Questlove to direct new documentary about Earth, Wind & Fire

The Roots drummer Questlove is set to direct a documentary film about Earth, Wind & Fire, to be released in 2025.

The musician shared the news – appropriately – on Saturday, the 21st night of September, promising to tell “the definitive story of the elements” with the feature film.

Posting on Instagram, Questlove said the film would tell “the story of how a band led by a genius from Chicago changed our way of thinking, our minds and our hearts”.

“Having been baptized in the afrocentric joy river of this powerhouse unit, I’ve learned about them, I’ve learned about us & more importantly I’ve learned about and rediscovered myself in the process,” he added.

“I’m so excited to be directing a documentary preserving their positive but VERY vulnerable and real story of Soul, Self & Struggle. This is the story of joy, persistence, love, pain, magic and self discovery. This is Earth, Wind & Fire.”

Verdine White, Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson from the iconic disco and R&B group are giving their support to the project, adding (via Variety): “We look forward to this in-depth journey of our band, and are so excited to have Questlove directing the documentary.”

Questlove has become increasingly involved behind the camera in recent years, directing the acclaimed, Oscar and Grammy-winning 2021 documentary Summer Of Soul, which told the story of the overlooked 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival.

In a five-star review of Summer Of Soul, NME wrote: “Initially, the film was going to be called ‘Black Woodstock’ – it’s still written on the clapper board in the opening shots – but Questlove thought that would be a disservice to what really happened in America in the summer of 1969. The Harlem Cultural Festival needed not just recognition, but ownership. With Summer of Soul, it finally has both.”

He is also set to helm a new adaptation of Disney’s 1970 classic The Aristocats, which will be re-imagined as a “live-action/hybrid”. The drummer will also oversee the film’s music and will serve as an executive producer.

Questlove is also rumoured to be involved in a documentary about Sly Stone, as well as a feature film project Dilla Time, about J Dilla.

LL Cool J and Flavor Flav address Diddy arrest at Black Music Action Coalition gala

LL Cool J and Flavor Flav were asked about their thoughts on the arrest of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs at the Black Music Action Coalition gala in Los Angeles this week.

The fourth annual awards gala was hosted at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday (September 19), where the likes of Usher, LL Cool J and Gunna were honoured.

The event was held just two days after rap mogul Diddy was arrested in New York and charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transporting for prostitution. It followed a string of sexual misconduct allegations filed against him over the past year.

He has since been denied bail, with the latest reports claiming that he had been placed on suicide watch as he awaits trial.

Speaking to Sky News on the red carpet, LL Cool J replied “no” when asked if he had any thoughts on the high-profile arrest or allegations, before adding: “I feel for his children, the rest I can’t speak on, that’s what we’ve got a court system for. But I feel for his kids.”

Diddy is father to seven children aged between 33 and one-years-old.

When Flavor Flav was asked about the arrest, he replied: “You know what, I’mma tell you, when anybody asks me my opinion on Diddy, you know what my opinion is? I have none. I ain’t got no answers for a Diddy question. None.”

Diddy is charged with “a persistent and pervasive pattern of abuse toward women and other individuals” that spanned “decades”.

According to the indictment, Combs “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct” (per Variety).

It also alleges that he and his associates would coerce victims into participating in days-long “freak offs”, which were “elaborate and produced sex performances that Combs arranged, directed, masturbated during, and often electronically recorded”.

Federal prosecutors also allege that Combs manipulated women through drugs, asserting control over their careers, wielding his financial power over them and subjecting them to violence and punishment – including allegations that he “hit, kicked, threw objects at, and dragged victims, sometimes by their hair”.

Diddy’s legal representative Marc Agnifilo has asserted that he is innocent, and said that he will “fight like hell” to free him on bail, TMZ has reported. NME have also reached out to Diddy’s representatives for comment.

The charges are the latest accusations to hit combs, after R&B singer and ex Cassie filed a lawsuit against him on allegations of physical and sexual abuse last year.

Diddy denied the claims before the pair settled the lawsuit “to mutual satisfaction” a day after it was filed. Footage of Combs’ attack on Cassie was later released to the public in May, and Diddy issued an apology for his actions at the time.

Two separate allegations were also made against Diddy – one woman claimed Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her, and the other alleged that Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping the plaintiff and her friend in 1990 or 1991.

Diddy went online to deny all allegations against him, but Hall hasn’t replied to the accusations.

Earlier this year, producer Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones sued Combs alleging he sexually assaulted him. Diddy replied, saying Jones’ claims were “pure fiction”.

On May 22, Diddy was then accused of drugging and assaulting Crystal McKinney, a former model. Diddy did not respond for comment.

A former porn actress also came forward on July 4 to accuse the rapper of sex trafficking. Diddy’s lawyer has denied the claims, maintaining that “Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone.”

The veteran boyband will be performing 16 shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM across summer and autumn next year as part of ‘The Right Stuff’ residency.

The run of shows will kick off June 20, 2025 and run through to November 15, 2025.

“We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform for our fans, but a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the next level,” shared Donnie Wahlberg in a press statement.

“We plan on maximizing everything that the amazing Dolby Live at Park MGM has to offer, to create the most incredible NKOTB concert ever. As well as everything that Las Vegas has to offer — to create multiple events to directly engage with our fans. Las Vegas will never be the same after the New Kids and the Blockheads take over the town.”

