DRAGONS WORLD: EGG GUIDE

2014-01-26T11:00:00.003-06:00

So, I've recently become addicted to Dragons World on my phone. The outcome of breeding certain dragons isn't always predictable (although, you can narrow it down based on breeding/incubation time) and I'm super impatient and need to know what dragon I'm going to get based on the egg. I've scoured the internet and can't find a list or chart showing what each dragon's egg looks like, so I decided to start my own. Since I started this list while already at level 12, I'm having to go back to previously acquired dragons to get screen shots and will update this chart when I get new ones. If you would like to contribute to any of the dragons with a question mark, please send me a screen shot of the "collect" button on the egg along with which egg it is.

Thanks and I hope this helps you out!!

2014 Goals

2014-01-02T22:39:00.000-06:00

Since I'm a big fan of to-do lists, here are my goals for 2014:

- Blog more often, at least once a month.
- Cook from scratch more often (and blog about it).
- Study and take the GMAT and apply for grad school.
- Finish the two paintings I started early in 2013.
- Go through my clothes and shoes and donate what I know I won't wear.
- Get organized and keep up with it.
- Plant a garden in front of the house.
- Build a fenced-in vegetable garden with raised garden boxes (Can't do this within city limits of South Pasadena - thanks GISHWHES =P )
- Finish painting the house (bathrooms, guest bedroom, office, and laundry room)
- Clean out and organize the workshop.
- Build a headboard/footboard for the bed.

Guess who's a homeowner!

I've been baking a LOT lately... Here's the Batman/Superman Adventures birthday cake I made for Matt this weekend.

Delicious cupcakes

2013-07-04T13:32:00.000-05:00

I made these for the 4th of July, but forgot to add the blue sprinkles... oh well! Red velvet cupcakes stuffed with Jameson ganache and topped with Baileys Irish Cream icing and cute little flags I found in the dollar bins at Michaels. Awwwwww yeeeeah. I should post the recipe, huh? I'll do it soon...

Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Doctor Who Wallpaper

2012-12-17T22:17:00.000-06:00

I needed a Christmas-y Doctor Who wallpaper for my computer monitors at work. In New Orleans, it just doesn't feel like Christmas right now. So here's a quick wallpaper I threw together to get you in the holiday spirit!

And for your Facebook cover photo:

Have a Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey Christmas!

2012-12-16T21:39:00.000-06:00

Best BFF ever!

After Alex gave me this early Christmas present of a glass TARDIS ornament, I decided to go ahead with a Doctor Who themed Christmas Tree this year. We started on Weeping Angel tree toppers (still in progress), inspired by this tutorial by Cynthia at The Creative Crossing. I'll post pictures of those once they're finished.

Since I only had time to make a few ornaments, I filled up the rest of the tree with "TARDIS Blue" glass ornaments, stuck random doctor who toys into the tree (like my blue dalek, wind-up weeping angel, and 11th doctor sonic screwdriver) and then topped off the tree with a fez and a bowtie!

Here are a couple of the ornaments I made. The adipose are made of Sculpey and the Van Gogh TARDIS exploding is decoupaged onto a glass ornament. After being approached about selling the adipose ornaments, I'm trying to get an annual Doctor Who Handmade Ornament Swap going on to not only build up my Whovian ornament collection, but also to spread the crafty cheer to those looking to make their tree a bit more wibbly-wobbly or timey-wimey. Let me know if you're interested!

Classy Femme Boba Fett

2012-12-06T12:08:00.001-06:00

This is what I've been playing around with for one of my costumes for Dragon*Con next year. I'm on the hunt for a decent Boba Fett helmet that isn't terribly expensive. I'm even looking to purchase an unfinished "bucket" and then do my own painting/add visor/add voice amplifier. So, we'll see. A friend is going to help me make the dress (so I don't end up sewing myself to something) and we're going to alter an underbust corset that I already have.

I think I'm leaning more to the one on the right.

New website, new tools, new jewelry!

2012-12-04T21:46:00.000-06:00

My website, www.angelafalcone.com, has been totally revamped. Check it out and let me know what you think. I created a special mobile site since the main website is flash, so that's what you will get if you're viewing from your phone.

Anyway, I got a new riveting tool for my birthday. Super exciting! I've also had minimal saw blade breakage lately and that makes me happy. (I hope I didn't jinx myself just now...) So, here are a few things I've been working on.

Alex and I are doing the Gretna Farmers Market this weekend with her knitted stuff and my jewelry. Should be fun!

Wizard World Comic Con: New Orleans 2012

2012-12-03T20:12:00.000-06:00

My friend's daughter as Amelia Pond in front of the TARDIS

Wizard World Comic Con in New Orleans came twice this year. Once again, there were some great celebrity guests, but my favorite thing to do at comic cons is to check out all of the costumes. Alex and I wore our Dalek and TARDIS dresses. It was a bit difficult to take photos of costumes when you're being stopped to take photos as well, but here are a few pictures I snagged with my phone:

This was given to me at the con by a girl who was super excited about my dalek dress and she drew this for me! How sweet is that!?! This now has a permanent spot on my fridge!

