Corn Maze Craze!

There is no better place to get lost in Stowe than in Percy Farm’s corn maze. Put it on top of your things-to-do in Stowe this fall. Located on the Stowe Recreation Path, the peaceful setting may make you want to stay for hours, but the maze usually takes about one hour to complete. Don’t worry, you can’t get too lost, there is a logbook and the staff there will be sure to keep track of you. At the entrance to the maze there are two baby calves to pet, a big hit with children. So bring your kids, and even your dog (on a leash) and discover a maze Stowe-style.

The 55^th Annual Stowe Antique and Classic Car Show is getting ready to kick off on the second weekend of August! There are over 800 classic and antique cars on display with a judging contest, which will be held on the Nichol’s Field off Route 100 in Stowe’s lower village. Join us Saturday evening in front of the Green Mountain Inn for the antique car parade and the village street dance on Main Street in downtown Stowe. A Vermont Crafters Tent will be set up along the streets filled with classic and antique cars. For fifty plus years Stowe has hosted this magnificent event bringing in new and returning car enthusiasts every year! As one of the largest car shows on the East coast, the Antique and Classic Car Show provides entertainment, food, and laughs for the entire weekend.

Stowe is a mecca for outdoor activity! From climbing Vermont’s tallest peak, Mount Mansfield, to hiking “The Pinnacle” and reaching its amazing view, to walking the 5.3 mile long Stowe Recreation Path winding throughout the town, crossing over rivers, and passing many of Stowe’s landmarks, you will never be bored outdoors. You can always spend your day winding down the dirt path that traverses meadows throughout the town, known to the locals as “The Quiet Path,” or head towards Cotton Brook, a swimming hole in the southern part of town. Here you’ll find the Little River (Moscow River) and plenty of walking and hiking trails scattered through the woods, all leading to the Waterbury Reservoir, home to kayaks, canoes, and picnics.

Stowe is home to both beginner and advanced hikes, ranging from .5 miles to 9 miles long. For an easy nature hike be sure to check out Moss Glen Falls, which leads to a stunning waterfall at the end. Sunset Rock is another short and easy hike with great views overlooking Main St. in downtown Stowe. More advanced hikers will enjoy the landscape views from the peak of Stowe Pinnacle and Mount Mansfield. And for those looking for a challenge, the “Hellbrook Trail” is one of the toughest in the area and is a definite if you want to encounter one of the most spectacular views in New England once you reach the summit! Thanksgiving at the Green Mountain Inn

Only 2 days away and our staff is hard at work preparing for one of our favorite holidays – Thanksgiving – when we’ll be offering a special prix-fix menu.

The Main Street Dining room is offering a refined and artisanal Thanksgiving Menu for $42 per person & $21 per child from 1:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The Whip Bar & Grill will be offering lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. and dinner from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Guests can choose from an array of homemade breads, appetizers, entrées and desserts. Including classics such as roasted butternut squash, Misty Knoll turkey with apple sausage stuffing and Old-fashioned Pumpkin Pie.

Spending Thanksgiving at home? Our baker shares her Old-fashioned Pumpkin Pie recipe so you so you can recreate the favored dessert from the Green Mountain Inn for your family and friends:

Recipe Makes 2 Pumpkin Pies-
4 eggs
29 oz can Pumpkin
1 ¼ cups white sugar
⅓ cup brown sugar
1 ⅛ teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon ginger
1 ⅛ teaspoons cloves
1 ⅓ cup milk
1 ⅛ cup evaporated milk

Beat eggs.
Mix in sugars and spices.
Slowly mix in milks.
Pour into unbaked pie crusts.
Bake 15 minutes at 425° then reduce temperature to 350°.
Bake approximately 50 minutes @ 350°.

