Oh golly gee. Lucky me. My friends, this is the most wonderful time of the year - it's new season announcements time. Upfronts. Schedules unveiled. Clips and cast lists offered. Thing is, see, at this time of the year, every new show could be a classic.

BASEBALL / EARLIER START TIMES FOR POSTSEASON GAMES

Most World Series and American League Championship Series games will have an earlier start on Fox this year.The U.S. network said yesterday that weeknight games will begin at 7:57 p.m. (all times Eastern), more than a half-hour before last year's first-pitch times. The start of Saturday night games could be even earlier, and Sunday games will continue to begin following the conclusion of the network's NFL coverage.

Bedtime for hard times?Later this month, talk-show host Jay Leno will hand over The Tonight Show to Conan O'Brien and launch a 10 p.m. show instead, CNN.com reports, adding: ''Making people laugh before they go to bed is still the mission. ''To me, 10 o'clock is like the new 11:30,' Leno said. ''I hear more and more people, even young people, say, ''I can't stay up past 11. I carpool. I gotta get up at 6.' ''
