Good morning all you wonderful followers! Wonderful to have you back again. This week the challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show is Kings and Queens. I decided to do a guy thing and kept it to only Kings. I cut piece of CS roughly the size of a tag and layered Foil Tape over it and then cut it with the Tag and Bookplates die. After that, I ran it though the ultimate guy icon - the diamond plate EF (and then of course I covered it all up). The King of Spades was cut from Kraft-Core Core'dinations and embossed with Tim's Poker Face Texture Fade. I made what I fondly hope looks like a roadside sign using the Styled Labels die to cut chipboard, which was then painted black with a paint dabber and then painted over with a gold paint dabber. When good and dry, I sanded it giving it the worn streaky look. Because it's the only Tim Holts letter die I have, the letters were cut with the Vintage Market die (need to branch out in that tool area - LOL). They were again stacked on a layer of black letters to give them more dimension and covered with Crackle Accents. The vintage pickup truck from The Journey set.was stamped in Gathered Twigs and I cut the license plates out of the paper from the Lost and Found Paper Stash. The piece of vintage ephemera was from a vintage image blog that is now closed down. Sorry, but I've never run across this one anywhere else.

Cutie Pie

Hi there, I'm back again today with a post for Artistic Outpost using their Cutie Pie set. It has some great retro Valentine's Day images. You can see that I had fun with this one. I started by stamping the Be Mine and Cutie Pie sentiments plus the XOXOXO in Real Red on white CS. With a strip of Real Red CS, I clear embossed more of the same. I swiped it with Picket Fence distress stain and rubbed it off the embossing with a damp paper towel. The white heart embossed with the TH BINGO texture fade was actually left over from last week's marathon cupid piece and was still sitting on my desk waiting for its ultimate destiny, which it seems to have found here.

The letters were cut in black and red with the Vintage Market decorative strip die - a little trick I learned from Tim Holtz doing his 12 tags this year. Gluing the darker shade on the bottom just a tad offset gives them so much more depth. They were coated with Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. The strip along the bottom was cut with the Vintage Lace die, one of my current favorite embellishment tools, available in my Etsy shop.

Good morning, friends! So glad you stopped by. I'm here to share my Saturday post for Our Creative Corner. This week, Lori Rider is hosting and she has a lovely sketch for us to follow - it's sure to get your creativity jump started.

Here is my interpretation of the sketch. It seemed that most of the rest of the team had a die that they cut the edges with for the scalloped part. I have just one Punch Around the Page border punch but it's not the right size so I decided to go really shabby and just tear the edges. I thought a couple of weeks ago that I hadn't done that in awhile and jumped at the chance.

I started out with a square piece of music sheet CS and applied Golden Fiber paste fairly thin because I wanted texture but also wanted the music to show through. I used four filigree metal squares from my Etsy shop for the bottom layer of the four shapes. I white embossed them and then sanded the high points to give them a shabby worn enamel feel. The top squares are cut with Spellbinders Labels 1 dies, the smaller squares were stamped with Tim Holtz's Papillon set in Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs. The top square was stamped with a sentiment from Tim Holtz's Stuff to Say set in Victorian Velvet DI. The tiny tribud appliques and the hand dyed seam binding were from the Vintage Valentine's kit I had for sale earlier this month. There's actually one kit left hanging around in my Etsy boutique. Everything was glued securely down with Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium Matte. If you haven't used this stuff, you should try it. It is perfect for gluing down embellies as it dries clear with a MATTE finish - not a shiny one.

Cupid, Let Your Arrow Fly

What a fun challenge we have going for you this week at Simon Says Stamp and Show. We want you to show us your project based on a song. I picked "Cupid, draw back your bow and let your arrow go" by Sam Cooke, listening to it on YouTube while I worked away on my project.

This was a marathon project and I'll skim lightly over the details. The stand is an empty ribbon spool and I covered both top and bottom platforms with designer paper. The core is wrapped with white paper twist ribbon. The flowers were made with the Tattered Pinecone, stamped with Tim's Sheet Music stamp with Vintage Photo distress ink and the branches are from the same die and were gold embossed.

I used Shelly Hickox's Faux Crazed Porcelain technique on the four hearts that I cut from white chipboard. I need practice on this technique. Shelly's comes out awesome, but I was less than pleased with my results. Two things I want to remember the next time I try it is to use much thicker chipboard and less crackle paint. My chipboard warped so badly. I kept straightening it but it just warped again. I put the crackle paint on too thick resulting in cracks that were larger than I preferred and I think the heavy layer of crackle paint contributed to the warping. The arrows are from the Love Stuck die and gold embossed - shot straight into the heart - great aim, Cupid!

