ආදරනීය ප්‍රියන්ත ද සිල්වා,

කාලෙකට පස්සෙ මම ඔයාට ලියන්න හිතුවා. අද නත්තල් දවස. ඒත් අපි නත්තල් සමරන අය නෙමේ. අපි හොඳ බෞද්ධයෝ නේ. ඒත් නත්තල් දවස ගැන පුංචි සතුටකින් හිත පිරිලා.
ප්‍රියන්ත,
මතකද ඉස්සර පුංචිකාලෙ, අපිට නත්තල් නැති උනත්, කාටවත් නොකියාම රෑට අවදිවෙලා, නැත්නම් උදේට අවදිවෙලා කොට්ටෙ යට , මෙට්ටෙ යට බලපු හැටි. ඒ නත්තල් සීය ඇවිත් මොනා හරි දීල ගිහින් කියල ඇති කියලා හිතලයි. ඒ ත් කවදාවත් එහෙම දෙයක් සොයා ගන්න නම් තිබ්බෙ නෑ. නමුත් ප්‍රියන්ත, අපිට ඒ ගැන තරහක් නම් තිබ්බෙ නෑ. තිබුනෙ කියා ගන්න බැරි දුකක් විතරමයි. ඔයාටවත් මටවත් පුංචි හරි තෑග්ගක් දෙන්න කවුද හිටියේ ? ඒත් කවම දාකවත් වෙනත් කෙනෙක්ගේ කිසීම දෙයක් හිතින්වත් ගන්න සොර සිතක් නැතිව හිටපු හැටි මතක් වෙනකොට මට ඔය ගැන හරීම ආඩම්බරයි ප්‍රියන්ත. අවුරුදු 12ක් පාසල් ගිහින් අවසන් වුනත්, උසස්පෙල අවසන් කරද්දීත් , ජීවිතේටම කාල තිබ්බ චොකලට් ගනන 12 ක් වත් උනේ නෑ නේද ? ඒත් අද පොඩි එකෙක් ගත්තොත් මාසෙකටම චොකලට් 12 කට වඩා කාල තියෙනවා.
ආදරණීය ප්‍රියන්ත,
මතකද ඉස්සර,
උසස්පෙල දක්වාම හැම තිස්සේම ඇඳගෙන හිටියේ පාසල අඳින සුදු ඇඳුමමයි. ශිෂ්‍යත්ව පංතියේ සුදු ඇඳගෙන ආපු එකම ළමයා මමයි කියලයි මට හිතෙන්නේ. ඇයි මේ ළමයා හැම තිස්සේම ඉස්කෝලෙ ඇඳුම ම ඇඳන් ඉන්නේ කියලා සමහර ඇන්ටිලා අපේ අම්මගෙන් ඇහුවේ පුරුද්දට වගේ. අම්ම කිව්වා , පුතා පට අඳින්න කැමති නෑ කියලා. ඒක ඇත්ත. ඒත් ඇත්ත ඒක නෙමේ. ඔයා ප්‍රියන්ත, පාට අඳින්න කැමති නෑ කිව්වේ, අම්මට තවත් වියදමක් ඔයා නිසා සිදුවෙන එක නවත්තන්න කියාලා දන්නේ මම විතරයි. ඔයාට තනි නෑ ප්‍රියන්ත, දැන් මම ඉන්නවනේ ඔයාට හැම තිස්සේම. ඔයාට කවුරුවත් ඕනෙනෑ. එයාල ඔක්කෝම එන්නේ මොකක් හරි දෙයක් කරගන්න, ප්‍රයෝජනයක් ඔයාගෙන් ගන්න මිසක් ඔයාට තියෙන ආදරේට නෙමෙයි ප්‍රියන්ත. මම දන්නවා ඔයා කාටවත් ‍රැවටිලාවත්, ‍රැවටෙන්නෙවත් නැති බව. ඔයා අනිත් අයට තියෙන ආදරේට, හිතවත් කමට හැම දෙයක්ම කරල දුන්නාම, එයාල හිතයි ඔයා ‍රැව‍ටුනා කියලා. ඒත්, මම විතරයි දන්නෙ ප්‍රියන්ත, ඔයා ඒ අයව සතු‍ටු කරන්න කරපු කැපවීම, කිසිම දෙයක් ආයෙත් බලාපොරොත්තු නොවීම. එහෙම කියන්නේ, ඔයා කරපු උදව් ඔයාටම අමතක වෙලා තියෙන බව මම හොඳින්ම දන්න නිසා.

