The Role of Quaker Women in Colonial America

2016-02-28T15:48:00.001-05:00

From the beginning the Quakers treated women more equally and gave them more power and the ability to hold leadership positions within their faith than any of the other early Christian religions. They were allowed to speak in meeting, publish, and encouraged to get an education. While Quaker women enjoyed greater equality within the church and community, their influence did not extend to financial matters, and men kept the upper hand by taking care of property, finances, and business.

Learn more about the role of early Quaker women from speaker Sarah DiSantis, director of the Morgan Log House, at our spring Lunch & Learn Lecture at Graeme park.

A continental breakfast will be served before the talk and a hot and cold lunch buffet will follow. Tours of the historic Keith House will also be available. The cost is $20/person and preregistration is requested.

Lunch will include:

l Hot entrée

l Deli tray with rolls and sandwich “fixins”

l Vegetarian option

l Salad, dessert, beverages

A Wedding at Graeme Park: Ashley & Thurman

2015-12-04T13:35:00.000-05:00

Ashley and Thurman's October wedding took place behind the Keith House at Graeme Park at an alter they decorated with pumpkins, mums, fall garland and lace.

After the ceremony, the wedding party gathered for photos while the guests headed to the wedding tent for cocktails and appetizers catered by The Red Cedar Grille in Colmar.

Back in the tent, they opted to for an upscale rustic look with wooden farm tables, bamboo chairs and casual arrangements of cheery sunflowers arranged by Willow and Thistle.

Even the cake combined a rustic wood bottom with a more elegant top accented with sunflowers.

Congratulations Ashley and Thurman and thank you for celebrating at Graeme Park!

A Wedding at Graeme Park: Katie & Steve

2015-11-20T13:45:00.001-05:00

The weather Gods finally turned things around for Katie and Steve's wedding at Graeme Park and they had a gorgeous day of bright blue skies and sunshine for their vows in front of the Keith House.

The cocktail hour was held in the field between the 18th century house and the 19th century Pennsylvania bank barn. Joey G's always puts on a huge spread of hot and cold hors d'oeuvres and guests had their choice of high and low top tables and lounge furniture to enjoy their sips and nibbles. There were also some lawn games for the more athletic types to enjoy.

Inside the tent, tables were set with vintage linens and colorful flowers in an assortment of milk glass vases.

The menu consisted of tomato, mozzarella and roasted peppers over field greens, filet mignon, pan seared crab cakes, whipped potatoes, grilled asparagus, and vegetarian options, plus a dessert bar.

The lovely cake was done by Velvet Sky Bakery and included vintage toppers (family heirlooms?) in the display.

The periphery of the tent included displays of vintage wedding photographs and "s'more love" for guests to take home.

Congratulations Katie and Steve and thank you for celebrating at Graeme Park.

A Wedding at Graeme Park: Nicole & Mike

2015-11-20T13:16:00.000-05:00

Nicole and Mike had the second of our rainy October weekend weddings, and again, I must apologize for the crappy cell-phone pictures. They were able to get in their outdoor ceremony behind the historic Keith House at Graeme Park before retiring to the tent for cocktail hour, dinner and dancing.

They chose to set the tent up with long, family-style tables, white, neutral and navy blue linens, and colorful fall flowers arranged in mason jars.

The caterer was Diverse Catering and their meal consisted of roasted new potatoes, rigatoni with spinach in cream sauce, roasted vegetables, a beef dish and salmon.

Their family tradition also included a cookie table with everyone contributing their specialty.

"Help yourself to a cookie ... or twelve" - these are my kind of people!

Congratulations Nicole and Mike and thank you for celebrating at Graeme Park.