According to a press release, the 16 performances will “immerse attendees in a heart pounding night of hits, spectacle, celebration and showmanship”, and will be “jam-packed with their biggest hits and many surprises in store for their dedicated fans”.

The announcement comes after the band teased a Sin City residency during their headline set at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas last weekend.

Following a fan event, the group led mobile billboard trucks down the Las Vegas strip, as reported by Rolling Stone, building up anticipation for fans.

Back in May of this year, the group released ‘Still Kids’, their first full-length record in 11 years.

Speaking to NME around the release, Wahlberg shared: “We always figured we’d do another album at some point. The fans – the Blockheads – would often ask, and we did a song a few years back with Rick Astley, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue [2022’s ‘Bring Back the Time’] and it really inspired us to start writing again and that lit the spark to lead to a new album.”

P Diddy reportedly placed on suicide watch while awaiting trial for sex crimes

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been placed on suicide watch as he awaits his trial for his ongoing sex trafficking and racketeering case.

On Monday (September 16), the rapper and music mogul was arrested in Manhattan, New York following a string of sexual misconduct allegations filed against him over the past year. He was then charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution, according to legal documents on Tuesday (September 17).

The indictment also revealed some of the items that were said to have been seized from Combs’ house raids which occurred back in March. According to The Independent, authorities recovered narcotics, three AR-15s with “defaced serial numbers”, ammunition and a drum magazine, as well as “more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant” and evidence that aligned with the “freak offs” which were alleged in the rapper’s ex Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit.

The indictment alleged that Combs “maintained control over his victims through, among other things, physical violence, promises of career opportunities, granting and threatening to withhold financial support, and by other coercive means, including tracking their whereabouts, dictating the victims’ appearance, monitoring their medical records, controlling their housing, and supplying them with controlled substances.”

If convicted, the rapper could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life. Combs pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

While appearing in court on Tuesday, federal judge Robyn Tarnofsky declared that Combs was to remain in federal custody while awaiting his trial, denying his lawyers’ request for bail.

Combs is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) after being denied bail twice. Now, according to People, the mogul has been placed on suicide watch. His attorney Marc Agnifilo told TMZ that the suicide watch directive was issued by MDC officials as a routine measure for “new, high-profile inmates.”

He added that he had spent six hours with Combs at the detention centre and shared that he was “not at all suicidal” but rather “strong, healthy, confident and focused on his defense.”

According to the U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections, suicide watch is “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”

MDC is known for being dangerous and understaffed with a high death and suicide rate. The centre currently houses about 1,600 inmates, many of which are awaiting trial.

During their motion for Combs to be granted bail, the mogul’s attorneys noted that “several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention,” and added: “Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years” (per The Daily Beast).

Agnifilo recently asked the court to transfer Combs to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, New Jersey. The matter is currently under review.

In a statement to Rolling Stone and other members of the press following Tuesday’s heading (September 17), Agnifilo announced his intentions to appeal the decision against Diddy’s bail denial in court later today (September 18): “Mr. Combs is a fighter. He’s going to fight this until the end. He is innocent. We’re going to fight this case with everything we have.”

Combs’ charges follow a wave of accusations and lawsuits against Combs, beginning in November 2023 when R&B singer and Combs’ ex-girlfriend Cassie filed a lawsuit against him on allegations of physical and sexual abuse. Diddy denied the claims before the pair settled the lawsuit “to mutual satisfaction” a day after it was filed. Footage of Combs’ attack on Cassie was later released to the public in May, and Diddy issued an apology for his actions at the time.

A week after Ventura’s original lawsuit filed in November last year, two new allegations were made against Diddy; one woman claimed Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her and the other alleged that Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping the plaintiff and her friend in 1990 or 1991 – adding that Diddy turned violent days later. Diddy went online to deny all allegations against him, but Hall hasn’t replied to the accusations.

Billy Ocean announces 2025 greatest hits UK tour – with a gap for the Glastonbury legends’ slot

Billy Ocean has shared details of a greatest hits UK tour, set to take place next year and leaving a slot free at the same time as Glastonbury.

The Grammy-winning R&B singer – who has had countless UK hits throughout his career – is set to embark on 14 shows across the country next summer.

These kick off with an opening night at the O2 Apollo in Manchester on June 4, before continuing throughout the month with shows in Glasgow, Newcastle, Bristol Leeds Liverpool and more.

A show at London’s Royal Albert Hall is scheduled for June 25, before Ocean wraps up the tour with shows in Wolverhampton, Cardiff and Nottingham on June 27, 28 and 30 respectively.

Interestingly, there is a day off in Ocean’s schedule on June 29 – which coincides with the Sunday of Glastonbury 2025, where the iconic legend’s slot will be taking place.

Next year’s edition of the Worthy Farm festival will be held between June 25 and 29, and speculation has already arisen about who the headliners could be. Rumours around who could be filling the legend’s slot have also emerged, with reports emerging earlier this year that Cher was “in meaningful talks” with the organisers for the position.

