Here's some pictures that Jesse took up in the bush where he works

Feller bunchers

Many of you may have already heard, but I

This is kind of a mixed up post, I wrote
segments of it over a week or two. So if it sounds distracted, sorry. Life has
been busy. Work is going well. We’ve cut down on the amount of wild game and
are taking in beef, pigs, and sheep now. We had a pretty long waiting list for
the domestic stuff. The last hunting season (Draw Elk) ends here pretty soon so
we’ll be able to concentrate on just doing domestic stuff for a while. ‘Life’
has been throwing some pretty big things
at me lately (which you’ll read about), I’d really appreciate it if, when you
think about it, you would pray for me. Also pray for me concerning my decision
about going to college. Thank you. J Here’s

One of Ellie's sheep.

On the 28th
of November, I drove in to Preeceville in the afternoon for a bank appointment,
and of course, with it being my first time to drive without Dad or Mom to town,
the van started acting funny. :-P I hit a bump and it just started shaking from
side to side. Martha’s advice was to drive slowly and then stop in at West End
Garage, and ask Dad about it. So I did about 80 (Km) the whole way in. We had
lunch at The Farm House (REALLY GOOD! BTW!). I didn’t think that I was that
scared about the van but I must have been, because when I was trying to stir my
coffee I could have just held my hand ‘still’ and I could have stirred it. J After I went to my
appointment, we drove out to Clint’s (West End Garage). Thankfully the problem
with the van was only that the front tires needed to be balanced. Dad knew it
needed to be done, but he didn’t know that it was shaking that bad. So he gave
me some money and had me run over the tire shop and get them balanced. After
that was done Marty and I headed home, without any more problems.

Fandango about a week before she was shot.

On the 7th
my filly, Fandango was shot. Dad noticed that she wasn’t with the herd when
they came in late in the evening while he was feeding the cows. But Zeke had
seen her earlier in afternoon so we figured she was just lagging. I’ve been
working every day and have only been home in the dark so the afternoon of the
9th being the first time I had daylight (we got off early), I went out and
scouted the fence lines as she still wasn’t with the herd. I found and followed
the blood trail at the back of the horse pasture. She walked about ¼ mile from
where she had been shot. There are no wolf tracks, no cougar tracks, and she’s
not all cut up on her back and haunches. My best bet is that she was gut shot
by a late ‘draw elk’ hunter. It happened after dark, because Zeke was out
around that area in the afternoon and he came in as it got dusky. Sorry if I’m going on about it, I’m kind of
shook up. Not really mad. I’m just sad about losing a horse, and a good one, to
such a stupid thing. I would understand it more if a cougar or wolves got her.
They have to eat, and I would still be upset about losing her, but why are
there such IDIOTS out there? And why did they have to be hunting after dark on
our well posted land? So, I guess I am rather mad about that part. Sorry.
Life’s a little low for me right now.

So here's some pictures either taken by me or one of my siblings.

This one's by Martha. She gets some really good pictures.

Someone asked for the recipe for
the rosettes so here it is.

2 eggs

1 Cup of Milk

1 Cup of Flour

1 TBS of Sugar

Beat together in a bowl with egg
beater. Strain to get out lumps. Put 2
lbs of lard in a pan and heat to 365* - 375* F. Heat iron in oil. Dip into
batter (3/4 of the way in) and then into the oil. It will come off the iron as
it fries. Turn it once and then place on paper towel and sprinkle with powered
sugar.

We froze them with out sugaring
them and then when we got them out we would pop them in the toaster on a low
setting and they tasted as good as fresh (almost :-D) .

Martha took this of the sheep. Ellie owns 18 ewes, and Martha owns 3.

Our horse herd is now down to 5.

I'd prefer to work with or around horses. I love cleaning out barns, working with leather, and grooming horses. I need a job in Saskatchewan as I need to complete my drivers license here.

I've worked with horses and cows for 8 years. Last fall I started two thoroughbred horses under saddle and I have put a lot miles on other horses.

If anybody knows of anybody needing a stable hand/groom please contact me.