මම අද ලියන්නේ කාලෙකටම පස්සෙ හිංදා, නැත්නම් පලමු වතාවට හිංදා, මට මුල - මැද - අග පටලැවෙනවා. ඒත් ඔන්න ඔහේ මගෙ ඔළුවට එනදේ ලියනවා ප්‍රියන්ත.

ඔයාගෙ අම්මට දැන් අසනීපයි නේද ? ඇවිදින්නත් බෑ නේද ? මම දන්නවා ප්‍රියන්ත, අම්මගෙන් උදව් ගත්ත, අම්ම සල්ලිවත් පංතිගාස්තු විදියට ගන්නෙ නැතිව ඉස්සර උගන්නපු අයවත් අම්ම බලන්නවත් එන්නෙ නැතිලු නේද ? මට තේරෙනවා ප්‍රියන්ත ඔයා මේව ගැන ගොඩාක් කලකිරීමෙන් ඉන්නෙ කියලා. දුක් වෙන්න එපා රත්තරං, මම ඔයාගෙම ගාව ඉන්නවනේ.

ජීවිතේ කියන එක කොයිවෙලාවෙ නැතිවෙනවද ? මොනා වෙනවද කියන්න අපි දන්නෙ නෑ. පුලුවන් තරම් සතුටින් ඉන්න ප්‍රියන්ත. මම දන්නවා ඔයා ඉස්සරත් තාමත් ඉන්නේ හැමතිස්සේම හිනා මූනක් මවාගෙන. එහෙම හිටියේ, අඬන්න බැරි මූන හිනාවකින් හංගගන්න කියලා දන්නේ මම විතරයි පැටියෝ. ලෝකෙම අය විතරක් නෙමෙයි, ඔයාගෙන් ඉගන ගත්ත අය පවා, සමහර වෙලාවට ඔයාට අපහස කලා. ඒත් ප්‍රියන්ත ඔයා කවදාවත් එයාල එක්ක තරහ උනේ නෑ. වෛරයක් දැනුනේ නෑ. හැමදාම ආශිර්වාද කලා යහපතක්ම වේවා කියලා. ඔයා හරීම ආදරණීයයි ප්‍රියන්ත. අන්න ඒකයි ඔයාගෙන් ගන්න පුළුවන් හැමදෙයක්ම අරගෙන අනිත අය ඔයාටම වේදනාවක් දීල යන්නේ. වේදනාව කියන දේ අපිට අලුත් දෙයක් නෙමෙයි නේද ?

මම දන්නවා පැටියෝ, ප්‍රියන්ත, ඔයා කවමදාක්වත් දුකක් දැනුනාම නම් දැන් අඬන්නේ නෑ කියලා. දුක කියන්නේ සාමාන්‍ය දෙයක් නේ අපිට. ඒත් පුංචිම පුංචි සතුටක් දැනුනත්, නෙතට කඳුලක් උනන එක නම් නවත්තන්න බෑ නේද ප්‍රියන්ත ? සතුට කියන දේ අපිට පුරුදුනෑනේ. ඒකයි ඒ. ඔයාගේ ලොකුම ප්‍රාර්ථනාව මම දන්නවා, ඒ, මේ ලෝකේ කිසිම හතුරෙකුටවත් ඔයාට දැනුන තරම් දුකක් දෙන්න එපා කියන එක. ඔව්, ඇත්ත, වෙන කෙනෙක් නම් ඔයා වගේ ජීවත් වෙන්නෙ නෑ. ඔයා ඉස්සර කරන්න ගියපුවා මෙතන ලියන්න ඕනෙ නෑ නෑනේද මගේ ප්‍රියන්ත.

