I just saw yet another news story about a "possible man with a gun" at one university or another. There seems to have been something of a rash of them lately. None, as far as I can tell, have been substantiated.

The conspiracy theorist in me is beginning to wonder if all of these coincidences...aren't.

Creeping socialism

Much has been made of the creeping socialism that is coming to define life in these United States. Over my lifetime, it's been picking up speed until now I can feel the wind in my face. Often, though, you can't quite tell just where the breeze orginates. At least in the Case of High Allegheny National Park, you can.

Objections are many and varied, as The Revivalist notes. My main objection is the creation of another area in which the traditional uses of the land will be forbidden, and where those lands that are privately owned will be slowly incorporated into this new park.

I may sound like the conspiracy theorists out there, but the light of liberty seems to be getting dimmer by the year.

Perhaps they shoudl occupy a Port-o-Jon

The Muslim Brotherhood won by far the biggest share of seats allocated to party lists in Egypt's first freely-elected parliament in decades, final results confirmed, giving it a major role in drafting the country's new constitution.

Couple this with the earlier triumph in Libya and his great works in Iraq and Afghanistan, and adding in his continuing efforts in Syria and other countries in the region, I'd say our non-Muslim president has done more to encourage radical Islamists in 3 years than they've done for themselves in 30.

Police have no duty to protect you.

New Britain, CT police are told that attempting to save lives isn't related to their work.

They don't get there in time to catch the bad guys, although they did get there in time to clean up the mess.

Police are allowed to relieve citizens of their property and then keep it for their own use with no proof that any illegal activity has occurred.

Yeah, I seem to have it straight.

Yeah, free ice cream has been a bit hard to come by around here. As I expected, the new job is wearing steel-toed boots and is kicking my fat old...something or other.

I've tried to get up those things that I thought most noteworthy, plus a few fun things. Hopefully some things pique my interest this weekend.

I will note that the current politics, economic and other news, while interesting, just isn't giving much to work with. I'm not sure how many more "You damn well better prep now because you won't be able to later" posts I have left in me. I see very little to lead me to think that things will get better any time soon. On the contrary, all I see is confirmation that we had all best prepare to embrace the suck.

Ya'll hang in there, because that's what I'm doing--by my fingernails. Thank heaven that I enjoy my work.

As I told some of the eco-fools at a former employer, you may not know what you think you know about conserving energy. I'm all for efficiency, and conserving anything that I pay for, such as energy, is great as long as it doesn't adversely impact my life. (Example--you'll save a lot of money if you turn your thermostat down to 60 in the winter, but it's going to be darn cold in that house.)

However, as one person at the current employer has noted, it's perfectly possible to "save your way into mediocrity."

Not that eco-fools would believe that.

A federal judge has dismissed a firearms industry association's lawsuit seeking to block the Obama administration from requiring gun store owners in Southwest border states to report when customers buy multiple high-powered rifles.

The judge, Rosemary M. Collyer, is a Bush (the younger) appointee. Tell me again how Republicans are so-o-o much better than Democrats on the whole freedom thing....

You know, Daniel Harless. The one who repeated threatened to murder a CCW licensee? Yeah, that's the one.

The assclown has been fired from Canton, OH PD.

However, he does plan to appeal on the account of his PTSD, which he claims came from someone trying to bite off his finger.

Poor baby. Why he hasn't been arrested still evades me. If I had threatened to pump 10 rounds into him, I have no doubt that I would still be in jail.
