This month I have noticed a bigger amount of people visiting the blog from other countries then Canada and the United states, my blog is seeing lot's of traffic from around the world, this is very cool, now that the winter is over I need to find more topics for you guys.... I like hiking, kayaking and atving so I will be sharing my adventures with you guys, the main thing my Gf and I are planning to do a lot this summer is hiking in the beautiful provincial parks that we have in Ontario.

Ice Update, early this week there was still lot's of ice on the lakes in the area, as many of you know this up coming weekend in Canada is a Long weekend and it's the opening season for walleye fishing. This is a very popular weekend for fishermen, this year with the longer winter weather the lakes still had some ice but we where lucky yesterday to get big winds and it has broken up the ice on the lakes and looks like the ice has broken up and the lakes are clear now, this is good news. I will post pictures of the lakes around town for you guys tomorrow so you can see the lakes,

The may long weekend is almost here, only a few more days to go, hmmmm still lot's of ice on the lakes, I will have to go for a truck ride and take some pictures for you guys as I know some of you have camps, cottages in the are and want to know if there is still snow and ice. Some of you are asking about the road conditions on the bush roads. I'm hoping to get the chance to go out and check out the roads.... but I have so much to do (Spring Cleaning and Honey do list lol, That's why I like winter, no grass to cut, painting, fixing, flower beds, sweeping, the need to shovel and plow the driveway.

Winter is not over.

Well looks like mother nature is not done with us, she tease us with some warm weather then she makes us freeze the next day, one day 28c then the following day down to -3c thats quite the change in temperature. We can't complain here, some other places south and west got a good dumping of snow.

The Chapleau area got over a foot of heavy snow, so much that some took out the snowmobiles for a last spin. For once we did not get the snow here in Dubreuilville, the temperature was cold but no snow, well a few flakes in the air but we where skipped and I'm happy. This weekend it's opening weekend for fishing Walleye up here and so far it don't look good, there is lot's of ice left on the lakes, we need some warm temperatures and some good wind this week so the ice can break up and open up the lakes so we can go fishing.

I''m afraid we might be doing some ice fishing for opening weekend this year.... I sure hope not

I know why I love winter.

Yup, I know why I love winter..... Other then plowing the driveway there is no yard work to be done, every thing is frozen. Lol I have so much stuff to do in so little time.

I had to go rescue my Ice hut for a second time on Tuesday, I had got it unstuck the week before and I had towed it on the beach at the lake, well we got warm weather and the water rose about 4 feet in a week and it reached my Hut on the shoreline, the first pictures where sent to me when I was in Sudbury last weekend, 2 person went to the lake and sent me pictures of my hut in the lake, I told them I was not home and could only go Tuesday afternoon to pull it out.

Tuesday after noon I headed out with a friend to the lake and when I got to the lake I got a big surprise, my hut had started floating and it was now on it's side, what was suppose to be an easy task of just hooking up and dragging out was now a recovery/salvage task. I put on the chest waders and walked in the lake, the waster was freezing and there was ice chunks floating around me. I managed to push the hut away from the beach and turned it sideway to the truck, it took me a while to figure out what to do, planning my recovery, after a while I had to come out and warm up as the cold icy water was getting to me. After looking at many options we decided to just hook it to the Ski that was sticking out of the water and hope the one under the water at the bottom would hook up on one the rocks under it and flip the shack up.

As you will see by the pictures my plan worked and the hut is now on dry land and safe, I don't think the water will reach it there now..... if it dose rise up to the hut well mother nature can have because I give up lol

Back home from 4 days around Sudbury, I will be posting on the blog today, I visited a BRP/Ski-Doo dealer and then stopped at the Shop Industrial to check out some groomers. It was a long return home as I had to take the long way around as there was some flooding on Hwy 101 from Chapleau to Wawa.

It's May.....Will I get my last Snowmobile ride today?

