This is not a blog which is intended to read ones horoscope information, like we do in modern time. This is rather an introduction into how the first thoughts, about the zodiac signs occur.
The best way to read this blog, is probably from the beginning, starting with Aries. The Greeks followed a path as it would seem.

<creativeCommons:license>http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/</creativeCommons:license>

Some Rights Reserved

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="self" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheHistoryOfAstrology" type="application/rss+xml" />

The Astrological Ages

The Twelve ages of the Zodiac

The modern thoughts and theories behind the concept of an astrological age, probably comes directly from the conceptions about Jesus, from his birth until his death (maybe even the three days after) and then the ancient Egyptians offer some extra evidence for these theories.

What age… Aquarius? Huh-ah! Time to get going!
Many experts on the topic of astrology agree that we about to entered the Age of Aquarius, or that it is in the near future. And then there are others that have other theories, such as, that this age was more than four centuries ago.
The ages of the zodiac is based upon the phenomenon known as the precession of the equinoxes. The precession of the equinoxes is the rotations of the earth, but also its rotation in its orbit space.

Let’s see if we can break it down even more:
It is said that the earths ‘wobbling’ (and more) are following a cycle of around 25,765 years (others say 25,920 years), said in other words, it takes the equinox around 25,765 years to complete its cycle, also known as the ‘time-length’ of the Astrological age. The Danish Book ‘Astrological handbook’ by the great Danish author Paul Mahler Dam, explains this in a much easier way, which I here will show in short. The number 25,920 are much easier to work with, to make the point a little bit clearer.
An Astronomical age is the total of approximately 25,920 years, and in this time period each Zodiac’ sign enters through it. Dividing 25,920 years with 12 gives = 2,160 years. So one Zodiac signs ‘age- length’ is set at around 2,160 years. This means that the Age of Aquarius is around 2,160 years, and so are the other ages.
This theory fits pretty well to the fact of Jesus birth and the Egyptian symbols of the Bull/Apis and the Ram/A form of Amun (Amon – Lord of the two horns).

From the Danish ‘Astrological handbook’
Pisces Astrological year – 25.599 B.C
Aquarius Astrological year – 23.439 B.C
Capricorns Astrological year – 21.279 B.C
Sagittarius’ Astrological year – 19.119 B.C
Scorpions Astrological year – 16.959 B.C
Libra’s Astrological year – 14.799 B.C
Virgo’s Astrological year – 12.639 B.C

Leo’s Astrological year – 10.479 B.C
Some of my thoughts: (Some believe that the Sphinx might date back to around 10.500 B.C. They base the idea upon the cracks in the Sphinx ((probably more before it was restored in our modern days)), the cracks are evidence for a high rain period ((rain erosion)). Other fact in history might even be of further evidence for this. Because there was ((and still can come every 500 years or more)) a rain flood like no one has seen before. If the Nile in the meantime also rose because of the forces of the Sea, then you would have something like a Flood. Not only that, in older record books they speak about an inland island in North Africa, so the possibilities are indeed there).

Cancer’s Astrological year – 8.319 B.C
Gemini’s Astrological year – 6.159 B.C
Taurus’ Astrological year – 3.999 B.C
Aries’ Astrological year – 1.839 B.C
Pisces’ Astrological year – 321 A.D
Aquarius Astrological year – 2.481 A.D

Native American myth:
‘The White Buffalo Woman’
Lakota, or Sioux
While I was informing myself about this astrological concept, I fell upon a Native American myth which is considered astrological in some sense, in Natures Four directions.

