Some of Britain’s top cyclists will converge on Stafford to compete in the 3rd Round of the British Cycling Elite Circuit Race Series, a season long competition that showcases the nations fastest and most skillful riders in this short-course version of road racing.

The new partnership will see the event make a number of commitments to help raise awareness and money for the The Hibbs Lupus Trust, including a new opportunity for the public to get directly involved in raising money for the charity with the creation of the Lupus Lap, which is a one off chance for the public to ride the course the professionals will take on later in the same evening.

The Lupus Lap will be open to 100 participants who will each pay a small entry fee to ride a lap of the professional course before the Stafford Grand Prix itself kicks off on the evening of the 4th July. The ‘Lupus Lappers’ then ride one lap of the professional course before the start of the professional race. Each participant gets a commemorative number to pin to their jersey which they get to keep as a souvenir of the event.

The Lupus Lap entry is now open via the British Cycling website.

The first meeting will be held in partnership with Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust where Consultant Rheumatologist Dr Venkat Chalam will be giving information on lupus and its treatment.

Recently, whilst out for a leisurely cycle, Jack asked his mom how he could use his enjoyment of cycling to help others. And with little hesitation, Jack decided to raise funds for The Hibbs Lupus Trust after seeing stories of money raising in the local press.

Jack asked his family for donations and along with Mom and Grandad, set about the challenging 11 mile cycle ride on Saturday 25th February 2012. With a practise run under his belt, Jack was ready. Starting from his home in Hednesford, his route took him around Cannock Chase and its many landmarks and all the way back again.

Jack then kindly donated the money he had raised to the Hibbs Lupus Trust where it will be used to help patients of lupus in the Staffordshire area. Jack has certainly inspired our Lupus2Lupus team!

Why we use JustGiving

• The 6 hour Challenge, Sunday 10am: Where solos and teams of two, four or six compete to complete as many laps of the 7km course as possible..it’s great fun and aimed at runners of all abilities!
