The Universe; The One; the source of all

The Number one is the number of unity, it is often associated with the Sun and the masculine principle in Nature. It also relates to our stage in life as a newborn, & therefore to the Sun & to the Divine Child. The number one, of course, is preceded by the number zero, a circle. The number one is symbolized by a circle with a dot in the middle.

The Goddess and God; the perfect duality; projective and receptive energy; the couple; personal union with deity; interpenetration of the physical and spiritual; balance

The number two is a number of duality. It has been associated with the Moon & its waxing and waning. It also corresponds to that stage in human development when we became aware of others. It represents the Goddess and her consort, and all pairs of complements, balance & harmony. The number two is symbolized by the solar cross.

The Triple Goddess; the Lunar Phases; the physical, mental & spiritual aspects of our species.

The number three is sacred to the Goddess and reflects her threefold nature of Maiden, Mother & Crone. For this reason, ingredients in a magick charm are often three in number and spells are repeated three times. The third time's the charm. A triangle symbolizes the number three.

The elements; the Spirits of the stones; the winds; the seasons

Four is the number of the Earth plane, of the four directions, the four elements and of the four seasons. It is also the number of the greater Sabbats and of the lesser Sabbats. The number four is symbolized by the Sun Wheel or the square.

The senses; the pentagram; the elements plus akasha; a Goddess number

The number five is the number of man. It represents the five senses of sight, sound, smell, taste & touch; the five fingers of the human hand, & the five appendages; the two arms, two legs and the head It also represents the four elements of the number four plus Spirit, which makes up five and all life, which is represented by the pentagram.

Six is the number if the Goddess because it is a multiple of three, and it is a multiple of three, and it is often associated with the Goddess in her aspect as a love & fertility goddess, Venus or Freya.

The number six is the total of three and the numbers that preceed it, 1 & 2. This process of adding numbers together to better understand their significance is a practice much used in ceremonial magick, but seemingly forgotten in the natural magick of Wicca & Paganism. It was, however, part of the Magick of Pagan Europe because the practice of repeating a charm once, then twice, then three times ( a total of 6) is still a part of many old European Spells.

The number six is symbolized by the six-pointed star, among other things.

The planets which the ancients knew; the time of the Lunar phase; power, protection and magic

Seven is a mystical number, a number of Spirit, and represents the various planes of existence, including the material or Earth plane. It also corresponds to the psychic centers called "chakras," which are associated with points along the central nervous system of the human body. The seventh, or the highest chakra, is receptive to the highest spiritual planes.

The number seven also corresponds to the 7 days of the week, and one week represents one phase of the Moon, or New to the first quarter to full, etc. so that the number 7 is also a number of the Moon.

The number of the Sabbats; a number of the God

Eight is a number of power. It represents the Sun and the 8 solar Sabbats, the Solstices and the Equinoxes, and the turning points in between. It is symbolized by the eight-pointed star.

A number of the Goddess The Number nine completes the cycle.

A fortunate number - The number of lunar months in a year, therefore the ideal number of Witches in a coven.

Numbers have been viewed as symbols that hold mystic significance since the beginning of time. We love to study them and then use the symbols in our daily lives. I am in the process of making a new altar for my study room and in deciding what to put on it I came across the idea of putting certain things in clusters. When arranging an altar or the top of a table the number of items in your cluster can have a significant feeling and energy to it.

For instance, placing 2 stones in a group has a much different feeling and energy than placing 3 stones. The 3 invokes the Trinity, whereby 2 would have the energy of yin and yang. Quite a difference isn't it?

Use the system below in deciding how to arrange your altar or any table top in your home. Each number invokes a difference energy and feeling.

ONE independence, new beginnings, oneness with life, self-development, individuality, progress and creativity.

2012 Doomsday Predictions

There are many 2012 end of the world predictions. We will just identify a few.

1. There are theories about ALIENS FROM OUTER SPACE - but is this December 21 2012 end of the world idea a result of too much time sitting in front of the box and not enough actual facts?  And how did they come up with this 2012 doomsday prediction about an alien invasion when there is no widely accepted proof that aliens even exist! This unlike, the next theme, does not deserve any serious attention.

2. What about the biblical PROPHECIES OF ARMAGEDDON - we have already had two world wars, will the world end with the ultimate war between good and evil in the year 2012?  Biblical prophecies have been right before. One example is the birth of Christ which fulfilled about 300 prophecies. Before Armageddon comes however (and December 21 2012 is not predicted in the Bible as "Armageddon Day"), biblical prophecies speak of a great time of GREAT TRIBULATION on the earth. Having said that, the Bible not only prophecies about a battle of Armageddon on earth but also increased earthquakes, floods, famine, disease, wars and rumours of wars.

There will be things happening in the heavens far beyond our control. These are not end of the world 2012 doomsday predictions. But the Bible does say God will use cosmic events as means of his judgement on earth before the final day of judgement. If there is a dooms day, that's it. But before that day, Revelation 16:21 speaks of catastrophic disasters like 50 kilo hailstones.    Matthew 24:29 says, "Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the SUN be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:" But while the Bible speaks of judgment on earth before the ultimate "day of judgement", it also speaks of hope and describes very clearly how to escape the coming wrath. This is not about escaping any December 21 2012 doomsday prediction... but something more fearful!

3. Then there are stories surfacing about SCIENTIFIC EXPERIMENTS along the lines of splitting the atom - will the earth be blown up by a mad scientist?   Apparently there is an experiment on a very large scale planned for the year 2012. Could this bring about an end of the world 2012 doomsday? In a long very tunnel, particle physicists plan to collide electrons and positrons (the opposite of electrons). The tunnel may be up to 50km long and they will use energies of up to a trillion electron volts. This will hurl these particles at close to the speed of light. No one knows what will happen if antimatter is created. Could it destroy a delicate balance in the universe? Will December 21 2012 end of the world predictions be fulfilled through scientific a experiment? We don't think so.