SHORT:
The Lakota, a Native American people, also describe that a great spiritual Teacher, called White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman, is coming with the purpose to unite the material and spiritual worlds. Their legend mentions that in a far past, possibly in the beginning of the Age of Aries, a Teacher had come to initiate them into the "Pipe Ceremony"; the same story mentions that this Teacher is returning again due to specific signs related to their tradition, among them the fact that white buffalo calves are born again.[41] From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrological_age

After four days the scouts posted to watch for the holy woman saw something coming towards them in a beautiful manner from across the prairie. Then suddenly the woman was in the great lodge, walking round it in a sunwise direction. She stopped before Standing Hollow Horn in the west of the lodge, and held her bundle before him in both hands.
‘Look on this,’ she said, ‘and always love and respect it. No one who is impure should ever touch this bundle, for it contains the sacred pipe.’
She unrolled the skin bundle and took out a pipe, and a small round stone which she put down on the ground.
Read more at http://www.livingmyths.com/Native.htm And

http://www.merceronline.com/Native/native05.htm

I am personally not sure how to view this topic, because of the mere rotations in our planet (and other planets) which keeps changing in minute ways. And another point I tend to be drawn to, is the fact that NOTHING is more powerful than the human mind! And then there are the topic of the old astrology signs, where some are not the same, others have been combined with others and so on. Further more I have found some evidence about some other constellations which I have heard No One speak of yet, so I think there is much needed before we can talk about this. The only thing we can conclude is that everything is indeed connected to the smallest of details. And then we can study the history gone by to the best of our ability, and just maybe begin to be kinder towards our own BIG race (of a billion rainbow colors – Hey, just a thought; Colors does not exist, so why can’t we all act color-blind? –In the good sense).

I have also taken other thoughts into account, to keep things as neutral as one who already has chosen, can be ;)

[NOTE: I know how there are many people that believe that it was/is a big Hoax. To this I can only say; I do not know, if or if not. I will let this be to the experts who had and have control over the projects. If everything indeed is a hoax, then mankind has punched itself in the face, which we seem to be doing more often… I can only say this; I choose to believe. In the end, everything becomes a choice, and so do I choose. I could not go on writing this, without giving the other side some credibility to their beliefs and thoughts, and I do find them interesting, others I find a bit obscure.
No matter what, the whole earth should be coming together in a total humane way, for us to survive our own needs and lusts. I am interested in so many subjects, that make me conclude pretty quickly, that we don’t stand a great chance here on earth if everyone still wants to keep their mobiles running. For example, they say if we make the fuel on the corn (harvesting the corn-productions for creating fuel for silly cars) then we have a much better chance. – Now who was the Freaking idiot that said that? Well here is the fact about “Food-Fuel” : Since many countries have begun producing this, more and more people are dying of hunger. The west is now being more of a direct impact upon other people’, hunger and more.
Because of, everything that has already happen, or rather what we always have neglected to do, so will there be a reaction, the common law of cause and affect and so on.
I would say lets get moving at least on some levels other than guns and missiles. This is the only reason that I miss Kennedy, he believed in the possibilities of all mankind.
Normally I would have deleted half of what I am writing (/Think) here, because I know how ‘of-topic’ some might think it is, but there I ask, “Is it really of-topic?”] Sorry about this, back to the topic.

MISSION PROFILE:
The mission began like all ideas begin, with the idea. Somehow these unique scientists were able to make their ideas into a reality, which no matter how one looks at it, has created so many exciting materials, which are used all over the world for many different things.
Three courage’s men were picked to execute the mission;
Neil A. Armstrong (2) - Commander
Michael Collins (2) - Command Module Pilot
Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. (2) - Lunar Module Pilot

It was the Saturn Five (the Moon Rocket) that would give way to the American Eagle (the name of the Luna module). The command module was named Columbia, these spacecrafts were together called the Apollo spacecraft.
Apollo 11 was lunched from the Kennedy Space center at 9:32 a.m. local time on July 16, 1969. Saturn Five gave such power that only 18 minutes after take off it was in orbit, only 30 minutes after entering orbit, they detached themselves from the last Saturn Five stage, to make a 180 degree turn to dock with the Luna Module.
On the 19 July the Apollo 11 went behind the Moon, and entered the lunar orbit. The next day the Lunar module (Eagle) detached from the command module so the decent could begin. Even thou they missed the landing target by miles, and alarms were blinking, they still made it safely. Probably because Mr. Armstrong and Mr. Aldrin noticed that the computer was taking them in to even more rough terrain, so he ‘helped’ (probably re-entering some data into the com’) the computer to a more proper landing site.
Apollo 11 landed on the Moons surface at 20:17 UTC on July 20 1969 with only 25 seconds of fuel left.

