New Hampshire native William Cheever Turner enjoyed cartooning as a teenager, and continued to draw and paint, as a hobby, all his adult life. Bill earned a BFA in Painting from the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, and has been honing his skills as an artist with private studies and continuing education. Bill works primarily in oil, and occasionally pastel and graphite pencil. He also teaches drawing at Manchester Community College, Fine Arts Department.

In Bill’s new series of paintings you will see renditions of vintage vehicles that he has found around the New England countryside. Whether a full view of a vehicle in landscape, or an abstract close-up, he tries to capture the layers of paint, the rust that is now reclaiming it, and the smell of the years of grease and oil that once helped power these old and forgotten workers. He paints them in a portrait style since each subject has its’ own character.

Memberships include the Keyes Art Group, Manchester Artists Association and a juried exhibitor at the Sharon Arts Gallery, Peterborough, New Hampshire. Bill has donated his time to paint a 4′x6′ oil painting of the USS Thresher, on which 196 sailors perished one of whom was a Milford native. This painting can be viewed at the VFW Post in Milford.
