So I’m in the cellar of my fantasy baseball league; second to last with a long list of injuries making it difficult to see a way out. If you find yourself in this position, I thought I’d share some of the things I’m trying to do to move back to the top:

Be more active. You may feel like you’re “out of it” and throw in the towel. Well, that’s an option. But at this point it’s likely that half your league has enjoyed the #1 spot in the rankings (I was there 3 weeks ago…) at some point during the year. Get on the waivers and start spot starting hot bats for injured or underperforming players. If those players turn it around, then get them back in, but it’s past time to send them to the bench for a while.
Stop worrying about where I drafted players when considering trades. Grady Sizemore is no longer worth the 1st round pick you (and I) spent on him. Don’t expect 1st round type players in return. Some people are still willing to part with the Torii Hunter’s of the world in order to take a risk on Sizemore. At least consider these.
Two-for-One trades can be my friend. Normally I’m against two-for-one trades. But at this point, our teams aren’t going to be saved by one player. You probably have a player or even two that teams in the middle of the pack or near the top are coveting. These players will not win the league for you. They can help you restock on some mid-level consistency and upside that might just turn the tide for your team.
Don’t do nothing. Expanding on #1. You’re team, as it is, cannot win the league. You have to make a move for any chance of getting in the money. If it means anything to you to win, you must get a deal done.

in 2001, The Strokes came blasting out of the NYC scene and defined what rock was going to sound like in the first decade of the the new millenium. my daughter Emily got me in a Strokes mood yesterday on our drive back to NYC from the east end. The Strokes’ first two records are classics and its always great to go back and indulge in them.

I’m starting to follow the Iranian election riots through Twitter. Even if you don’t have an account there you should follow the trending topics where the most reliable real time news is developing. This has been going on since the Friday election. Absolutely unbelievable.

UPDATE: The Huffington Post also has an excellent live blog breaking news as it happens.