4. On an ancient MAYAN CALENDAR 2012 is an IMPORTANT DATE The Mayan Calendar runs out on December 21 2012 and it has been suggested that they knew something we don't. This is the basis of what has been called the Mayan calendar 2012 Prophecy. However, just because an ancient Mayan calendar ends on December 21 2012 it does not mean that the world will end then too, especially as the Mayan's did not actually speak of a doomsday, much less a 2012 doomsday. STRANGE MAYAN BELIEFS. While the Mayan's had some interesting beliefs and insights about life and the cosmos and while some of them reflect scientific observations today, there are other things you may not have heard of. For example, the Mayans also believed that our sun is a god powered by blood from human sacrifices - this and other beliefs were influenced by hallucinogenic drugs which were used, among other things for autosacrifices (yes, suicide). 5. A very real possibility is DISEASE - we have seen how quickly it can spread and devastate human life on earth. And there has been talk of the threat of pandemics for several years now. Including the recent Swine Flu pandemic. But is it reasonable to say that the world will end this way on exactly December 21 2012 with an earth wide pandemic? No!

6. Will SOLAR FLARES snuff out the earth on December 21 2012 - solar flares seem to come in cycles and NASA have said that the sun is due for a big one around 2012. How big and if it will really happen or bring about an end of the world 2012 doomsday are unknown. What we do know is that our life on earth is deeply affected by the activity of the sun. And as mentioned in the section above on Armageddon, the sun WILL play a role in end time biblical judgments on the earth. However, while solar flares and other solar activity may affect us more in 2012 than other years, no one can predict that solar activity will bring about the end of the world on December 21 2012 doomsday.

7. BIOLOGICAL WARFARE has been suggested as a means to earth's end. But again, how can one predict that the world will come to an end in this way on exactly December 21 2012? The threat of biological warfare will always be here as long as we have insane and / or hateful world control freaks. However, biological warfare cannot be seriously considered as and end of the world 2012 doomsday prophecy, let alone the exact date of December 21 2012. This must be seen as scaremongering and not worthy of attention

8. One prediction is of a GIANT METEOR OR ASTEROID. Meteors have struck the earth before. Could a giant meteor or comet bring and end to the world? Some predict we are overdue for a strike and give 2012 as a possible date for a giant meteor strike on earth. The biggest threat NASA have identified is an asteroid named Apophis. However it is not coming on an end of the world December 21 2012 doomsday and is currently on a Level 0 on the Torino Scale. It will pass close in 2029 with a probability for impact on April 13, 2036 calculated at 1 in 45,000. Asteroid threats still remain. 9. Others believe that a PLANET X: NIBIRU, two thirds earth's size, will pass through our solar system around 2012 causing polar axis shifts on earth. A process, if it actually happens, that would apparently take up to 5,000 years! So, it would not happen on December 21 2012. 10. Planet X has also been linked to some VAGUE prophecies (or quatrains). Some say that for NOSTRADAMUS 2012 end of the world predictions are true. However, more than once Nostradamus predictions have been "tweaked" to fit with world catastrophes. Nostradamus was a clever man but was he also a prophet?

What do Pagans do?

Pagans revere the cycles of Nature through rituals or ceremonies of various kinds. Pagans of the western traditions celebrate up to eight festivals or Sabbats each year (not all Pagans celebrate all the Sabbats). They comprise the four solar quarters i.e. the two solstices (longest and shortest days) and the two equinoxes (day and night are the same length) plus four Celtic 'fire' festivals. All these mark important events in the cycle of life and also symbolise changes in the Goddess and God. They are:

1.) Samhain(pronounced "sowain"), 31st October: the feast of the dead; remembrance of ancestors and people, now dead, who were important to us. It marks the end of the Celtic year and the start of the spiritual new year. Also known as All Hallows day, the night before being All Hallows Eve (Halloween) or all souls night.

2.) Yule, the winter solstice, 21st December approx.: rebirth of the sun and the gradual lengthening of the days towards springtime and new life.

3.) Imbolc or Bride's day: start of spring and the return of the Goddess to the land.

Ostara (Easter), the spring equinox, 21st March: Return of the sun from the south, springtime proper. Some celebrate a holy union between God and Goddess.

4.) Beltane (starting on May day): Summertime begins celebrating new life and the holy marriage of God and Goddess.

5) .Midsomer (Midsummer) or Litha, the summer solstice, 21st June approx.: Everything is green thanks to the God of nature, the Green Man.

6.) Lughnasadh or Lammas end of August: the festival of the first (corn) harvest.

7.) Mabon, the Autumn equinox, 21st September approx.: second (fruit) harvest celebration, making plans for the winter months to come.

8.) And finally back to Samhain and another turn of the wheel of the year. or wheel of life

Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane and Lammas are known as fire festivals. Traditionally there was always a fire at these celebrations. These festivals were never held on exact dates for example Lammas would have been celebrated when the barleycorn was harvested. This wheel is sometimes called the Gardnerian Wheel because it is a combination of two ancient wheels (acknowledgements to Kenny Klein). The hunting wheel, the oldest, has two God births: The Oak King is born at midsummer and rules through to Yule when he dies and the Holly King is born. The agricultural wheel has the young God born at Ostara, symbolic of the sun/son rising in the East. He dies in the second harvest, Mabon.

In the different traditions these holidays (holy days) may have different names, for example Imbolc is called the festival of light in the northern tradition.

Western Pagans have no fixed temples in which to worship but instead (usually) make a circle around themselves (or form themselves into a circle) in a room or in a clearing or on a beach or find a naturally ocurring circle such as a grove or use one of the ancient stone circles. Pagans have no hierarchy like the established religions so Pagans are free to follow whatever spiritual path they choose.

Pagans like to celebrate more rites of passage than the prevailing culture. Most people see two rites of passage: coming of age (18 or 21) and marriage. Christians also get a first one, the Christening, though the subject is unable to experience it. The Pagan equivalent of a Christening is a Naming ceremony. Other rites of passage may include Child - celebrating change from baby to child, Puberty and so on. Marriage is called hand-fasting and this may be arranged for eternity or just for a year-and-a-day, renewable. The latter is a great stabiliser against casual relationships and divorces, providing some level of commitment yet recognising that some relationships will not last.

