All of us want dream of having a glowing complexion, free of blemishes and other impurities. However, many people suffer from acne, and it can prove to be a troublesome and often embarrassing problem. A sufferer may feel isolated and/or subdued, which can limit everything up to your career, as low self-esteem often hinders us from maximizing our full potential. While many products out there try to acquire your hard-earned money, keep in mind that a lot of them overcharge for a second rate product. Never forget that there are many simple strategies that can be employed prior to spending a fortune! Here are the best of them.

1. Don’t Over-Exfoliate
Exfoliation is very important in maintaining a great complexion. It breaks away the dull, dead skin cells that are on your face that take away from your natural glow. About a year ago, I purchased a full body exfoliant, and I was more than just a little impressed with the results. My skin was incredibly soft to the touch. I couldn’t help but be fascinated with my new, satiny feel. Every time I showered, I would use this incredible solution, and then, I started using it on my face. My skin was baby soft. After some time, I started suffering from cystic acne. These are boils that are deep in the skin and very hard to the touch. They take weeks to surface, if they ever surface at all, and the scar they leave if you try to pop them lasts for months. Having suffered from mild acne throughout my teenage years, I had yet to experience boils like these. It is said that the definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results, and this is exactly what I did wrong; I continued using the exfoliant regularly, until, one day, it hit me… maybe I was over-doing it. I ceased from using this exfoliant, purchased a less abrasive exfoliant geared toward facial use, and the boils have since stopped. The new product I am using is geared primarily toward rejuvenation, with a complementary leave on serum, which is helping tremendously in healing the scarring left by the cysts.

2. You Are What You Eat
We have all heard this age old adage, but few truly take it to heart. You really are what you eat. Though eating certain foods won’t increase your likelihood of acne outbreaks, eating well can do you lots of favors. Eating poorly won’t help any. An analysis of your diet will prove to show positive results. Eat meals high in raw fruits and vegetables, and up foods like berries & yogurt, which have been scientifically linked to healthy skin. As with virtually any body part or condition, the more water you drink, the healthier you’ll be!

3. Time To Put It To the Test
Now that you are armed with this knowledge, it’s up to you to use it in your daily life. By putting this advice to action, you can expect to start seeing positive results with persistence and an optimistic attitude!

Hard Working

Many of us spend hours and hours in the gym aiming to achieve our perfect body. We go way above and beyond the conventional wisdom which tells us to exercise vigorously for at least half an hour a day, constantly punishing ourselves with tough cardio workouts. Huge numbers of gym members become very frustrated as they don’t see gains as quickly as they would like. In some cases, many gym goers fail to see any improvement at all, despite their commitment to regular cardio workouts. This has inevitably led to people questioning how much exercise they really need which, when explored, is not a bad line of questioning to take.

Reasons Why

There are many reasons why individuals fail to see gains from gym attendance. Many, and I must confess I fall into this category, work hard in the gym then reward themselves with a takeaway and a few beers. Clearly this is not going to work, what you put in at the gym will only pay off if you adapt eating habits and lifestyle to help meet your goals.

Recent scientific studies, such as a recent BBC “Horizon” programme, have highlighted that much of what you achieve from exercise is actually down to an individual’s DNA. In the case of some individuals, constant cardio workouts may not have much of an effect. Indeed, the presenter of the programme saw significant gains in certain areas, such as blood sugar levels and ability of the body to process increased levels of these, from as little as three minutes intense exercise each week.

Will It Work For Me?

Taking low levels of exercise at a high intensity may not work for you, however if you do not particularly enjoy the tough cardio workouts you undertake at the moment then it may well be an option worth exploring. Obviously you need to ensure that you eat healthily as well as follow other general lifestyle tips to maintain a good level of overall fitness. General tips such as taking the stairs instead of the lift, and getting off the bus a stop or two earlier, will in a lot of cases be equally as effective as tough cardio workouts.

