Boy, it’s been a week for ‘net news and big changes on the Internet Marketing scene. Squidoo and Knol and now Google. The one that has lots of IMers frustrated and quaking is the announcement by Matt Cutts of Google. Apparently for a year now Google has virtually ignored no follow pages and thus gives rank to any site linked to yours – even those spammy comments on your blog.

Well, this subject is bigger than I can handle so I am going to point you to an excellent discussion on it here: http://ezseonews.com/internet-marketing-tips/ezseo-newlsetter-245/ by Dr. Andy Williams. He explains it so thoroughly that I’ll leave it tp the experts to sort this one out.

It’s not the end of the world. But it appears we will just have to watch those comments that could drain the PR “bank” as it were. As to how to handle the other pages that are ranked like the Policy pages, well, I will be watching the masters and see how they handle it.

For now, I just want to put out the best and not worry about the whole thing. Good always triumphs over the bad – even if it appears that the bad gets more than its share.

OK. I have to admit up till now most of what Tony has been teaching in his course was fairly familiar. I have been following along filling in the blanks as it were, using the course to be my mentor. You see I know lots about all of Internet Marketing and have written ebooks, articles, designed web pages – all of it. I guess you can say I just didn’t have a plan. So the Internet Marketing Kickstart course is just that for me. And it is excellent for that purpose.

Anyway, Lesson 13 – Lucky 13 has been the best so far for me. Why? I am trying to use any “free” means to get traffic to my sites and this lesson was specifically on how to write and distribute viral reports. Now I have read a dozen reports on viral marketing but never have I learned as much as I did in this 16 pager. Just the advice on writing titles was worth this month’s membership fee.

If you were wondering if the $27 a month is worth it? Just remember that you are getting the equivalent of 4 detailed no nonsense reports for the price of one each and every month for a year.

If you haven’t met Tony yet, grab your copy of an interview I did with him recently. You get it free when you subscribe to this blog. Right up there to the right >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Anyway, I am off to do this weeks assignment – to write a viral report. You’ll be the first to get a copy, too.

Wow! Has it been 3+ weeks? Besides a short vacation and doing overtime with the in-laws, I have been away from the business side of the ‘net. But I’m back at ready to hit the WWW big time!

Big set back with Tony’s Kickstart Course. I found out I have a broken link in my sales funnel so I am plugging the leaks. I am sure I would have seen some clicks by now but when I saw that big boo boo that explains a lot. That will teach me to not check my loops before I get things running smoothly. Hey I’m still learning!

Notice: I am adding Tiffany Dow’s interview to the membership sign up. Anyone on my list gets that goodie for free! First it will go to my list then I’ll stick it in the auto responder for newcomers. So be sure to sign up to get this awesome interview with one of the most professional women I know and am privileged to work with.

Next time I’ll give you the skinny on the Kickstart Course hopefully with some solid numbers for you (I am so embarrassed).

Well, on to lesson 9 and I am getting my post count up on my “forum” project. You see, Tony has us visiting forums in our niche to create a presence in an attempt to become a perceived expert. Kind of dodgy for me as I will never feel an expert on anything but changing diapers (I have had 9 kids).

After all, one could get philosophical and drone on about how article marketing is dying (no it’s not BTW) or the best way to sprinkle long tail keywords in content to please the human eye and the search engines, blah blah blah

Back to being an “expert” on forums. If from your own personal knowledge, not a guess or some imaginary blather, you can give real solid help, then do it.

I have to get over the fact that so many folks on the forums are groupies (sorry gang) and hang out for the kick of it like students at the local pub. Most of what goes on is jabber but once in a while you have a guy in the corner quietly adding to the conversation and generally being a great guy. He’s the one folks will remember later as the guy who made a tiny difference. that maybe sparked something in someone else.

There are times to just hang out but for now I need to make my time count so I visit the forums to see if some new gal or guy is beggin for help and try to add by two cents.

Thanks, Tony Shepherd, for the great lesson on forum visiting. This quiet wallflower will begin to take part to see if I can help someone else on the same road.

P.S. if you are wondering if I am making ann money from my projects, the honest answer is no. BUT that is not due to the lack of help in Tony’s course – but my own busy life. I have faithfully done the lessons and only just got my Clickbank product approved (yes!) So now, I can say I am ready to proceed. Sales letter is up at http://imtradesecrets.info for all to see. I will have all the links checked and be live soon.

Why is it that we wait till after someone has broken into our home to install a burglar alarm? Do we think we are somehow immune to theft and vandalism until we become a victim ourselves? I, for one, have heard of a rash of horror stories where Internet marketers sites are getting hacked leaving them devastated and angry after losing hours and hundreds of pages of content.

What can you do? WordPress makes every effort to make their blogging platform hack proof but it turns out that the leak comes in other more easily accessible avenues . Like your password. It seems that that is the easiest place to gain entry. So trick number one is to pick very hard to guess user names and passwords.