The topper is two sided so I made two exact topper pieces and glued them to a dowel which extends down into the stand. I cut thin chipboard with the largest Spellbinders scalloped heart, gave it several coats of Picket Fence Distress Stain, and when dry, ran it through the BINGO texture fade. Then I sanded it with my Sanding Grip. The Paper Rosette was stamped in Vintage Photo with the Tim Holtz Sheet Music stamp and then ink distressed on the edges with more Vintage Photo. That sweet cupid was cut with the Love Stuck die from white chipboard and then ink distressed on the edges with Vintage Photo DI. I liberally smeared him with Claudine Hellmuth's Multi-Medium Matte and sprinkled coarse chunky white glitter over it.

An Artsy Inspiration

Greetings and happy weekend! Welcome to my Saturday post for Our Creative Corner. This week, our hostess Lori Rider has put together a lovely photo inspiration challenge to start our weekend mojo jumpin'. We have to pick a minimum of two items from the photo and tell what it was that inspired us. And a little extra twist is that this is a baby shower photo so you can make a baby card if you wish. No baby on my card, but a sweet little vintage girl from Artistic Outpost. For my piece, I was inspired by the colors and the branch in the inspiration photo. I was also inspired by the flowers in the very back which could be tulips.

This card will be used as my first DT card for Artistic Outpost so I wanted it to be suitably artsy. But now that it's finished, I just don't know if I like it or not, but I did have some fun playing around with my new Tim Holtz Tattered Banners and Distressed Doily dies, which I am now carrying in my Etsy boutique. (And now that it's photographed I see that when I put craft foam behind the main image it made my doily ripple a bit - my tired eyes didn't notice that last night when I was creating this.)

The background is kraft CS covered with a wash of Picket Fence Distress Stain with a little Worn Lipstick and Dried Marigold reinker mixed in. Then I embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder and sanded the top with my new Tim Holtz sanding grip, which I think I am going to love. The images are from Artistic Outpost Lovely Day and were stamped Gathered Twigs DI. I added a bit of coral color with a Copic marker. The branch was cut from chipboard, painted with Expresso Paint Dabber and sanded, a technique I picked up from reading Shelly Hickox's blog. I layered it over a piece of turquoise CS to tie into the inspiration photo. There you have it. Now hope over to Our Creative Corner to see the other masterpieces from the rest of the DT. It's Not a Card

I'm back again, dear bloggy friends, to share my weekly make for Simon Says Stamp and Show. I'm so happy you stopped by to check it out! This week Simon Says Stamp and Show Us Anything But a Card. And of course my talented teamies all have amazing and fantastic projects to share and I have this lame tag - LOL. I thought and thought this week about what I could make, but no fantabulous project came toodling through my brain so I settled for a tag. I set out to make one of Tim Holtz's 12 Christmas tags that I hadn't done. I chose #12, the one with the tissue paper adhered to the base of the tag. His had the Frozen Charlotte doll, which creeps me out so I went for something a bit more shabby chic with the cameo.

I started by cutting a tag with the Tag and Bookplates die from vanilla card stock and stamped it with the Fabulous Flourishes stamp and Sepia Ranger Archival Ink but the stamping didn't show through the tissue paper. After stamping the flourish, I applied Picket Fence Distress Stain as per Lord Tim's instuctions. I don't have Tim's new tissue wrap so I stamped his Sheet Music stamp on regular tissue paper, again using the Sepia Ranger Archival Ink, then ironed it dry with my craft iron and smeared Rock Candy Distress Stickles over the entire tag.

After that I went my own way. I decided to fiddle around with some crinoline and tried cutting it with the Mini Rosette die. It worked great. The folds in the rosettes were actually crisper, but I misted it with a bit of vintage photo DI and water to make it less white and the water relaxed the crisp folds somewhat. I tried gently pulling it into an oval and it worked! I continued adding bits and bots until I had it suitably shabbied up including a chipboard heart that I created using the Spellbinders Classic Hearts die, a little LOVE (from Stuff to Say) banner hand cut because I don't have Tim's die YET, a ruffle made from that wonderful Melissa Frances vintage style crepe paper and and the bottom strip was cut with the Vintage Lace die (which Shelly Hickox totally enabled me to buy because she uses it all the time and makes me drool).