On the other hand, if you are a regular gym attendee and this is something you enjoy, then by all means continue. You will continue to feel the benefits of the cardio workouts you do on a daily basis, which will lead to increased health and wellbeing for you in the long term.

Do you catch every disease or infection going around? Some people are prone to getting the flu and other infections from the people around them. The reason this happens is because their immune systems are weak. Having a strong immune system ensures that you don’t end up suffering from every disease the season has to offer. Here are some ways to easily boost your immune system.

Relax and De-Stress

Stress is among the prime causes of many diseases. It wreaks havoc on your immune system. Research has shown that people facing a high stress level have weaker immune systems. You have to find a way to relax yourself and de-stress. Getting rid of the stress in your life is essential to ensure you don’t face health problems. You can pursue a favorite hobby, watch a movie or go for a swim. Anything goes as long as it helps you relax and release stress.

Physical Activity

The largely inactive lifestyle people live nowadays can lead to health issues. You need to get some physical activity to improve the blood flow in your body. This is essential for boosting your immune system. Exercise is the best option. You can take short power walks several times a day as well. Physical activity boosts your body’s defenses, enhancing the immune system.

Quit Smoking and Drinking

Excessive smoking and drinking causes your immune system to weaken. Tobacco smoke and alcohol both have been found to damage the cells in your body. Even if you want to have a drink, make sure it is not more than a glass or two. As far as smoking goes, the ideal option is to give it up altogether.

Use Canola or Olive Oil for Cooking

Many of the cooking oils you find today are loaded with saturated fats. On the other hand, canola and olive oil has healthy fats which boost your immune system. The taste of the food you cook does not get affected but your health improves significantly.

Eat Fruits and Veggies

Make fruits and vegetables a staple part of your daily diet. The more you eat them, the better it is for you. Have 4 to 5 serves of fruit every day. Your body’s immune system needs nutrients, especially vitamins. Eating fruits and veggies regularly ensures your body gets the nutrition it needs to boost your immune system. The best choices are the ones that are full of Vitamins A, C and E.

These are some of the ways in which you can boost your immune system easily. With these ways, you have the chance to keep yourself safe from all the viral diseases and infections that may be going around in your workplace or home. Stay healthy and live long!

Men with poor eating habits may be at greater risk for prostate cancer. Researchers are discovering more and more evidence that men who eat a diet that contains significant amounts of fat—especially fat from red meat—and higher-calorie foods are more prone to develop prostate cancer.

Study Involving Mice

A recent study used mice to determine the effect of a low-fat diet on the development of prostate cancer. The researchers observed that, in addition to regional differences in dietary habits, many environmental factors commonly associated with a Western diet, such as dietary fat, seem to promote the development of prostate cancer.

A number of other studies found that have reached similar conclusions. However, it’s important to note that still other studies have shown no association between dietary fat intake and prostate cancer risk.

Important Information about Fat

Fat is an energy source that’s composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Fat, which is a combination of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, belongs to a group of substances called lipids and can come in either a liquid or solid form.

The body receives calories from three nutrients: fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Fats contain nine calories per gram, more than twice the number of calories per gram from carbohydrates or proteins. Naturally, this means that a high-fat diet is be higher in calories.

The Correlation between Diet and Cancer

Prostate cancer seems to be more common where men live a distinctively Western lifestyle. Consequently, researchers examined diet very closely to determine if it is a significant risk factor. The results of the research have yet to provide cancer researchers and healthcare providers with conclusive proof.

There is, however, evidence from some studies of a link between prostate cancer and a diet that includes significant amounts of red meat and high fat dairy products. Conversely, because fruits and vegetables are low in fat and calories and high in fiber, they may actually protect against prostate cancer.

“A low-fat, plant-based diet can […] help reduce your risk [for cancer]. For optimum health, everyone should follow a healthy diet and exercise program and maintain a healthy BMI (body mass index).” stated Fred Butler, MD, medical director of IU Health West Hospital’s follow-up treatment clinic. The IU Health Proton Therapy Center in Bloomington, Ind., is one of only nine facilities nationwide which offers proton therapy, an innovative treatment option for prostate cancer.