Scott and Patricia celebrated their wedding on Valentine's Day after a long-distance relationship spanning half the east coast. Scott, a native Vermonter and his Valentine Patricia from Atlanta, Georgia have been traveling back and forth. Patricia fell in love with the idea of a winter destination wedding and Stowe became the perfect spot. The Green Mountain Inn located in the heart of Stowe made for the perfect setting for the destination wedding. The Country Inn Ceremony was photographed by Kathleen Landwehrle.

World-class music with an original and exciting twist comes to Stowe August 18 – 21 via the Music Festival of the Americas. Critically acclaimed conductor and festival music director Alondra de la Parra brings her much-celebrated Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas (POA) to the festival for four evenings of classical and world music performed with an innovative flair. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. at the Topnotch Resort in Stowe.

The Green Mountain Inn, the proud platinum sponsor of the event, is featuring a special two-night festival package. The Inn invites guests to discover for themselves Ms. De la Parra’s charismatic interpretation of music from the American content covering “Buenos Aires to Boston” which has brought audiences everywhere to their feet.

Celebrating the rich tradition of Latin American classical music, Ms. de la Parra has been credited with breathing new life into concert going by infusing a freshness and exuberance to this music, which is anything but uptight. Finding information about the Green Mountain Inn in Stowe, Vermont just got easier thanks to the launching of the Inn’s newly updated and revitalized website.

Green Mountain Inn to Sponsor Stowe 5K Power Run, walk-a-thon May 22

Nearly 250 walkers are expected to participate in the Vermont American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA) 5K Power Run and Walk-a-Thon to be held in Stowe on Saturday, May 22. As a major sponsor of the event, the Green Mountain Inn will be the host site for the day’s registration as well as thank-you reception.

“This is a great event for an extremely worthy cause and we’re very happy to be involved and serve as the base of operations for a number of the day’s activities,” says Innkeeper Patti Clark. “Both the Walk-a-thon and the Power Run will begin at the start of the Stowe Bike Path which is behind the Stowe Congregational Church just up the street from the Inn. So our nearby location will provide participants with a convenient registration site to help make the event run as smoothly as possible. And we’re delighted to host the wrap-up celebration and awards ceremony here. It should be a really great day for walkers as well as spectators who have come to cheer on family and friends and support such an important organization.”

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the central nervous system affecting more than 1.5 million people in the United States. Caused by the death of certain cells in the brain that help control movement, Parkinson’s is the second most common progressive degenerative neurological disorder.

Says Jean Baker, of the Vermont APDA Information and Referral Center, “This fundraiser is being held to help build awareness about Parkinson’s.” The Chapter’s goal, Baker says, is to raise $25,000 through this event.

The national American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc., which was founded in 1961, has sought to "Ease the Burden and Find the Cure" for this disease through research, patient and family support and education.

The Vermont APDA has, since 1998, been committed to offering practical advice to the Parkinson's community on a wide variety of issues as well as providing educational opportunities and resources about this chronic illness. Says Baker, “We’re dedicated to empowering Vermonters with Parkinson’s, as well as their care partners, so that they may live well with Parkinson’s disease.

Registration for the Stowe event begins at 8 a.m. in the Inn’s Village Room. The 5K power run starts at 9:30 with the walk-a-thon to follow at 10:30 and reception at noon. The WilloughVale Inn’s new and improved waterfront has something for every vacationer this summer. After months of hard work, the Inn is ready to welcome visitors with new enhancements that make it the ultimate spot to relax on or near the water. The waterfront grounds and facilities have never looked more inviting now that renovations are complete. A new game room, expanded dock and patio have been added as well as a new lighter fare menu, so you’ll be sure to find an array of choices to tempt your palate. Kids of all ages who need a game fix will love the new game room downstairs in the Main Inn building with air hockey, pool, video games, Nintendo Wii and more.

“Our waterfront is such a gorgeous spot that it’s always been the natural focal point for the WilloughVale Inn and our visitors,” said innkeeper Roy Clark. “But we wanted to give our guests an enhanced lakeside experience that offers even more ways to unwind and enjoy the water.”

The waterfront has been transformed into a lakeside resort experience in true Vermont tradition.
