Woza Online Does Not Appear on Search Engines

I built a site on WOZA about a week ago and it still does not appear on Search Engines! I suggest blogger or Word Press if you want to build a site! Also the so called first 10 000 people to register on Woza were meant to get a free .co.za url! I have heard no news from Woza either. The templates are also really bad there are much better templates on google sites! Ask me Woza was a waste of my time!!!

Competing priorities

Life is tough. There always seem to be more expenses than money in the purse and the price of everything seems to be going up faster than your salary increases. There are so many things competing for a share of your hard-earned money, and most of them are due now or at least sometime soon.

This is why most South Africans fall into the “I’ll save for retirement when I have enough money” trap. And we are not alone. The Wall Street Journal recently published an article dubbing many of today’s US pre-retirees the “Ostrich Generation” – observing that they are sticking their heads in the sand instead of proactively working on a retirement plan.

However, if you think life is tough now, imagine yourself in your 60’s or 70’s, unable to work, living off your savings or perhaps frail, with insufficient income. The “enough money” you were dreaming about may never happen as our lives get increasingly more demanding and complex and we continue to delay saving for retirement.

This article touches on a handful of issues facing pre- and post-retirees in the current South African socio-economic climate.

SA latest retirement statistics

Let us start with some recent and very sobering statistics regarding retirement in South Africa:

A 2011 survey*** has found that an alarming 80% of pensioners have not completely achieved their pre-determined retirement goals.

Another survey form 2010** paints a similar picture, with only 26% of retirement plan members having adequate funds at retirement. The other 74% experience a shortfall.

According to the 2011 Old Mutual Retirement Monitor, only 54% of respondents (all in full time employment) who are currently 10 years or less away from retirement age are actually saving for their retirement.

Keeping up with the Radebes

Saving habits are more of a question of priorities than a question of having “enough”. South Africans in particular choose to overspend in order to keep up with what is perceived to be the acceptable standard of living. Almost 90% of South Africans spend more money than they earn – growing their debt and leaving no room for savings and investments.

According to a 2011 survey*, young working South Africans prefer the acquisition of assets (like cars and houses) to retirement savings. As consumers move into middle age, paying for children’s education takes precedence over saving. As would be expected, retirement saving only becomes a top priority when individuals start heading into the older age brackets. However, by then, the time remaining is short and the ability to accumulate enough savings is seriously diminished.

Employer guaranteed pensions are a thing of the past

Things have certainly changed in South Africa in the past 20 years, and these changes extend right through your finances.

Up to about 20 years ago, defined benefit (DB) pension schemes were the norm. They were called that because, quite simply, your benefits were defined. After a number of years with your employer, you were certain to receive a pre-determined percentage of your final salary. What’s more, this was guaranteed for life and with inflation increases every year. Presto! No need to worry about a thing, it was all taken care of.

DB schemes have largely been phased out, replaced with defined contribution (DC) plans. As this name suggests, it is your contribution amount (as a % of your monthly salary) that is defined. Your benefit is not pre-determined.

A DC arrangement works very much like a savings account – you get out what you have put in plus or minus returns on your investment (net of expenses/fees). Therefore, if the contributions are not sufficient, or the investment return is too low, or the expenses are too high, the end result is a shortfall in your retirement pot.

You can no longer sit back and rely on a steady pension income from your employer sponsored retirement plan. The ball is firmly in your court. You need to manage and drive your own retirement savings, be it with your employer or through a private policy and hopefully with the aid of an experienced, knowledgeable investment adviser.

Longevity

Living long is a blessing, no doubt. Medical advancements extend our life spans, as does the increasing awareness of healthy life habits. This trend has been observed globally – people live longer.

South Africans, however, underestimate how long they will live post retirement – according to a recent survey*, almost half (43%) of workers surveyed expect not to live more than 10 years past retirement age. Statistics disagree.

Data from the South African Annuitant Standard Mortality table shows that more than 50% of men who survive to age 65 will survive past age 80, and that more than 50% of women who survive to age 65 will survive past age 85. In other words, those who plan on retiring at age 65 need to plan for at least 20 years of retirement income, and maybe even more.

This in part explains why nearly half of the pensioners surveyed believe that they do not have sufficient funds to last them through retirement.

My children will look after me

Some decades ago it was not only acceptable, but even expected, that children and grandchildren would look after the aged. This trend, too, has changed.

