mwente@globeandmail.comI'm a glass-half-empty kind of person.For example, a couple of weeks ago my husband and I miraculously sold our house. I celebrated for half an hour and then began to worry. Where would we go to live? Would we be homeless? And why had we agreed to sell it in the first place? We love that house! We must have been deranged.

When Paul McCartney and his wife showed up in 2006 to embrace a cuddly little white-coat, the creature tried to bite them. Good riddance, I thought. Too bad they didn't get stuck to the ice by their high-tech mitts. If they're so opposed to animal abuse, why aren't they protesting against foie gras?
