D.E.S.I.G.N. is a fascinating review of 69 of the most
innovative household items from the past 150 years - from the classic to the
most crazy.

One
of the things we do really love about D.E.S.I.G.N. is that the illustrations
are appealing to children, but the author hasn't dumbed down the information.
There are 69 of the most innovative household items from the past 150 years in
D.E.S.I.G.N. and we had no idea that most of them even existed. The
illustrations are quirky, every page is full of bold colours, and there are
diagrams showing you how each object works or is supposed to be used. There is
a handy key at the beginning of the book showing you what each of the symbols
mean throughout the book. These symbols on each page tell you what the object
is made of, what it can be used for and which country the designer/inventor is
from. There's also an index in the back to help you find your favourite objects.
D.E.S.I.G.N. is a book that you can come back to again and again, and discover
something new each time. It's the perfect book for those inquisitive children,
especially boys, who want to know how things work, and adults will love it just
as much as children. One of our favourite nonfiction books for children of
2011.

If you want to take a look at the presentation

a system of chairs designed by James
Irvine for Arper and presented at Salone
del Mobile 2012 in Milan, received the 2013 iF Design Award 2013 for the
“Product Design” category.

For over 60 years the German iF Design Award – considered all over the world as
a quality design label – has promoted the best international design in three
main fields: product, communication and packaging. This year's jury, consisting
of international experts and designers belonging to different fields, has
selected the best design projects, out of the over three thousand projects
submitted, on the basis of their background, ability to interpret future trends
and several year’s experience.

The Junocollection met the criteria established by iF to define “good design”: a
daring, intelligent, passionate yet reliable and ironic design, capable of
embodying human qualities.

Juno, together with the other awarded products, will be displayed in the iF
exhibitions held at the Hannover Exhibition Centre and Hamburg HafenCity, as
well as in the iF onlineexhibition. The award ceremony will be held in the BMW Welt in Munich on
February 22nd 2013.

The Furniture Ombudsman (TFO),
the Stevenage-based organisation which helps to raise standards and specialises in providing Alternative
Dispute Resolution solutions for consumers and retailers in the furniture and
home improvement industry, has published its annual review for 2012. <u9:p></u9:p>

This year was the 20th anniversary for the
body, which was established in 1992 with the Office of Fair Trading.
Since then over 40,000 cases have been referred to the Ombudsman and the office
handles around 1300 complaints every year. Of those cases, 53% were
upheld (in full or in part) in favour of the consumer, whilst 47% were upheld
in favour of the retailer.<u9:p></u9:p>

Kevin Grix, Head of The Furniture Ombudsman, said that
this year has seen higher awareness than ever before of TFO and its role.
“Our message this year has been very strong,” he said. “Consumers are
empowered more than ever to choose who they shop with, and know their rights.

In
the Frankfurt Stock Exchange district, Wiesbaden architects 3deluxe have
transformed the office floor of the turn-of-the-century Frankfurt branch of the
international design agency Syzygy into a futuristic working environment.
HI-MACS® acrylic stone has been used to create a flowing linear design
delivering a striking space-creating effect on the interior of the central
reception area and adjoining waiting area.

The
organic design is a clear contrast to the surrounding original architecture,
creating an exciting juxtaposition of old and new within the space.

A
22m long curve delineates the space created for the new working environment,
which has specially made furniture and fittings made of HI-MACS® Natural Acrylic
Stone. The organic shapes create the atmosphere of a room-within-a-room, its
communicative and creative openness expresses the company‘s forward-thinking
culture.

of the Frame Moooi Award are thrilled to announce the juror for this year’s
competition: Jana Scholze, Curator of Contemporary Furniture and Product
Design at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

‘We are excited to join forces with Jana and the Victoria and Albert Museum – a
leading international design institution – for the 2013 edition of the award,’
says Robert Thiemann, editor-in-chief of Frame. ‘As a curator and expert, Jana
is a neutral authority with an eye for the most inventive, fresh, modern and
creative designs. We look forward to seeing who she selects as the 2013 award
winner.’

As the Frame Moooi Award juror, Scholze will select the top 10 finalists who
will be invited to the grand finale party during Milan’s Salone del Mobile in
April, 2013. Here the award will culminate at a cocktail event on 10 April,
where the grand prize winner will be announced – and walk away with the
€25,000 cash prize. Scholze will also be part of a panel discussion and
Q&A session on 11 April, where press and public will be invited to ask her
about the process of selecting a winner.

‘The Frame Moooi Award is as exceptional and meaningful as it is open, specific
and generous,’ says Scholze. ‘The aim to celebrate and promote innovation is
convincingly supported by inviting simply everyone with a suitable project. The
significant prize acknowledges not only excellence in design thinking and
making, but encourages both designers and the creative industries alike.’

Scholze has worked on a number of major exhibitions, including Cold War
Modern: Design 1945-1970 (2008), plus she often publishes and teaches