It has been warm the last 4 days, the snow has melted quickly, so fast that we started seeing grass, did not think I would be seeing this right away. Well it's normal when you go from - 3 to -4C temperatures to 15 to 18C the next few days with a light breeze.

Today is the big day that I have be talking to you guys about, my first ever snowmobile ride in Ontario in May. Hopping to be able to pull it off, haven't been in the bush since Saturday, I'm sure the trails are still ok to ride with (extreme caution), the trails are closed for the season but these are on crown land and I have to go pick up some signs. The snow will be thin in the open areas but the spots that run in the forest should be good.

I took this picture yesterday evening in my back yard, we finally found my Groomer guy Snow Gauge, I had lost it one night during a big snow storm at the start of the winter and I was sure the wind had taken it away and it was lost for ever, with our luck it had only fallen a few feet from where it was nailed. Will have to fin a better spot for next season.

Breaking News!!! No Northern Loop next season.

Last Sunday district 14 had a big district meeting, they talked about the past winter and about the trails, one big topic was about the C101F that goes from Timmins to Chapleau , the C101F is a big part of the OFSC trail system in the Northern Ontario as its on the Big Northern loop that takes you around from Timmins, Cochrane, Kapuskasing, Hearst Hornepayne, Dubreuilville then Chapleau, its a popular loop and it seeing more and more traffic every season as more people hear about how good it is and when the winters are not too good down south many travel up to ride the big loop.

This Closure of this trail will affect my club and many other in the north, this will affect D-13 and D-15 as we also get the traffic going around, 75% or more of the riders we had this winter where people doing the Big loop.

I was told the reason why the |District decided to close that trail was because the Foleyet club no longer exists and they had one guy running a groomer all winter but no trail passes were sold.... I can understand why they are doing it, its a big section of trail to maintain, with no Foleyet club in the center to take care of the trail it give a lot more work for both club of both sides. I hope there can be a good solution to this, I'm sure the OFSC will work hard on this over the season to we can have this trail back for next season that is 8 months away. We need to let the OFSC and D-14 about how this will affect our trails riding next winter, please comment on my blog and facebook page they do read my stuff, we need to get the word out about this, we need to show that people do care about this loop and that we need it.

It's going to be a busy summer trying to find a solution for this, I will keep you posted about this over the next few weeks and over the summer.

Good morning, or good afternoon depending where you are from, I say that as I have many readers from around the world reading my blog, it's fun to check out the stats and see where most of you are from. The top 5 spots for where the readers are from are #4 Russia #3 Germany # 2 Canada and # 1 is the United States. for a while Russia was in front of Germany but Germany in the last few months have taken the #3 spot and has ran away with it.

Headed to work today with a 3C temperature, only had a light jacket on, so nice to wake up and not having to shovel the steps or clean of the truck window of snow or having to scrape off the ice on the windshield. The weather has been very nice since Saturday, the snow has melted so fast in the open areas where it was hit by direct sun light.

Hey guys, well the ice hut is off the lake, it was back breaking hard work... with many blisters in my hands... Note to self... bring gloves next time. Spent half of the day chopping the ice with an axe and an ice chisel, my wrist and hands hurt from the pounding. the temperature got up to +18C and there was a good wind breeze, the ice and snow was melting fast, we had wet feet as the top layers of the ice was melting and in some spots we would sink in the slush and water up to the knee in frigid water.

After hours of chopping ice I was able to slip my small floor jack under one of the hut's ski and give it a few cranks, I started pumping slowly and finally it let go from the ice and it was free, I lifted up the hut higher and put wooden block under then we passed a big wide strap and drove my truck close and hooked it up. it still took me a few go at it as it was still hooking up on the ice but it finally broke free and it followed the truck to the beach where it sits right now, I need to set up my trailer and winch and go get her this week, that's the easy part, I'm just glad it's on the beach safe.

