Kurt Vile “In My Time”

This song sounds a little like it could have been written by an ex-druggie ’60s folk singer, or … Kurt Vile. Listening to it, I’m lying in the grass, I’m looking at the stars; I’m sitting in a rocking chair on a porch somewhere, sounding grizzled, and telling some youngin’ about the good old days. Kurt Vile isn’t saying a lot, mostly just conveying something that can’t be put in words, but somehow makes it into this song.

“In My Time” is the A-side of a single by the same name being released by Matador on October 25. Kurt Vile is better known as the lead singer of The War on Drugs.

Spider Bags “Take It Easy Tonite”

Spider Bags’ new single will be out in two days (Tuesday, Oct. 19), so I’m getting this post in just under the wire. I’m ashamed to admit that the band has been around since at least 2005 and I’ve only just heard of them. I’d say using anything with the word “country” to describe this Chapel Hill-based band is pushing it, but the song is a fun-filled post-hangover anthem, and I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more.

Either Katy Goodman aspires to be Jenny Lewis 2.0 (she of the redheaded brigade and many, many musical side projects) or she’s just incredibly restless: in addition to her continued work with Vivian Girls and All Saints Day, she’s also recording as La Sera. Of course, all the blog-kids are all over this most recent development and I am so behind the times. Personally, I’m finding the aesthetic of La Sera very appealing, and can’t wait to see where it goes!
