For those lucky enough to show, beautiful weather graced Sebastian for two full days of full on fun jumping at a pace anyone could enjoy.  We all made a total of 10 jumps for the weekend with enough time to show up late and finish early!

Weather hampered later day jumping, but Mark Norman took the reigns and created an excellent BBQ for jumpers who stuck it out to the end.  The first call to action is develop a membership marketing drive.  The group is composed of two communication efforts, The jump IN! Fan Page for video and photo content and and Local’s Email group for direct communication with members.  Once a good percentage of the local newbies and willing experienced jumpers join, communication and the like interest of skydiving with each other tends to exponentially grow the club from the inside out.

Right now Skydive Sebastian has an incredible new group of jumpers and a new influx of experience jumpers to tap into as well as a fresh energy provided by the manager, Andrea Roca.  Friday is the official meet up day, but as always, members can make any day a Jump IN! day.

In the Next Few weeks the goal is to get enough energy going for the arrival of the North East Club Jump IN! Skydive New England’s arrival.  North East Leaders, Brian Touhey, Chris Mabbot and Brandon Aaskov will be bringing close to 20 SNE jumpers to both Skydive Sebastian and ZHills in March 6-11.

Benefits to the Drop Zone and jumpers alike are increase in communication and camaraderie producing more jumping in a safer environment as now jumper and DZ management have one truly local email list to engage with and nurture.  Everything from typical newbie questions to safety issues, ie: canopy, are discussed and practiced.

Jump IN!’s Mission:

Inspire and nurture the skydiving culture and community one jump, one skydiver and one drop zone at a time.

Vision:

Take the students and give them experience, take the experience and make them leaders and take the leaders and grow the drop zone.

Slogan: “Don’t Just Stand There, JUMP IN!”

How:

The plan is to unify student jumpers and fun jumpers through education, camaraderie and leadership for the benefit of the individuals, the group and the business.

By Bridging the gap from Student Status to fun jumper through education and leadership training in a space that is safe and conducive to development, breeding the staff and leaders of tomorrow.

Examples include:
Social Hubs for communication, ie, Jump IN! Fan Page, email lists, events and courses concentrating on jumpers needs and wants.

Goals:

• Encourage the participation of all jumpers to share information and consciously create their skydiving vision.
• Make the DZ safer by educating new jumpers earlier in their career and accelerating their learning process by quicker introduction into the community and culture of skydiving.
• Create skydiving career direction for jumpers early on through quality organizing, video debrief and the open sharing of information and skills through all communication hubs.
• Creating a unified tribe of fun jumpers through events produced solely by Jump IN! and it’s members including travel to other drop zones and locals.

I wasn’t jumping this year due to knee surgery on the Friday before the boogie, so …. I really got the chance to immerse myself in other areas of SNE that I would otherwise not really get to know.  The ability to move around, fill in slots as needed and see the whole event from the ground was quite new, but I must say extremely fun.

The peak of New England summer season brings together a well oil drop zone machine, their friends a super otter a skyvan and one HUGE Burning The House Down Party to create one of the best summer boogies in the United States.  Just as the beginning of fall starts, the summer cools down, New England Lights up the skies and the nights with Tiki BAR!  This cozy, intimate skydiving boogie has never lost its roots in skydiving.  Owner Mike Carpenter and Fred Cotreau, make sure the fundamentals, of no rules, jumping, partying and quality entertainment stay the focus of the drop zone and it’s boogies.  The accumulating effect is one good vibe drop zone from the inside out.  A grass roots skydiving center with fun and jumping at its core.  Tiki Bar highlights and shares that with the world one weekend a year.

The boogie takes participants on a fun filled weekend of jumping starting on a Friday through Monday.  Friday Night was a FREE dinner for all who showed up with a wrist band.  Saturday had Fresh Maine Lobster for Dinner and Saturday was the classic Pig Roast.  Every night had a live band and some crazy party action.  The event climaxes with a fire filled night on Sunday with the burning of The DZ’s Tiki Hut, Fireworks, live DJ and Band till the wee hours of the night.

