The Frosted Petticoat

The Clock Tower

2015-03-03T10:51:00.002-05:00

Most couples opt for the traditional gazebo or church ceremony. But Katie and Cameron aren't most couples! With a clock tower wedding in Colorado, these two cuties certainly know how to break the mold. Photographer Tiffany Brinton gives us insight into this amazingly awesome wedding...

It was a crazy day... a zombie apocalypse if you will. Katie and Cameron were the perfect couple to be surprised by the Denver Zombie Crawl. The vast majority of brides would have been disappointed and sad all day. Katie is in the small group that embraced it and had some fun. We love shooting at the clock tower. It is such a great venue and although small, it provides some really unique and wonderful photos. Katie and Cameron were just great to be around - fun, easy going, and incredibly happy!

Retro Beach Babies

2015-02-26T08:59:00.001-05:00

Neil and Savanna were best friends in college. Study buddies, co-workers, and even the occasional wingman for each other, the chemistry was undeniable. As friends, their most cherished memories were going to the beach after a long day and having in-depth conversations about their hopes and dreams. They were meant to be together, they just didn't realize it. It wasn't until later that a mutual friend pointed out that they were soul mates, that Savanna and Neil finally saw it. Now these soon-to-be newlyweds are commemorating their love in a timeless, retro style... and it couldn't be more adorable!

Expanded (Baby) Horizons

2015-02-24T10:16:00.001-05:00

Gone are the days of the bright pink and powder blue, gender-specific baby showers. And to that I say, Hallelujah! It's not that I'm not a fan of those colors in their own right, I just think it's about time expectant aunties and grandmas-in-laws get a bit more creative with their shower themes. That's why its so refreshing to see events like today's pretty party. Inspired by the little one's nursery colors, this coral, navy, and gray themed shindig is a great example of expanded horizons. With sweet monogram details and a perfectly executed palette, let this serve as the standard for those who want to think outside the shower box!

The Spanish Wild

2015-02-24T09:59:00.000-05:00

The sad truth for many a bride is that the big day just doesn't live up to their expectations. This was true for photographer Alicia Rius. However, in a happy turn of events she was given a second chance to recreate her wedding day. Alicia gives us insight into her vision:

I am a Spanish photographer living in California. Last year I got married in the city council of San Francisco, far away from my family and friends in Spain. The wedding had absolutely nothing to do with what I envisioned for myself, but due to the circumstances I had to have a very modest wedding.

This Christmas, I went to Spain and wanted to have the wedding I never had. So I organized this styled photo shoot that shows what I dreamed of. I wanted something romantic and yet wild. Thus, the white horse in the open field. I also grew up surrounded by nature and I wanted to have that in my shoot. That's why my second location was in the rainforest... where it's quiet, pure, and intimate.

Retreat at Cool Spring

2015-02-20T12:18:00.002-05:00

Believe it or not, Spring is upon us! I know, I know... it seems like a bleak prospect in light of recent cold-weather events, but truly it's coming. So let's start mentally preparing by planning fancy tea times! Today's gorgeous vintageness is sure to get you in the mood. Photographer Erin Waller breaks down all the fabulous details:

This inspirational shoot was set in the back woods of Bluemont, Virgina. By chance, I discovered a late 1700's home being renovated int a wedding and business retreat. The new venue will be called Retreat at Cool Spring and is full of Civil War history. We were looking for a location that would compliment our vision of an early 1900s English garden, and we hit the jackpot. The stone walls and chipped paint was a perfect backdrop to our theme. We chose a lovely dress and shoes from Ruche to fit the genre. We mixed new and vintage pieces with the attire and decor. Celebrating Love by marcie used unique pieces from Ginger & Spice Vintage Rentals to style wedding elements in a fun new way. We wanted to take advantage of the amazing features within the retreat like the corner cabinets and large windows to add to the uniqueness of the shoot. Our florist, Studio in Bloom, tied it all together with the lovely floral bouquets, using a lot of ferns and trailing honeysuckle for a free garden feeling.

Snow White Bride

2015-02-19T17:13:00.001-05:00

High school sweethearts Kyle and Shari just celebrated their five year wedding anniversary. To commemorate the occasion, they decided to have portraits done in a fairytale style. Photographer Maura Jane explains the special photo session:

A hopeless romantic at heart, Shari loves any story about true love, her favorite being Snow White. Knowing this, I suggested we do a mini vow renewal inspired by the tale. Incorporating trends, we created a whimsical story of Shari and Kyle's own personal fairytale. Shari donned a backless Allure gown and carried a bouquet inspired by Pantone's color of the year, Marsala. The natural landscape of snow and tall pine trees created the perfect setting. Just Lovely Weddings & Events made a charming ceremony backdrop out of gold leaves and red apples. All in all it was a perfect day and Shari and Kyle had a great time recreating this classic story.

Swedish Pastel

2015-02-19T10:21:00.003-05:00

Believe it or not, the whole stylized wedding was (for a long time) an exclusively American thing. That's right, most international couples used to just get married in understated and simple style. Unsurprisingly, the American trend slowly caught on and now has travelled the globe with escort cards and coordinated color palettes. And I've got a little news for you, my fellow compatriots... it seems as if the international couples are outdoing us! Gasp!

Don't worry, there's no need to start a global incident over tulle and floral arrangements because I have the perfect solution. I propose an International Treaty for Mutual Admiration of Wedded Bliss. Who's with me?! Let us extend the first garland of peace by "ooh-ing" and "ahh-ing" at this breathtaking wedding from Sweden. Gorgeous newlyweds Sofia and Magnus said their "I dos" in dreamy pastel style this past summer and it certainly was a day to admire. So, put down the unity candle that you whittled into a stake, join in on our treaty, and do as the Swedes do...

