Big Ticket items cost a fortune to buy, or you need a lot of luck.

If gold were no object, then everyone would want the best, most expensive gear upgrades and vanity mounts and battle pets.

Long Tail Items for AH

Long Tail items are plentiful.  Their value is not immediately apparent.  They are not universally sought after.  You may have to post them several times in order to find the right buyer.  Or you may have to post them at a low price.

Where the long tail works extremely well is in the Mogging Market.  To be as brief and succinct as possible, you buy green items cheap, and resell them at a bigger price because their true value is greater than their generally perceived value, due to their visuals.

Expensive or Cheap?

It’s not as simple as Expensive or Cheap.

Some cheap items are cheap because the seller does not realise their true value.

Some expensive items will be superceded by new expensive items in the next patch and become comparatively worthless.

Many times, when you are selling an expensive item, you are really only selling Boasting Privs, or More DPS, or I got it First.  When you are selling Long Tail items, you are selling Rental of Your Storage Space,  Understanding How Important This Item Is, and If I Keep Re-Posting This I Will Go Insane

What if if it doesn’t sell?

Expensive Items

• You have to post it again.
• More of your gold is tied up in stock.

Cheap Items

• Chances are, some will sell.
• With experience, you can roughly estimate what percentage will sell, even though you don’t know which exact items will sell.
• You can reinvest this gold.

The Big Ticket Seller thinks “what can I get cheaply, sell fast, and make a huge profit?”

The Long Tail Seller thinks “what can I get really cheap, that people will need, and no one else will be selling?”

Should you be a Big Ticket Seller? Or a Long Tail Seller?

Both.

I believe you should cover Harrods market, and put as much time into the Walmart market as you can spare.

Automate your Long Tail, and give personal attention to your Big Tickets.

Should you sell off your cheap stock?

YES if:

• you don’t have time to do them all
• they’re starting to annoy you
• you’re experiencing Burn Out

NO if:

• you dont want to lose any gold
• you can’t bear to see your competitor buying it, then reselling for a profit

Raiding Burn Out

Pretty common, caused by pushing yourself too hard, not knowing your physical limits, and using the stress as a driving force too often.

If you must go to the after-raid heroic, or rated battleground, then leave before the happy-rush of the raid success turns sour.  You have work, school, and a life to get to in the morning! Three hours sleep never made a good raider.  So what if your warlock class leader stays up until 5am and does ALL the weeks heroics in one night?

It can be frustrating when you slip from top dps to second, or your guild is no longer server first.  Don’t take it personally. Two hours less sleep will not make you raid better. Resolve to do a little more research before the next raid, to spend another 15 minutes on the dummies practicing, or to play a FPS game pre-raid to sharpen your reaction skills. Tearing your hair out is not allowed.  Neither is going to bed with your raid leader’s insults rattling around in your brain. Give yourself wind-down time: reading a book, listening to music, or, ahem, whatever else you like to do in bed before you sleep.

Gold Making Burn Out

“If it feels more like work than fun, you’re doing it wrong” say my twitter readers.

Whilst true, not very helpful.

Blizzard have introduced no limit on the number of daily quests you can complete.  You could be online all day and always find more quests to complete, more mobs to kill, more areas to farm, more hours in the AH.

This list is for my personal benefit, but you might find it helpful too:

• Limit yourself to 2,000 auction items. This includes glyphs.
• Only do the daily quests that you enjoy. Then stop.
• Reward yourself with some PvP, a heroic, or some raiding. Change the scenery.
• Visit some of the beautiful places in Azeroth. Choose Nagrand, Mulgore, Teldrassil, Hinterlands, Grizzly Hills, Hyjal and Jade Forest.  Not Silithus, Dread Wastes and Icecrown.
• Give your alts some love.

What to do

Recognise your limits. Work with them, rather than against them.  Recognise that it’s good to have limits, not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength to have a truthful knowledge of your abilities.

What not to do

It’s ok to take a break, but don’t let the break take you.