A 2010 survey** shows that a very small percentage of post retirement income is expected to come from family support. In fact, while a number rely (at least in part) on financial assistance from children or other family members, a significant portion of pensioners are primary breadwinners, in many cases supporting both adult and minor dependents. In fact, 58% of retirees have some dependants***.

There are many reasons which may be suggested here: high unemployment rates, especially among the youth; high HIV rates, leaving grandparents fending for the grandchildren, etc. Whatever the reasons, the facts are stark. You have to rely mostly on yourself in your golden years.

I will work into my retirement

58% of South Africans expect to work after retirement, and the majority says they will need to do so for financial reasons**. This is fine if you are fit and healthy at 70. However, what if you are too frail or too ill to work?

In addition, with the high youth unemployment rates in SA, a retiree might simply not be able to get a job, part time or full time, as these would most likely go to the youth. Thus planning to work through your retirement is not much of a plan at all.

What to do next?

If you are still not convinced that you need to start putting away for your golden years, then take some advice from your elders***:

"Pensioners are again very clear in their advice to active members who still have the opportunity to take corrective measures:

Start investing and saving as early as possible
Start planning for retirement at an early age
Make more enquiries and learn more about investments, investment choices and retirement".

always remember the power of compound interest, and
get financial advice, get it early, and get it often.

Benefits of Colon Cleansing

Depending on the purpose of doing an enema, the benefits that you may receive could cover health, well being, pleasure, pain or vitality aspects. As enemas can be carried out for medical reasons and attended under physician's supervision in clinics and hospitals, it is also known that many individuals practice them for erotic purposes, including BDSM activities such as Bondage (BD), Bondage and Discipline (B&D), Domination and submission (D&S, DS, D/S) and Sadism, Masochism or Sadomasochism (S&M, SM).

However, most people use enemas as part of alternative healing and wellness therapies, because they are relatively simple procedure to perform whether self-administered or by another person. The colon is the end portion of the human digestive tract (large intestine) and it is approximately 5 to 5 and half feet long and 2 and a half inches in diameter. The intestine function is to conserve water in the body and eliminate the waste from the body which, in average individuals, may have 10 to 25 pounds of dried fecal matter lying down in their colon that increases it size with obesity or allergic patterns.

Regardless the selected therapy, colonic treatment benefits can often be quickly observed in the form of improved bowel function altogether with bright clearer skin, increasing of mental clarity, and fewer headaches in comparison with those observed before the cleansing. Enemas are effective in primary bowel conditions of IBS, where colic and spasm may be relieved, as well as in constipation, where the impactions can be expelled while the bowel muscle is exercised by water temperature variation and also diverticulosis where regular elimination is important.

With the use of enemas as colonic irrigation method, many secondary conditions accompanied by poor bowel mechanics can also be aided, especially those affecting the skin, kidneys, lungs and urinary tract. The colon, as all these other eliminative organs, is responsible for eliminating waste from the body, but over time, it might lose its ability to properly do it from the gastrointestinal tract due to an improper lifestyle, poor diet, or abuse in alcohol or drugs intake.

Colon cleansing hydrotherapies are benefic to destroy all anaerobic organisms in the large bowel, including pathogens that produce a wide range of diseases. Enemas can remove parasites from the intestines thanks to the warm water used in the therapy which has a definite calming effect on the nervous system. A colon cleansing treatment in overweight people can eliminate as much as 8 to 30 pounds of dried fecal matter over a series of treatments by merely cleansing out their lower gastrointestinal tract, clearing the colon of the waste material, stimulating the immune systems and restoring proper pH balance to the body.

Enemas associated with the colon cleansing practice, allow freer passage of nutrients into the blood by increasing prevention of toxic absorption via healthy mucosa and creating a favorable environment for "good bacteria" and micro flora required for proper digestion and promoting the return of normal, regular bowel movements. Other common health problems that are helped by enemas and colon cleansing hydrotherapy include common illnesses such as insomnia, allergies, anxiety, worry, irritability, asthma, fatigue, depression, tension, cold hands and feet, loss of memory, loss of concentration, blood pressure, menstrual problems, overweight, flatulence, poor appetite, abdominal distention, indigestion, colds, prostate trouble, sagging posture, hemorrhoids and hypoglycemia.

Finally, immune and circulatory problems often also improve with colonic treatment, including the treatment of cancer in its early stage.

Police hunt down petrol station robbers

Police are searching for three men who robbed at least two Helderberg filling stations on Monday morning.

