Look at Samsung’s Note that showed up as a big Super Bowl commercial.

What you see in the video above is sort of a teaser trailer for LG’s new tablet. It has a 5-inch screen with a 4:3 ratio. I have to admit that some of the larger cellular phones are only about 4 inches on a diagonal, but is 5 inches too big? That would probably fit in a pocket, and might give a little more real estate than the usual smartphone screen.

I’m not certain what the release date of the Vu is, but some recent data has appeared after LG’s Vu leak. It includes a 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 8GB ROM, NFC, and an 8 Megapixel camera. It will be Android Gingerbread (version 2.3), but I’m surprised that it is not Honeycomb.

I suppose that we will see how this phone affects the market. Considering we live in an age crowded with Android smartphones and tablets, I wonder if this will be noticed.

This particular one is an interesting case that shows an alternate timeline where the iPhone came out in the eighties. Perhaps they plucked it from that alternate timeline that shows up on the TV show Fringe.

This is just the tip of the iceberg with the iPhone 4/4S. This image was from a service called Schreer Delights. You can see more of what they have to offer here, They have several iPhone cases at their website (a Blogspot creation) for about $44.95.

Please, take some time to visit the site here. These are by far the coolest iPhone case that I have seen, and that includes ones that I have seen at CES last January. Not only do they have this retro Apple case, but a retro iPod case, not to mention Gameboy, and other very cool designs.

Not only do they have cases, but a lot of interesting speakers as well. Did I mention the pendants? Yes, this Schreer Delights is a Geek Church gift shop.

I don’t know if this is a sign of our sick society, but I think we need daredevils. There is something about people who throw caution to the wind that I believe genuinely inspires us and might be worth the risk of possible loss of life.

All right, this is getting a little too philosophical, but when I heard about this stunt, I was impressed. So far, the record for a skydive is 103,000 from Air Force pilot Joe Kittinger back in 1960. An Austrian extreme athlete named Felix Baumgartner could change that by jumping 120,000 feet above ground.

In case you are curious, that height is at the edge of space. Baumgartner plans to ride up the distance via custom-built pressurized capsule tethered to a 600-foot-wide balloon. He will wear a specialized pressure suit, and then jump from there.

After 35 minutes, Baumgartner will break the sound barrier. After that, it’s five more minutes of falling before pulling his parachute chord one mile before hitting the ground.

Baumgartner will attempt this record-breaking highdive in August. I really hope that nothing goes wrong and he lands on the ground safely.

The iNitro Kit is designed to work with an iPhone, and it becomes the remote control unit.

The iNitro uses an infrared signal, and the user needs to use the included Dongle to plug onto their iPhone. As you might have guessed, there is an app for controlling the car.

The application has several ways to control the car. One of them is the traditional dual stick interface that you see on most RC cars. There is also an accelerometer function in case you want to tilt and shift controls. There is even a “Slide” function that allows the user to drag one’s finger across the interface to control the car in pre-determined patterns.

Yes, this sounds like something that I definitely want to take for a spin. You can see from my Source how there was apparent test run, but I don’t see any word on price or availability.

You need a lot of space in your living room/home theater, and it can get pretty expensive if you want the proper equipment to make it look good. It seems like after Avatar was released, it seemed like 3D was going to be the next big thing. Of course, it wasn’t the next big thing back when it was first released decades earlier, but Spatial Keen’s newest device could change that.

This is the 3DeeScreen and it is designed to snap onto 15.6 inch laptops like Windows 7 types and change the 2D images into autostereoscopic 3D.

Yeah, that sounds great, doesn’t it? I really hope it looks as nigh holographic as this image is showing us. I wish I could try this out for myself, but I’m not certain that is going to happen anytime soon. I have heard that there is no 3D “sweet spot” here, and that the 3DeeScreen adjusts to a user’s position thanks to eye-tracking software.

If you want to check this out for yourself, I believe that you can get this now here for a price of $129.99.

What you see in the photo here is the Hagent. I believe that its name is some sort of mashup of the words “heat agent”.

The Hagent is a robot programmed for one thing: to bring the heat into cold places. For example, if you have a fireplace in your home that is piping hot, the Hagent will warm itself by it, and then redistribute that heat to a drafty place in your household. I believe that it is black because this is a color that absorbs heat the best.

It looks like the Hagent is pretty small yet pretty big, but hopefully it has some moderately loud alert system so I don’t trip over it. Then again, I guess we are used to those Roombas that go around and clean our house.

Now here’s the big question: is it easier to built a house that keeps in warmth, or just make a robot so all the warmth within it is redistributed?

Some of you might remember our coverage of Xappr, a way of creating a laser tag style game with a smartphone. It looks like toy giant NERF (owned by bigger giant Hasbro) is getting in on this eighties action as they are bringing back Lazer tag.