We learn how to walk again…

Under the contact with the comet the spacecraft collected particles with the use of a most strange material called
[Aerogel]. There was a man speaking about a new NASA project, which would be open to everyone who had an internet connection, in the world. The project would start some time after, so I noted the start-date down, and stayed tuned.
The project began a couple of months later, and I added myself as a member on the first day.
I loved it right from the start, I find it both fascinating and inspiring in its own way. But they recognized more planets than that. actually they recognized the exact same essential planets which we so often use in our modern astrology readings.

Some Basic about ancient Egyptians:
They also divided the days hours much like we still do - 24 hours a day.
RA - The Sun is the Day, and there are 12 light hours of the day.
SETH - The Moon is the night, and there are 12 night/dark hours of the day.

The Decans are the stars that are bound by the five(5) gods birthdays, and together they create the 365 days a year.

One week is made up by 10 days, making a year; 36 x 10 = 360 days;
Then the ancient celebrated 5 Gods birthdays, by giving them a day each;
which makes; 36 decans x 10 days + 5 days = 365 days a year.

The Decans

The Decans could be seen as 36 weekly stars that the ancient would take notice of. The famous Sirius is the ‘Queen of the Decans’ and she marked the beginning of a new year.

The planets were called ‘The stars that know no rest’ and referred to the five planets;
Mercury – the star of Seth/or a form of Seth.
Venus – star of the morning/ the one who crosses’ or ‘God of the morning’.
Mars – Horus the red/ Horus of the horizon.
Jupiter – Traveling star/ Horus who limits the two lands/ Horus star of the South.
Saturn – Horus the bull/ Bull of the heavens.

So clear that I could see (eyes only) the stars inside the shoulder and besides/behind Taurus Red Eye.

Aldebaran is the brightest star to be found in the constellation of Taurus, also known as the Bull’s eye. M104 also known as The Sombrero Galaxy, the name comes from its hat like look. Some people speculate that more might be going on inside this galaxy, because not only is it so bright, but it has been noticed that it also glows through X-rays, some connect this to that its center might be a black hole, but this is only speculations.

They are all the stars which never seems to move, when viewed from earth (they do move, but in such a high speed that we don’t notice the movement - only over an extension of time.
Ptolemy did not state anything in depth about the fixed stars and their importance’s, he only states that this was done by the people before them (Egyptians?)
There are many different mentioning of the fixed stars, in ancient Egypt, even upon the temple walls. The names for these subjects were just different than ours, more simple in some way, and yet more complex in their meaning.

In the old days, the Planets were referred to as the ‘Wandering stars’ but this was only in special relations. They knew which planet they were talking about, probably because of festivals and other priestly helpfulness.

In modern astrology there is a standard term called ‘a Morning star’, this refers mostly to two planets, Venus rising as a morning star and mercury rising as a morning star. In the older days, they would also take notice in if a person was born as a morning star or an evening star (and no there is no Evil components in the fact that a person is born an evening star, there are so many misunderstandings still).
But even this term is found in ancient Egypt, I personally found a wall where it speaks about a Goddess being portrayed as a morning star.

Ani’s - Book of the Dead, is yet another place where one can find the fixed stars, written.
Papyrus of Ani: Plate XIX

TRANSLATION:
His rising, Tmu-Harmachis. Each page is embedded with pictures which will clearly illustrate the ancient Egyptian thoughts about astrology. So many authors see so many different things and subjects in the ancient mysteries of this great land, and so does Karima see some subjects differently than most others. This is a perfect and deeper extension of this Blog, but it focuses much more upon the Egyptian ideas and symbolism.
This book is UNLIKE any book in the world!

She loves to explore the symbols portrayed where ever and when ever she can. Like a walk through a desert old temple, so does the ancient word bring another horizontal light into existence. As the Sun dies away so does the Moon remember each day. She wrote this book because she saw something which she could not keep inside to herself.