The DT Piece That Wasn't

Good Saturday morning to you! Thanks so much for stopping in to see what I made this week for the challenge at Our Creative Corner. Unfortunately, you won't see this card on the challenge blog today because I messed up and didn't follow the challenge requirements. Our lovely hostess, Vicki Burdick has given us a paper piecing challenge, which I did but the twist is no ribbon and only one (yes, that's right, only one embellishment). Oops, I guess this card doesn't fit the challenge requirements. I was so fixated on the paper piecing part that it totally slipped my mind about the other requirements so I went my merry way throwing embellishments on by the handful. I had it all finished, photographed and loaded onto the team blog yesterday before I realized my mistake. Oh well, maybe I can find other challenges to play in this week.

Here's the deets and I've linked up the products below, many of which are from my Etsy boutique because I sell what I enjoy using for my crafting.

The paper is old, old Stampin' Up DP which I love and use very sparingly. My paper piecing is on the Wendy Vecchi stamped heart from the Love to Make Art set, paper pieced using papers from the same DP set and trimmed out. I die cut white corrugated cardboard with two Sizzix dies - Hearts, Primitive #3 and Tags, Scalloped Combo #2 and edged them with Metallic Gold Acrylic Paint Dabber. Then I added a little red tri-bud applique. I cut another smaller tag and overlaid it, stamping it with a sentiment from the Tim Holtz Stuff to Say set. The flower was cut with the Sizzix Flowers & Vines #2 die and the pleated ribbon by May Arts and sold in my Etsy shop. The metal filigree, also from my shop, was coated with white embossing powder and heat embossed for a worn enamel look. Oh, and the sweet red burlap thread is also from the Etsy shop.

Exciting News!

Just a very quick post this morning to share some exciting news. I was chosen to be a guest designer for Artistic Outpost from February through April. I am super excited about this opportunity! A Victorian Valentine Paper Crafting Kit

As promised, my Victorian Valentine paper crafting kit is now available. They are being sold through my blog on a first-come, first-served basis. I have made 19 kits. I may make more, but will make that call after the first batch is shipped out as they are very labor intensive for me to make.

If you love vintage and love handmade embellishments, then you will love this kit. I am all about handmade - I much prefer the look of handmade chipboard and flowers to the store bought kind. So I have created a collection chocked full of vintage yumminess with mostly handmade elements. Everything that was hand dyed was dyed with the same dye colors so it all color coordinates perfectly. And if you don't do a lot of paper crafting for Valentine's Day, there are still so many sweet vintage elements here that you can use on many other projects.

Here is what you will receive:

A set of 3 die cut chipboard hearts (cut with Spellbinders dies). The hearts are covered with designer paper and then stamped with two stamps (music notes and tole flowers). The edges were sponged with gold acrylic paint and they are embellished with sweet little filigree metal pieces that I altered from bright brass to more of a bronze tone.
Three micro (1") clothes pins, dyed red
Three pieces of filigree metal - one in bronze tone and two that were white embossed
A 3" stick pin and a sweet crystal and glass pearl double dangle (both hand assembled by me)
A small chipboard heart that I covered with gold vintage style glass glitter
A resin cameo and a resin heart

Plus you will receive 3 vintage style post cards and 2 decorative elements with vintage style images. The three post cards have been hand distressed. All five of these were digitally reworked by me.

And there's more. You will receive:

Two yards each of hand dyed crinkled seam binding in Victorian red/burgundy and pink, each wound on a sweet vintage style card
Three handmade felt flowers
A 4" gold foil heart doily

And last but not least, you will also receive:

Three hand dyed ivory Venice lace hearts, the two smaller ones have also been hand painted in variegated rose pink and ivory, plus 3 hand dyed Venise applique tri-buds
18" of hand dyed ivory Venise lace, 1.375" wide

Simon Says It's a Red Letter Day

It's time again for another Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge. This week we are talkin' Red Letter Day. We, at the design team, have been buzzing all week about how to interpret that theme. My team mate Tracy Evans did some research and will be sharing on her blog the original meaning of a red letter day. The team came up with some fun interpretations so be sure to check them out. Being in a Valentine's Day frame of mind, when I thought of red letter, I thought of Valentine's Day and I literally made a red letter - LOL.

For my Valentine's Day wall hanging, I first created my red letter using Crafty Secret's Rosy Wishes embossed with Ranger Superfine Gold Embossing Powder. I read in a craft magazine awhile back about glassine and gesso so I took a glassine bag, crumpled it up and smoothed it back out. Using a wash of 50% water and 50% gesso, I painted the front and let it dry. When dry, I stippled it with full strength gesso. I digitally removed the background with my PhotoShop Elements from this pretty Valentine's girl and printed her on tissue paper, fussy cut her and then glued her to the glassine bag using Claudine Hellmuth's Multi Medium Matte. Then I gold embossed the flourish from Tim Holtz's Urban Grunge set.