Balloon Pop

2015-02-17T11:50:00.004-05:00

If your sister is a photographer, then you know you're going to get some amazing photographic documentation of your pregnancy. Take today's sweet expectant parents, Mike and Jordan, for example. To announce their baby's gender, they had Jordan's super talented photographer sister shoot the big reveal. And if you ask me, the love behind the camera clearly translates on film. Photographer Brooke Ashley gives us insight into the special day:

Gender reveal sessions are some of my favorite moments to capture. What makes it even better is when you get to do it for your family! This is my adorable sister and her husband. They have been married just over a year when they found out they were expecting their first child together. My sister has a son from a previous relationship and Michael is such a great father figure that I know he is going to be an amazing father! I was so happy to be able to help them announce the gender this way! Thanks to one amazing vendor on Etsy, I was able to find this blacked out balloon filled with either pink or blue confetti. As they popped the balloon and blue confetti fell, it was such a priceless moment. I loved the look on their faces! I had so much fun capturing this moment for my sister and I cannot wait to meet their little one this coming May!

Valentine's Day Marsala

2015-02-11T13:15:00.000-05:00

With Valentine's Day falling on a Saturday this year, you know there are going to be weddings en masse. So to celebrate this wedded day, photographer Andie Freeman put together a cupid-inspired wedding featuring Pantone's color of the year, "Marsala". Check out this gorgeously rustic and vibrant Valentine's Day wedding and start day dreaming about your own weekend plans with your loved one. If you want to recreate this fabulous affair, Andie breaks down all the beautiful details for us below:

We used a beautiful blush palette accented with Pantone's color of the year, Marsala. The bridal gown was from the White by Vera Wang collection offered by David's Bridal and our groom wore a pale grey slim fit suit with a blush and white seersucker bowtie. Because it's cold outside (it is February after all), our bride topped off her stunning designer gown with a vintage blonde mink coat. She had a stunning messy updo bun and finished off the look with a Marsala ribbon around her hair. Bombshell Creations provided flawless makeup. Her jewelry consisted of pink rubies and diamonds designed by custom jeweler TK Anderson.

The invitations are free printables from Wedding Chicks! Not a bad idea if you are penny pinching. And those DIY hearts all around the invites make great confetti for decor or for your exit. We used several new 2015 trends that we love, including a champagne tower and passing the food around family style. It is such a wonderful way to share a meal with your closest family and friends.

There is a common, yet unspoken, Valentine's Day ritual that every girl goes through... the costume change. If celebrities can get away with multiple costume changes in a single night, why can't we?! Have your sets picked out and find the right moments to change into something more comfortable. Romance & Darkness

2015-02-04T10:50:00.003-05:00

When you have a beautiful location, the sky is the limit when it comes to decor. Take today's gorgeously styled shoot in Ontario. With a fairytale theme, the vendors went to town with whimsical decor and magical details. Photographer Anne Edgar breaks down all the thoughtful details:

Our goal was to inspire brides to think outside the box. The gorgeous mix of purples and added splashes of pink, peach, green, teal, grey, and gold created a romantic charm and mystery to all the natural elements surrounding this shoot.

Little Details created a whimsical invitation suite of shimmery gold with whites and purples to compliment the romantic vignette. A deer head motif was used to blend the natural elements. She also created a unique seating chart out of an old garden accessory and menu cards were placed upon each plate.

Our stylists created a quaint little whiskey and cigar bar using a vintage hall table topped with moss, a crystal decanter, vintage glasses, old cigar boxes, and a deer skull. Two beautiful floral arrangements filled with flowers were placed upon the table.

Sweet Treats by Jen designed a beautiful cake infused with the woodsy romantic feel complimenting the theme. For the romantic side of the forest, she created a simple three tier square cake with gold swirls. Adding a little moss, flowers, and a miniature gold birdcage to adorn the top pulled the look together. She also created a whimsical three tiered round cake embellished with a bark design.

Style & Elegance worked their magic to create the romantic tablescape. It spring to life when two tables were snuggly placed between weathered benches inside the garden. Layers of white linen, scalloped satin overlays, and ribbons blended the feeling of light. Natural elements of moss, roses, orchids, peonies, ferns, fiddleheads, and even a set of antlers created the stunning centerpiece. Small mercury glass vases turned upside down and strands of pearls were twisted into the florals along with tiny vintage mirrors. Antique china was layered on top of a vibrant purple charger that blended well together. Our wedding planner's own gold flatware added that touch of sparkle to the place settings.

The Flapper Bride

2015-02-04T08:48:00.002-05:00

It's hard to rival the glamour and opulence of the 1920s. Filled with sparkle, beauty, and excess it was a time for hard partying and fashion innovation. So it's no wonder that the era still serves as an inspiration to party planners. And no one does the 1920s like Manhattan! Here to prove the city's dominance over the timeless theme, photographer Emma Clearly shows off a stunning Art Deco shoot she created with the help of some visionary vendors:

The shoot took place in the India House which is located in the stone street historic district of NYC. We wanted to create a wedding that might have actually happened in the 1920s as this venue has retained its historic beauty. We had a variety of gorgeous gowns and headpieces that reflected the style of that era. Our wide eyed bride looked perfect in this style as did our handsome groom. Our style was carried throughout the shoot from the casting of the models to the invitations, flowers, and everything in between. My eye is always drawn to the details, whether it be the bride's beautiful eyes or the flowers she holds. I love to stay creative, so this shoot was a joy to put together.