The Skyvan and Super Otters flew almost a solid back to back load rate throughout the boogie and a little weather provided opportunity for most to lick their wounds from the night before.

Owners Fred & Carp over hauled the place with new upgrades including new showers, bathrooms and new campground electric with meters.  As a staff member I couldn’t ask for more.  There are always needs and wants and something to fix or improve and this place is on top of it.

Club Jump IN! I started last year has really taken off and with Eli Bolotin at the helm of AFF our student program and jumper retention is going to go through the roof.  Club Jump IN! has really held its membership and activity even through the winter.  Totally dedicated jumpers.  The communication is definitely helping our safety here as well.

Our video team is upgrading to full digital and Swoopware, which has been a mission as each individual cameraman is working his own station.  I broke up with PC years ago and still lament on the wasted time in that relationship making it harder to plunk down the big stack of cash needed for the PC, burner, HDD and software.  Hours and hours of computer pain.  But, it should be worth it.  Our videos will go head to head with any DZ in the country and the flexibility of production for whatever purpose is seemingly infinite.  I hope to be posting some Tips, Tricks and Fix videos on the Swoopware, Vegas and DVD architect soon.

And for the Pictures.  I am just getting settled and up and running.  This is the first fun jump I’ve even been on here yet this season.  Sam, one of our new Interns, made his 100 jump during a 13way tracking dive.  It was sunset and short on notice I used my GOPRO for stills.  I knew what I was going to end up with, but still love playing with the colors and just whacking out the photos.

It was a good jump and a great way to end the day.  Using Swoopware and my newly created Tandem Template I was able to hit the ground and burn a DVD of the jump in just a few clicks and a pack job worth of minutes.  Now that’s cool!

The main site for Bahama’s Tourism included my photos helping the webpage opening up a new tab for the island of Rum Cay and Sumner Point Marina.

My photos are side by side with photos from Jason Arnold, of Miami photography fame.  Real honor to be on the main site there and part of Rum Cay and Sumner Point!

This years Rum Cay Skydiving Trip was a blast and I am looking to do it again this coming winter.  Should have some details in the next month or so if they will do the skydiving gig again.

Brian Touhey lead the way to ZHills this winter and Skydive New England jumpers for Club Jump IN! followed.  Brian’s charge helped earn members their SCR, Star Crest Recipient award and made Parachutist this month!  Brain Touhey is an infamous local Skydive New England jumper and part of the local T-Minus :01 Skydiving four way team.  And although a small article, a BIG win for these younger and upcoming jumpers!  Congrats!

Jump In! is made up of new and up and coming jumpers providing a seamless transition between student status and the jumping community.  Experienced jumpers help newbies learn the ropes in all aspects of jumping, from gear to safety and aerial skills. The community nature of the group naturally attracts experienced jumpers into the fold and online conversations are safe enough that any question is valid. One of the coolest outcomes was the group taking on canopy safety, one of the biggest issues with new students on the DZ.  Because the conversation was there, it was natural for members to discuss, decide and try new ideas to help keep SNE’s skies safe.  If you are at SNE and blow the pattern, you might just getting a talking to by someone with 30 Jumps!!!!!!

What is unfolding at our DZ is a natural and close knit community.  Brian is one of the prime leaders in the community who saw the opportunity to be involved and Jumped IN!  His trip to Zhills is one of many.  He regularly leads groups to the tunnel in NH in conjunction with North East Air Crack.  It’s a great group.  We also do Jump IN! Wednesdays on the DZ with a BBQ, which has turned into a pot luck affair attracting families and spouses.  Late afternoon jumping and post jump seminars are the norm now.

The model will work for just about any drop zone.  I have always had the idea of taking this national.  If you would like more info on how to set up a group like this at your DZ or just want to know more, contact me, The Harry Parker
