by local artists will be on exhibit and for sale.

Local Greenhouses will also be here with spring plants ready for planting and will be available for purchase.

Quiet Creek Farms – Unique natural items are for sale and the science of mushrooms will be presented as well as sustainability topics.

There will be something for everyone here in Foxburg on Saturday May 4th, please stop by. We hope to see your smiling face!

Nature Field-Trips with Audobon guides. These will start in Foxburg, travel along the Allegheny river and up at Riverstone Estate (transportation provided). Shuttles leave Foxburg every hour beginning at 7:00 am.

12pm Noon - Tales of a Trail Camera – a look into the intimate lives of our furry forest friends. This will be at Lincoln Hall, admission is free.

1:00 pm – Butterfly Release on the deck of Foxburg Inn.

2:00pm – Nature photo-hike held at Riverstone Estate. Held in conjunction with a photo contest (wooohoo!) sponsored by Foxburg Inn. To enter you must upload your photos to The Foxburg Inn Facebook Page.

5:30 pm – Golden Eagle Lecture/Dinner. This will be a presentation given by Trish Miller & Mike Lanzone. Dinner will be catered by the Allegheny Grille, please contact Foxburg Inn for Reservations (724-659-3116)

8:30 pm - Owl Prowl via Hay Wagons at the Riverstone Estate.

He will be here performing for us on Saturday May 4th.
