National Nutrition Council: 2014 Nutrition Month Theme Writing Contest

The 2014 Nutrition Month celebration shall focus on “nutrition in emergencies”. The NNC Technical Committee approved this focus considering theimpact of emergencies and disasters, natural and human-induced, on thenutritional status of affected population groups. Nutrition emergencies refer to situations in which food security is often severely threatened causing increased risk to malnutrition, illness and death. Nutrition in emergencies, on the other hand, refers to key nutrition services that are components of emergency preparedness, response and recovery phases aimed at preventing death and worsening of malnutrition in the affected population, particularly in the most nutritionally-vulnerable groups: infants, children, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers, and older persons.

During emergency and crisis situations, people’s ability to produce, buy and prepare food is severely affected. Such situations result in increased vulnerability to health and food insecurity and consequently, to malnutrition, with infants and young children being the most vulnerable.

In line with this, the National Nutrition Council shall conduct a contest for the 2014 NM theme along nutrition in emergencies.

Philippine Commission on Women Short Film Contest

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

The contest is open to all college students nationwide.

There is no limit of entries per college or university.

Each team must be composed of at least three to (3) to five (5) members. Characters who will appear in the film are not necessarily part of the team members. Appearance of mainstream actors is disallowed.

The contest has five categories:

Women and Disaster Response
Women and Media
Women and Peacebuilding
Women’s Political Participation
Young Women’s Reproductive Health

The films must be able to depict current issues and challenges being faced by women in each category and how they have or can overcome them. It must also highlight the rights and roles of women in responding to these issues as provided under the Magna Carta of Women (R.A. 9710).

Interested teams may join in all five categories. Kindly register by emailing the names, contact numbers, name of college or university indicating also the category or categories they will be participating at irmd@pcw.gov.ph.

Each video entry must be an original composition (i.e. background music). Video must be 2 minute (minimum time) to 3 minutes length only.

Deadline of submission of entries is on or before February 21, 2014. Entries must be hand carried or mailed to the address below with the attached Endorsement Letter duly signed by the Dean of the College.

From the 10 finalists, Smart, InnoPub, and the Sinulog Foundation will pick the Best Sinulog 2014 Photo, Best Sinulog 2014 Selfie, and Best Media/Blogger Entry using the following criteria: composition (50%), relevance (30%), and popularity (20%).