මතකද පුංචිම කාලේ ? පුළුවන් නම් කියන්න සතුටින් හිටපු දවසක් ? බෑ නේද ප්‍රියන්ත ?
ඕනෙනම් ඔයා කියාවි එදා, පාසලෙන් ඔයා විතරක් ශිෂ්‍යත්වේ සමත් උන දවස කියලා. ඔව්, ඒ හැර එක දවසක් මට කියන්න ප්‍රියන්ත. ඒත් මට ඔයා ගැන හරීම සතු‍ටුයි ප්‍රියන්ත. අද ඔයාව හමුවෙන්න කවුරු ආවත් ආයෙත් යන්නෙ නම් සතුටින් නෙමෙ නේද ? ඔයා ඔයාට පුලුවන් තරමටත් වඩා එයාලව සතුටින් තියන්න ඔයා ගන්න උත්සාහය හරීම පුදුමයි ප්‍රියන්ත. කොහෙන් කාපු ටකරන්ද කිව්වලු නේද ? කවදාවත් නොලබපු දෙයක්, කොහොමද ප්‍රියන්ත ඔයාට පුලුවන් උනේ අනිත් අයට දෙන්න, වෙන කාටත් වඩා ?

ඉස්සර,
ඔයා පාඩම් කල හැටි මතකද ප්‍රියන්ත ? අපිට කොහෙන්ද ඉස්සර විදුලිය. කනප්පුවේ ලාම්පුව තියගෙන පාඩම් කරද්දී, ලාම්පු දැල්ලට කීවතාවක් ඔයාගෙ ඉස්සරහ කොන්ඩේ ගස් නම් පිච්චුනාද, බාගෙට නින්ද යද්දි. ඉස්සර, නයිට් රයිඩර්, ටීවී එකෙන් බලන්න, මොන තරම් ආසාවෙන්ද චූටි බයිසිකලය පැදගෙන දන්න කියන , දුර තියෙන ගෙදරකට ගියේ. ඒත්, සමහර දවස් වලට, ඔයා ඉ‍ඳෙද්දීම ඒ අය රූපවාහිනියේ, අනිත් චැනල් එක දාද්දී මොන තරම් දුකක් දැනුනද ? තිබ්බ එකම සතුටත් බාගෙට බලද්දී නවතිනකොට නවතිද්දී, ඒත් ඔයා කවුරුවත් ගැන වෛරයක් ගත්තේ නෑ නේ ද පැටියෝ ?
ප්‍රියන්ත, මගේම ආදරණීය ප්‍රියන්ත,
කලින් ගෙදර මතකද ? ඔව්, ඔයාට කිසිම දෙයක් අමතක වෙන්නෙ නෑ නේද ?
කුඩ ගල් වලින් හදලා තිබ්බ නිසාත්, සිවිලිමෙන් කෑල්ලක් ගැලවිලා බිම වැටිලා තිබ්බ නිසාත්, හිටපු ගමන් බිත්ති දිගේ "සූස්' ගාල, වැලි වගේ දුර්වල කොටස් බිමට එන නිසාත්, අපේ ලොකු නෑදෑයින් කවුරුවත් ආවේ නෑ. ආවත් හිටියේ නෑ. හිටියත් මාව ගනන් ගත්තේ නෑ. බල්ලෙක් වගේ එදා හැදෙද්දී, හිතට සහනයක් උනේ, එකම සහනය උනේ දයා රෝහණ අතුකෝරාල මහත්මයාගේ, මනෝවිද්‍යාත්මක පොත් පත තමයි. උසස් පෙළ පාඩම් කරද්දීත්, කිසිම වෙනසක් උනේ නෑ. හැමදාම වගේ හෙම්බිරිසාව නේ ද ? ඔව්, අමිහිරි මතකය මම අවදි කරන්නම් රත්තරං.
පාඩම් මේසෙත්, ඇඳත්, නිදන කාමරෙත් , සාලෙත් උනේ ඔයාගෙ කාමරය නේද ප්‍රියන්ත. ඒත් දවල්ට වහලෙ මුදුනින් අහස පේනවා. සමහරදාට, කුඩා හිල් වලින් වැ‍ටුන ආලෝකයෙන්, වලාකුළු අනිත් පැත්තට යනවා දකිනවා පොලවේ. ෂා... ආලෝකෙ ගැන පාඩමත් අත්දැකීමෙන්ම .....
ඒත් ඇඳට උඩින් නම් ඉටිකොල ගහලා තිබේ, වැස්ස වැ‍ටුනොත් නොතෙමී ඉන්න නේ ද ? ඒත් වහින දවස් වලට රෑ දෙගොඩහරිජාමේ නැගිටලා, ඉටිරෙද්දේ පිරුන වතුර, කොස්සෙ මිටෙන් ඇනලා, බේසමට දැම්මේ නැත්තම් ඉතින් ප්‍රියන්ත සොරිම තමයි ඇඳට නේද ?
ඒත් හැමදාම පීනස තිබ්බේ, මේ සීතල උහුල ගන්න අහිංසක ඔයාට 100% බැරි උන නිසා වෙන්න ඇති නේද ප්‍රියන්ත.
වැසිකිලියට ගියත් පැයකින් එන්න වෙන්නෙ නෑ.. මතකද.. ඉදල් මිටක් තිබ්බ ඉස්සරහ තියලා, ඒක අරගෙන දහ පහලොස් වතාවක් ඇනලා ඇනලා තමයි, වතුර ගහන්න ඕනේ. නැත්නම් ඉතින් වැසිකිළියම ඉවරයි. ඔයා මේ ඔක්කෝම කියනවට ඒ තරම් ම කැමති නෑකියලා මම දන්නවා පැටියෝ.
(ඔයාට පැටියෝ කියලා කියන්න මම විතරයි නේ. එත් මට මතකයි, ඉස්සර වහලේ බට වගයක් දාන්න ආපු බාසුන්නැහේ කෙනෙකුත් පැටියෝ කිව්වා, වාසියට නේ ද ?)