Reducing Fat Consumption in the Diet

The body must have some fat in order to function properly. Fats contain essential linoleic acids, which control blood clotting, brain development and inflammation. Fish, especially some varieties of salmon, are high in omega-3 fatty acids and much lower in fat (and calories) than red meat. Olive oil is another healthy form of fat, and small amounts of olive oil are useful in cooking, especially when cooking lower fat foods like skinless chicken breasts and fish.

The California Food Guide offers some helpful guidelines and insights into good fats and bad fats. It also provides suggestions that can help men lower their fat intake and choose more healthful choices. The federal government replaced the Food Pyramid with a new program called Choose My Plate, which is designed to help people of all ages learn to make wiser choices with the foods they eat. It’s also designed to teach people about incorporating whole grains, fruits and vegetables into their diets, allowing them to reduce fat consumption and lower calorie intake in the process.

While there’s still no definitive link between diet and the prevalence of cancer, more and more research is beginning to indicate that this factor likely plays a large role in the development of prostate cancer. If you have an unhealthy diet, there is no guarantee that you will get cancer…but there is a chance. There’s no downside to a healthy diet, and you could be reducing your risk for the disease.

The human eye is very fragile and needs to be protected in order to prevent any vision conditions, infections, or problems. The following are a few important tips that can be followed to protect your eyes.

Protection from the Sun’s Harmful Rays:

The sun has harmful rays that can damage the eyes which is why it is so important that you keep your eyes protected while outdoors. First, everyone should invest in a good pair of sunglasses.

At the very least, they should have dark lenses but polarized sunglasses are one of the safer types of glasses because the lenses block the direct sunlight, and its reflections, from your eyes. Sunglasses that are made of polycarbonate are also good because polycarbonate is ten times stronger than any other plastic.

It is also important that you never look directly at the sun or at any objects that may reflect the sun’s rays, even if you are wearing sunglasses. Some of the objects that may reflect the sun’s rays are metallic or shiny objects, water, sand, and metal.

Eat Right:

Growing up, your parents probably told you to eat your carrots because they are good for eyesight. The truth is a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables, especially dark leafy greens help develop and improve eyesight. Spinach, collard greens, and kale are some of the dark leafy greens that you should include in your diet.

Television & Computers:

Remember not to sit too close to the television screen while watching T.V.; you should always sit a decent distance away from the screen. As for computers, you should keep the screen a decent distance away from your face, don’t forget to blink and look away from the computer screen often.

Laptops shouldn’t be too close to the face either, so it should be either on the lap or pushed back on a desk. Also follow the same protective tips that are listed above for computers. LCD monitors are less harsh on the eyes than normal CRT monitors.

Stay Healthy:

It is important to maintain a healthy weight because people that are overweight or obese have a higher chance of being diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes and other weight conditions can lead to vision problems.

It is also helpful to either quit smoking or to never start because smoking is just as bad for the human eyes as it is for the rest of the human body. Research has concluded that smoking increases the risk of developing certain vision problems that can lead to blindness.

Keep the Eyes Safe & Clean:

It is important to always wear goggles while swimming; this will protect the eyes from chlorine or any other cleaning products used in swimming pools. Remember to make sure that the goggles are tight around the eyes so that no water accidentally gets inside of them.

Also remember to carry eye drops with you. This is for when you are experiencing dryness, itchy eyes, or any burning sensations in the eyes. It is important to use eye drops rather than touching or rubbing your eyes because bacteria may get into them as a result of rubbing.

The above are all important tips that should be followed by everyone in order to protect their eyes from any infections or vision conditions. As I mentioned previously, the human eye is very fragile and can develop problems easily; therefore, it is important that these tips are followed daily.