You will see how the ancient Egyptians and the old Greeks wrote the name of Sirius and Orion. She also explains what Anubis really might mean, and she found clear evidence that Anubis is Not a Death God, which is a sad misinterpretation, just like the character Imhotep in the movie ‘The Mummy.’
One thing is for curtain, after you have read this book, you will have a much deeper insight into the Egyptian astrological mindset. But she takes you even further, both through documented history and time itself. This book covers the topics which other books always seem to allude to, but never deliver on. Karima alludes to nothing, she gives you the real actually hieroglyphics, which are still portrayed upon the ancient walls. This is not a book based solely upon theories which can seem rather obscure, but it is in fact based upon real fact which scholars of different topics each have agreed upon.

Karima have written the book in such a manner, that many readers might gain from it. She foremost adores Egyptologists work, and it is because of them that people are able to continue their studies into the ancient Egyptians culture. Karima has tried to keep from making too huge theories which scholars and professors cannot comment openly upon, because of their status. She has written the book in such a language that everyone should easily be able to read the book. People with no further knowledge about ancient Egypt, gain something much deeper if they were to start with this book, and it would not interfere with what the teachers are teaching. But the angle of the book is very new, and everything is linked up in such a detailed manner, that one understands easily.

The Books Content Page:
ISBN 87-991527-9-7

Chapter one – The Secret of Anubis
Chapter two – Hieroglyphs, a short explanation
Chapter three – Duamutef / Tuamutef, The Heavenly brother of Anubis
Chapter four – From Egypt to Macedonian and the Greeks
Chapter five – The Winter Triangle, The Three that Becomes One
Chapter six – Sah and Septit, Wife and Husband
Chapter seven – Orion and Sirius Everlasting
Chapter eight – The 7 Divine Beings, The Guardians of Souls, and Life
Chapter nine - Conclusion
Chapter ten - Notes

The Secret of Anubis is truly a secret revealed. A book filled with pictures from both Karima’s private archive but also knowledge about other great scholars work, and where to find their work. This is truly a book of tribute to the people which came before, and a new insight for the modern mind. Everything you would ever need in one book, to get you started with the understanding of the Egyptian astrology. There are images of the Dendera Zodiac circle, but also an illustration of the astrological diagram on Senemut’s tomb ceiling, and much more.

Be one of the very first to own a copy of this Unique Book;
There are only a few copies on sale right now, and they will be sold through
Karima’s EBay Store

READ THE REVIEWS

The two fishes are connected by a fine silver line, and this connection symbolizes the Earth, where both the material and the spiritual meet.
The Christian area was launched through the symbol of the Pisces, which was a representation for Jesus’ teachings about mercy and to be a true servant of love (in those days).
Actually in the year 7 B.C (the same year that Jesus Christ is supposed to have been born in – Wonder then why year 0 comes seven years after, if we placed this time-recording upon Jesus’ life?.. hmm…) But anyway in the 7 B.C something special accrued,
a 3 double conjunction took place in the zodiac sign of Pisces. The planet Jupiter (the most important planet, THE HIDDEN ONE!) came very close to the planet Saturn (when two planets are at their closets, its called a ‘Conjunction’). But in the year 7 BC, not only one conjunction took place, but three conjunctions – a very special event!
If I understand things correctly, then it was Jupiter that the three wise men followed (They were actually three old kings of three older kingdoms).

[But we MUST remember who we really are, the ego of man treads in the footsteps of ancient old Lucifer, so Must we remember what we all have done, so we can do right by our past. Only through ‘will and love’ will the GOOD things rise again – the question is, do you want it?]

It is illogical to presume Pisces to be a symbol for the Christian’s. The Christians rather come about in the period of around 7 BC with the study of the three conjunctions and so on.

The Greeks version of Pisces came hundred of years before the Christian’s ideas, and thoughts.
Pisces are Aphrodite and Eros, whom leaped into one of the Euphrates Rivers and turned themselves into the fishes Pisces. They hereby avoided the wrath of Typhoon the giant monster – the son of Gaia.

But if we look at the first generations Ptolemy’s, and the ones coming after, we see that their illustrations of Pisces are a little bit different.
[Look for the ancient Egyptian zodiac Circle which can be found at the Louvre Museum in France.]