The slot has become one of the most prestigious slots of the Worthy Farm event over the years and sees one veteran artist take to the Pyramid stage late on the Sunday afternoon to break out a career-spanning set of their biggest hits.

Shania Twain took on the slot at this year’s edition, while Yusuf/Cat Stevens played in 2023. Performers previous to that include Diana Ross, Barry Gibb, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and Kylie Minogue. For Minogue, the set at the 2019 festival became the most-watched moment of that year’s event (via Radio X).

Now, with the gap in Billy Ocean’s upcoming tour schedule, it is possible that the singer-songwriter could be taking on the coveted role next. Others who have had their names thrown into the mix for the 2025 legends slot include Spice Girls, Sheryl Crow, Stevie Nicks and Annie Lennox.

The announcement of the upcoming UK tour comes as the R&B icon is set to embark on a headline tour across North America in October and November. You can find any remaining tickets to the international dates here.

It also comes as he recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of his iconic album ‘Suddenly’, and marked the occasion by sharing a new, limited-edition blue vinyl edition.

The record was his fifth studio album, and featured his first big chart hit ‘Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)’. The track topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became Ocean’s first record to chart in the UK – peaking at Number Nine on the UK album charts.

If the 74-year-old is to take on the coveted legend’s slot next summer, fans can expect him to break out a variety of his biggest hits to date. These include his 1976 breakthrough single ‘Love Really Hurts Without You’, chart-topping 1985 hit ‘When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going’, and the 1988 classic ‘Get Outta My Dreams, Get into My Car’.

As well as speculation about the legend’s slot, rumours have also been circulating around who will be the three headliners at Glasto 2025.

Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and Green Day are among those who have made the list, and the latter recently added fuel to the fire by sharing their only European dates for 2025 so far. The scheduled shows leave space for the Glastonbury weekend.

Co-organiser Emily Eavis confirmed at the time of this year’s festival that she was already in talks with artists for next year, and the punk trio are among the favourites.

Oasis were also one of the names fans were quick to throw into the mix – following their reunion last month and upcoming 2025 tour dates. However, Liam and Noel Gallagher soon put a damper on the prospect, clarifying that they would not be playing any shows outside of their headline tour dates.

‘Wednesday’ season two trailer gives “twisted” first look at new episodes

Netflix have today (September 20) shared a new teaser trailer for Wednesday season two – check it out below.

The series, which is currently being filmed in Dublin, Ireland, will arrive on the streaming platform in 2025. The new teaser shows some exclusive behind-the-scenes shots with the main cast members – including Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) and Luis Guzmán (Gomez Adams).

It also cuts to moments of director Tim Burton working on set and includes a voiceover of Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Adams) saying: “This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine.”

Other scenes include Ortega’s Wednesday saying “let’s play dolls” while holding a huge knife, adding: “If we show you any more your eyes would bleed…and I’m not that generous.”

Meanwhile, earlier this week, Ortega was spotted at Chappell Roan’s Dublin gig.

The actress was seen alongside co-star Myers at the gig, which took place on Tuesday (September 17). The pair were seen sitting in one of the balconies at the 3Olympia Theatre on Dame Street in Dublin while fans excitedly took pictures and video footage of them.

It comes as other stars of the new Wednesday series have been spotted out and about in Ireland recently – including Steve Buscemi who was seen eating at Bubba’s Fish Market in the south Dublin town of Dalkey last month (31 August). Buscemi is joining the cast of Wednesday as Barry Dort, the new principal of Nevermore Academy. The show relocated its production from Romania to Ireland for the upcoming second season.

Wednesday has become a huge success for Netflix, being streamed for a total of 341.2million hours and beating the record previously held by Stranger Things.

In a recent interview, director Tim Burton also said the record-breaking series stopped him from wanting to retire.

Earlier this month, Mike Shinoda, turntablist Joe Hahn, guitarist Brad Delson and bassist Dave ‘Phoenix’ Farrell reunited Linkin Park seven years after the tragic death of vocalist Chester Bennington.

Now, Bennington’s mother Susan Eubanks has penned an essay on her feelings regarding the reunion and the band’s new line-up, which has been published by Rolling Stone. Replacing Chester on vocals now is former Dead Sara singer Emily Armstrong, and founding drummer Rob Bourdon has been replaced by Colin Brittain.

In her essay, Eubanks wrote: “I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I [wasn’t] going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.”

“I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past. They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.”

She continued: “They said they would let the family know if they were going to reunite. They did not. [Bennington’s first wife] Samantha and [son] Draven didn’t know until it was told to the world. It was the same for me and it hurt.”

According to Eubanks, she last met Mike Shinoda around two years ago, where he “promised to tell the family what was going on”. He later reached out when Linkin Park were going to release archival tracks featuring Chester for their ‘Papercuts’ collection.

However, Eubanks alleges that Shinoda and the other members of Linkin Park never told the family about their reunion plans and Emily Armstrong joining the band. After seeing the teasers that Linkin Park were up to something, Eubanks thought “maybe the band was going back out, but that Mike would be the singer”. She added: “I thought if they were to go back out, it would just be the band not adding a singer.”

As for Armstrong replacing Bennington on vocals, Eubanks says she isn’t a fan: “I thought her singing… I don’t even remember what it is [she was singing], because I didn’t want to hear it. It was just a moment. But it was her, I’m just going to say it, screeching her way through a very high note. And I got out of there as fast as I could. I cried.”