Some smokers hate their addiction to cigarettes. They hate the social stigma, the cost, the negative health effects and more associated with smoking, yet they cannot break their habit. Other smokers have no desire to quit smoking, but they also dislike the downsides associated with smoking. The fact is that smoking traditional cigarettes does have many drawbacks associated with it. Electronic cigarettes are designed to provide smokers with their nicotine fix in a device that looks and feels like a traditional cigarette. However, many of the negative aspects of smoking are eliminated with E cigarettes.

What an Electronic Cigarette Is

Electronic cigarettes are essentially an electronic version of a cigarette. Most are battery-operated and feature a rechargeable battery and recharging station. They allow a smoker to inhale an aerated mist of nicotine with each inhalation, which satisfies nicotine cravings. However, unlike traditional cigarettes, there is no tobacco or flame used with e cigarettes. This means that many of the unhealthy ingredients found in traditional cigarettes are not found in the electronic version. Further, because there is no flame, there also is no smoke, ash or odor with electronic cigarettes. This removes the social stigma associated with smoking.

How Electronic Cigarettes Work

E cigarettes are designed to give a smoker the experience of smoking without the drawbacks. Most of these devices feature a lithium battery, a cartridge and a chamber where the vaporization process takes place. The battery operation heats up a nicotine liquid and turns it into a vapor, but this is done without fire or flame. Depending on which model of electronic cigarette is used, the smoker may breathe in the nicotine vapor by inhaling on the cartridge, or the smoker may be required to push a manual release button to access to vapor. These electronic cigarettes require the smoker to change out the nicotine cartridge and to recharge the battery as needed.

Special Features

Electronic cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular. As a result, there are now numerous brands and models available to choose from. Many allow a smoker to select the amount of nicotine available in a single cartridge. Some are available with specific flavors, which may mimic the flavor of popular brands of traditional cigarettes. More unique flavors like coffee, strawberry, chocolate and more are also available. Further, many of these models feature a unique glowing mechanism that mimics the look of a real cigarette. Some have the same color as a traditional cigarette, but others are available in unique and trendy colors. These special features allow a smoker to fully customize his or her smoking experience.

With smoking traditional cigarettes is now banned in many hotels, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, workplaces and more, many smokers are considering the benefits of electronic cigarettes. These cigarettes allow the smoker to “light up” anywhere and at anytime as they do not release smoke that may bother others. Some smokers continue to smoke traditional cigarettes at home while using electronic cigarettes while at work or in public. Others have entirely given up traditional cigarettes and have transitioned to E cigarettes.

If you’re ready to make the switch from traditional cigarettes to electronic cigarettes Canada, you can find a wide selection at Vaporus. http://www.vaporus.com/

The first ten tips are helpful for curing skin issues. The next 15 tips will keep your skin beautiful, healthy and feeling great!

1. Stretch Marks- There are a variety of creams and lotions available to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but the only way to erase them completely is with fast and easy laser treatment.

2. Stubborn Acne- An acne peel with alpha and beta hydroxy acids is great for unclogging pores.

3. Chronic Acne- If your acne is really unmanageable, your doctor may prescribe a medication to prevent acne before it starts.

4. Dark Spots- Botanical skin lighteners may do the trick! If these don’t work, a chemical peel should reduce the appearance of dark spots.

5. Fine Lines- Fine lines and wrinkles can be treated with creams and ointments that contain retinol, a collagen boosting agent.

6. Sun Damage- Nasty tan lines? Treat them with lemon juice, which can lighten skin naturally, or get a chemical peel.

7. Undereye Circles- Cold spoons are a great quick-fix for undereye circles, but you can prevent them from getting enough rest and using an overnight eye cream.

8. Orange Tan- Wipe down with lemon juice and tomato sauce, then shower. The natural acids in these fruits helps remove the orange stain.

2. Daily Sunscreen- UV rays are harmful to your skin! Make sure your skin care products have at least SPF 10, and spritz on sunscreen before heading outside.

3. Go Natural- Buy skin cleansers that have ingredients like aloe, licorice, and chamomile, which can prevent irritation from facial cleansers.