I cut chipboard with the Elegant Flourishes die and painted them with Gold Metallic acrylic paint and then gave them two coats of UTEE. I used the Gold Metallic paint dabber around the edges of the white corrugated cardboard. The handmade flowers were cut with the Tattered Florals die and the Sizzix Flowers and Vines #3 die, wet, crumpled, dried and spritzed with Biscotti Perfect Pearls mist.

My bronze filigree corner was heat embossed with white embossing powder and then sanded to give it a worn look. I also rubbed some of the gold acrylic paint over it and then rubbed it off again for a little more aged look.

And finally, I had a little fun with some of my jewelry making supplies and some gold glass glitter. And that about wraps it up for another Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge. An Itty Bitty Sneaky Peeky

Hello and welcome to my weekly Our Creative Corner post. This week, Vicki Burdick is our hostess and she has challenged us to make a shape card - anything but a square or a rectangle. Well, I guess I didn't read the challenge guidelines very well because mine is basically a rectangle. I cut it with the SU Top Note die so it is a little shapely, but not very creative. It's a very small card for me as I am used to working with 5.5x5.5" cards. The base is SU's Confetti Cream and I stamped it with the gingham stamp from the Wendy Vecchi Nature's Art set in Aged Mahogany ink. The second layer was stamped with SU's Elements of Style stamp and then the script stamp from Wendy Vecchni's A Form of Art set, both with Aged Mahogany ink. The chipboard heart was stamped in the same ink with the Elements of Style set and the Tim Holtz music stamp with Vintage Photo.

Now here's the sneaky peeky stuff - many of these sweet vintage elements will be in the Vintage Valentine's Day kit I am creating, including: a gold doily, a set of 3 of the embellished chipboard hearts - this one and two smaller ones, a hand-dyed tri-bud applique, hand dyed seam binding and a handmade felt rose. And those are just a few of the items that will be in the kit. This one is totally loaded with vintage yumminess!! I will have it up for sale on this blog by the end of the weekend. I am initially making 20 kits and they will be sold first-come, first-served. You can email me at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com if you are interested. Something Old, Something New

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by today to see what I have made for our latest Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge. This week we want you to show us something old and something new on your artwork.

I created a little art piece that can be stood, hung or have magnetic strips placed on the back to stick to a refrigerator (jumbo refrigerator magnet - LOL). I have used lots of favorite oldies (Fabulous Flourishs stamp, Elegant Flourishs die, Tag and Bookplates die, LOVE stamp from Stuff to Say, Picket Fence distress crackle paint) on this project, but my"old" highlights are the four wonderful vintage buttons sent to me recently by my friend Marcy Kaminski from the En Papillote Arts blog. She sent me such a beautiful RAK - a huge amount of vintage buttons and lots of yummy lace and crocheted work. The buttons I used here are from that stash.

My "new" is the tattered rose created with her newly acquired Tattered Pinecone die and the seam binding dyed just for this project with a blend of Aged Mahogony and Tattered Rose distress inks. I used the tattered pinecone die to cut out a book page which I then painted with white gesso and then dry brushed some Aged Mahogany distress ink on it. Then later I also dry brushed some gold acrylic paint dabber on the edges of the flower. I wrapped the flower around a toothpick very much like Tim Holtz does in his tutorial for the tattered pinecone, but left it a little looser and also kept squishing it upward so it is flat on the bottom not elongated like the pine cone is.

The flourish and bookplate were cut from chipboard and painted with Picket Fence Crackle Paint. When dry I dry brushed the with Aged Mahogany and again with gold acrylic paint dabber. The background paper is plain old copy paper that I aged by pouring a little coffee into a baking sheet (with sides so it doesn't run off) and coating the paper. Leave a few puddles of coffee on the sheet of paper and put into a 250 degree oven for 15-20 minutes (check often). It comes out looking so cool. I stamped it with the Tim Holtz music stamp and Sepia archival ink before I poured coffee on it. After it came out of the oven I stamped the flourish stamp with Versamark and gold embossed it. I adhered it while it was still a tad damp with Claudine Hellmuth Multi Medium Matte. The seam binding dyed just for this project with a blend of Aged Mahogony and Tattered Rose distress inks.

The image is another of my digital layering experiments. The cherub is from Luna Girl and I erased the surrounding background and layered it over the post card - love the way it came out!