According to Eubanks, having a female singer was something that Mike Shinoda had been plotting for a long time: “Mike told Chester one time that he thought singing these songs would be better with a girl, because he often put Chester down. And Chester called me and said, ‘He thinks that they’re going to replace me with a girl.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said Mike told him at rehearsal that, ‘If you decide you’re leaving, we’re going to replace you with a girl.’ And Chester was dumbfounded and hurt. And the fact is that now they did it. So, of course, all that comes right back into my mind. I had a talk with my son about this. I didn’t think they’d probably do it.”

She also said she “would’ve been OK” with Shinoda being the band’s only singer even if the songs didn’t sound the same: “But I’m not OK with this, to have somebody replace him and try to do what he did. I don’t think that there’s anybody in the world that has the same voice. And when I heard that, I was just so repelled that no, they’re trying to do exactly what Chester did, but they’re not succeeding at it.”

Susan Eubanks ended her essay by addressing the band: “If I could tell the band members anything it’s that I feel betrayed. You made a promise to me that you would let us know and you didn’t. If you were going to do this, this is the wrong way to do it. Don’t put [Emily Armstrong] out there to sing Chester’s songs and then act like this was always the way it should have been. It’s like making him go away, erasing the past. You don’t have to worry about going through the old songs and finding new ones, new Chester songs to put out. Now you can just put out new songs. But don’t bother to put out Chester’s songs with Emily singing them.”

The initial response to the new line-up was largely positive among fellow artists and fans alike. However, controversy soon arose after it emerged that Armstrong seemingly had ties to Scientology and convicted rapist Danny Masterson. This was brought to light after a message sent to the singer by The Mars Volta and former At The Drive-In frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala resurfaced online.

Chester Bennington’s son Jaime, 28, later hit out at remarks made by Shinoda. The latter explained that fans may need “time to wrap their heads around” the band reforming with Armstrong. He also said that those who “disrespect” him due to the decision would “lose my respect in return”.

Jaime has since claimed that Linkin Park fans have been “aggressive” towards him since he criticised the revamped group. Additionally, Jaime said his father’s former bandmates “didn’t ask me how I felt” about the reunion.

Speaking to the audience in LA last week, Shinoda explained that this version of Linkin Park was “not about erasing the past” following the controversy surrounding Armstrong stepping in to replace the late Chester Bennington. The band have since taken to the stage in New York, and are scheduled to play at The O2 in London next Tuesday (September 24).

Drummer Colin Brittain has joined Linkin Park for this current run of dates following the departure of founding member Rob Bourdon. Founding guitarist Brad Delson is also absent from the group’s comeback tour, but is still working with them behind-the-scenes – including participating in the creation of new music.

Armstrong explained recently that she would “love to do [Chester Bennington] proud”, and issued a statement addressing her previous support of Masterson.

Meanwhile, Shinoda has spoken about why Linkin Park chose to keep their band name for the relaunched line-up. Additionally, he has said he is “not sure” if they will make new recordings of older songs that feature Bennington – who died by suicide in 2017.

In a statement, Shinoda wrote: “We feel really empowered with this new line-up and the vibrant and energised new music we’ve made together. We’re weaving together the sonic touchpoints we’ve been known for and still exploring new ones.”

Bennington’s widow Talinda has since expressed her approval of Armstrong joining the band.

Stevie Wonder has annoucned a surprise ‘Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart’ 2024 US tour.

The legendary musician will kick off his tour at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburg on October 8. From there, he will make stops in cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Greensboro, Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee and Minneapolis before wrapping up tour at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on October 30.

The 10 date run of shows comes ahead of the US presidential election on November 5. As per a statement (via Variety), the tour is a call for “joy over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war.” It also shared “as a special thank you,” the 25-time Grammy winner will be offering a portion of complimentary tickets “to those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to fix our nation’s broken heart.”

The tour shares the same name as Wonder’s most recent single ‘Can We Fix Our Nation’s Broken Heart’ which marked his first new song in four years.

The track finds Wonder reflecting on a nation torn apart by strife, miscommunication and sorrow as he sings: “Children marching on the boulevard / Tears are streaming down their face / The tension in the air is so bizarre / Love is gone without a trace.”

It marks his first solo release since 2020, when he brought out ‘Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate’ and ‘Where Is Our Love Song’ to christen the launch of his own record label, So What’s The Fuss Music.

Last year, he featured on The Rolling Stones’ ‘Sweet Sounds Of Heaven‘ alongside Lady Gaga. More recently, he played harmonica on Beyoncé‘s ‘Jolene’ cover.

‘Pokémon’ is suing ‘Palworld’ for copyright infringement

After a lot of speculation from fans, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have revealed that they are suing Palworld, alleging the game “infringes multiple patent rights”.

Palworld has long been dubbed “Pokémon with guns” due to it being a creature capture game with many monsters that look similar to iconic Pokémon designs, but it was noted on release that its gameplay differs greatly and is more comparable to a survival game like Ark.

When the game released back in January, The Pokémon Company stated it intended “to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to the Pokémon.” NME has reached out to Nintendo for comment.