Now to put the ice fishing gear away and get ready for Atving season... well not before my last snowmobile ride in May that will be done this week, stay tuned for pictures and video. Warning, the snowmobile trails are now closed in Dubreuilville due to the fast melting ice on some of the lakes where water flows in, there is still plenty of snow on the trails but the area where rivers come in its not safe anymore. it was a good winter and I will post a season closing blog update in the next few weeks.

Its a nice sunny day today, it feels great to have the sun out and warming us up, this morning at 5:30am the temperature was still -4c but it quickly warmed up as soon as the sun showed up. it's been a long winter, it has been snowing since mid October. Most of the 5 inches of snow we got yesterday has melted away. the old snow is taking a long time to melt as its rock hard. Plenty of snow left out there, hope I can find the time to out and ride the trails around town this weekend.

It's time for this snow to melt and we start ATVing, do some mudding and exploring.

Mother nature is not done with us, there was no snow in the forecast for today, it started snowing and so far we have had 5 inches in 3 hours. Looks like its about to stop now, that's a good thing as the way it was coming down it looked like it was going to be a big one. I wonder how much more will fall in the next few weeks. A customer told me that he went out yesterday with an ATV with tracks and he sunk in when he pulled off a packed trail, he got of the ATV and he said he had snow up to his waist, he's a tall guy over 6 feet tall. He said the was still tons of snow out there and it felt like it was February snow conditions..

My customers are starting to thing I'm crazy as I'm about the only one that is happy and excited about this snow. We sure are getting our moneys worth out of our OFSC trail permit this year. with this snow it don't look like I'm getting my ice hut out anytime soon.

Took a ride out to the Ice hut again yesterday, drove the truck on the ice road on the lake, still a lot of snow on the road, it's not getting plowed anymore so its a bit hard to navigate, the snow is deep in some spots. My ice hut is stuck in the ice, at the start of the season I had jacked it up on some big block, every week I would drive there and kept an eye on it, one day I came to the hut and the water had came up and froze my shack in... agrrrr the sun don't shine as much there so I'm having a hard time, I'm not to worried about, she will come out, will go back and chip more ice around it.

On my way back I shot some video and took some pictures and the big snow banks on the side of the road, its April 25th and there is tons of snow in the bush, you could go out and do some powder riding, plenty of snow to get stuck. My May first snowmobile ride is going to be great!!! I'm not worried that there wont be snow, looks like opening season for fishing will be on ice this year.

Its a nice day in Dubreuilville, the temperature is at 3C and the snow is slowly melting away, looks like the normal temperatures for this time of year are finally coming, it's been a long winter and it's time for this snow to go. Next week I will do my first ever snowmobile ride in May, I will take pictures and videos of my ride and share with you guys.

With temperatures in the Plus I can now to get my ice hut that is stuck in the ice , will try to go get it later today, hope it goes well. Like always I will take pictures and videos for you.

Ontario flood waters will keep snowmobile clubs busy this summer.

This winter was a great season for snowmobiling, Ontario had plenty of riding, we seen lot's of snowfall and it keeps on coming down in many parts of northern Ontario, heck the trails are still open in some of theses areas and we are April 23rd. With all this snow we are paying the price, as the snow melts rivers swell up and jump their banks and cause destruction flooding homes and washing out roads, our snow mobile trail system is taking a beating as culverts and roads are washing away, bridges are being washed away and some are holding up to the forces of water but they will need to be inspected and repaired as the approaches of bridged are damaged and many cribbing's will be destroyed..

These snowmobile clubs will need some help, we can all help, I live far so I help by informing people, if you live close maybe you can give a weekend of your time and help, You might have heavy equipment and are willing to go out and help, maybe you are a carpenter or a welder or a lumber jack... they still do exist lol Contact the OFSC and Clubs, once the floods are over and that we know more of the damages I will post information on here and facebook with the contacts.

You can contact the OFSC (Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs) at http://www.ofsc.on.ca/ you will get all the info you need on the website.