On this illustration of Pisces, we clearly see something between the two fishes that make up Pisces. [A box with the hieroglyphic of water, inside it.] Ptolemy’s writings, especially the first generations manuscripts which were collected in the Library of Alexandria, were probably burned, (or disappeared) in the first fires.
But we can look at the things already found.
If you are interested in Egyptian history, then you probably already know this;
We do find a very important fish in the ancient Egyptian history, referred to as the Nile fish. Its story in itself can sound odd.
The Nile Fish is yet another creation myth, of its own kind.
[It is like we find a creation myth of some sort in each zodiac sign, this would also correspond to the ‘belief’ that Pisces should be the last Zodiac sign – the end of an ear.
But this ‘belief’ would/ or could only be 100% correct, if everything is known and correct, which we know it isn’t.
But apparently we keep forgetting who we all really are, we are in short terms “Creators” – For we create by the mere vision of a dream that our hands then can make into a reality. We create everything by the mere force of our will.
And I believe that this is what the ancient tried to teach their children to come – That we create our reality, and we create the next level (said in very short terms).

The 13 Zodiac sign does exist, by the mere mentioning of it, a thought has accrued, and its creation begins.
And we do have the possibility to make the next ear /sign idyllic, the question to this becomes, do we each see these possibilities?

The ancient Egyptian praised the Nile as the Core of Egypt itself, a running flood which came and went by itself – I am here referring to the flood periods of the Nile).

At some point this constellation was identified as Zeus, who is letting life’s water flow to the earth.

Ganymedes;
Aquarius is also said to represent the character called ‘Ganymedes’.
Ganymedes was cursed with the most beautiful look upon earth, so beautiful that even the gods and goddess took notice of his beauty. They were so taken by him, that they all wanted him, even Zeus. Zeus did not trust any other god, so he would do it himself. Zeus disguised himself as an eagle and flew down to earth, where he grabbed Ganymedes with his claws, and took him back to the Olympian. Ganymedes parents were so sadden, that Zeus could hear their grief every night. He sent Hermes down to the parents, to give them a unique gift; Hermes gave them a wine stock made of gold which was created by Hefaistos. But this did not ease their grief for their beloved son. So Zeus made his abduction of Genymedes’ immortal by placing Genymedes and the Eagle among the other stars, so that his parents could see him every night.

Deukalion;
Yet another myth is said to be connected to Aquarius.
The name Aquarius should give a clue as to what his further attributes were. He was the Greek ’Noah’, but his name was Deukalion.
Just like the flood which is known from the Bible, so did this flood come because of mankind and their neglect towards humanity. Zeus is angered by humans, their behaviors are inhumane. But he also saw Deukalion and his female companion Pyrrha, who lived their lives in peace and harmony. More important their behaviors were just and fair which was a display of humanity. Zeus commanded Deukalion to build a giant boat, which would take the two away from his floods. Zeus would then let the water from the skies flow to the earth, and the only two ‘Just’ was allowed to live on.

UPDATE DECEMBER 2007

There is more to Aquarius’ symbol, than meets the eye. The two waves which make up the symbol, has since ancient time represented the two snakes of Wisdom, you find these two snakes wrapped around a stick, in the medical industry.
If you ever visit Egypt, then this symbol will be the most obvious to see upon the ancient walls.

It is the element of Air and Water, the air belongs to the intuitive higher intelligence, which is the upper wave of the Aquarius symbol.
Actually even in our modernized society, we find a connection to this symbol, and it is found in each beliefs system, the use of water, to purify or cleanse.

In Aquarius we find communication without borders.

But since ancient days, this creature was like Sagittarius, in that it was combined by two animals.

Capricornus legends and myths are to be found among the myths of the Sheppard (nature God) Pan.
Actually Pan is really an Akkadian God, which the ancient Greeks and Romans took as their own.

Pan is a very famous character from ancient days, poets and authors gave him many attributes, even some as cruel as being the Devil himself (This is the perception which the old popes chose to teach people...)
There are various versions, as to how Pan changes into the constellation of Capricorn. The fascination of Pan is most intriguing because of his mean and yet very playful nature. He is a teaser of nature and yet a son of the great Zeus. He had the total embodiment of a real human, because of his Lust and his inner duality.