Christianity and Paganism

Although the word Witch is hated the word Pagan still rings alarm bells in the minds of many Christians or people in the sub-Christian culture. Why? Because Paganism was the enemy within. The church of Rome was determined to stamp it out by any means available and successfully built up an image of evil around Pagans so that even today ordinary people think Pagans and/or Witches sacrifice babies, perform evil spells and so on. The church also masked out or absorbed Pagan celebrations, for example Jesus was not born on the 25th December but was more probably born around April in 7 BCE. This was moved to the 6th January (the Eastern Orthodox church still uses that date). Then at the council of Niceae in 325 the western Christian church persuaded Emperor Constantin to move the celebration of the birth of Jesus to that other celebration of the birth of the sun, in Roman times the festival of Mithras, the God of Light at the winter solstice (which was thought to be 25th December).

Some fundamental differences between Christianity and Paganism
It sometimes helps to define Paganism by making comparisons with Christianity:

1. Christianity sees life and the world as linear i.e. having a beginning and an end, creation to the day of judgement. The Pagan view is circular - the endless cycle of the seasons, of death and rebirth. There will be no end of the world or the universe. The big bang was not the moment of creation but the last rebirth of the universe. For example Christmas celebrates an event which happened 2000 years ago. Yule celebrates an annually recurring event, the rebirth of the sun.

2. The bible tells that people were made in the image of God. (Note: this is really a Hebrew concept; the word God in the first chapter of Genesis is a mistranslation of the word Elohim which means Gods, plural and genderless. The creation and fall of Adam comes in chapter 2 and essentially describes the creation of the Hebrew tribe. The old testament is a chronology of the development of the Hebrew nation and the new testament is a continuation of this. Therefore Christians are, in a sense, subscribers to the Semitic lineage.) The Pagan Gods and Goddesses were really made in our image which is the other way round. Pagan deities are images or symbols of deep rooted memories which Jung called archetypes. The more ethereal 'God' and 'Goddess', which relate to Binah and Chokma in the Qabala, or Shakta and Shakti in the Hindu system do not have any particular form. Artists may present them as human but that is personal choice.

3. Pagans have no concept of sin and no Satan. So there is no fiery hell to worry about either. They have their own values and ethics.

4. The bible and gospels are the guiding rules for Christians (though the interpretation varies immensely); Pagans are responsible for their own actions.

The Devil and Satanism

The Pagan view of the universe is one of complemetary opposites - light/dark, yin/yang, earth/sky, male/female, Shakta/Shakti. The major patriarchal religions have a duality of good and evil, God and Satan. The concept of Satan has been around for thousands of years, not only in the Hebrew tradition. The Babylonians, Chaldeans, and Persians believed in a dualism between the forces of darkness and light. Even Paganism has it's Hades and Hel (A Northern Goddess of the underworld), however the concept of Satan was developed by the Church and eventually he was called the Devil, a term meaning 'little God'. While God was originally responsible for good and bad (for example he sent plagues etc. to punish his followers) it was slowly assumed that God did only the good things and the Devil/Satan all the bad things. The Christian church developed the concept of Lucifer, the fallen angel. The Devil was officially adopted by the Christian church in 447 and he was pronounced immortal in 547. Consequently it is impossible for Pagans to adopt the concept of the Devil which is a Judeo-Christian concept. Likewise the Satanists are, in a sense followers of the Judaic/Christian belief system because they worship an anti-god figure which belongs to that system.

Islam

While Christianity can be shown to have been hijacked by the church of Rome to gain power Islam (which means 'obedience') is almost a designer religion, carefully planned by Mohammed around 630 years after Christ. Mohammed drew on the indigenous Pagan religions for many ideas but developed it into an aggressive Patriarchal religion that conquered most of Asia just as Christians conquered all the Pagan West and much of the rest of the world as well. Like Christianity it ruthlessly suppressed the Pagan religions in its own back yard, showing much more tolerance to other patriarchal religions like Christianity.

Sex and Nudity

Sex and nakedness are not the taboo subjects that they can be in the major religions. After all they are merely part of nature. In the western tradition the seasons are equated with the relationship of the Goddess and God, for example Beltane, the May Sabbat is a celebration of the Hieros Gamos or holy marriage of the Goddess and her consort, through which the fertility of nature is ensured.

Witchcraft and Wicca

The spiritual path Gardner launched he called Witchcraft but eventually he came up with the name 'Wicca' after the Saxon name for Witch. Its appeal was the mystique of Witchcraft and the elaborate ceremonies, also equality of male and female and freedom from Christian puritan morals. So Wicca is a recent name for Witchcraft. In fact a Witch is simply anyone who has special powers and can be of any religion, for example a Jewish witch. So to be accurate Wicca is not another name for Witchcraft. In fact Wicca is a mix of various practices, ancient and recent put together like a badly fitting jigsaw puzzle by Gerald Gardner; each piece is valid but they didn't fit together right and some pieces were missing. Wiccans are the present-day guardians and priesthood of what is known as the Western Mystery Tradition which has at least some of its roots thousands of years old and many Wiccans spend much time and effort researching the missing pieces. Wicca is now mainly a modern spiritual path geared to today's society and needs, a path to self knowledge and self improvement. Each and every Wiccan is his or her own Priest or Priestess, the implication being there is no intermediary between them and deity - no religious hierarchy.

In the 60s and 70s many people became interested in Eastern esoteric religions and spiritualities such as Krishna Consciousness, completely unaware that we have our own indigenous mystery religion.

Modern Wicca is mostly practised in groups or by solitaries. Some work in small groups called covens. Strictly speaking Wicca is not a religion but the esoteric study of Western Paganism. However Wicca is practised on many levels and the definition of Wicca has become blurred so that Wicca itself is often regarded as a religion. A Wiccan coven is like a religious mystery school.

Children & Paganism

Generally children do not get involved in esoteric rituals or mystery teachings such as Wicca until at least 16 years old. But the children of Pagan families may well join in simple exoteric rituals such as dancing round the Maypole, or round the bonfire on one of the 'fire festivals' (Beltane, Lammas, Samhain, Imbolc). Pagan children are often very much aware of some differences from the surrounding culture, for example the Goddess. They might have an altar in their home and Pagan artefacts which the other children usually don't have.