If your club has flooded trails and damages please email me pictures to luclevesque@hotmail.com with details of location and trail #. we need to let people know, help is out there. you can also send them to me on my facebook page.

Hope the water goes down soon and the damages are not to major.... so far it don't look good... good luck guys.

It's passed mid April... the snow still won't go.

It was a great weekend, we got more snow and it was then nice and sunny, the night time lows where around -14C, its a long winter but we love winter, my 2 girls love playing outside in the snow. Last night we spent the evening outside playing in our little hill in the back yard. Good times living in the north we get longer daylight, we get to enjoy the nice sunny days. The Snowmobile trails are still open and are posted as limited as I did not get the chance to check them out but I did ask the people that are riding and they are telling they are great and that there is still a ton of snow out there. Looks like my May snowmobile ride is going to be a reality.

This morning we woke up to some more snow, got to love it or else we would go nuts lol Soon it will be all gone.

Hey Guys, it's snowing right now, we got rain early last night but it then changed to snow, I got out this morning to a snow covered iced up windshield. I had to shovel the step at the store and it was a heavy packed snow, the salty type of snow. the snow is still coming down as I'm typing this, looks like it will snow all day, the temperature is at -2C. I will post more updates later on today.

It was a nice sunny day yesterday, we decided to head out to Roger's lake and go check out the fish hut, I taught maybe the slush had melted and that I could pull it off to the beach but it's still stuck in the ice, I had up on blocks and had been keeping an eye on it but the slush came up high and now it's stuck, I'm not worried, there is plenty of ice and once it gets very warm I will pull it out. It was suppose to snow last night but I woke up to bare streets and no new snow, I taught the storm would miss us but as I'm typing this the snow is coming down and starting to pile up slowly and the cars and dirt areas, it has yet to start sticking to the paved streets. It been a long winter, it started snowing in October, my girls had their first snowmobile ride around Halloween and they have been riding it ever since. Good morning my Snowmobile friends, woke up to clear skies and -8 c. It's a nice cool morning before the storm. My friends Eric and Lynne stopped in to say Hi before leaving back fro home (Detroit Area) They have been here since last Thursday riding the trails and fishing, they told me that the trails are fantastic and they are great, they say there is still 4 feet of snow in the bush and that's compacted snow, with the snow coming in the next few days looks like a snowmobile ride in May is not out of the question for me, it would be a first for me. I will take plenty of pictures and videos for you guys. Eric told me he has lot's of pictures and videos shot with his Gopro camera and he will edit some of it and post it for us to see.

I just checked the forecast again, they changed it.... 5 to 6 Cm for tonight 10 to 15Cm for Thursday and Friday 20-30Cm If we get the max amount of snow for everyday and it could happened as sometimes we get more then forecasted as we are next to lake Superior and we get a lot of lake effect snow. The Amount would be 51Cm that's over 20inches of snow.

This is all exciting but I'm looking forward to summer and atving.

Look at what we got coming just for Friday, more snow the day before but Friday is the big one.

Woke up to more snow this morning, 5cm (2 inches) this is a long winter, haven't seen one like this in a long time, looking at the long term forecast it showing a lot of snow. Next friday they are calling for 20-30cm of snow. With this looks like i'm going to have a few rides in may, a first for me. over the weekend we had some snow Saturday morning we woke up to 15 to 20 Cm again, had to plow the driveway again, my ATV is seeing some action this year, it pushed lot's of snow this year, it's a good thing I pushed my snow far in the back as soon we will run out of room to store this snow, it better melt soon.

The Snowmobile trails are still open and there is plenty of snow on them, last I checked there was still 4 feet along side of the trail but now there must be more with all this new snow, must be close to 5 feet if not more in some areas.

April 10th Snowmobile ride.