Pan is watching out over his Kingdom

The great Pan is also known under other names like, Aix, Aigipan and Amaltheia.

THE BATTLE BETWEEN TYPHOON AND ZEUS:

Zeus in battle with Typhoon.
Zeus darting his lightning at Typhoon, Chalcidian black-figured hydria, ca. 550 BC, Staatliche Antikensammlungen (Inv. 596)

The story between Zeus and Typhoon seem rather important, yet finding much about this story, is another thing…
Typhoon was the son of Gaia, and he was a sort of revenge upon the new gods. His head reached and touched the stars, and his arms were as long that they reached around the earth. Hundred of snakes grew out of his upper body, and their screams were like a thousand animals gathered together in one scream. Not only that, he also had a thousand wings. Gaia had made Typhoon the greatest among her Earthly children. He went into war as soon as he was born. Zeus was off course sent forth to battle this huge creature. Zeus gathered the lightning and shoots them towards Typhoon, he was forced to his knees. Typhoon saw his chance to take Zeus’ power, which he supposedly hid (The power was located in the knees, or so one story states). Pan and Hermes are sent out to retrieve Zeus’ power, which they also did, but this turned Typhoon’s anger towards them, and they were forced to flee. They ran down to Egypt where they changed their forms so that Typhoon couldn’t find them, Pan changed his lower body to a Fish tail, and swum away in the Nile. Zeus showed Pan his appreciation by placing him among the heavens as the Capricorn.

Picatrix MSS states:
”And there ascends in the first face of Capricorn holding a pipe in his right hand but a hoe in his left hand. And this is a face of happiness, joy, and the scattering of tasks and laziness with weakness and unceasing evils. And this is its form”

“And there ascends in the second face of Capricorn a man having before him half of a monkey. And this is a face of seeking matters which can in no way be, nor does anything prevail to touch upon these matters. And this is its form.”

Ptolemy states:
“In the first face there ascends the middle of the body of the small Bear and its neck, and the end of the body of the falling Eagle.”

If I understand the ancient correct then these two creatures are opposites of each other. Some say that Sagittarius is a representation of Chiron the wise healer, he was also a Centaurs but with a different nature. The centaurs were of a rather harsh nature, drinking, and they loved to fight. I personally don’t see the character Chiron in Sagittarius.

Let us see what the Picatrix (MSS) says about the 3 faces of Sagittarius.
[The expression of 3 Faces, could also be called the 3 lots. Inside each zodiac sign is a division of three, which makes up the 3 faces inside Sagittarius (or the other signs).]
Picatrix MSS.:
“And there ascends in the first face of Sagittarius three bodies of men of which one is yellow, another white but the third red. And this is a face of heat, weight, of fructifying in fields and on the lands, of sustaining and dividing. And this is its form”
“And there ascends in the second face of Sagittarius a man who leads cows, and holding (or having) a Monkey and a bear before him. And this is a face of fear, lamentation, mourning, misery, and inquietude. And this is its form.”

According to Ptolemy;
In the first face there ascends the neck of the small bear, the end of the tail of the Dragon, and the posterior of the Walking on His Knees, and his nape and his head, and the end of the Scorpion, and the Knotted ones in the tail [of the Scorpion], and the body of Censer.

It could be that Sagittarius is symbolized as a Centaurs creature, because of the many natures that are combined in one.

Babylonia;
Even the ancient Babylonians had the symbol of Sagittarius, and even here we find it place close to a Scorpion. Some authors argue that the Babylonians are the people that invented the modern day Zodiac circle. I can agree to some point on this suspicion, but I fell that they just gave name to areas which already were in used, just called by other names. Maybe the Babylonians just simplified some thoughts? But in simplifying these thoughts a lot is lost... who knows…

Sagittarius from Babylonian time period
around 2300 B.C.

