The title of the globe is:
7 DAYS * 36 FAMILIES * 100 POUNDS
This refers back to the begining of this project and the collection of the junk mail I used to create the globe. I realized that with restarting the globe THREE (YES 3) times, I covered the surface of the sphere at least twelve times and did NOT use all the junk mail that was collected.
***FYI: The surface area of the globe is roughly 80 SQ. FT. ***

IT'S FINISHED!!! and what a long strange trip it's been.....

So this is what is left. My plan is to sand and prime tomorrow in order to star again. The thing about all of this is the the pieces i pulling off of the globe are amazing!!!! I already have so many ideas about what I want to create out of all the pieces!

So after much discussion with other artist, the creator of the globes and Golden Acrylic's tech help, I think what happened is a combination of no primer, the release agent on the globe, wall paper paste, magazine paper and water.....it just didn't jive together....SO, I spent Sunday pealing off the layers of paper.

So I was working on the globe and as I was tearing the paper it began to come completely off the globe. (YIKES!)

More layers of color and mail. I tear and sand the mail layers and as paint is added I also wipe it off the surface. This gives the paper a variety of textures and therefore paint is absorbed differently.

After going through the junk mail, I realized that there are a variety of types of junk mail. The 1st layer of the globe is going to be covered with flyers. You know the ones that say "SHOP LOCALLY" and are filled with sale notices.

My empty globe @ "camp cool globes", a warehouse that is being used by many of the artists, since the globes are 5ft. in diameter and will not fit through many doors. I just wanted to drop off my supplies and I ended up starting to attach the 1st layer.

In one week, Feb. 2nd - Feb. 9th, the families 0f Chicago Jewish Day School have been collecting JUNK MAIL for my COOL GLOBE: NO JUNK MAIL. 28 bags were returned today and with help from the third grade all were weighed, resulting in a total of 82 1/2 LBS. !WOW! all of this would have been thrown out and/or recycled.

The topic of my globe is: NO MORE JUNK MAIL! The idea is to show visually the waste that is created by the amount of junk mail that is produced. My plan is to collect junk mail from the families of the school where I teach art for one week and to use this to create a collage on my globe. The hope is that that visual impact will inspire people to find ways to reduce the amount of junk mail received by a household. The links listed are a few places to start.
DID YOU KNOW:

The average person gets only 1.5 personal letters each week, compared to 10.8 pieces of junk mail.
Each person will receive almost 560 pieces of junk mail this year.
That's 4.5 million tons of junk mail produced each year!
44% of all junk mail is thrown in the trash, unopened and unread.
Approximately 40% of the solid mass that makes up our landfills is paper and paperboard waste.
By the year 2010, it is predicted to make up about 48%.
100 million trees are ground up each year to produce junk mail.