Good morning, blogging friends. I hope you have all had a good week and are ready to ring in the new year. At Our Creative Corner, to kick off the new year, we have a bright and happy challenge for you. Ann Marie Hile is our hostess again this week and she has this gorgeous color challenge for us.

She also wants us to make it a card for a celebration. I created mine for a birthday celebration but it could be used for a New Year's card also. It's a pretty simple card this time, but it still took me 4 hours, mostly because I was tired and my mojo was flat. I couldn't figure out what to do with these colors - I was really stumped. But once I started looking at vintage images, I began to be inspired. I added the yellow background to my vintage card and there it was - all the colors I needed for the challenge, a bit muted but I think I can skate by with them.

Here is the result. Like I said, not very elaborate this week, just a pretty blend of colors and textures. The vintage image is from The Graphics Fairy, the ribbon is brand new in my Etsy shop, but I haven't had time to list it yet - look for it later this weekend. My precious handmade flower for was made with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals die. The stamp is from Crafty Secrets.

A Winter Thank You Project

Hi there, So glad to have you stop by for a visit today! I hope you are enjoying the holidays. I thought this would be a great time for a fun thank you card challenge. We all need thank you cards at this time of the year and frankly, I got a late start on making Christmas art and wanted to keep it going a bit longer. So I created a winter-themed set of thank you library pocket cards. You might remember that I made a set of library pocket Christmas cards at the beginning of the holiday season. I thought they were so cute and that the format would work great for my Christmas thank yous.

Plus I wanted to try my hand at a few very cool techniques I have seen lately. Did you see Tammy Tutterow's frosty debossed snowflakes? Very cool! This is my first attempt and I think I might have scraped off too much crackle paint because the debossed areas aren't very crackly. And of course, you can see the crackles better IRL. The silver snowflake is one of the bronze ones I sell in my Etsy boutique. I altered it by dripping Ranger Silver Alcohol ink mixative on it.

Then Shelly Hickox took the crackle deboss to the next level by applying it to die cut foil tape. Check out her gorgeous tag here. What a seriously cool technique that is! Mine is a little shaky. I made it exactly the way Shelly described and I think I used the exact same materials, but I had a bit of a problem getting the Rock Candy distress paint to stick to the foil tape. It dried and cracked beautifully, but when I handled it, the crackle paint came off in chunks. I added more two more times, but each time it came off. You can see a couple of places where it is missing on the front snowflake. I finally gave up and figured only a card maker would notice it was missing anyway so I can probably use it as is.

Inspired by another amazing technique and tutorial on Shelly Hickcox's blog, I tried her Faux Mercury Glass technique. I was having problems with my heat gun so I only applied one coat of UTEE to this guy. It really needs a second coat to get the glassy depth to it. But it was a lot of fun to do and something I will definitely try again ( I have a new heat gun coming from Stampin' Up so will give it another try next week).

I mixed a bit of the silver alcohol ink mixative with some Stickles for a silvery bling on the corrugated cardboard holly leaves. It really doesn't look great in the photo, but it looks quite pleasing IRL.

I used some lovely winter bird vintage images from LunaGirl. With my Photoshop Elements, I erased the 'Merry Christmas' from each image and added 'Thank You' to each card. They were printed on my home printer and distressed with Vintage Photo distress ink.

I used a library card stamp from PaperTrey Ink to stamp the back of the tag. My thank you message will be written on that side.

This was such a fun little project. You can make these very easily. I used a free template from Mirkwood Designs to trace and cut the pocket and you can download a sheet of library cards from Pine is Here. There's some scissor work involved, but I think in the end you will find it very enjoyable to make. These sweet little cards will fit perfectly into an A2 size envelope.

Wishing You a Merry Christmas

Good morning and Merry Christmas! Just a moment for a quick post before I run to my kitchen to start making pies and other Christmas fare. Here is my very late submission for Our Creative Corner. Sharon is our hostess this week and she wants us to be inspired by a holiday decoration in our home. My tag is in spired by a pair of lovely vintage style reindeer that sits on my hearth at Christmastime.

Just Playing Around

Good morning and thanks for stopping by at this very busy time of the year. Only three more days 'til Christmas - oh my, so many things to do yet! But despite all the crazy rushing here and there, I had to do a little creating. I hadn't made a project in almost a week and this is actually the result of working an hour here, 30 minutes there, whenever I could sit a few minutes in my craft cave. I finally finished it up before bed last night. I've been playing around in PhotoShop Elements again, learning more about removing backgrounds and layering. I created the vintage image with a vintage toy shop ad from The Graphics Fairy and a sweet little girls image from my LunaGirl CD. I removed most of the background from the girls, leaving a bit of shadowing/halo effect and then digitally layered it over the toy store ad. I printed it and distressed it with Vintage Photo DI.