Since my last post on this blog, I let the “break take me”, and wallowed around in self pity for days, feeling overwhelmed and stressed.  Er, don’t do this.

Drink

Alcohol is a depressant

Alcohol causes further depression.  It seems the easy way out, to veg out in front of the TV with a beer or another bottle of wine. You don’t need to stop drinking forever, just until you feel yourself again. The sooner you put that bottle aside, the sooner you’ll be back to your own self.  Just set it aside for a few days.

If you find yourself turning up to a raid drunk twice in a row, then complete the “Challenge Mode” I set: go sober next time.

May I recommend

Limit yourself to 15 minute bursts of activity.

If you don’t want to look silly (like me) and have an actual kitchen timer on your desk, you can use this online timer.  http://www.thegoldqueen.com/15m

Once your 15 minutes is up, move on to the next task.  Do not continue to kill virmen “just in case” the next one drops that last juicycrunch carrot.  It won’t. And if it does, you don’t care, because you can buy one in the AH from all the gold you’re about to make.

Make yourself a checklist. Use my one if you like. I have a free “cheatsheet” that you can get when you sign up to regular updates and newsletters from me.

Keep rewarding yourself.  You’re making more gold every day.

Thanks Carl. Invisibility Potion is one of the few expensive potions that I sell. The others that sell for consistently good prices are Elixir of Giant Growth, Pygmy Oil, Ethereal Oil, Potion of Illusion, Deepstone Oil, and Darkwater Potion. These are all alchemist recipes which have a constant demand due to their unusual effects.

The Elixir of Giant Growth and Deepstone Oil potions especially sell well together, if you can put together a good sales pitch for trade chat.  Innuendos abound. I shan’t repeat them here in case readers have delicate dispositions!

Darkwater Potion is the newest potion to be added to the list. The materials are 3 Desecrated Oil per potion.  2 Desecrated Oil are made by alchemists with 3 Spinefish.  Spinefish can be caught by anglers, with the highest drop rate in Kun-lai Summit Spinefish Schools at Firebough Nook and Inkgill Mere (also Dread Waste’s Lake of Stars and Rikkitun Village).

Invisibility Potion Effects

Invisibility Potion makes the drinker invisible for 18 seconds. Opening chests, attacking, shifting forms, or taking damage will break invisibility. It is made by Alchemists with a skill level of 235.

I wonder if you can be an invisible Jinyu Assassin with Giant Growth? Anyone tried it?

My secret farming spot was discovered by the public on my server today.

It’s not exactly a hidden location, but the drops, respawn, and weakness of the mobs was my special pride.

As I was passing today on one of my alts, a skinner/miner gatherer, I discovered my secret was out!

Why farm them?

• XP for level 85/86s
• Spirit of Harmony for level 90s
• Raw Turtle Meat in enough quantities to create baskets and baskets of groceries for the Tillers
• Grey vendor items
• Chance of greens

and for skinners

• Sha-touched leather
• Exotic Leather
• Tiny chance of Magnificent Hide (1-2 per hour)
• Plump Intenstines, with vendor trash or 1g+ inside

How to Farm Wyrmhorn Turtle

• Unless you are level 90, you may be happier in a group.
• Grab one tank/dps, one aoe and one dps/healer.
• Have your aoe’r pull everything in to your tank.
• Splat
• Repeat until your bags are bursting

Turtle Leather Farming Spot

You can find this spot at a small pond/lake in Valley of the Four Winds. The turtle lake is between Pools of Purity and the Grassy Cline. It’s semi-hidden behind a big rock.

Turtles spawn all over the lake. There are three pulling points. At the far west, the far east, and north east.

If you get bored of turtles, expand into the Mushan slightly south and east of the area. Fly or run to Halfhill Market to dump your loot and leather in the mailbox.
 

Tips for farming

Bring your Argent Squire (pony up!) with you, or a portable mailbox so you can mail things to your alt/s.