At Christmas most Pagan children still get Santa and they usually get drawn into the baby Jesus thing too. They probably know that things like the Christmas tree (Yule tree) are really Pagan things. Yule is, of course, celebrated a few days earlier than Christmas and Pagan families do their best with it in spite of being overshadowed by Christmas. Easter is a lot more Pagan and all the hot cross buns and Easter eggs are all Pagan traditions. Whereas the Christian impacts on children are limited to Christmas and Easter the Pagan children continue to celebrate the natural cycles of God and Goddess all round the year.

Pagan children are occasionally asked not to mention this or that to their friends or teachers or relatives and it becomes quite a task to help children understand this is because some people get upset about other religions, not because Pagans are doing anything wrong. It is hard for them to understand how things like making a corn dolly or lighting candles to Bridget or celebrating Samhain (Halloween) can possibly be wrong in the eyes of others.

There is a movement by the Christian Coalition to bring prayer back into American Schools which now and again gets close to succeeding. This requires amendment to the first amendment to the American constitution which aims to separate church and state. Through this change Christian teachers will be able to teach Christianity to captive audiences in state schools. In the UK, with no written constitution, this is already part of the status quo on the grounds that it is a Christian country.

Paganism in The U.S.A.

Paganism in the USA is different from that in Europe. Wicca is by far the largest group and the two people credited with its introduction were Zsuzanna Budapest who created a feminist version of Wicca with some Gardnerian principles and Dr. Raymond Buckland who brought in another variant of Gardnerian witchcraft. Having said that there appear to have been some lingering traditions in the US already, notably in Salem, which have emerged on the wave of popularity. The intermingling of these various traditions have evolved some forms of Wicca far removed from the British traditions but since a feature of Paganism is its ability to adapt to contemporary society and culture this is wholly justified. However, Paganism needs roots and the roots tend to be European. Some Americans, seeking roots closer to home have adopted Native American concepts. There are now a number of American 'gurus', people prominent in Wicca, such as Starhawk, whose famous book 'Spiral Dance' hardly mentions the word 'Wicca' and contains a wealth of modern religious philosophy.

Wiccan Paganism is now the fastest growing religion in America currently with half to a million adherents. The USA has a fragmented culture with groups of totally different persuasions apparently living side by side. In some parts of America Pagans have been able to be more open about what they do than in Europe, giving talks on TV, opening shops with neon Pentagram signs etc. yet in others have been subjected to persecution and abuse.

The Re-emergence of Paganism

The revival of Western Paganism is mainly due to the creation of Wicca, the nice modern name for Witchcraft. However Paganism is not Wicca; Wicca is an Occult form of Paganism.

The old religion was virtually wiped out by the church of Rome using a combination of propaganda, torture and genocide. Some people held on to the old religion. These were often the wisemen and women or Witches, the root 'wit' meaning 'wise'. The church became impatient and began a purge beginning around 1484 involving the burning of Witches and wholesale slaughter of thousands of people across Europe just on suspicion of being Witches. Not surprisingly, in the face of such oppression the old religion went 'underground' and Witches dedicated to preserving the religion formed themselves into secret groups called covens.

Christianity's purge was so successful that the old religion was virtually extinct by the 1900s but in 1899 a book was published by Charles Leland called 'The Gospel of Aradia' about Witches in Northern Italy who practised 'La Vecchia Religione' - the Old Religion. In 1921 an English historian, Margaret Murray published a book, 'The Witch Cult in Western Europe' in which she maintained that Witchcraft had been a religion. A British ex colonial administrator called Gerald Gardner supposedly revived Witchcraft and called it Wicca. In 1951 the laws against Witchcraft in Britain were repealed and he published a milestone book on the subject, 'Witchcraft Today'.

Since that time Wicca has grown in popularity and has encouraged the revival of the original Pagan roots and the re-emergence of other Pagan branches such as the Northern tradition and the modern Druids. A small commuter jet hit the first tower and a small commuter jet hit the Pentagon. Watch the tape that was on PBS again. Those 2 planes were landed in a remote location. The pilots of flight 93 got back control over the remote control so they had to shoot it down, or they could have testified that there plane was taken over REMOTELY. There were no highjackers on those planes. That is why the wreckage outside of Pittsburgh was spread out over 7 to 10 square miles. That was right in the Pittsburgh newspapers. That is not a ground collision. That is a mid air explosion.

A passenger called Todd Beamer on Flight 93 supposedly placed a 13 minute telephone call. To a phone operator. Who in the hell would spend the minutes of their life talking to a phone operator. Da get me my wife, father, mother, friend. Anyone but YOU!

It's A LIE!

At 9:42 EST, Mark Bingham phoned his mother, Alice. "Mom? This is Mark Bingham," the voice said. She knew he was flustered. "I want to let you know that I love you. I'm on a flight from Newark to San Francisco and there are three guys who have taken over the plane and they say they have a bomb."

Who would say "mom this is (and say their first and last name) How Stupid!

The phone calls are such a Joke! One guy said there were 3 hijackers another said 4. Da can you count. The Todd Beamer even said 27 passengers were prodded to the back of the plane. WHAT DID HE DO? COUNT THEM?

While Todd Beamer was on the phone with Lisa Jefferson, Tom Burnett called his wife again. "They're taking airplanes and hitting landmarks all up and down the East Coast," Deena told him. "OK," he replied. "We're going to do something. I'll call you back."

That's not true. They had only hit the World Trade Towers. Get some CIA Agents that aren't stupid PLEASE.

Lyz Glick was still on the phone with Jeremy. He told his wife to take care of Emmy, their 12-week-old daughter, and "have a good life." Lyz and Jeremy spoke of their love for each other. "I need you to be happy," he told her, "and I will respect any decisions that you make." Then he told her the passengers were taking a vote: Should they try to take back the plane?