DIY $5 Christmas Wreath

2012-11-30T20:51:00.000-06:00

OK, ya'll. If you're like me and can't justify spending money on yourself when Christmas is right around the corner, this is the perfect inexpensive DIY wreath to decorate your boring door. I bought all of the supplies from the Dollar Tree and spent a grand total of $5.44, including tax. This doesn't include my glue gun or ribbon that I already had.

For the base, I bought one for $1 at the Dollar Tree, or you can take an existing wreath that you don't like and strip it down. I picked out some shimmery ribbon and wrapped it around the base and hot glued the ends down where the flowers would go. I cut the poinsettias and pine cones to separate them and then individually started threading the wire stem through the branches in the wreath and wrapped the remaining stem around the back of the wreath and twisted in. It's a bit tricky at first, but play around with it. As far as getting the statue to stay, hot glue is your best friend. Luckily, the owl statue was hollow, so it wasn't too heavy. Also hot glue any stems or pieces that are loose.

Athena Painting

2012-11-22T21:00:00.000-06:00

I've been working on this on and off lately. Anxious to get it finished and start on Hera! I'm a bit stuck on the dress right now. I've done some more work on it since this picture, but mainly in the olive trees in the background and in the owl. I'm thinking about working in a doubleheaded axe (labrys) into the pattern in her dress to keep with the Athena theme. We'll see.

Dragon*Con 2012 adventures

2012-09-08T16:18:00.000-05:00

With Slvester McCoy, the seventh doctor!

Is it time for Dragon*Con again, yet??!? I'm anxious for next year. Alex and I managed to pull together my Dalek dress to go with her TARDIS dress for the con this year. I made these pill box hats from sheets of felt and recruited the help of my dad to figure out lighting. They came out super cute and I'm excited to add to the costumes and keep them in cosplay rotation. We also had some female doctor who costumes, but those were way too hot and didn't last long in Labor Day Atlanta heat... Next costume project: classy femme Boba Fett!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from Dragon*Con weekend. I loved meeting so many great and interesting people! Never a dull moment!

Doctor Who and Ninja Themed Surprise Party!

2012-08-04T09:32:00.000-05:00

The Ninjas Have The TARDIS

Ninja 3 layer cake with homemade fondant, marshmallow adipose, TARDIS pinata, and ninja cake pops!

This post is way overdue.

My friend, Matt, came to me to help him give his girlfriend, Sam, a memorable birthday party. Her birthday is July 4th, and Matt said that she never has a birthday party on her birthday. She's a big Doctor Who fan and loves ninjas, so we decided to go with a Doctor Who and ninja themed surprise party. Alex and I worked on coming up with different themed snacks and decorations (Marshmallow adipose, ninja cake pops, a ninja face cake, TARDIS banner and star confetti) and Matt supplied us with "TARDIS blue" tableware and streamers. Matt also made a TARDIS pinata, Doctor Who buttons, and a pin-the-eyestalk-on-the-Dalek game! It was great! And so much fun! I will post a download for the TARDIS birthday banner later!

Creepin' - Halloween 2011

2011-11-05T13:27:00.000-05:00

Getcha knees flexin' and your arms t-rexin' and creep, aaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!

We were creeps for Halloween. Great thing about this costume... pockets! And no sewing stuff together last minute!! The only item I actually had to make were the glasses. We had many pockets for necessary Halloween items, like our flasks. Always, always be prepared!

Doctor Who Wallpaper: Amy Pond and the Silence

2011-09-21T19:08:00.003-05:00

Oh, that feeling when Amy's reflection in "Day of the Moon" reveals that she has seen far too many Silents, that "oh crap!" feeling, yeah, I'm getting it just thinking about it.

It's OWL good!

2011-09-20T00:01:00.001-05:00

Finally giving myself more time to work on what I love. Too bad silver has been around $40/oz lately (about four times the cost I was paying when I started making sterling silver jewelry in 2006). I'm turning to less expensive metals like copper and brass to satisfy my jewelry making needs. I have a couple of giant sheets of copper right now, but it's so thin! I had no idea how much that mattered with sawing sheet metal. The metal bends as you're sawing and since I'm still learning how to saw sheet metal, I end up breaking a ton of saw blades. One thing that I found helped is that I took a square of copper and hammered it a bit until the metal wasn't as malleable. I only broke one blade for this owl pendant, and that makes me super happy!

Dragon*Con 2011 in Atlanta, GA

For those of you who don't get the reference, our costumes are from the episode "The Empty Child" from Season 1 of Doctor Who. Alex found these sweet authentic WWII British civilian issued gas masks somewhere online. So we cleaned them and then gutted the respirator with my dad's can opener from the army for opening MRE's, to get all of the charcoal, mesh, and junk out.

Visit my Flickr photostream for more pictures from Dragon*Con!

Doctor Who Wallpaper: Sometimes Evil Doesn't Make a Sound...

2011-09-08T12:45:00.003-05:00

I've been searching for screenshots from Doctor Who/ Buffy to make a new tshirt design. In the meantime, here's a new wallpaper I made. Not safe for those who had nightmares about the Silence.