The main panel of the card was made using the double distress rusted enamel technique that Tim Holtz showed on Tag #9. On white CS, I clear embossed the snowflakes, then sponged the entire panel with Pine Needles DI. Then I clear embossed the entire panel and finally sponged the whole thing with Vintage Photo DI for a rusted enamel effect. It's one of my very favorite Holtz techniques.

My decorative element was created using the Carved Ornaments die and run through the Snow Flurries embossing folder. I used Judi-Kins Egyptian Gold EP for a bit of sparkle. The flower was made using SU Cherry Cobbler CS cut with the Sizzix Flowers and Vine #3 die, the holly leaves and tiny flourish were cut from Kraft Core'dinations using the Festive Greenery die. The snowflake was cut with a Sizzix die. The Merry Christmas sentiment was from Tim's Holiday Minis stamp set, stamped in Vintage Photo DI. The little snowflake embellie in the left corner was cut with the SU Northern Flurries die. Oh, and I almost forgot - I broke down and bought Tim's Vintage Lace die and used it to create that sweet border. I bet I'll get tons of use out of that die - it is so me!

This week at Simon Says Stamp and Show the challenge is to make a Tim Holtz inspired tag. I have to say that I have had such a wonderful time this year being inspired by Tim and playing along with his tag challenge. This was the first year I have participated and I really didn't know what I was missing! I was really rocking for the first 8 days. I kept up pretty well but then life intervened and I had to put them on hold. But I do intend to finish before the close of his challenge at the end of the month. And I finished one more here with my Simon Says DT piece.

The main technique demonstrated for Tim's #10 tag was a tape transfer technique. I gave it a good try, but it didn't work for me. I printed a vintage Santa image on my home printer since I don't have Tim's Seasonal Paper Stash. I applied clear tape, burnished it and then put it under warm water and rubbed the paper gently - it all came off - right down to the tape. No image whatsoever remained on the tape. Okay, I thought, I shouldn't have used no name generic packing tape so I searched around the house and came up with a roll of clear 3M packing tape. Ah, the good stuff, surely I would be successful on the second try...or NOT. And yeah, it was the "or NOT" situation the next time also. I concluded that for this technique, you need to use Tim's papers or at least a professionally printed paper. Not to be discouraged, especially since I had DT deadline for a tag coming up, I printed the Santa image for a third time and affixed it to my fragment charm the normal way.

For my background, I stamped a Wendy Vecchi script stamp with Ranger Archival Jet Black ink and then sponged it with Festive Berries and Pine Bough distress inks from the new limited edition seasonal distress ink set. Then I misted some homemade glimmer mist onto my craft sheet and smooshed the tag face down into it a few times, then dried it with my heat tool. I cut a panel using the Styled Labels die to mount my fragment charm on. A couple of accent pieces were made using Core'dinations Kraft Core paper and the Hardware Findings die. I also used the Core'dinations Kraft Core paper to cut a bit of greenery with the Festive Greenery die. The sentiment panel was cut with a Spellbinders die and gold heat embossed twice. After the second embossing while it was still hot, I stamped the Believe stamp from Holiday Minis into the gold embossing. You need to ink your stamp with Versamark or other embossing ink first though, so it doesn't stick to the hot embossing. I finished the piece of by rubbing a bit of gesso over the tag background and the corrugated cardboard.

Christmas Confection

Good morning bloggy friends! So glad to see you back. It's been sort of a quiet week in blogland, with Tim's 12 finished and everyone turning their attention to preparations for Christmas. I had hoped to finish the 12 tags, but alas, no time either! Maybe next week.

This week at Our Creative Corner, Anne Marie Hile is our hostess again and she has a color challenge for us. We are to make a holiday project with these colors plus some sparkle. I decided to make a little candy holder gift with a Starbucks bottle that reminds me of a vintage milk bottle I really gussied it up - maybe a bit too much - you decide.

I started with a a doily in front and one in the back as bases - one for my vintage angel image and one for my crinoline poinsettia. I used a piece of vintage style song book paper "Hark the Herald Angels Sing". It's a photo copy because I didn't want to use the original. I aged it with Vintage Photo DI and clear embossing powder.

On the poinsettia side, I used the Tim Holtz Vintage Marketplace letters, layering the light pink over the blue and then glittered the letters and brushed white gesso over the twine for a rustic look.