මගේම ආදරනීය ප්‍රියන්ත, මම දැන් ගොඩාක් කතා කලා ඔයාට.
ඒත් ඕනෙම දේ ගැන කතා කලේ නෑ. ඔයාගේ කැමතිම, තහනම් වචනය, ආදරය ? ඔන්න ඔන්න, තරහ ගියානේ ද ? ප්‍රියන්ත. කමක් නෑ. ජීවිතේ තව ටිකයි නේ. ඒකත් මෙහෙමම ඉඳිමු නේද ?
මම කලිනුත් කිව්වානේ, ඔයා ප්‍රියන්ත, දැන් දුකේදි අඬන්නේ නෑ කියලා. නිතරම ලැබෙන දේක විශේෂත්වයක් නැති නිසා වෙන්න ඇති නේ ද ? ප්‍රියන්ත. ඒත් මම දන්නවා හොඳටම , ඔයාට අඬන්නෙ නැතුව නම් ඉන්න බැරි වෙන දවස. ඒ ඔයාට කවදාවත් නොලැබුන දෙයක් ලැබෙන , ජීවිතේ සතුට ලැබෙන දවස! ඒත්...

Ten years after introducing Maybach, Daimler announced it would shutter the super-luxury brand by 2013.

It wasn’t a surprise. Maybach never fully established an identity that could compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley. And the brand lost money each year in its existence, according to Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche.

That hasn’t kept the $1.4 million Maybach Landaulet down, at least in some circles. Madonna and Jay-Z are known lovers of the line. And along with the famously outré $2.6 million Bugatti Veyron Supersport 16.4 and the $1.7 million Koenigsegg Agera R, the Landaulet made this year’s list of the most expensive cars on the market today.

Behind the Numbers
To compile our list of the most expensive cars going on sale next year, we scoured price lists from well-known manufacturers like Bugatti, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini, and from lesser-known companies like Leblanc and Shelby Super Cars. Some otherwise high-end entrants (Spyker, McLaren) didn’t quite have the stuff to make our list. Others, like Koenigsegg, had a few models that might have qualified, so we limited our list to one car from each manufacturer. We limited the cars on this list to new models, rather than vintage, and evaluated their prices based on MSRP, not auction or off-the-record sales.

What makes cars like the $970,000 SSC Tuatara and $1 million Hennessey Venom GT so expensive? A combination of rare and high-performance materials used—carbon fiber, silver trimmings, ceramic brakes, exotic wood—extraordinary tuning, and exclusively low production numbers. (To wit: The Ferrari 599X is made to order by invite only.)