What did they do: Vote in front of the Hijackers? And why would the Hijackers let them place phone calls to begin with. Did they want to get shot down or something? Da!

Sandy Bradshaw, one of the flight attendants, phone her husband, Phil. "Have you heard what's going on? My flight has been hijacked by three guys with knives," she said. "Who was flying the plane?" Phil asked his wife. "I don't know who's flying the plane or where we are," she said. Wiccan's Wheel Of The Year

The cycle of Wiccan Sabbats is commonly referred to as the Wheel of the Year. Time to us is cyclical, just as we view life as being cyclical. The Sabbats are solar festivals following the solar year, and so their mythology emphasizes the life cycle of the God, whom we associate with the sun.

The Wheel is not historical. The Sabbats take their names and some of their purposes from a variety of pagan holidays from a variety of cultures - the major Sabbats are more Celtic-based, while the minor Sabbats are more Germanic-based (Anglo / Saxon / Norse). This may explain some of the duplication of significances between adjoining major and minor Sabbats. As the sources are varied and independent, the neatly defined life cycle of God and Goddess throughout the year is a strictly Wiccan concept.

The Wheel is split into two halves for summer and winter, with the divisions occurring at Samhain and Beltaine. The two halves are ruled by a Light God and a Dark God, or the Goddess and God. Generally it is the God who rules winter, which is the period where historical people were more dependent upon hunting for survival, while the Goddess rules summer, which is the time of agriculture. I have seen this assignment reversed, however, as the God in young in winter while being older, wiser, and more mature in summer. I shall keep to the arrangement of God in winter and Goddess in summer.

Some traditions speak of the Holly and Oak Kings as the two rulers, with the split occurring at Yule and Litha. These two figures have no other real place in Wiccan mythology, so their addition when discussing the seasonal year seems to me to overly complicate things. So far as I can tell, they are in no way historical, but were suggested by Sir James Frazer, who influenced people like Margaret Murray and Robert Graves, the latter of which seems to have fleshed the two kings out.2 For these reasons I avoid them altogether.

The Wheel is composed of the four equinoxes and solstices as minor Sabbats, and the cross-quarter days as major Sabbats Books frequently list specific dates for the major Sabbats, but there is also an astronomical method, which puts the cross-quarter days more closely in-between the minor Sabbats The strict assignment of major Sabbats to specific days is probably modern. Samhain, for example, was a celebration of the end of the harvest. The harvest wasn't completed on the same day every year. Some years the crops took longer to mature than others, or fewer hands were available to assist in the harvesting.

Those unfamiliar with Wicca will almost certainly notice the similarity between Wiccan and Christian holidays. This is because both religions were heavily influenced by the same pagan sources.

Our days start at sundown on the previous day. Therefore, "November 1" is actually the night of October 31 through the day of November 1. Also, the dates given here are only applicable in the northern hemisphere. For the southern hemisphere, Sabbats are generally celebrated 6 months off from the traditional dates.

Samhain (sow' en) - Major Sabbat
15 degrees of Scorpio, or November 1
Wiccan mythology: The death of the God
Samhain is the Wiccan New Year and the Feast of the Dead. It is a time to honor and to say goodbye to loved ones who have passed on, especially if their deaths have occurred within the last year. Samhain is also a time for reflecting upon the last year, making plans for the upcoming one, and especially for banishing weaknesses or other undesired qualities within us.

How is it we start the year with a festival revolving around death? Death is necessary for rebirth, and the two frequently happen simultaneously. In many pagan cultures, the new year was celebrated with chaotic festivities bringing on a symbolic end of the world. The Roman Saturnalia is one example.

The Goddess enters her Dark phase as she mourns her son and consort, and the Dark God takes up the rulership of Winter, leading the Wild Hunt of the Fey upon the earth.

Yule - Minor Sabbat
Also know as Midwinter
Winter solstice (around December 22)
Wiccan mythology: The birth of the God
Yule is a celebration of life emerging from darkness and is honored with the exchange of presents. Evergreens, holly, ivy and mistletoe can be symbolic of the God, still living and green in the dead of winter.

Imbolc (im' molc) or (im' bolc) - Major Sabbat
15 degrees of Aquarius, or February 1
Wiccan mythology: Goddess recovers from childbirth, becomes Maiden.
Imbolc is the beginning of Spring. The child God continues to mature, as can be witnessed in the lengthening days, and celebrations frequently center around light. The Crone Goddess of Winter makes way for the Maiden, who has recovered from childbirth and prepares the earth to begin its growth cycle once more. Imbolc is therefore also a holiday of purification, a stripping away of the old in anticipation of the new.

Historically, Imbolc was an Irish holiday specifically dedicated to Brigid or Bride, goddess of creativity, smithing, and healing.

Eostara (os tar' a) - Minor Sabbat
Vernal equinox (around March 22)
Wiccan mythology: Sexual union of the Goddess and God (sometimes)
Eostara is a celebration of fertility, conception and regeneration as the earth recovers from winter and begins to bloom. It is also a triumph of light over dark as from now until Litha days will be longer than the nights.

In former days, Eostara was a time of sowing and planting. Today, Eostara is a time for putting plans into motion, sowing the seeds of ideas that may not reach fruition for many months.

The name Eostara is a misnomer. It's named for the goddess Eostre, but her festival wasn't associated with the equinox. In fact, there may never have been a festival called Eostara at all.

The union of Goddess and God varies by tradition. A few date it as early as Imbolc. Some attribute it to Eostara, others to Beltaine. Eostara has the benefit of being 9 months prior to Yule, when the Goddess gives birth.

Beltaine - Major Sabbat
15 degrees of Taurus, or May 1
Wiccan mythology: Sexual union and/or marriage of the Goddess and God
Beltaine, the start of Summer, is the most important Sabbat after Samhain. It is another fertility celebration, but mostly it is a celebration of joy and life. Named for the Celtic fire god Bel, the lighting of fires is a frequent component of Beltaine events. It's association with fire also makes Beltaine a holiday of purification.