Unlike the funny guns and helmets back in the day (my day, if that doesn’t show my age too much), the NERF versions pair with an iPhone or iPod Touch. With the use of an app, you will have some augmented reality going on the gun sight.

Like the guns back then, you can play against others, but this new version lets you play against virtual opponents. By the way, there is also a global Lazer Tag leaderboard. By the way, there is a way of unlocking new attacks and gear.

So, in short, these upgrades are good, yes? In fact, for the first time, your paired iDevices show where your blast went.

You will have to wait until summer to see the latest edition of NERF’s Lazer Tag, and will cost $40 or two for $70.

For some reason, I seem to be reporting on the neatest stuff lately that makes me really believe that the future really is going to be as fantastically futuristic as the ones that we have watched in science fiction for years.

Take a look at this new augmented reality video that I found this morning. If you aren’t familiar with augmented reality, it is when you have a camera that manipulates the images seen in the display in real-time. Generally, most AR has a jerky effect as the computer scans the object in question and hurries to put the pre-programmed image in place. This Obvious Engine system has created some software that really isolates the software from the rest of the scene, and makes the Dr. Pepper can do a lot. Watch the video above, and listen to more about what Google might be planning on doing with augmented reality.

This next bit of news is not related to the Obvious Engine video, as far as I know. According to several tech blog sources, Google is planning on putting out their own pair of specially made augmented reality glasses. These glasses would put a special display with a front-facing camera, voice recognition, and some navigation input controlled by your head movements with a very advanced HUD (Heads-Up Display). Think of it like Iron Man’s helmet, if you would like a geek reference.

Apparently these special AR shades would be communicating with Google so that everything you see will have an augmented reality effect, if you choose to, I suppose. I’m not certain if I would want to live in a world where everything I look at essentially becomes a web site with pull-down menus. Then again, I wasn’t to wild about Corning’s vision of the future either.

You know what it reminds me of? That Earth that Quinn and his friends visited on Sliders where everyone wore virtual reality helmets and saw “whatever they wanted to see”. Man, that is such a geeky way of looking at this. I wonder if the future really is every eye with a pair of Google Goggles.

Some of you might remember when we discussed Corning when I was at CES. There is something about the idea of Gorilla Glass 2 and their super strong glass on our mobile devices gave me a sense of hope for the future.

The company has just made this video called “A Day Made of Glass 2″, which is apparently a sequel to a video that “captured the imaginations of millions”. Yeah, I haven’t seen it, but this sequel makes me want to check out the original. Feel free to watch the newest version above, but I will tell you after the jump that I kind of had mixed feelings about it.

I will start with what I enjoyed. I think it is amazing that Corning is planning to create some really cool glass that can be used as transparent displays, not just the cool displays that we can see through, but ones capable of producing some 3D graphics, almost hologram-ish.

I feel like there is a downside to this future. I think that most of it comes from watching the movie Minority Report too many times. Do you remember how the whole Pre-Crime agency had all those transparent displays, and every piece of glass was a touch-sensitive display of some kind. This is exactly the type of world that Corning predicts, but without all the Precogs floating in small pools.

I have to admit that Steven Speilberg used some interesting photographic tricks to produce a general washed out look to Minority Report that showed a sterile future full of transparent displays. However, Corning shows the complete opposite. They showed a world where transparent displays improve our work and bring us closer together. I have to admit that I found it odd to see a Berlin-wall-sized glass wall in the middle of a forest, in order to educate kids about dinosaurs. It just seemed an odd mix.

I also have to admit that perhaps my view of the future is a little skewed, perhaps because speculative fiction set in defunct futures has knocked it off-kilter. Imagine if I could go back in time 100 years ago and tried to envision a dystopian future. What if I could even see this future? In the early twentieth century, perhaps I would have cowered at a world made of drywall.

My point is that despite how a future might look, aesthetic-wise, it might not be the sick world we fear it could be. In other words, I’m not certain what a world full of Corning glass with 3D displays will look like. In all honesty, I am afraid it would create a world full of too much digital imagery. So walking down a street would be like walking down certain sections of downtown Tokyo.

Or maybe, just maybe, things just might work out after all, with whatever the future and its technology will bring us.

He then asked which one is the left and which is the right, and I honestly didn’t know.

Personally, I don’t usually even look when it comes to headphones. Maybe I have some hearing disorder, I don’t know. Still, researchers at Igarashi Design Interfaces Project in Tokyo are working on “Universal Headphones”, and the pair has the ability to automatically switch channels when placed in the wrong ear.

Here’s how it works: If the headphone is in your right ear, the sensor will point to the back of your head, and in the left it points to open air. The sensor interprets the information and relays to an embedded audio circuit that swaps the stereo channel to the proper ear if the headphones are mismatched.

That is a quote from my source, but I wonder if this could be a standard for headphones in the future. I suppose that we will see.