That’s not all. Tire replacements can cost multiple thousands of dollars, plus fees. Some require specialized luggage for their front-situated trunks, at costs like $30,000 per set. And the Zenvo ST1, for instance, must be shipped to Denmark for any major repairs.

For the people who buy these cars, though, price isn’t exactly an issue. Franz-Josef Paefgen, the CEO of Bugatti when the company unveiled its Supersport in 2010, confirmed the mentality.

“The crisis cannot keep a Bugatti buyer away from buying a car for financial reasons,” Paefgen said at the time.

Take the $1.8 million ST1. Just like the $845,000 Porsche 918 Spyder, it’s likely out of your price range. But Danish delight has got a lock on Russian billionaires–so far.

The first person to pay the $500,000 deposit for the ST1 was a wealthy Slav who opted for a customized blue paint job and carbon fiber rims, says Bobby Khan, the president of New Jersey-based Emporio Motor Group. The dealership is the only place in the U.S. that will sell the car.

Khan says he tried to talk Mr. Russia out of the tires–one botched pothole and the entire wheel would need replacement–but the client would have none of it.

“He said, I want it because I want it,” Khan said.

The desire is understandable: hand-made, with a 1,250-horsepower 8-cylinder engine that goes 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, ST1 has a top speed of 233mph. It has a wicked rear-wheel drive on a 7-speed manual transmission. The entire body is carbon fiber.

Only 15 of the ST1 will be made, with three slated for U.S. showrooms. Those specimens have already generated plenty of interest from high profile figures, as you can well imagine, but the bulk of the buyers will remain anonymous.

“We’ve already got a waiting list,” Khan says.

The latest on the list
With that in mind, here’s something else for the friendly neighborhood billionaire to consider: The $1.3 million Pagani Huayra. A newcomer to this year’s tally, Pagani’s 700-horsepower gullwing stunner, named after an ancient god of wind, is made from carbo-titanium and uses a 12-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Pagani is a small brand but has cult status among track regulars and exotic aficionados. Huayra is a big deal because it will be the first time a Pagani-made vehicle will be sold stateside.

Unfortunately for acolytes, it’ll be some time before the opportunity hits stateside. Pagani planned to debut its car in U.S. showrooms earlier this year but faced delays due to airbag compliance. Company executives maintain that five Huayras will make it to the states by 2013.

Worth the wait? Maybe. The 20-year-old company’s previous model, the Zonda F, once held the road-car lap record at the infamous Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. Huayra is said to be no less impressive. For that price, it better be.

Background

The leatherback turtle has survived for more than a hundred million years, but is now facing extinction. Recent estimates of numbers show that this species is declining precipitously throughout its range, particularly in the Pacific over the last twenty years: as few as 2,300 adult females now remain making the Pacific leatherback the world's most endangered marine turtle population.

Although Atlantic populations are rather more stable, models predict that they, too, will decline due to the large numbers of adults being killed accidentally by fishing fleets. In the Atlantic, the fact that they are widely distributed during the migration process and that they do not dive very deep increase the risk of interaction of leatherback turtles with longline fisheries.

WWF is working to conserve leatherback turtles and their habitats in Central and South America, and the western Pacific through concerted pan-Pacific and trans-Atlantic approaches that aim to protect critical nesting beaches and migratory pathways. This is being achieved by:

protecting nesting beaches and nearshore habitats by establishing and strengthening sanctuaries and wildlife refuges;
raising awareness so that local communities will protect turtles and their nests;
promoting regional agreements to conserve marine turtles;
reducing longline bycatch through promoting and facilitating gear modification, using new migration and genetics information to develop and trial management measures and ensuring that any traditional take is sustainable.

Physical Description

The leatherback turtle is the largest marine turtle and one of the largest living reptiles. Leatherbacks are one of the most migratory of all marine turtle species, making both trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific crossings. They are easily distinguished by their carapace, which is leathery, not hard as in other turtles, and by their long front flippers.