Nintendo and The Pokémon Company’s statement revealed they were filing “a patent infringement lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court” against Palworld developer Pocketpair, and that the lawsuit “seeks an injunction against infringement and compensation for damages on the grounds that Palworld, a game developed and released by the Defendant, infringes multiple patent rights.” NME has reached out to Pocketpair for comment.

As for why Palworld is only being sued now – almost nine months after Nintendo claimed it would start an investigation – a company representative told Game File: “We filed the lawsuit at this timing after careful investigation of the content that is the subject of this lawsuit. We will refrain from commenting on topics that relate to the content of the lawsuit.”

In January, a former Pokémon legal boss, Don McGowan, said of Palworld, “This looks like the usual ripoff nonsense that I would see a thousand times a year when I was chief legal officer of Pokémon. I’m just surprised it got this far.”

However, Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “we would appreciate it if you would refrain from slandering the artists involved with Palworld.”

In other news, Frostpunk 2 has been released to high praise from critics.

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has announced the host and performer line-up for the first five episodes of season 50 – see the full roster below.

Last night, the long-running late-night live sketch comedy variety show announced that it will return for its 50th season later this month (September 28), and has shared the line-up for its first five episodes.

To kick off its historic 50th season, SNL will be starting strong with some of the biggest names in music and entertainment. The season premiere will be hosted by Jean Smart, with a live performance from Jelly Roll. October 5’s episode will see Coldplay perform, hosted by Nate Gargatze. The following week, Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks will perform while being hosted by Ariana Grande.

October 19’s show will be hosted by Michael Keaton and Billie Eilish will perform, while the November 2 show will see Chappell Roan perform with John Mulaney hosting.

For the 50th season premiere, both Jean Smart and Jelly Roll will be making their Saturday Night Live debuts. Ariana Grande’s hosting duties will be the first time she’s done so on the show since 2016 – she most recently performed on the show earlier this year. Stevie Nicks’ October 12 performance is notable as the singer last performed on the show in 1983.

Earlier this week, the Chris Martin-led Coldplay announced details of huge stadium shows in London and Hull for next year – marking their only UK and European shows of 2025.

ARTMS add Australian dates to 2024 ‘Moonshot’ world tour

K-pop girl group ARTMS have announced new dates for their ongoing 2024 ‘Moonshot’ world tour, featuring concerts in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Australia.

ARTMS’ 2024 ‘Moonshot’ world tour kicked off in July with concerts across South Korea and Japan. The girl group are currently on the tour’s US leg, featuring 12 dates over August and September 2024.

Thereafter, the girl group will also perform four shows across Latin America. In October, ARMTS will bring their ‘Moonshot’ world tour to Europe, which will feature seven shows across six countries. They include concerts in the cities of Warsaw, Berlin, Paris, London and more.

ARTMS will also head to Australia in November, where they will perform in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, with venue details yet to be released.

According to a poster for ARTMS’ 2024 ‘Moonshot’ world tour, more dates will be announced soon. Tickets to the US dates of the tour went on sale May 17, with most dates available via Ticketmaster.

ARTMS’ 2024 ‘Moonshot’ world tour will start about two months after the girl group released their long-awaited debut album, ‘Devine All Love & Live’ on May 31. In the lead-up to the record, the quintet have released singles such as ‘Birth’ and ‘Flower Rhythm’.

The girl group is made up of five LOONA members: Kim Lip, Choery, JinSoul, HaSeul and HeeJin. The quintet joined had Modhaus in 2023, a label established by former LOONA producer Jaden Jeong, following their departure from BlockBerry Creative.

‘The Office’ Australia shows female David Brent in first trailer

The first trailer for the Australian remake of The Office has arrived – and it features a female equivalent of David Brent.

The adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s mockumentary comedy series is set to arrive on Amazon Prime on October 18. Felicity Ward stars as the franchise’s first-ever female lead, playing Hannah Howard, the managing director of the Flinley Craddick packaging company.

It is the 13th version of The Office around the world to date, after the huge success of the US version, starring Steve Carell as Michael Scott, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2013.

In the new clip, Hannah – the equivalent of Gervais’ David Brent – tries (and fails) to win over her employees at the Sydney-based firm with an attempt at charisma, vision and girlboss energy.

She is not the only character in the remake whose original counterpart was male – Edith Poor plays receptionist, front desk executive and productivity manager Lizze, the equivalent of Dwight/Gareth role. The show also features sales rep Nick (Steen Raskopoulos as Tim/Jim role) and Greta (Shari Sebbens as Pam/Dawn).

Fans of the original The Office seemed unconvinced by the Australian version when it was announced, with some pointing out that it’s potentially redundant given the existence of Utopia, an Australian comedy series that has been running for five seasons and is set in the working life of the office of a government infrastructure organisation.

Now the trailer is out, the consensus remains the same. “First Raygun and now an Australian version of The Office, hasn’t Australia suffered enough,” one X/Twitter user wrote.

“I love Australian TV but the Aus version of the office just seems shite and pointless the reason why the UK and later the US ones worked because it felt real, and it didn’t try too hard to be funny. They both had amazing casts with great chemistry, this just feels forced,” said another.