Bring a traveller’s tundra mammoth or guild page or some other vendor with you.

Wyrmhorn Turtle Drops

In 3 hours I amassed  2,000 exotic leather, 7,000 sha-touched, 3 magnificent hides, 100g+ in vendor crap.  I spent 2 hours skinning, and 1 hour killing. I got 24 mote of harmony in that hour, and about 1/4 of a level from 85 to 86.

The Jeweled Onyx Panther Mount is hailed as the gold sink of Mists of Pandaria.

Jewelcrafters can craft 4 rare panthers: Sunstone, Jade, Ruby and Sapphire, and an epic panther mount, the Jeweled Onyx.

All are Bind on Equip.

Requires Honored, Order of the Cloud Serpent, to buy pattern (200g). Jewelcrafting 600 to make mount.

Orb of Mystery + 4 Living Steel + 2 Serpent’s Eye + EITHER 20 Wild Jade (Jade Mount) OR 20 Sun’s Radiance (Sunstone Mount).

Sapphire Panther Mount, Ruby  Panther Mount

Requires Revered, Order of the Cloud Serpent, to buy pattern (200g).  Jewelcrafting 600 to make mount.

Orb of Mystery + 4 Living Steel + 2 Serpent’s Eye + EITHER 20 Primordial Ruby (Ruby Mount) OR 20 River’s Heart (Sapphire Mount).

For the Jeweled Onyx Panther Mount, you will need another one of each four mounts.  Reagents: 1 Sunstone Panther, 1 Jade Panther, 1 Ruby Panther, 1 Sapphire Panther.

This means that in order to learn all five jewelcrafting mounts, you will need 2 each of the red, yellow, blue and green panthers.

Jewelcrafting Mount Mats Costs

Orb of Mystery 20,000g

Only sold by one NPC, Big Keech.  Big Keech is a goblin, not affiliated with any faction (sorry, no discounts!) and he patrols the road north of the Golden Pagoda in Vale of Eternal Blossoms (ie near the new capital city).

 Living Steel is created by alchemists with Transmute: Living Steel. Mats are either 6 Trillium Bars (daily cooldown) or 3 Trillium Bars & 3 Spirit of Harmony (no cooldown).  You need 4 of these per panther mount.

Serpents Eyes are made by combining ten pieces of Sparkling Shard. Jewelcrafters get these when prospecting Mists of Pandaria ore. Kyparite, Black Trillium Ore, White Trillium Ore, Ghost Iron Ore.

The final part for the mounts is 20 rare gems in the right color.

I love the new Panther Mounts and have already bought my first. Too eager to wait for my reputation to unlock, I paid for another jewelcrafter to make it.  I have better things to do all day than hunt Onyx Eggs for Cloud Serpent reputation.   However, now my ego has been satisfied, I will wait to create the Jeweled Onyx Panther mount for myself. Only another 2-3 weeks of faction grinding left *sigh*

Which colour will you get first? May I recommend the yellow because “yellow is the new red” and the yellow mounts are currently underpriced in the AH.

Background to the Mysterious Essence Shuffle

In Wrath of the Lich King we had the saronite shuffle.

In Cataclysm we had the elementium shuffle.

In Mists of Pandaria I see three shuffles so far:

1. The Spirit of Harmony Shuffle
2. The Ironpaw Shuffle
3. and the Enchanters Shuffle.

Mysterious Essence and the Enchanters Shuffle sounds a lot like a new Harry Potter book heh.

Step by Step instructions for profiting from the Mysterious Essence Shuffle

Step 1.

The Shuffle is based on the enchanting profession abilities, “Ethereal Shard”, “Mysterious Essence”, and “Mysterious Diffusion”.  You need an enchanting skill of 500 and it costs 2g 28s to train.

The addons you can see in this screenshot, which change the professions window, are: Trade Skill Master, Auctionator, Ackis Recipe List and Lil Sparky’s Workshop.

Step 2.