The ancient Sumerian astrologer/astronomer was like the ancient Egyptian and believed in the spirits of life (their thoughts did not only divide situations up into Good and Evil). They would say all things that move, possessed the term of ‘self-power’ and herby was ‘life/living/alive’. The oceans and rivers are the most visible ‘Living beings’, in that they are ‘self-powered’ – in a constant motion/and movement.
Another book dating from 1886 which goes under the name of ‘Chaldea’, I find this book very useful when it comes to this part;
CHALDEA:
This was the society that took over the Babylonian people, these people were called ‘the Kaldu people’ and they were of Semitic descent. The 6th century BC (600 BC) is in history known as the Chaldean Dynasty.
The ancient religion of the Semitic races/tribes and most other people (just look at the Dogon tribe in Africa), central around the worship of the heavenly bodies, that was called ‘Sabeism’ for the Semitic tribes. The Chaledeo-Babylonian was many cultures mixed together, but they were influenced by someone coming from the outside…
When the ancient studied the stars movement, and combinations, they saw that they also followed a ‘Law’. A planet never rotated in a square path, but rather followed the circler path. So even the high and mighty planets, and stars were bound by some sort of ‘Law’.
This made the ancient believe in a Universal Lord, that is much greater than Anything, and much much greater than any earthly subject – the Lord of ALL. The ancient universal Lord was even among the stars – probably meaning the dark blue abyss, which an astronaut travels in/or among to reach a Planet/star. They believed that when we died (a non-existing word in those days), that when we left our earthly bodies, then we would travel in boats in this ocean blue abyss – today referred to as space. This is what happens after the judgment and the transformation have happened (or so ancient text say).
We are greeted by the Ferry Man…

Sagittarius from Ptolemy's Time Period
from around 370 B.C.

I personally think that Scorpio and Libra and Virgo cannot be described as directly as the other constellations, the three constellations are bound together (which all constellations are, but with these three signs we see it in the modern Zodiac circle).
We have a (once) famous story about a Scorpion, which I think fits this constellation pretty well – One must not directly combine this story to the constellation of Scorpion, because that would be, a too judgmental statement for any given Zodiac sign. But the story gives the basic idea, as to this animal’s nature:
(This is a kind of saying here in Denmark. I’ve asked my Danish family what definition the Danish language uses for such a story. Because some are sayings others are philosophies and so on. I was told that it was a pretty good question, but no one had the answer)
I would call this story a form of ‘saying’, but I am not sure:
A Scorpion stands by a river shore, needing to get over to the other side of the river. But the Scorpion knows that he was unable to swim over. The Scorpion noticed a Turtle further up the river shore, so he went over to the Turtle. The Scorpion kindly asked; ’Dear Mr. Turtle can you please take me upon your back, and take me to the other side? The Turtle looked intensely at the Scorpion and replied; ”If I take you upon my back, then you will surely sting me with your poisons tail.” The Scorpion quickly said; ’No Dear Mr. Turtle, I really need to go across to the other side. And if I sting you with my tail, then I would drown too. So no Dear Mr. Turtle I will not sting you.’ The Turtle thought about what the Scorpion had said, and decided that the Scorpion made sense. The Scorpion crawled up on the Turtle’s back, and the Turtle began the journey towards the other side of the river. When they were almost over, the Scorpion suddenly stung the Turtle and the Turtle screamed ‘Why did you sting me, when you promised me otherwise, now we will both die’ and the Scorpion replied ‘Sorry Mr. Turtle but this is my nature’.

A very sad but telling story about the Scorpion’s nature, again you must not make a direct parallel to every person with the Scorpion sign. There is much more than one constellation to one individual.

Antares which is a star at the heart of Scorpio, this star was also known to the ancient Persian people as Satevis. Around 300 BC (it is the Sumerians that date to 3000BC, sorry about that) years before the famous birth of Christ, the Persian was a Great culture with many ideas. In those days the Persian astrologer would watch towards a group which he called ‘The four Royal stars or Guardians of the sky’. They would look towards four points in the deep heavens, which are the same points as on Earth; North, East, West, and South. These Royal stars showed the changes upon Earth, in the changing of Winter, Summer, Spring, Fall.

