You can now play it on the Get A Little Gold official site.

Get A Little Gold is an idle game with some innovations in mechanics. First of all I’ve added “challenges” that make game more interesting and give additional replay value. Unlike most idle games/clickers Get A Little Gold gives player the clear objective to collect million or billion golden coins as fast as possible. The faster player reach this objective the higher prize he will receive. Classic “endless mode” is also available in game.

I’ve also added the system of global skills that can be purchased with shards (prestige currency). Global skills stays forever and gives boost for every challenge including endless mode.

Except shards player also receives new gold producing buildings and even artifacts for fast completion of challenges.

Currently I’m working on some game improvements, new tier of artifacts, new structure and new “Trillion challenge”.

I would be grateful if you vote for my game on Kongregate and Newgrounds.

Hope you will like the game!

It was created within the Fast Game Dev Cup (FGDCup) #5. It’s third time I’ve decided to take a part in this awesome challenge for indie game developers. And the result is almost ready to be shown to the wide gaming audience.

The Choice is a story of love and betrayal. Player’s main objective is to help Jack (young boy) reach his beloved girl Lily. This mission can become really tricky, especially when drunkard Paul stands on the way of Jack’s and Lily’s happiness.

Player will also find new mechanics here that are expected to make the gameplay even more fun and addictive.

The whole developing process took almost 3 month. I uploaded finished version of the game to FGL only few days ago. It received promising rating of 8 from editors and was approved for bidding. So if you have sponsor’s or developer’s account there, you can play The Choice right now.

Hope that bidding process won’t take too long and you will be able to play The Choice in the nearest future.

I’ve also created the video-trailer featuring The Choice game. Hope you will like it!

So I decided to give it a try. That’s how the idea for Symbiosis:Greenland was born!

After the fight for the Earth, that took place in the first part of the game, you are supposed to save your planet again. One small alien crystal survived in the ice of Greenland and created a new threat for humanity. Now it’s time for final fight!!!

That’s what Symbiosis:Greenland is all about.

The game received 15 brand new levels in winter setting.

I did my best to take into the account as many players’ advices and suggestions as I could. For example, many payers complained that the game was too easy. So I improved ingame balance and significantly increased the difficulty. New logic of special challenges was also added.

I’ve also changed the mechanic of some spells to make them more usable and added new skill. The maximum level available was also increased. Many players asked for “Reset points” button in the skills menu, so I added it too.

Here is official game trailer for Symbiosis:Greenland:

The Game was sponsored by the awesome Game Ark flash games portal.

You can also play Symbiosis:Greenland here on The Gamest site!

Some of you may remember that last year I took part in the Flash Game Contest for developers and even got the prizewinning place! My game When I Was Young was pretty successful and I decided to replicate this experience. That’s how my new game “Frogged” was born.

According to the topic of the competition participants were expected to create something absolutely contrary to the traditional games. They were expected either to reverse classical game mechanic or to show the player the opposite side of the game world.

After intense brainstorming I decided to create “reversed” mechanic of the arkanoid genre, where your main objective is not only to destroy all the blocks on the screen, but also to do this in the predefined order. In the Frogged you should destroy blocks of the same color to get maximum points and get high rating.

The main mechanic of the game was ready for less than one week. I’ve also created 12 basic levels to show the game to the contest jury. The game performed very well and was rated 4-th in the “Single developer” category. But the most time were spend on final polishing which took almost 3 weeks after the contest.

Here are some main features of the game:

36 challenging levels that involves strategy to be beaten;

Flexible achievements system (20 achievements);

3-star rating system;

Possibility to control the game either with mouse or keyboard;

Original setting that cannot be found in other arkanoid games.

You can play Frogged here on The Gamest Site.

If you got stuck, you can also watch walkthrough video of the Frogged game. Here it is:

Trying to create the game in the popular tower defense genre, I’ve also wanted to make a significant twist to the classic game mechanics. So I combined two mechanics: tower defense and galcon.

The first prototype was created on August 23, 2011.

Alien crystal life form came from space to destroy humanity. Our army and weapons turned up powerless against hostile crystals. And only Earth’s nature was able to resist the ruthless invader.

Player’s main objective is to destroy crystals using powers of plants. As simple as that! And I’ve done my best to make this process as challenging, interesting and addictive as possible. It took 3-4 months and a few complete redesign iterations to polish game mechanics and came up with really fun gameplay.

Player can control the battle switching between different states of plants (growth, attack and defense) and using special ability “symbiosis” that makes some plants more powerful on the expense of others. Crystals can also switch between states and their spawn rate increases with time.