An Ethereal Shard can be made from 5 Mysterious Essence with the ability “Ethereal Shard“. Requires Enchanting (550)

A Mysterious Essence can be made from 5 Spirit Dust with the ability “Mysterious Essence“. Requires Enchanting (500)

Additionally, 1 Ethereal Shard can be downgraded to 3 Mysterious Essence with the ability “Ethereal Shatter“. Requires Enchanting (585) (As you can see, I don’t have this spell yet)

And, 1 Mysterious Essence can be downgrated to 3 Spirit Dust with the ability “Mysterious Diffusion“. Requires Enchanting (535)

Step 3. 

Look at the prices for Spirit Dust, Mysterious Essence, and Ethereal Shard.

If 5 Spirit Dust purchase cost is less than one Mysterious Essence selling price, you can profit.

Go to the Auction House, Open your Auctionator AH BUY tab, and open your enchanting.  Click this button here.

Step 4. 

Your AH window should begin to search then look a bit like this.

Here we can see that the price for 5 Spirit Dust is less than one Mysterious Essence

Step 6.

Buy Spirit Dust

Step 6b. 

You can also get Spirit Dust by disenchanting all those cheap Mists of Pandaria crafted greens and green drops that are filling your AH this week.

Step 7. 

Turn the Spirit Dust into Mysterious Essence

Step 8. 

Sell your Mysterious Essence

Step 9. 

You can save the Mysterious Essence search as a shopping list in Auctionator.  As you can see, I already have a ton of shopping lists, so I’m skipping this step.

Step 10. 

Don’t forget to check to see if you can do the Mysterious Essence to Ethereal Shard Shuffle.  Here, you can do a Shard to Essence shuffle.

Buy the Shard and break it down with Ethereal Shatter for a 20g profit.  (3 x 23.99) – 51.99
Unfortunately the AH does take a cut of your profits.

Step 11. 

Send all your profits over to your main or you’ll spend it.

 

In Mists of Pandaria, Enchanters can change Sha Crystals, Ethereal Shards, Mysterious Essence and Spirit Dust into each other.  The shuffle will mature during the expansion to enable you to make profits at each level.

How much should I pay for them?

What will you sell decks for?

A few days into the expansion, and players are anxious about Darkmoon Card prices.

The crafting materials include either Spirit of Harmony (farmable) or scroll of wisdom, which can be made once per day. As the scroll of wisdom are also used for epic BoA staves, this puts players into a quandary about whether to use the scrolls now for cards, or save them to make an epic staff or offhand.

My gut feeling is to make a few cards, and some gold to keep you going.  Then as the market matures, make the staff/offhands.  As raiding starts, and players begin to demand raid-ready items, the demand for the staff/offhand items will increase.

Once players have one char at 90, these Bind on Account items can be passed to the next alt to be leveled up.

When is Darkmoon Faire?

Darkmoon Faire starts 12:00AM server time, October 7 and finishes 11:59pm, 13 October 2012.

Make your cards now before October 7th.  From October 12th, start buying the cheap deals on the cards from players who have made a card which is over represented in the AH. In other words, if there are a bazillion 6 of Cranes, then the prices will crash, so you can buy the cheapest and hoard it for the November Darkmoon Faire.

From 13 Oct, make staves and offhands.

As November Darkmoon Faire approaches, make cards, and prepare your cards which you gathered cheaply at October Darkmoon Faire.

November Darkmoon Faire is Sunday, 04-Nov-2012 to Saturday, 10-Nov-2012.

How much should I sell and buy the Darkmoon Cards for?

• Log on to www.tuj.me
• Choose either US or EU.
• Choose your realm.
• On the black background menu at the top, choose Enhancements.
• Choose Darkmoon
• Scroll down to Mists of Pandaria Darkmoon Deck Prices and single Darkmoon Card Prices (Cranes, Oxen, Serpents, Tigers).
• Check the Confidence Interval (95% CI)
• The dot is to the left when the current market price is under the average, and to the right when the current market price is over the average.