I created a little charm with a silver glass glittered star and some glass pearls from my jewelry making supplies. A light blue rosette edged with silver embossing and a bit of silver tinsel adorn the cap. I filled the bottle with silver and red wrapped Hershey's Kisses, which unfortunately you can't see through all the embellishments.

12 Tags of Christmas Funkie Junkie Style - The Winner is...

Rusted Enamel and PEACE

Hello and welcome back! I'm kicking back into gear to finish up Tim's 12 tags. I had to take a brief stop over the weekend to attend to other things in my life, but now I'm excited to be back to work using Tim's tags as inspirations. Tim's Tag #9 featured a technique he calls double distressed rusted enameling. His rusted enamel technique has to be one of my all-time favorites of his techniques. His new double distressed rusted enameling looks sensational on his tag, but it doesn't really pop on mine. I think it's all about how the rubber meets the road, so to speak. His stamp had more rubber than the ones I used and consequently the double enameling is much more visible. I just really love the texture of this technique and the way the distress ink soaks down in between all the minute fissures.

I started with a vanilla tag and stamped the evergreen tree and the dove with the new seasonal distress ink color Iced Spruce and then clear embossed the images. Then I sponged the entire tag with Old Paper distress ink and clear embossed. The Tim Holtz distress inks are also embossing inks so I didn't have to use a special embossing ink after sponging with Old Paper. Now the fun part - I sponged the entire tag liberally with Vintage Photo DP to give it the rusted effect. I made a little banner sort of thingy with vintage style crepe paper to mount my star/rosette/holly element on. I thought it looked a little plain so I added some of the filigree metal I sell in my Etsy Boutique. The "holly berries" started life as white half pearls that I colored red with Copic marker #29 Lipstick Red. The PEACE sentiment was cut with the Vintage Market die from Kraft Core card stock. I coated them with Glossy Accents per Tim's tag and also offset darker letters for a first layer to give them more depth, The larger holly is from the Festive Greenery die and the smaller one is from a Martha Stewart punch.

Through the Looking Glass - Projects With Depth

Hello and happy Monday! Thanks so much for stopping back by today. I know everyone is rushing around at this time of year so I am really thrilled that you took the time to stop by to see what I have to share for our Monday Simon Says Stamp and Show project. This week our theme is Through the Looking Glass and we want to see your projects with depth and dimension.

I was probably one of the few crafters left on the planet who hadn't yet done a Tim Holtz configuration box so I thought it was time to get with the program. With a bit of trepidation, I selected the smallest set of configuration boxes and didn't have a clue how I was going to decorate and embellish it. And I've been watching and drooling this past week as the rest of the design team turned in photos of their projects. But I still didn't have a concrete idea of what to do with mine. I searched my closets, shopped at the craft stores, even hit Walgreens and Big Lots looking for tiny figurines. I actually did find quite a few, but nothing that excited me. So I came home and started making my own.

I found a wonderful video tutorial on the web to make a Christmas tree with a flower punch, taking inspiration from Tracy MacDonald, a recent winner over at Our Creative Corner. I used the holly leaves from the new Tim Holtz Festive Greenery die to cut the tree branches and covered tiny wooden blocks with vintage style paper to create the gifts under the tree and used a small spool as a tree stand.

I had some tiny toy blocks that were primary colors. I painted them with white gesso and when dry, inked the edges with Vintage Photo ID. The flower was cut with the Tattered Florals die and run through the Textile Cuttlebug embossing folder, then coated with UTEE. I rolled up a paper cone and added a few tiny Prima paper roses and a bit of eyelash yarn.

I made a little picture frame with Spellbinders dies and added a charming image of a little girl. I wanted it to look like enamel so I ran it through a Cuttlebug embossing folder and double heat embossed it with UTEE. I coated the bronze key with white embossing powder and heated it, then rubbed it off on the wear areas. The bottom compartment has a white pinecone made with the Tattered Pinecone die and I added a bit of sparkly gold embossing.

Each cube was lined inside with vintage style paper gold embossed with different Christmas icons. The outside of each cube was lined with paper stamped with a Tim Holtz music sheet stamp. All that "paperwork" took forever! The main back panel is vanilla cardstock embossed with the Tim Holtz Snow Flurries embossing folder and gold embossed with a sparkly gold EP.