Buzz's song reflects my summer this year. I heard it three times this summer at music camp and never got tired of it. Mind you, how could I when Buzz and/or Shamma were singing it. It's awesome!
So I've posted a lot of pictures from camp. Hopefully you'll be able to see some of the fun I had. Seeing and hanging out with all my friends was really fun. I made a few new friends too.

The first week I was in Ken Hamm's introduction to finger picking guitar, and the second week I was in Bob Evan's class. Also working on finger picking. It was nice to be able to get in two weeks of one style. So I'm really glad I was able to get in two weeks of camp (well, three), and now I'm really missing everybody. Oh, well, I hopefully will see them next year. :-)

As of now I'm staying at the Tweimeyer's place and having a very good time baking, and hanging out with Dianne and her sister, who is visiting from Australia.

We celebrated it on Saturday and had Wolfmuellers and Lindsey S. over for homemade pizza, homemade ice cream pie, and homemade strawberry 'short cake' (it turned out to be strawberry shortcake mix up...). It was a lot of fun and a wonderful way to start off my 19th year. On Sunday Jesse and I rode over to Wolfmueller's place after church. While we were over there, it poured! LOL! We put the saddles on the deck under the over hang and rode home after it let up. We had packed slickers along just in case. But even though we wore them on the way home, we didn't really need them.
I went on facebook this morning and found that I had over 40 birthday wishes from family and friends! It brightened my bright, sunny day even more! Thank you all!
Martha is back from Ketchen Lake Bible camp (she went the first week), and now Zeke is attending the second week.
Our strawberries are doing REALLY well! Something like 2-3 gallons a day. They are sooo good!

Send some prayers up for Rick Aickman, our driving instructor. We were supposed to meet him in Preeceville yesterday for our last two hours of driving. We were going to go to Yorkton to get some driving with traffic lights. He never showed up and we waited for over 1/2 an hour. This morning Mom called him and found out that he had something similar to a heart attack and was in the hospital.
Hello all!

It’s been a while since I actually wrote last. Ya’ll probably know that better than me. J As you know I’ve been working full time over at the meat shop and have been quite enjoying work there. My only problem is I took on another horse for training and I was having trouble finding time to train him. I had him here for 2 weeks and had only put 2 days of work on him. I was so stressed out over it one day I actually gave myself quite a nice headache. L But Mom suggested the other day that Martha and I each take a milking and then I can work with Smapp (the horse) when I’m not milking. We only have two cows milking right now but have two more freshening within the next week. So now I milk both cows in the evening and while Martha milks in the morning I work with Smapp. Hopefully it works for the long term. We put the milking machine on Sally and milk Lily by hand. Lily is only going on ‘2 cylinders’ (2 quarters working) so we can’t put the machine on her. I think she is going to the auction this next week though. When it is rainy she gets really ornery, won’t come in the barn, won’t leave the corrals to go back out, and she kicks, so with more milk coming on anyways we’ll just ship her. She was just a short term project to keep us in milk until Sally freshened.

Martha and I brought Fandango down to our neighbour’s to get bred to their black/white tobiano stallion about a week and a half ago. I think that was the last time I rode. Every time I look out and see Coyote or Smapp I feel guilty. Maybe I’ll be able to get my days in order soon and be able to fit in Coyote on the weekends. Smapp I need to work with every day.

Later…

Vanilla calved on Sunday the 26th. She had a reddish/blackish heifer with a wide belt. The calf is Cilla’s birthday present from Mom and Dad. So Cilla named her Mandie. Caresse was due on Sunday, she’s looking pretty close now. Maybe she’ll calve today or tomorrow.

This morning Dad, Mom, and Ellie helped Cool Springs Ranch move their cows (950 yearlings {custom grazing} and around 50 head of their own) 7 miles down the road. It went alright I guess. I got up around 7:30 (went to bed at midnight) and after breakfast, churned 4 gallons of cream into butter. Around noon I went out and worked with Smapp. He’s coming along nicely.

It's been a bit exciting around our place for the past little while. Our first cow calved on Monday. She had a little heifer calf, which Martha named Casey. Ellie's surgery was yesterday. It went well and she's now home recuperating. They found a torn ligament, which they repaired, and they also repaired the place where it's been coming out a lot. She has to wear the sling for 4 weeks, with a bit of physiol therapy. Then she goes for a checkup.