Leatherbacks have a unique system of blood supply to their bones and cartilage. This enables their body temperature to stay several degrees above the water temperature and allows them to tolerate cold water, rather like a mammal. They can dive to depths of up to 1,200m, much deeper than any other marine turtle.

Recent DNA analysis confirms that Atlantic and Pacific populations are genetically distinct lineages of a single species. In turn, nesting Pacific leatherback populations are separated into two genetically distinct populations (eastern and western populations).

A leatherback was recorded to have descended to a maximum depth of 1,230 metres, which represents the deepest dive ever recorded for a reptile.

Why is this species important?

As a major jellyfish predator, the leatherback turtle provides natural ecological control of jellyfish populations. Overabundance of jellyfish may reduce fish populations as jellyfish can feed on fish larvae and reduce population growth of commercially important fish. Hence, the presence of leatherback turtles benefits fish, fisheries and people.

Interesting Facts

The biggest ever recorded leatherback turtle was a male stranded on a Welsh beach that reached 256 cm long and weighed 916 kg.

Sri Lankan President among top five in The WORLD

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been voted among five most attractive persons in the world, through a worldwide voting on Internet by the prestigious Time Magazine. The 2011 survey was carried out to find out how the Time worldwide web readers picks the most influential 100 people in the world.

Though official voting for inclusion on the TIME 100 list ended over the weekend with South Korean pop icon on top, surfers on Time website could continue to vote for their favourites until the final list, selected by Time editors, is announced on Thursday (21).

At the time of going to press last night, President Rajapaksa was ranked fifth with a staggering 108,085 people voting him to be the most influential person in the world.

There have been many commendable messages by thousands of voters who have hailed President Rajapaksa as a truly influential leader who put a permanent end to a three decade long terrorism and liberated innocent civilians with an inspirational political leadership.

Remember the Knight Rider car? The one declaring "scanner indicating danger ahead", "your reflexes are slow" or "I shall activate a turbo-boost"?

A similarly futuristic car might hit the road sooner than you think, according to Klaus Draeger, BMW's head of research and development.

Many cars are already connected to computer systems, making drivers' and passengers' lives both more comfortable and safer.

But until now they have mainly been receiving information, so as yet they are not really engaging in dialogues, Mr Draeger says.

BMW's so-called Connected Drive concept, currently on show at the Geneva motor show, aims to change that.

Rain ahead?

BMW's system brings together more than 50 communication functions.

They include sophisticated satellite navigation systems and a self-drive technology that helps the car move safely from the fast lane to the hard shoulder on its own if the driver has a heart attack.

There are also more trivial technologies such as wireless links between the car's entertainment systems and home computers.

Cars that communicate with the world around them are safer, more entertaining and more comfortable.

"It's the way you get information into and out of the the car and what you can do with the information that is important," says Mr Draeger.

In future, your car will not only spot motorway traffic jams, it will also be able to calculate whether any delays on alternative routes make them even slower. And then the car will recommend whether or not you should get off the motorway.

The system will be helped by information received from other cars, which will be sending information about the road ahead back to you.

For instance, if drivers of other cars are suddenly using their window wipers and their brakes, the system might conclude that the road they are driving on is wet and slippery and perhaps that visibility is reduced. It will then warn you, before communicating your response to other system users.

Such information should help business travellers cut journey times whilst at the same time making them both safer and more comfortable.

"So whereas satellite navigation may initially be about comfort and efficiency, once moving about, once it starts identifying obstacles, it becomes a safety issue as well," reasons Mr Draeger.

Other features include close connectivity between a driver's desktop computer and the computer in the car.

If you schedule a meeting in the office, the information can be sent directly to your car.

Directions will be automatically entered into the satnav. Nearby hotels will be identified and an electronic booking can be made from the car. An electronic diary in the car can alert you to make sure you leave on time to be at the appointment as scheduled.

The car will also synchronise your emails, which can be read out aloud, or let you respond to Facebook messages while waiting for traffic lights to turn green.

Parking the car can be done with the assistance of a bird's-eye view of the car on a screen - or remotely, while you are standing outside the car watching it glide into a parking space.

Modern luxury

Other carmakers are also making their cars more intuitive and better connected with the world around them.