In addition to the Australian version, a new spin-off from the US version of The Office is in the works, starring Domhnall Gleeson. It will feature a new set of characters set in the same universe, and in June, Carell confirmed he would not appear in the show.

The official teaser for the show states: “The documentary crew that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

Robert Pattinson can’t stop dying in ‘Mickey 17’ trailer

The first trailer for Bong Joon-ho‘s Mickey 17 has arrived – watch it below.

Years after it was first announced, the first full trailer for Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi film has been released. It stars Robert Pattinson as Mickey, a human who signs on as a disposable member of an expedition to explore an ice planet. The catch here is that every time Mickey dies, he’ll be revived as a clone with majority of his memories restored.

The trailer below sees Pattinson’s Mickey getting his arm chopped off, being thrown into a vat of lava and shot at, fighting off a clone and being trampled by an alien species. As the trailer – and film title – suggests, Mickey dies 16 times before his 17th reincarnation decides he’s finally done dying and being replaced by clones.

The film also stars Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, Holliday Grainger and more.

Mickey 17 will mark Joon-ho’s first film effort since 2019’s universally lauded Parasite, which took home Best Picture at the Academy Awards the following year. Parasite also went on to become the highest-grossing Korean film in history.

The film – based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 – was first announced in 2022, with a short teaser being released that same year. The film was due for release this year, but was delayed indefinitely due to last year’s actors’ and writers’ strike before finally landing a January 2025 release date.

Mickey 17 will premiere in cinemas on January 31, 2025.

In a glowing five-star review of Parasite, Rhian Daly wrote for NME: “Part of the brilliance of Parasite is that, while this is an ‘us vs them’ story, it doesn’t pick a side. Instead, Bong puts the flaws of both families on full display – each is as parasitical as the other, the Kims burrowing their way into the Parks’ house under false pretences and the Parks subtly exploiting the Kims while making disparaging comments about them that give themselves a sense of superiority.”

Miley Cyrus sued over copyright infringement for her hit ‘Flowers’

Miley Cyrus has been sued over her hit ‘Flowers’ after it was alleged that she and her co-writers copied parts of Bruno Mars’ song ‘When I Was Your Man’.

The lawsuit – which was filed on Monday (September 16) in a Los Angeles court – sees a company named Tempo Music Investments claim that Cyrus’s Grammy-Award-winning song included an unauthorised “exploitation” of Mars’ 2013 track. Her co-writers, Gregory Hein and Michael Pollack, were also named in the suit, as well as Sony Music Publishing, Apple, Target, Walmart and other companies who were accused of distributing the track.

Mars is not named as a plaintiff as Tempo Music said that it owns a portion of ‘When I Was Your Man’ after they purchased it from the singer’s co-writer Philip Lawrence. The company is seeking yet-to-be-determined damages as well as demanding a court order that prohibits Cyrus from reproducing, distributing or publicly performing the song.

At the time of writing, Cyrus and her co-defendants have yet to respond to the suit. NME has reached out to both Cyrus’ and Mars’ representatives for comment.

The lawsuit claimed (as per Rolling Stone): “Any fan of Bruno Mars’ ‘When I Was Your Man’ knows that Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ did not achieve all of that success on its own. ‘Flowers’ duplicates numerous melodic, harmonic, and lyrical elements of ‘When I Was Your Man,’ including the melodic pitch design and sequence of the verse, the connecting bass-line, certain bars of the chorus, certain theatrical music elements, lyric elements, and specific chord progressions.”

It continued: “It is undeniable based on the combination and number of similarities between the two recordings that ‘Flowers’ would not exist without ‘When I Was Your Man,’” the complaint, which names Cyrus’ fellow songwriters Gregory Hein and Michael Pollack as co-defendants, continued. “With ‘Flowers,’ Cyrus, Hein, and Pollack have created a derivative work of ‘When I Was Your Man’ without authorization.”

Released in 2023 as the lead single from her eighth studio album ‘Endless Summer Vacation‘, ‘Flowers’ peaked at Number One on the UK Charts as well as the Billboard US Hot 100. It spent eight weeks at Number One in the US last year, and 10 weeks in the UK. ‘Flowers’ was the best-selling global single of 2023 and earned Cyrus two Grammys for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance earlier this year.

Diddy charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transporting for prostitution

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion and transportation to engage in prostitution, according to legal documents.

The rapper and music mogul is expected to appear before a judge later today (September 17), where the charges will be read. If convicted, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum of life.

Diddy was arrested in New York on Monday (September 16) after being indicted by a grand jury in Manhattan. The arrest followed a string of sexual misconduct allegations filed against him over the past year.

He is charged with “a persistent and pervasive pattern of abuse toward women and other individuals” that spanned “decades”. According to the indictment, Combs “abused, threatened, and coerced women and others around him to fulfil his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct,” (per Variety).

Federal prosecutors allege that Combs manipulated these women through drugs, asserting control over their careers, wielding his financial power over them and subjecting them to violence and punishment. The indictment says that he “hit, kicked, threw objects at, and dragged victims, sometimes by their hair.”

The indictment alleges that Diddy and his associates would coerce victims into participating in days-long sex events called “freak offs”, which were “elaborate and produced sex performances that Combs arranged, directed, masturbated during, and often electronically recorded.”