It must be remembered that even our modern interpretations of these holidays are based on older holidays celebrated at a time when the year was marked by seasonal changes, not a calendar on the wall. On the continent, where Eostre was worshipped, the earth has generally returned to life by the vernal equinox. However, in Celtic Britain, the ground is still cold in March, and so Beltaine becomes the great festival of life, when Goddess and God have matured to unite as one.

On Beltaine, the Light God has matured to the age of rulership and takes over from the Dark God. The pregnant Goddess becomes Mother.

Wiccan weddings are frequently held on or around Beltaine.

Litha - Minor Sabbat
Also known as Midsummer
Summer solstice (around June 22)
Wiccan mythology: Apex of the God's life
Celebrating the God's life, Litha is another fire festival. It is a holiday of transition, when the God transforms from young warrior to aging sage. It is a time for rejoicing, but also of introspection, making sure plans are still on track and correcting negative aspects of one's life.

Litha is a modern name for this Sabbat There is no historical record of the name as a holiday. It might be derived from the Anglo-Saxon term Lida or Litha which referenced the time period of early summer.

Lughnasadh (loo' na sah) or (loon' sah) - Major Sabbat
Also known as Lammas
15 degrees of Leo, or August 1
Wiccan mythology: Aging God
Lughnasadh is the start of Autumn and was the time of the first harvest, and so this is a holiday of fruition and also of preparation for the oncoming winter, as well as the God's impending death. The Goddess enters her phase as Crone. It is a time of giving thanks for all that we have, all that we will have, and all that others have sacrificed for us.

Mabon - Minor Sabbat
Autumnal equinox (around September 22)
Wiccan mythology: Decline of the God
Mabon was the second harvest, and as such becomes another holiday of thanksgiving. It is also the day when darkness once more overtakes light, and so it is a day of planning, reflection, and the contemplation of mysteries.

While a minor Sabbat, Mabon is named after a Celtic, not Germanic, god who was imprisoned only to return at a later date. The name does not appear to have been historically attributed to any festival.

Choosing Your Wiccan Name

Now many people will disagree upon these principles of practice, but since you asked I will try to shed some light on the subjects. Your Elemental sign/color should correspond to your zodiac or birth sign. As for a name, the primary reason many Wiccans and Witches choose a magickal name is so they can better differentiate between their time as Suzy Smith, full time student with a full time job and Eriana, Priestess of the Goddess and God.

Today, many religions in the world believe in the three-fold human, made up of mind, body, and spirit. Here we are going to cover the three kinds of Magickal names; first is your Craft name, second is your Coven name, Circle name or Grove name and third is your True name. As many Wiccans and Witches within the Craft have special names there are as many who don’t; it’s actually about choice.

A Craft name is the name that you use when performing magick and/or ritual. Usually this name is shared with others in the Craft, especially those Wiccans and Witches you choose to work magick with. Remember you do not have to share your Craft name with other Wiccans or Witches, even if they are ones you work with.

A Coven name is the name that you will use within your Coven, Circle or Grove. This particular name is the name that you would use when working with your Coven, Circle or Grove. It can be the same as your craft name, or it can be different. This is the name that you use while working ritual and/or magick with your coven and the name that the other members of your Coven, Circle or Grove use for you while you are working together.

A Wiccans or Witches true name is never revealed to anyone unless you trust them with your very being and this name is used only in private. This is because if a person finds out your true name they could use it in powerful naming magick.

Some people also use numerology with their birth date in order to figure out a magickal name. What is Numerology really; it is the art of divination by examining the numbers associated with words, names, and other things. The most common Western version of numerology works by the following method:

Let’s say your birth date is 7-20-1970
7 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 0 = 26

Now you add the numbers together until you get a single digit.
2 + 6 = 8

Which the total makes your birth number an 8!

Now that you know what your birth number is, let's see if your magickal name adds up to the same value as your birth number. Traditionally when you enter the Craft, you take on a new name that is equal your birth number so that you would be in perfect balance.

Craftsmanship (another known term for Wicca) has several features :

1. In Wicca there is a hierarchy (I am talking about classic Wicca, namely Old Faith). In coven (Wicca Organization) there are usually primary priest or priestess. They head the Sabbaths (Wheel of the year holiday).

2. In Wiccan texts there is a direct reference to the ethical standards (a commandment), which is bound by a witch (if she is good).

3. In Wicca there are canons of "netting" spells, as We believe that we should follow our route, drawing on the experience of those who went before us.

4. Wicca is very tolerant to other religions, as they believe that all gods are one of the incarnations of the Great Spirit.

5. Old Faith rejects violence. The origins of the religion dates back to the days when the main power in the society was in women hands. The women understand the value of life, as they brought a new life.

The law clearly states that a witch, that preaches Wicca should not kill. She can do so only on two occasions as motivated by hunger (this applies to animals) and in the event of an attack.

6. The moral of Wicca is very different from Christian. We (wiccans) do not accept slave obedience to God, as in most prayers of the Bible, a direct reference to the absolute god. Gods are our parents, not owners. They need love, not subordination.

7. Wiccan would not suggest other cheek when it get hit. Although we do not accept violence, but self-defense is acceptable!

8. We are not alien to human joy.

9. Most Wiccans do not eat meat, but not all! We believe that all life is part of the Great Spirit. (I won't raise disputes about eating vegetables, which are also part of the Great Spirit. They are needed to live.

A lack of meat in food (verified by the experience) does not result in death.!)

10. Wiccans are not extremist, we DO NOT believe in Satan, and we do NOT worship him.

11. We do not accept the deliberate destruction of the body (to the issue of drugs, smoking and alcohol, which destroys the body). Yes, we use wine in their ceremonies, but this is happens eight times a year, and it is a very small portion. The wine in small doses provides therapeutic effect (it is that small). Yet, it should be noted that Neo Wiccans replace the wine with various juices, which is also acceptable.

