This week’s photography theme is “Show us your Toys”. This stormy afternoon seemed a good time to dig out a few and see what I could capture.

This toy will create a big dose of nostalgia for people who grew up here decades ago. “Canadian Logs” was a popular building game manufactured in Annapolis Royal by Hardwood Specialties Ltd. between 1932-1966 (the Canadian-made equivalent of Lincoln Logs.)

Project 2026 – Week 7

The photography challenge in my group for the week of Feb 15-21 is “Motion”, partly in honour of the Winter Olympics.

My first attempt was to shoot families sledding on the giant hills at Fort Anne National Historic Site, a local tradition. This shot is of a young boy who was airborne after hitting a homemade bump. Since I was at the top of the hill, the photo was not as dramatic as it would have been from the bottom.

Then after returning home, I started testing a few 45s on a new turntable, and a second possibility hit me. This is of record with a showy label. The Beatles, Side A: The Long & Winding Road. Can you guess the tune on the B side?

Today I decided to try shooting Colin’s tuba from above… a huge bell, and the pattern of reflections from the room was interesting as well.

The photography theme for Week 5 was “Daily Ritual”. My morning coffee is definitely a daily ritual. As I was taking the shot, I realized I was doubling down on the theme as Mr Dressup was a daily ritual in my childhood. Bonus points for representing two rituals?

The group theme for the week of Jan 25 was “Blue”. There were so many ways this could go, but in the end, Mother Nature helped me decide.

Since we’re all bonding with our shovels this week, and mine is blue… well… it seemed an obvious choice.

Our group theme for this week is “In the Kitchen”.

I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I last made a lemon meringue pie… but the mood hit me today so it seemed appropriate to honour this occasion with a photo.

Simpler is often harder, but in the end I got a bit creative one evening and came up with this shot which I named “Balancing Act”