4. Eat Bell Peppers- These vitamin rich vegetables are your skin’s best friend!

5. Indulge in berries- Loaded with antioxidants, berries help reduce the appearance of UV damage in your skin.

6. Green Tea- It hydrates and protects against cancer-causing UV damage.

7. Replace Makeup Applicators- Makeup applicators should be replaced every 1-2 months.

8. Night Moisturize- Buy a night cream or mask that will moisturize your skin while you sleep.

9. Limit Powder- Pressed powder can clog your pores. Limit it and limit pimples!

10. Simple Makeup- Don’t cake on so much makeup, and keep it oil free!

Cancer research has been on-going for years, but technology and tests conducted to understand what cause chordoma rare form of cancer that develops in the bones of the spine and skull. Specialists are beginning to understand how the symptoms of the disease can affect treatment. Extensive research has been conducted on chordoma and some breakthroughs have been made.

What exactly is chordoma?

Chordomas are cancerous growths that develop on the spine and skull bones. They mainly occur in the clivus bone, located in the head, and the coccyx or sacrum bones on the lower end of the spine. They also grow on the bones of the neck and upper or lower back. Some chordomas grow and spread more rapidly than others. Around 300 people in the United States are diagnosed with this life-threatening condition each year.

The exact cause of chordomas is not fully understood. One possible explanation is that they form from embryonic cells that remain in the skull and spine. Some scientists believe that chordomas can form if these cells become malignant. They seem to occur randomly, although there have been rare cases of chordomas in multiple family members. There is also a greater occurrence of chordomas in patients with tuberous sclerosis.

Ways to treat chordoma

Chordomas are usually surgically removed unless they’re too close to certain areas like the brain stem. If a tumor’s location makes it too difficult or risky to remove, patients may undergo other forms of treatment. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are often used when chordomas have spread to other areas of the body.

Proton therapy has also shown promise as an effective non-invasive treatment method. Proton beams are capable of emitting higher radiation doses compared to other forms of radiation when used to treat chordomas in risky areas.

Proton therapy can also provide greater accuracy and precision, which means that the areas around the chordomas receive much less radiation than they would with traditional therapy. Currently, there are only 10 proton centers in the United States, including the IU Health Proton Therapy Center in Bloomington, Ind.

More about chordomas

Chordomas that develop at or near the base of the skull, called cervical chordomas, mainly affect the head and neck. Common symptoms include neurological impairment, headaches, double vision and neck pain. Facial paralysis, difficulty swallowing or speaking and a tingling sensation in the arms can all result from large cervical tumors. The average age of a cervical chordoma patient is 49 years old.

Chordomas located along the spine in the mid to lower back, or sacral, region can lead to weak leg muscles, numbness or aches in the legs and bladder or bowel function impairment. These symptoms typically do not appear until the chordoma is large. The initial sign of a sacral chordoma is usually a lump in the affected region. Sacral chordomas occur in patients with an average age of 69.

Since chordomas are difficult to identify, doctors often perform several tests to check for signs of bone damage. These tests include computed tomography (CT) scans, traditional X-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. They can also be used to help doctors determine what type of treatment would be the most effective.

The average rate of survival for chordoma patients in the United States is seven years. The prognosis for this deadly disease has become more positive as methods of diagnosis and treatment have improved. Long-term survival occurs primarily in patients who have had the entire tumor surgically removed. In those with larger or more numerous chordomas, radiation therapy has been able to prolong their lives.

With further research and testing the hope is to ultimately develop a cure for the disease. In the meantime, the focus is on further developing treatments to keep the disease contained and extend the life expectancy of patients who have it.

Most people are guilty of using food to stave off their feelings of guilt, worry and sadness. This is referred to as emotional eating; and it works. Everyone knows the sitcom scenario where the woman has a broken heart and heads immediately for the freezer, where she binges on a pint of her favorite ice cream. This is not something that only happens on television; when people feel sad, upset or depressed they often reach for their favorite comfort food to help them feel better. This is because many foods have the ability to change a person’s mood by increasing chemical levels in their body. In short, what you eat plays a big role in how you feel.