12. Wiccans believe in reincarnation, that is, that our souls after the death of the body (shell) does not die, and after a short rest will return to the earth to live again, but in a different body. Sometimes, the soul enters the country eternal summer, and remains forever with the Great Spirit. This is due to the fact that their life was righteous and life committed to performing their duty. The main postulate in Old Faith is the witch credo "An it harm none, do what you will" - (do what you want, just do no harm). For clarity any Wiccan regardless what branch he belonged, had no right to cause any harm (spiritual, physical, emotional), except in case of self-defense. Each Wiccan believes in the law of three ( "The rule of three"), which indicates that the damage given will cause three times more damage. Wiccan of clear mind does not induce black magic (he is not a suicide bomber!) . This is shortly of what is "Wicca", and in particular the Old Faith. This small amount of information gives a superficial vision of what is Crafts.

The Gothic Subculture

In areas like sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, a subculture is a group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong. According to Wikipedia, if a particular subculture is characterized by a systematic opposition to the dominant culture, it may be described as a counterculture. But anyways, Im here to present the subcultures commonly misunderstood, and these subcultures have few things in common. To wit, they are the Gothic and Punk subcultures.

Ideology
Defining an explicit ideology for the gothic subculture is difficult for several reasons. First is the overwhelming importance of mood and aesthetic for those involved. But I will just tackle this subculture in its overview, don't wanna get involved for things that is very sacred to many.

But to wit, I have here 5 points that many of us should know about the Gothic community and its followers. These are the only things I can think of as of this minute while I'm writing this article. Hope I could add some more. But I'll try to update this entry in the following days. ^^,

1.) Goths, in terms of their membership in the subculture, are usually not supportive of violence, but rather tolerant. Many in the media have incorrectly associated the Goth subculture with violence, hatred of minorities, and other acts of hate.

2.) Violence and hate do not form elements of goth ideology; rather, the ideology is formed in part by recognition, identification, and grief over societal and personal evils that the mainstream culture wishes to ignore or forget. These are the prevalent themes in goth music.

3.) The goth subculture has no pronounced political messages or cries for social activism. Goths may, indeed, have political leanings ranging from left-wing to right-wing, but they do not express them specifically as part of a cultural identity it's a personal choice and all goths respect that.

4.) The subculture is marked by its emphasis on individualism, tolerance for diversity, a strong emphasis on creativity, tendency toward intellectualism, and a mild tendency towards cynicism, but even these ideas are not universal to all goths.

5.) Religion, is seen as a matter of personal conscience. And therefore not all goths are affiliated to the so-called demonic or satanic cults. The gothic community is well-diversified although there are a few followers of Satanism and the likes but we dont have the right to judge their practices if we really haven't had any good understanding about their philosophy. So basically, everything is just about tolerance, respect and acceptance.

6.) Goth fashion is stereotyped as a dark, sometimes morbid, eroticized fashion and style of dress. Typical gothic fashion includes dyed black hair, dark eyeliner, black fingernails, black period-styled clothing; goths may or may not have piercings.

A simple, factual explanation of what Paganism actually is. It is pure information written for anyone who is non Pagan or who is Pagan but wants to know more. It is not meant to impress or proselytise.

In simplest terms Paganism is a religion of place, or a native religion, for example the Native American's religion is Pagan, Hinduism is a form of Paganism. All Pagan religions are characterised by a connection and reverence for nature, and are usually polytheistic i.e. have many Gods and/or Goddesses.

Modern Paganism as practised in the west is particular to the native peoples of the west and although there are many forms most are descended from Celtic origins. Modern Paganism or 'neo-Paganism' has the following characteristics:

1. Paganism is a religion of nature, in other words Pagans revere Nature. Pagans see the divine as immanent in the whole of life and the universe; in every tree, plant, animal and object, man and woman and in the dark side of life as much as in the light. Pagans live their lives attuned to the cycles of Nature, the seasons, life and death.

2. Unlike the patriarchal religions (Christianity, Islam, Judaism) the divine is female as well as male and therefore there is a Goddess as well as a God. These deities are within us as well as without us (immanent); they are us. They are not simply substitutes for the Muslim or Judeo-Christian God. This is because the Gods of the major religions tend to be super-natural i.e. above nature whereas Pagan deities are natural, symbolizing aspects of nature or human nature. Having said that God and Goddess are split from the Great Spirit or Akashka which probably equates to the God of the patriarchal religions.

3. The Goddess represents all that is female and the God represents all that is male. But because nature is seen as female the Goddess has a wider meaning. Often called Mother Earth or Gaia she is seen as the creatrix and sustainer of life, the mother of us all which makes all the creatures on the planet our siblings.

4. There are sub-groups of named Gods and Goddesses called Pantheons, drawn from the distant past, for example Isis and Osiris from Egypt or Thor, Odin, Freya et al from Norse religion and mythology. Ancient Pagans would have worshipped one or a small number of Gods and Goddesses, whilst often recognizing the validity of other people's deities. The concept of an overall, un-named Goddess and God, the sum totals of all the others, appears to be a recent one but individual named deities represent particular human qualities or archetypes and are often used as a focus for celebrations and spiritual rites.

5. Paganism has developed alongside mankind for thousands of years; as cultures have changed so has Paganism, yet it is grounded in deep rooted genetic memories that go back to neolithic times and before. Thus Paganism is not just a nature religion but a natural religion.

6. Paganism in the west takes a number of forms including Wicca, Druidism, and Shamanism.

7. To Pagans the four ancient elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water have special significance. The importance of these is hard to define because they have so many correspondences, for example they are associated with the four directions, North, East, South and West. Each element is a kind of spiritual substance from which all things are made especially ourselves and at the same time are Guardians both of ourselves and of the Goddess and God, and guarding the gateways between this world and the other world.

8. Many Pagans believe in reincarnation in some form. It gives Pagans a substantially different view of life. Early Christians saw Karma as a kind of treadmill, trapping people in endless reincarnations, never free. But Pagans see reincarnation as, at best, a chance to improve or to continue unfinished work, and at worst just a simple re-cycling of souls.

