Ottawa is poised to spend $6.75-million on a much-anticipated expansion of the Trans Canada Trail network through several Rocky Mountain towns in Alberta.Yesterday, federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice announced plans for the Banff Legacy Trail, which will allow outdoor enthusiasts on foot, bike or blade, to travel about 80 kilometres mostly alongside the Trans-Canada Highway from Canmore to Lake Louise.

Flowers and shrubs wilted under wet snow yesterday in Alberta as the temperature in the provincial capital at one point hovered around freezing - just one degree warmer than the Arctic community of Iqaluit.