Two armed men cornered cash van guards at a BP garage in Strand at 7:30am before fleeing the scene with more than R120,000.

A little later, a man robbed an Engen filling station in Macassar.

It is understood he forced the owner, at gunpoint, to handover cash.

The police's Andre Traut said, “The men fled with the cash and hijacked a vehicle outside the garage. The vehicle was then spotted by police on the N2 Highway. A high speed chase then ensured before the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Khayelitsha. They fled on foot.”

Starting this year off with the intention of reclaiming my joy, pursuing a more spiritual approach and generally finding my Mojo, I thought it apt to post these profound words by the Dalai Lama.

I often quote them, without crediting them.
But what a great way to start off the new year with these wise words to guide us.

Instructions for Life by The Dalai Lama

Gordon's Bay Beach Filthy

On Sunday, I took my kids to Gordon's Bay. It was one of those rare days that the wind was not blowing and the sky was bright blue. There are rides on the beach front and my kids really enjoyed themselves jumping on the bungee trampolines!

Then we went down to the beach, the water was flat and it reminded me of the "old" Gordon's Bay days when as a child I used to spend hours in the water. We laid out our towels and my kids ran off into the sea. I joined them, then looked down at my feet and could not believe the filth beneath my feet! Garbage every where from plastic bags, wrappers, disposable nappies and even a pad! I called my kids in and we collected three bags of litter.

If all of us going to the beach could collect a few bags of rubbish, then perhaps we could make a dent in this sea of trash. We could lead by example and perhaps the trash that litter our beaches may think twice before they litter our beaches.

What I have realised is that when I am depressed, the comfort food I seek is not roasted chicken and all the trimmings. No, I seek the clean, mouth filling textures of sushi.

Yes.

Sushi, sashimi, nigiri. The words roll off the tongue like raindrops...

Somehow sushi comforts when one is down, adds to any celebration, no matter how small and is instant gratification all rolled up in a neat, edible piece of art.

K and I know our local sushi joints like the back of our hands. And the one that wins hands down is ‘Blue Waters’ in Somerset West.

We love Gu and Brian like family.

It is not pretentious and does not aspire to be anything but what it is. Our local sushi joint.

Did you know that it can take up to 11 years to become trained in the art of sushi?

I have watched Brian grow and learn and as he has, so have his Japanese inspired body tattoos.

I am glad that they have not ‘ bastardized’ their menu by offering deep fried California rolls or fish fingers. Seriously, what is that? An attempt to turn what is an art form into yet another carcinogenic offering to the masses?

You will find some interesting takes on well known favourites, but my all time favourite is and always will be, their salmon roses. They are the best I have EVER eaten... They even come in two sizes! Yummy!

Of course if you do not drink Saki, the next best pairing would be a full bodied Chardonnay or a perky Chenin Blanc. I am particularly fond of the Kleine Zalze bush vines Chenin.

SNOW was spotted on Cape mountaintops yesterday, adding flurry to a bizarre month of weather for the country.

Snow fell on the Hottentots Holland, Groenland and Helderberg mountains and on Du Toits Peak.

Summer seemed buried under sheets of rain as Cape Times Discovery Big Walk participants braved the soggy streets. And the final day of the three-day annual Wine2Whales mountain bike race was cancelled owing to wet conditions.

While it has been cold in the Western Cape this month, the northern parts of South Africa have been experiencing a heatwave. SA Weather Service national forecaster and meteorologist Karl Loots said: “There is a huge contrast between the northern and southern parts of the country.”

The SA Weather Service defines a heatwave as a period of three days or more when the temperature is five degrees above the average maximum temperature for that time of year. In Pretoria, the temperature has been 34°C or higher for four days, five degrees above the average maximum of 29°C.

Conditions in the Western Cape are less readily defined. “The snow is strange,” said Loots. “But it is only occurring lightly and in high, concentrated mountain areas.”

SA Weather Service forecaster and meteorologist for Cape Town Henning Grobler said: “The snow on the mountaintops has happened before unseasonably and it will probably happen again. It will be partly cloudy the rest of the week and then it will clear up. Summer is right around the corner.”

Homeless Man Driven Over in Car Park

Yesterday, a homeless man was driven over while sleeping on the grass in a car park on Caledon Street, Somerset West.

A car drove over a homeless man while he lay sleeping on the grass. It took about 8 people to lift the car to get the man out from beneath the vehicle. EMO was quick to respond, the man was taken away to Hottentots Holland Hospital for further medical attendance.