Just take it simple, hell is just a dogmatic propaganda by our religious people long before we’re born… ang galing nga ng mga people noon, they have instilled to us the fear due to their well-versed "religion", and that is Christianity…

I don’t want to start up any fight but i just deemed this necessary for me to share my point of views. Its up to you guys if you will continue to be blinded… Wait can i ask something? Is anyone here knew or just care to read verses or chapters from the bible, and does anyone here knew the history of the Bible itself? Well, i knew a bit of it, but di nmn mashadu kc for a year or two ive been concentrating only in finding the truth of MY life’s existence and purpose. Also, i’m seeking for the real path towards a dynamic spiritual-life that is capable of lessening doubts and make me a True Man using my True Will without any demands or conditions.

Ive been studying Christianity and other religions, wether Fundamentalists or Paganic religions(esp. Wiccan)…Thus, my main observation is that Christianity just want us to die and believe that there is after life… and for my own opinion is not justifiable… it’s up to you to explore and see if the path you are taking is clear enough for you to believe, ‘til then you can understand why we need to live our life to the fullest…

Come to think of this:

1. When Lucifer (Satan), want to be equal with God, Lucifer was thrown away from heaven, of course, Lucifer at that instance wanted to have some followers too, right? If he wanted to have followers by collecting souls of sinners (unpure souls of man) why will he put the sinners into hell (hell being Satan’s lair) and let them be punished… He should, instead, treat the sinners kindly and nicely in such a way that he can have his nice followers, right?… The main point for this, maybe, is that just ancient people just want to contrast the characteristic of their God to someone characterizing the opposite, for them to inject fear to those who will not follow their so-called "doctrines of righteousness"…They’re just merely using some stuffs that will help them promote any ‘vague plans’ they have in mind.

2. God and Satan (logically) just wanted to have followers, and God being the creator of everything in the universe including Satan (Lucifer), should not just waste all of his creations especially the ‘humans’, just to call them sinners after the ‘humans’ die and eventually, their souls be given to Satan! And beside if God(omnipresent, omniscient, Most High, Most Powerful, etc…) is the creator of all things and lifeforms, physical and spiritual lifeforms (souls or spirits)… he could just wish for things to happen and with a snap of his hand, Satan will disappear right??? So how could someone prove that really ‘hell’ exist.

3. In the Christian perspective, if every human life have souls, then every new human being born to this world will also have soul? Right? Also, after humans die, their souls will be judge by God wether they will go to Heaven or Hell. Right? If their soul will just stay either in Heaven or Hell for eternity, then it means with each new individual born, the number of souls created all in all increased right? Is the underworld(hell) and heaven too spacious enough to contain increasing numbers of souls? With the passage in the Bible that says "only few are called to be saved" (am i right with these? ^_^), it means there are more souls in Hell than in Heaven right? Thus, Hell now is too populous already with every human dying. ^_^

4. Is it true that hell, like the media and the Christian priest have told, preached, and had educated us, is characterize by a dark ambience, barren lands, mountainous geographical setting ^^, and lots of souls are marching there? How could they knew about this? We’re in fact, the bible, didn’t describe HELL with too much specificity. Maybe, someone have gone there, according to some real-life experiences, and told us something bout it… Right? But… it’s still a vague issue for me…

5. Would anyone explain to me the issue between what is good and bad? What is moral for you and immoral to others??? And what kind of actions in regards to the modern times, are considered good or bad in the eyes of God? ^_^

"Christianity in the Mainstream"

Christianity, in general, has played a vital role in the spiritual formation of a greater proportion of human race. Christianity, which is according to the Roman Catholic teachings, was already discerned by God through St. Peter (after the "baptism scene" in the Jordan River), was just a human-organized ‘religion’ for me. Humans who at that time was just in control and using this power to pacify his own personal intentions (related to Constantine and his empire). This intentions, maybe controlling a bunch of people, to merely extend his colony and power. What is the essence for a leader originally coming from an old set of beliefs and practices, and eventually surrendering that dogmas after agreeing to start a new convention? A convention for procurring new sets of beliefs or dogmas. A personal change maybe! A change for what? Why? Maybe we should be present those days for us to guess right? *lols*

Christianity , and other fundamentalists religions as well, are really hard-to-bend ones. But if we will open-up our shells and explore, we will learn that its teachings, maybe part or the whole of them, are vague… If you do, pls open your "Bible" and examine thoroughly… there are many contradictions there!

Conclusions

With these facts here and in my mind, still, i am not convince of the idea of HeLL as well as heaven. My simple idea for this, is that after we die, our souls will go to a certain place where we are prepared for the after life or "rebirth". ISSUEs on GOD…

A comment of mine from a really provoking blog entitled "Without a God".

Ei…you really are good in expressing your thoughts! I’ve just opened my friendster and your blog provoked me well. I hope you can have time reading my comment! This is open for all to read which is my own opinion to share with you all!

Well, haven’t we noticed why there are many religions present right now? It’s because of the many perceptions or P.O.V. of different individuals… Well as for me, all of these religions perceived one main concept…the presence of a Supreme Being, maybe a deity or deities…and is portrayed in different manners. But there are those ATHEISTs, those who strongly condemn a presence of a deity. Why am i telling this??? It’s because i assume that joining any religion is like commencing a war. For me, i believe that "the unity of human hearts is possible but the unity of human minds is unattainable". Even if we believe in a God/Goddess/Deity/Deties or not, we just need respect on each other’s personal beliefs/dogmas… This issue of the presence of God is never-ending because as i’ve mentioned the unity of human minds is just too good to be true. Humans i guessed was created to seek, to experience, to reveal, and for many other tasks, which completes a true purpose of a human being.

But, nevertheless, i still want to share my personal prerogatives about these stuffs. I firmly believe personally, that a Supreme Being is present or existing…not a God alone, not a Goddess alone but a Supreme Being, which is omnipresent, in any form, is there in everything and represents every creation in the universe. These dogmas are very familiar to PAGAN-minded individuals. As for me, i’m not going to introduce or provoke anyone to compell or go against with another religion…We are not needing war right now, we need understanding and respect right per se!

In the midst of these clashing of human minds, we need a serene and calm setting of human hearts…That’s where PEACE AND UNITY will start… So in general, even if you adhere to any idealogy, wether a God/Goddess/Deity/Deities is existing or not…it’s all up to you…