Prosecutors also allege that footage of the “freak offs” would be used as “collateral” to deter victims from coming forward about the abuse.

According to the indictment, Combs would hire male sex workers for these events, sometimes arranging for them to be transported across state lines or internationally. Afterwards, Diddy and the participants often required IV fluids to recover from drug use, the indictment alleges.

Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a press conference earlier today that the women were given ketamine, ecstasy and GHB.

Searches of Diddy’s residences in March saw investigators seize “freak off supplies” including drugs and more than 1000 bottles of baby oil and other lubricant, according to the indictment.

The searches also allegedly found multiple AR-15s with defaced serial numbers, as well as a drum magazine. Prosecutors say that Diddy and his security personnel carried firearms and that the rapper sometimes brandished a gun to threaten victims and witnesses in the case.

Diddy is also accused of causing an unnamed victim to “engage in commercial sex acts” and “knowingly transported an individual in interstate and foreign commerce with intent that the individual engage in prostitution.”

Williams said that Diddy “did not do all this on his own”, and that once the federal investigation began, he and his associates attempted to impede it by pressuring witnesses and victims to stay silent. This included “making phone calls to witnesses and victims and giving them a false narrative of what they had experienced,” Williams said.

Williams went on to say that the indictment proves that no one is above the law, “no matter how powerful or wealthy or famous you may be.”

Diddy’s legal representative Marc Agnifilo has asserted that he is innocent, and said that he will “fight like hell” to free him on bail, TMZ has reported.

Prosecutors have asked that Combs be held without bail, writing in a 16-page detention letter that Combs and a coconspirator kidnapped someone at gunpoint in 2011, and later set fire to another person’s convertible using a Molotov cocktail.

The government also argued that Combs poses a flight risk, given his tremendous wealth and connections.

NME have reached out to Diddy’s representatives for comment.

Following his arrest this morning, Agnifilo told Variety: “We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.”

The statement continues: “Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the Black community. He is an imperfect person but he is not a criminal.”

“To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”

The charges follow a wave of accusations and lawsuits against Combs, beginning in November 2023 when R&B singer and ex Cassie filed a lawsuit against him on allegations of physical and sexual abuse. Diddy denied the claims before the pair settled the lawsuit “to mutual satisfaction” a day after it was filed. Footage of Combs’ attack on Cassie was later released to the public in May, and Diddy issued an apology for his actions at the time.

A week after Ventura’s original lawsuit filed in November last year, two new allegations were made against Diddy; one woman claimed Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her and the other alleged that Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping the plaintiff and her friend in 1990 or 1991 – adding that Diddy turned violent days later. Diddy went online to deny all allegations against him, but Hall hasn’t replied to the accusations.

Earlier this year, producer Rodney ‘Lil Rod’ Jones sued Combs alleging he sexually assaulted him, had parties where sex workers and underage girls were present, and coerced him to sleep with prostitutes. Diddy replied, saying Jones’ claims were “pure fiction”.

Diddy continues to deny any wrongdoing.

On May 22, he was accused of drugging and assaulting Crystal McKinney, a former model. McKinney accused him of assaulting her at a Men’s Fashion Week event in 2003 by giving her a “powerful” joint and then assaulting her in a bathroom. Diddy did not respond for comment.

A former porn actress also came forward on July 4 to accuse the rapper of sex trafficking. Diddy’s lawyer has denied the claims, maintaining that “Mr Combs has never sexually assaulted or sex trafficked anyone.”

Diddy is expected to appear in a Manhattan courtroom later today.

Yesterday (September 16), the ‘Starships’ rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that her previously announced deluxe edition of ‘Pink Friday 2’ is being scrapped in favour of ‘Pink Friday 3’.

Last month, the rapper confirmed that deluxe’s release for September 13, saying it would come with more than three but fewer than seven new songs. The deluxe was delayed, and has now been axed altogether.

However, some of the new songs from the deluxe edition will make its way onto ‘Pink Friday 3’, according to Nicki Minaj. She wrote on social media: “Instead of doing a DELUXE to ‘Pink Friday 2’, I’ve decided to do a brand new album. I’ll still incorporate new songs like #Mamita & [The “anxiety” song] for the remainder of the tour tho…and I’ll announce the new date within the next couple weeks.”

She also confirmed that she’s recorded more songs recently: “The new music is just too good to be thrown away on a deluxe album. Last night, the songs I recorded were just way too iconic. I love you guys so much. You know that. I know you do. I’ll still give you something leading up to the announcement, so no worries.”

Phoenix, Kavinsky and Angèle have teased the release of their ‘Nightcall’ collab remix which was performed during the Paris Olympics.

The French indie rock band took to their official X/Twitter account to share a photo of a billboard in what appears to be Los Angeles. The billboard features a red sports car in the middle of it with a giant phone on top of the sign. The bottom of the sign reads “Kavinsky. Angèle, Phoenix Nightcall.”

A phone number is also featured at the top of the sign. The caption of the post read: “We have something to tell you. Call us now on +1 (901) 673-5822. Upon calling the number, fans are treated to a chat between Angèle and Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars. “The song is ready, do you want to hear it?” Mars is heard asking Angèle to which she replies: “Yes of course, lets go.” Mars continues: “Okay cool let me add Kavinsky to the call right now,” before a snippet of the track begins to play.