I’ve also added the flexible system of difficulty settings, in order to make game even more addictive and increase its replay potential. Player can set up difficulty before starting any of the 15 stages, and the harder setting he choose – the more experience he get after completing the stage.

Each new level gives a player some skill points which can be used to unlock special abilities and spells.

Achievements in Symbiosis are not only beautiful shiny icons but also additional experience and powerups that motivate players to fight for them again and again.

Feedback and final polish

I finished work on code and graphics in September 2012 and uploaded the game to Flash Game License site. I wanted to receive feedback from colleagues-developers before opening it for regular bidding. I’ve also ordered the music and sounds from the talented composer MrFuby.

The best and the most detailed feedback were received due to Russian game developers’ forum. I’ve got a long list of improvements and tips on how to make the game really great. Here are only some of the updates that where made during last few weeks:

interface redesign (I changed the place where states change buttons were located);

improved auto-attack (I upgraded computer AI);

more polished graphics for GUI (with textures);

more intuitive and interactive learning;

decreased difficulty on first stages (to make them more comfortable for casual players);

additional skills (such as health regeneration and critical hits) for crystals;

improved control (more natural way to change attack target);

Etc…

Here are a few in-game screens that can give you an idea on how the game looks at the moment:

I’ve also created Symbiosis game trailer to make it simpler for sponsors to evaluate the game:

UPD: Symbiosis have been already released and you can play it here.

The most interesting part of it is players’ comments. Many players are striving to find the secret passage. So I decided to show how to do this here on The Gamest Blog.

If you want to discover the secret passage by yourself, DON’T READ FURTHER!

So to find the secret passage first you may want to do a couple of playthroughs that will increase your initial speed. It is possible to get to the secret passage without speed bonus, but you really should be very skillful to do this.

Then, after you’ve found the hourglass, return back left one screen (to the one with clock). You can jump left from the highest “hill” in that screen. But if you do this without speed bonus, make sure that you jump from the very edge.

If you managed to jump correctly you should be standing on the “lonely” hill now. Congratulations, you found the secret passage.

Now you should be heading to the left. But after a few playthroughs you probably recognize where you ended up.

Hope my explanations were clear. But if you want, you can also watch the video of going through secret passage.

Play When I Was Young to practice your newly acquired knowledge!

Hope you will like the gameplay and the story behind the game.

I’ve also uploaded my game into two popular flash games portals: Kongregate and Newgrounds. These sites are known for their great players’ community. That’s why every flash game developer dreams about high rating of their games on Kong and NG. So if you like When I Was Young game, please, support it with your votes. Here are links:
When I Was Young on Newgrounds

Now few words about the game itself. When I Was Young was created for Russian contest of one week development (it gained third place, by the way). That is why it’s pretty short. But I tried to integrate some interesting features such as increased speed after finishing the game and special secret passage which allows to finish the game faster. You should be really attentive to find it. I’ve also integrated Playtomic leaderboards to let players save their scores and compete with each other.

You can always download distribution package for your site with game files, thumbnails and description.

Which gamer doesn’t dream to become the game developer? It’s my story too. I fall in love with digital games from the second my parents bought first computer. But I always wanted more…

It seemed to me, that I see the flaws literally in every game I play… and I though that I know how to fix them. Eh… If only I had the needed knowledge. All those programming skills if you know what I mean.

The Gamest Studio is the attempt to bring that dream to the life. I started to look for information about game developing and realized that there are lots of happy people who are able not only to create games, but also to make substantial sums of money thanks to their hobby. It sounded fantastic and I decided to join the club.

Back in 2010 flash was the most prospective technology for creating small games. But the fact that flash games could be developed by one person (independent game developer or indie) was even more impressive. That is why I started to learn the flash programming language ActionScript 3 and make my first steps in the game development field.

At this point I have created three completed games and currently working on one big game project. It’s not so much for 1.5 years, but it’s a start.

I created this site not only to be able to showcase my games to players and sponsors, but also to gather the community of like-minded people, who love gaming and share the desire to create games. I will do my best to post frequently and share knowledge about game development in The Gamest Blog.

If you like the idea of this project, don’t hesitate to subscribe to The Gamest Blog RSS feed. It’s the most convenient way to receive recent updates.

P.S.: The fact that English is not my native language is one of the biggest challenges for me. Hope that frequent posting will help me to increase language skills. So, if you find it possible, please send the most “ugly” mistakes to my e-mail: jarofed(at)gmail.com. Thank you in advance.