This was a fun project, although a bit labor intensive. And I learned that you don't have to buy a lot of stuff. Just make a little collection of bits and pieces from around your home. I hope you will join in this week with some sort of dimensional project. It's a perfect time to create a little home decoration for the holidays. Tim's Tag 8 Meets Our Creative Corner

Good morning and welcome to my Saturday post for Our Creative Corner. Our hostess this week is Anne Marie Hile and she has challenged us to make something with Ruffles. Don't you love it when challenges line up? I was so excited when I realized that I could combine Tim's Steampunk tag with the Ruffles challenge for this week's Our Creative Corner. And here you have it - a sweet little ruffled dress form complete with steampunk style wings with ruffles made from my favorite vintage-style crepe paper! I had SO much fun with this one. Really, I was grinning the whole time because I just loved working with all this girly vintagy stuff. And I finally took the plunge and made some of Shelly Hickcox's faux crazed porcelain. (I am a huge Shelly Hickcox fan and if you haven't visited her blog, you MUST. She has incredible art and techniques - always a delightful inspiration).

When Tim published his Tag #8, my heart sank. While I enjoy looking at steampunk style, it is not a style that I have mastered. But then I realized I didn't have to do the more masculine style of steampunk, I could make a Christmas angel style steampunk piece and whoa, I could even give the dress form ruffles and nail my OCC challenge at the same time. And in these fleeting days before Christmas, who doesn't want to combine anything and everything and save time! A double bang for my time. With Tim's tag for inspiration, I created this piece, but I did not use acrylic paint to stamp. I have tried that resist technique over and over and over again. It never works for me and now I won't even bother to try. I can't get enough of the white acrylic paint to stick when I stamp it and then there is nothing there to "resist". So I just white embossed for my resist technique. I used stamps from Tim Holtz Mini Classics and Curiosities for my resist stamping and then overstamped everything with the background stamp from Papillion in Frayed Burlap to give it a little pattern. Then I sponged the entire tag with Antique Linen DI. The dress form is from the Haberdashery set and the wings are grungeboard from the Grungeboard Elements set, painted with Picket Fence Crackle Paint, then sponged with Antique Linen DI and finally coated with Ranger UTEE.

The bow is made from sparkly snowflake tulle that I bought at Jo-Ann's last week when I needed a festive fix. Ditto the green pipe cleaners and I made the ornament with my jewelry supplies. I think that about covers all the deets and I am listing my supplies/tools with the handy dandy In-Links Link Manager that I just signed up for (LOVE IT). Let me know if you have any questions. Tattered Tree - Tim's Tag #7

While I wasn't crazy over Tag #6, I love the earth colors of Tim's Tag #7. I followed his process and techniques pretty closely. I love kraft glassine, but have never used alcohol inks on it. I know you can't stamp on it with regular stamping ink but I never thought about colorizing it with alcohol inks. I followed his directions and it worked wonderfully. I loved what he did with the holly leaves but I wanted to change up a bit so I broke out the new pine tree die I just bought. The "Winter Fun" and subtle snowflakes are Stampin' Up rub ons that have been in my stash for the past two years. Nothing is much of a mystery here. I did put a little gold mesh under the burlap. It twinkles pretty nicely IRL. Let me know if you have any questions.

Tinsel Tag - Tim's #2

Eeeuuuwww, I thought this one would be so easy. I loved the background and colors of Tim's tag and I am partial to using textiles. So I thought #2 would be a walk in the park but it didn't play out that way. I waited to do this tag because (here's my dirty little secret - on the first day of Tim's tags, I jumped off the cliff and ordered 5 of his BIGZ dies) this ornament die was on order and I thought it would work great for embossing the canvas. And it did. I don't have the sticky back canvas, so I just glued canvas to chipboard and when completely dry, die cut it. Then I embossed it with the Snow Flurries embossing folder and sponged it with Broken Twigs DI. I don't have any of the seasonal kraft resist paper so I made my own - no problem there - stamped Tim's music stamp on a kraft tag and clear embossed a couple of images - it came out fine. I swiped it with Picket Fence distress stain according to the Master's instructions - that worked out pretty okay too. The Perfect Pearls mist didn't create droplets like Tim's did - maybe I had the wrong shade - I used Biscotti - but it did make a nice shine.

Then what to do?? I had a great lump of blaaaaah. So I snazzed it up a bit with gold tinsel pipe cleaners I found at Jo-Ann's and then plopped one of my shabby crinoline poinsettias (handmade from crinoline and the Tattered Florals die) on it, which really ratcheted up the zing factor. And there you have it. I'm interested to know if you like it. I do like it, but not sure if everyone will. It has a bit of the retro garishness about it, sort of like Tim's #6 metal piece; not something everyone will appreciate. Thanks so much for stopping by and for all your lovely comments!