Audi's latest satnav system is linked to the internet, providing "real-time traffic information, traffic-influenced turn-by-turn directions and alerts to accidents and other incidents along their route".

Recent models from Mercedes will tell you when you seem tired and when the car in front is slowing down. Volvo, meanwhile, is trying to make its cars' electronics easier to understand and use.

Don't talk and drive. Let the car do it for you.

"To have a machine that is easy to control, like an iPhone or an iPad, is luxury these days," says Volvo Cars' chief executive Stefan Jacoby

"This is an area where we can create luxury in the premium segment. I think there will be more intelligent choices."

Safety implications

The list of applications goes on and on and over time it will get even longer, according to Tim Routsis, chief executive of engineering company Cosworth.

"The younger generation is always connected when they are at home or in the office, and increasingly they want the same in their cars," he says.

Giving them what they want is not an easy task, however, not least because of the safety implications of introducing some of these technologies to drivers whose attention should be on the road.

Some applications may improve safety, but others may distract, so a major challenge will relate to how and when communication should take place.

Solutions will need to become much more sophisticated than they are today, Mr Routsis reasons.

For instance, a blanket ban on reprogramming satnavs or writing Twitter messages whilst the car is in motion will be irritating for a passenger who should be able to engage with the electronics without disturbing the driver.

"So to facilitate this, the system will need to detect whether it is the driver or the passenger using the system," he says.

Driving buying decisions

Hence, as the list of applications gets longer, so does the list of challenges facing the industry, Mr Routsis believes.

And yet, he expects carmakers to do all it can to deliver.

"In-car technologies offer new points of differentiation," he continues.

"And increasingly, it's starting to drive buying decisions."

The Higher Education Ministry is planning to modernize the Higher National Diploma in English course conducted by the Sri Lanka Technology Education Institute to deploy students following the course to teach in Government schools as a solution to the shortage of English Teachers in Government schools.

Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake addressing a function held in connection with shifting into a new venue by the Sri Lanka Higher Technological Education Institute, said that action would be taken to deploy students who follow the Higher National Diploma in Information Technology to solve the teacher shortage problem to teach Information Technology in Government schools.

Minister Dissanayake explained that the Technological Education Institute and the Open University were very useful as the trained service personnel needed to ensure the country is rapid development.

Higher Education Ministry Secretary Dr Sunil Jayantha Navaratne and Higher Technological Education Institute Director General Professor Kapila Perera were present.

On February 18, 2009, Haroon Lorgat, the Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council, announced that the opening ceremony of the 2011 Cricket World Cup will be held in Bangladesh. The event will take place almost exactly two years from now on February 19, 2011, and proceedings will coincide with the opening game which will also take place in Bangladesh on the same day. That is exciting news for both cricket lovers in Bangladesh and the people of the country in general as the move will no doubt generate a lot of tourism and cast a spotlight on the country, hopefully helping to further improve its image and economy.

Haroon Lorgat also said that the number of matches to be played at the fifteen different selected venues had been discussed. It is obvious that the event should be used to bolster local tourism efforts and every endeavor must be made to ensure that it is a massive success. If you would like to combine sport with leisure, you’ll be happy to know that the World Cup will be making its way to either Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka, Narayanganj Osmani Stadium in Fatullah or the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The final decision as to which stadium will be used for the event is yet to be made.

No doubt, this means that Bandladesh will experience a lot of tourist-related development as city officials try to ensure that it is completely ready to receive this prestigious event and the many tourists that travel with it. Though it is still some time before the 2011 Cricket World Cup takes place, fans would definitely do well to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Visitors from other countries would also do well to take advantage of their trip and explore the country between matches so that they can learn a little bit more about the rich beauty that is to be found in Bangladesh.

CAIRO — Hundreds of thousands of protesters screamed and cheered Friday as it was announced that President Hosni Mubarak was stepping down.

Chanting "Free Egypt!" the crowds exploded in jubilant cries of joy, blaring car horns, dancing in the streets, waving flags and singing after 18 days of protests ousted Mubarak after almost 30 years in office.

People dropped to their knees in prayers. Chants from Tahrir Square where the protests began were audible hundreds of yards away as the announcement was made on state television.