Last night I decided to treat myself to a snowmobile ride, the weather was nice and sunny, a few little clouds but perfect for taking pictures and videos. I headed out on the D trail east to Wawa then after I came back and headed on the D108A to Hornepayne. As you will see in the video at 2 spots I stopped and checked how much snow there was off the trail, to my surprise I sunk in to my waist in the deep snow. it's amazing on how much snow there is out there.

I took some video and pictures, right now I'm posting video and pictures from my iphone but I have more on my Nikon camera that I will post later today.

So the ATV (Quad) ride weekend planning will start, if you guys have some ideas to share please email me of leave a comment on here, what dates would be best? what type of rides are you guys interested in? Mud running or just clean trails? Do you guys want to do some camping or go in Hotels, Motels? How many days you think it should be, 2-3-4 days or more? When I posted about doing an Summer ATV ride I got a lot of people interested so I think we should go and plan one for this summer.

Please let me know if you are interested so I can add you on the list.

Here we go more snow, it's April!!!!!!

The Snow keep on coming down, it coming down again as I'm typing this right now, I measured with a ruler about 14 to 16CM of snow Saturday night, the snow was very heavy and was compacted so I figure we got over 20+ CM, On the weather Network they said Wawa had 21CM and Chapleau had 23CM so my Predictions are close. We haven't seen this much snow in the last few years here, it was a cold winter with temperatures often in the -30's and 40C, when it was not cold we would get dumped on with snow, or we get rain, we had rain twice this winter, Imagine if had not had the rain how much snow we would of had.

In my video you see my daughter Emilyn going outside clearing the snow of the Sat Dish, they wanted to watch cartoons but the TV was not working so she went out and cleaned it off, it was funny and cute, you can hear us laughing in the video. Got to love the snow, it's Canada, we Live in the north, it's a great place to raise your children, a great place if you love ice fishing and snowmobiling, we can't complain as this year we got ours money worth with our OFSC trail permit, the trails are still open and we are still riding. I love snow but I can't wait to switch to ATVing and to go out exploring the many old mine sites that are out there, the Northern Life, so simple and so much fun. Hope you guys will join me out here if I do my ATV ride weekend, it's going to be a blast.

It's bad that clubs in Northern Ontario have plenty of snow to have great riding but have to cut back on grooming due to lack of money..... to the point to having to close trails, we are trying to bring in people to ride the areas, we have a special product as March and April riding is rare, we can market this...... this is our chance to show people our trails. many people are looking to ride... but they don't know about the trails in the north, also we owe to the local permit buyers to keep on grooming until its over.... why should we stop because the rest of Ontario or the states have no more snow and trails open.. yes I know that money is tight..... but how do we get back to where we where in the 90's if we cut back of the Quality of the Product and then offer less, no loop trails just trails in and out.... Point A to Point B, people Spending less in Northern towns..... less now with Snowmobiles that are great on Gas as they can skip gas stations now......... Sorry for the Rant...... April Snowmobile trail grooming, so sweet!!!!!

Headed out on the trails yesterday to groom the D trail West, the trail was fantastic, One would think it was Jan or Feb with that kind of trail conditions right now, so much snow out there, a few times I dropped a track off the side of the trail and I would sink deep in the snow, so much I had to put on the differential lock so that I could come out to avoid digging in the soft snow. I wish more people could experience April snowmobiling, it's so much fun.

The forecast for this week only shows a slight warm-up but there is snow on the way, wonder how long this will go? This is really a Normal winter for this area, the last few years where not, other then a low snow month in January and some rain its been a great winter.

Pack up the sleds and come on up to northern Ontario, there is still time to ride before it's all over till next December, you will wish you had.   Check out http://www.gorideontario.ca/ for information about snowmobiling in Ontario.

My Uncle is going to do some digging if he wants to take out his truck soon at his cottage, the trail

passes in his yard.

The ends at the Magpie Reservoir, you can ride onto Wawa from here up to the Steep Hill hydro dam.