Positive Feelings

One food that can help you to feel better is coffee. The reason for this is that the caffeine levels in coffee provide you with the ability to focus better, think sharper, and it improves your mood in addition to giving you more energy. Foods containing chocolate and sugar have ingredients called anandamines and phenylethylamine, which have a drug-like effect on a person. This has a big influence on your good mood, making you feel happy and relaxed. Carbohydrates have a positive effect on the production of serotonin on the brain, which improves a person’s mood.

With so many good foods causing you to feel so good about yourself and your situation, you may be tempted to pick up a big bag of your favorite chocolates on the way home today. Before doing that, understand that there are negative effects to be had with “mood food.”

Negative Effects

It is tempting to pick up one of those bite size candy bars from the candy dish the next time you feel down, but it is important to note that the positive effect eating chocolate has on you is offset by an even bigger negative effect. Oftentimes, it is difficult to stop after just one bite size piece of delicious chocolate. If you can, then by all means go ahead. But if you are one of the millions of people who cannot stop at just one, stop and think before you eat. Most of the time, your feelings of sadness are temporary. This means that it won’t take you long to snap out of your bad mood.

By making the decision to binge on junk food because it makes you feel good, you are running the risk of making yourself feel even worse. While you may feel good while you eat an entire bag of chocolate, you are going to experience feelings of guilt when you are finished. Using food to curb your bad feelings is a form of overeating and can lead you to feel guilty, depressed and gain an unhealthy amount of weight.

Handling Your Moods

Food may temporarily improve your mood, but it will not change your feelings of sadness or depression; it will only make them worse. Food will not make you happy during a difficult time. However, a healthy diet in conjunction with regular exercise, exposure to sunlight and open communication with your loved ones can make you feel happy. If you can eat your chocolate and other tasty treats in moderation, there is no reason to deprive yourself. Your morning coffee and a decadent dessert after dinner is a great way to improve your mood without making you feel guilty. Using food to improve your mood is not a bad idea, if you are using it the right way, which is to eat healthy. Nothing tastes as good as healthy feels, including bite size chocolates.

Mono is also known as kissing disease for the reason that individuals can have it from kissing another individual who contains the virus. However, since mono is spread by means of saliva, an individual does not necessarily only get it by kissing a person who has mono. It can also be transmitted by drinking on the same straw, sharing a toothbrush or using the same eating utensils with an individual who has the mono.

There is an excellent cause why many individuals are puzzled on how long is mono contagious. It is for the reason that mono inside the human body acts very complicated. Mono is short for mononucleosis. It is brought about by an infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus or EBV, it is a virus classified under the herpes family.

When an individual attains mono, the virus remains inside that individual’s body for eternity. However, this does not automatically mean that if you got mono you are for all the time infectious. As the time passed by the virus turn out to be less contagious. Ultimately, it is extremely improbable that an individual who acquired mono will spread the virus to another person. Individuals who acquired mono can be infectious from the point they first happen to be contaminated by the virus. However, they may not recognize that they acquired the virus in its early phases. That is for the reason that it will get a while from the occasion an individual is contaminated to the point where in the symptoms and manifestations of mono reveal and show. This will be in approximately four to seven weeks in reality. This time is known as the period of incubation.

To make it even more perplexing is that several individuals can transmit the virus while they do not show any symptoms of mono, so they do not know that they have mono and that they are contagious after all.

Mono requires having its natural course. The Symptoms of Mono may persist from two to four weeks and several individuals feel fatigued for some weeks longer. It is necessary to take care of your body if you acquired mono and have plenty of rest.

Health care providers and experts are not precisely certain how long a person suffering from mono remains contagious if the symptoms already disappear. However, it is usually thought that an individual can transmit the infection for a period of several months following the disappearance of symptoms. Some research reveal as long as eighteen months. However, following that it is greatly improbable that someone is still contagious.