The trio teamed up at the 2024 Paris Olympics closing ceremony to perform their remix of the French electro-pop pioneer’s 2010 song. ‘Nightcall’ was produced with Daft Punk‘s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and mixed by electronic artist Sebastian. It featured vocals by Lovefoxxx, the lead singer of Brazilian band CSS and was used in the title sequence of the 2011 film Drive which starred Ryan Gosling and Carrey Mulligan.

Lupe Fiasco, Childish Gambino, Vinny Cha$e & Kid Art, Will Young and The Weeknd have all sampled the track and London Grammar covered the song on their 2013 debut LP ‘If You Wait’.

At the closing ceremony for the Olympics, ‘Nightcall’ broke the record to become the most Shazamed song ever in a single day. The track sat tight at the top of the Top 200 Global chart on Shazam and, at time of writing, had 6,921,000 Shazams on the app. The most Shazamed song of all time remains as Tones And I’s 2019 viral track ‘Dance Monkey’.

Back in 2022, Kavinsky spoke to NME about the huge success of ‘Nightcall’, and opened up about what to expect from his second album, ‘Reborn’. He also confirmed news that a new collaboration with The Weeknd was on the way.

“After the sudden success of ‘Nightcall’, I didn’t really want to record again at that moment. I sensed some pressure; I was scared. I was scared to imagine what my music was going to be after this success,” he said. “I took two steps back and started to imagine what I was going to record after that, at my own pace. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do next.”

“It allowed me to breathe some fresh air; it allowed me to think and it allowed people to forget about me for a little bit so that when I felt ready to return, I could perhaps try new things.”

KISS’ Gene Simmons weighs in on Linkin Park’s new singer and the Scientology controversy: “In rock and roll, there are no rules”

Gene Simmons has offered his views on Linkin Park’s new singer, Emily Armstrong, and the Scientology controversy surrounding the band’s announcement.

The nu-metal band announced Armstrong as their lead singer on September 5, following the death of longtime vocalist Chester Bennington in July 2017.

The former KISS frontman told Forbes that he was on board with Armstrong getting the role, saying: “It’s great. I listened. I saw some videos. The new female singer, great. She fits the band. She sounds great and good luck to them. Life is short. Go out there and live it up, enjoy it. Linkin Park got fans, they want to hear the songs and the music. Why not? There are bands that tour, Lynyrd Skynyrd, lots of bands that barely have any original members or no original members. People want to hear those songs.”

While some fans and critics questioned Linkin Park’s decision to go for a female vocalist rather than a male singer like Bennington, Simmons explained that doing so “breaks the rules”. He continued, “All these “rules.” Genesis, they lose Peter Gabriel, it’s over. Nope. Once Gabriel left, Genesis became a stadium band with a drummer who came up from the back. All those ‘rules,’ who made the rules anyway? In rock and roll, there are no rules.”

Simmons, of course, knows plenty about line-up changes, given that KISS went through plenty during their fifty years as a band. Only Simmons and fellow vocalist Paul Stanley stayed in KISS throughout their existence – the band’s original lead guitarist Ace Frehley famously left in 1982, before rejoining in 1996 and leaving again in 2022.

Founding drummer Peter Criss had three spells with KISS, from 1973 to 1980, 1996 to 2000, and then from 2002 to 2004. Bruce Kulick, Vinnie Vincent and Mark St. John all had spells as lead guitarist, while Eric Carr was on drums for a decade. When KISS disbanded in 2023, the final lineup consisted of Simmons, Stanley, drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Tommy Thayer.

Meanwhile, Simmons was also asked about the Scientology controversy surrounding Linkin Park’s decision to make Armstrong their new lead vocalist. Due to her alleged ties with the Church of Scientology and previous support of former actor and convicted rapist Danny Masterson – the singer has since issued a statement addressing her support – there’s been further controversy and debate surrounding Linkin Park’s decision.

When asked for his thoughts on the Scientology controversy, Simmons responded: “I know all about Scientology. I studied [author and Scientology founder] L. Ron Hubbard […] the thetans and the energy leftover when the universe was created, that we all have ‘theta’ within us. I get it. I understand and have read deeply into that. I’m not a follower, but good luck. Life is short. Believe whatever you want, worship a rock or an alien, whatever floats your boat.

He continued: “The great silent majority – I don’t mean politically – the people who make things happen, buy tickets. So, if they – and they will – sell lots of tickets, Linkin Park, then the public has spoken. End of story. And they will do great.”

Simmons described himself as “not a fan” of Hubbard and said “there are a lot of things to critique”, before pointing out that most Americans are Christian yet worship Jesus, who he calls a “Jewish rabbi”.

The singer, who’s Jewish himself, continued, “But people don’t think in those terms. When you look at the facts of it, as stated in the New Testament, people ignore the very real fact that Jews have never been popular, but billions of people worship Jews.”

Following Linkin Park’s announcement that Armstrong would be joining, fans began re-sharing a message singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala of The Mars Volta sent to Armstrong, which seemed to allege that she had connections to Scientology. Bixler-Zavala, who was formerly the frontman of At The Drive-In, left the Church of Scientology in late 2017.