You can get a free WordPress security plugin that will plug up the remaining easy to find holes.

Basically, what we need to do is to make out site hard to hack so the “thieves” will give up and move on to easier targets.

How do I know all this? Thanks to blog master, Craig Desorcy, who just put out “Blog LockDown” – you cannot lose with his excellent instruction and step by step screen shots. Even a technodummie like me can get under the hood of my sites and lock them down. Read more about it here.

So, what is a little peace of mind worth to you?

OK. I am on lesson 5 of the Internet Marketing Kickstart Course. One of the longest lessons, it is actually one of the easier ones, truth be told. It mostly has to do with signing up with Clickbank and gives great tips on pitfalls to avoid.

I have to admit, this is where I get hung up though. While I have a strong creative bent – it is easy for me to write and design web pages – I come up short with self confidence. I begin to wonder do I have anything really worth, say, $27 to someone else? So taking the Clickbank step is not an easy one for me simply because I have these voices telling me “make it bigger, make it better. Don’t do it – it isn’t worth it…”

But I have a monkey on my back that is goading me on; no, two monkeys. Tony Shepherd and Sara Brown. They are my cheerleaders. Then there is my husband that believes in me and my kids, too.

So get yourself a support team. Whatever is keeping you from taking the next step, take my advice (which comes from Tony)

Just do it! (and clean up the mess later)

While you don’t want to offer cr** to your customers, stop with the analysis paralysis. Just Do it!

Chill on the details and whether the formatting looks right – Just do it!!

You can’t sell it if it isn’t out there connected to a Paypal button. Just get it out there and let your customers tell you how to “fix” your report.

OK. Now on to Clickbank!

The Internet is here to stay. From its small beginning as a medium of communication between government departments and research facilities it has exploded to be a worldwide transcontinental network upon which most business is already using as it’s life’s blood or will soon. It seems a fact that if you are not on the ‘net you will not “be” at all, in the future.

What is more is that Internet marketing is the way of the advertiser. Marketers love it as it gives them a huge, no, monstrous crowd to market to and the store never has to close. This spells nearly unlimited opportunity for those who know how to tap into it.

And that is where marketing to Internet marketers and other businesses plays a big role. Many may say that the make money online or Internet marketing niche is too saturated – that there is no chance for the new marketer to get a piece of the pie – but it simply isn’t true. While some have been in the game a bit longer and have an established piece of ground, there is always room for the enterprising entrepreneur who is willing to add his or her slant to it.

The key is to learn how to do some aspect of the process – maybe web design, or make creative headers or other graphics, retell in your own way how to get traffic to your site, or some short cut to article writing… the key is to do it yourself and then tell others how to do it, too. I call it “selling shovels” and for good reason. Offer the tools and systems for other marketers and they will pay you for them.

Be helpful. Go the extra mile. While I understand you are “hungry” and want to make that fabled thousands of dollars online, now is the time to give and give and give. Be known for giving great info – info others might even charge for. This will help you establish a reputation and a relationship which is the key to success in this highly competative economy.

In order for you to understand better how to sell shovels, I wrote a report you can get free if you sign up for my blog. I promise I won’t write junk. So why not give it a try?

!OK. I am nowhere near retirement age myself but even if I was I would never consider “retiring” – EVER!

Want to know the quickest way to die? Retire!! I have watched two very vital, intelligent men slowly die over the past 10-12 years. All because they bought into the “turn 62 and retire” thing. While most men and women may look forward to their retirement years as a reward for their long years of service, if they don’t have some sort of occupation planned, they will wither.

Why retire? Why not just take planned sabaticals or long vacations if your company allows it. Perhaps your company “forces” retirement so in that case, plan to occupy yourself as a volunteer or as a consultant in your field of expertise.

All I know is that these men and many countless others like them, may start out enjoying their freedom. But very quickly the doldrums hit them. My dad and father-in-law both in their own way have shriveled in health and mind. Even with constant RVing activity as in my dad’s case, he just is depressed much of the time.

Did you know that retirement is a relatively new phase of a person’s life? FDR invented retirement back in the Great Depression to make way for younger breadwinners when times were tight. He then had to invent Social Security and pension funds to help tide these newly unemployed oldsters.

Before that people just worked until they couldn’t. Retirement was not even thought of. But now we think retirement is the expected thing for a 55 – 65 your old worker and many companies still force it.

Well, there is a new paradigm taking shape and that is to not retire but taper off or even take on a new employment.

Being self-employed is ideal: you never really retire you just shift management to someone else and keep your hand in it as you see fit.

For those who still love their job but plan to retire someday, think about how you will spend that time off. Plan to take time to travel if that’s what you want but more importantly think about how you will spend the rest of the time. There are some great books that come to mind and one is Why Retire? Rewire!