The Ancient Persian's already used the Astrolab, which is an old device for astronomy. This one is made by an Unknown person.
Located at Whipple Museum of the History of Science in Cambridge

In the Greek mythology, the Scorpion was the animal that killed Orion. And it was the goddess Artemis that asked Zeus to place them among the heavens, which he then did.
- But here I again disagree a little bit, in that Artemis was like Zeus an Olympian god, and hereby able to place them among the heavens, herself.

EGYPT:
Like I stated before, the ancient Egyptian also had an Scorpion Goddess, who was called Serket/Serqet, like Duamutef, she was mostly mentioned in the Coffin text and in the Tombs (so fare that I am aware of). Scorpion is a Water sign, and if you read my other blog which is called ‘the history of Tarot’. Here I mentioned that in a tarot deck the card called Death is attributed to the Scorpion zodiac sign. This does NOT mean that people born under Scorpion is attributed with the same trends. But I think any Scorpion person would have to agree in that if they are caught up in a corner and know with themselves that they can’t get out of, then they will Sting either what is confronting them or them selves. A Scorpion person has a lot inside to give, but can probably be very afraid to give it, because of the elements which it knows it cannot control. The Scorpion symbol also contains the tail of Scorpio, to illustrate its fears power. But no matter what, Scorpion is attributed to Death.
On the other side of Libra we have the Beautiful virgin Virgo, like I said in the clip, it is so opposites from Scorpio. There is more order and balance to be found in the constellation of Virgo than in Scorpion.
Inside Virgo we have the planet called ‘Spica’, and in the constellation of Scorpio we find the planet ‘Antares’. These two planets again seem divided by the existence of Libra. The element of Earth is attributed to Virgo and the element of Air is attributed to Libra.

I was looking through some books (both old and new ones) to see, if there was anything that could ‘bring more proof’ to my theory (or idea), and to my surprise, everything I picked up, was in connection to this and was a bit surprising.

*********

The great book ‘The beginning of Wisdom’ is written by the great Meira B. Epstein.
This is a book that contains much knowledge from the Middle Ages, about Arabic and Hebrew astrology.
The Picatrix (or Ġāyat al-Ḥakīm [fī l-siḥr] "The Goal of the Sage [in sorcery]") is a manuscript dating to around the 1200 AD, its origins are uncertain. But one thing is sure about this manuscript, it is about the Arabic and non-European. When I look upon these manuscripts and plates, then I clearly see that they are also embedded with the symbols from the reign of King Solomon.
This will give us yet another informational source for the constellation called Virgo.
Picatrix: “And there ascends in the first face of Virgo a beautiful girl covered over with a woolen sheet and holding in her hand a pomegranate*. And this is a face of sowing, of plowing, of the making of trees to sprout, of gathering bunches of grapes and of the good life. And this it its form.”

*pomegranate(A fruit that is Very Well known in Morocco, I Love it
Etymology:
The name “pomegranate” is of ancient origin. In classical Latin, the fruit was known either as malum punicum or malum granatum. In these names, malum means “apple”, granatum derives from granum “grain” and means “(multi)grained” (alluding to the many seed grains). The adjective punicus properly refers to Phoenicia in Asia Minor, but was in Latin more frequently used with respect to Carthage, a Phoenician colony in Northern Africa (also Rome’s only source of Silphion); the Romans suspected pomegranate to be of African origin. The botanical genus name Punica is the feminine form of that adjective, as is appropriate for a fruit-bearing tree.
Origin:
Central Asia, probably Persia. Now cultivated in Western and Central Asia, Mediterranean countries and Northern India.
Pomegranate is a very popular fruit all over the Middle East. Though it can’t be proven definitely, the fruit of the “Tree of Knowledge” mentioned in the biblical history of creation most probably was meant to be a pomegranate — though most Westerners would hardly believe it, it’s nowhere said to be an apple! There is also a parallel in Greek mythology, where the earth goddess Demeter [Δημήτηρ] lost her daughter Persephone [Περσεφόνη] to the underworld god Hades [ᾍδης] because of one single pomegranate grain the daughter had accepted.
http://www.uni-graz.at/~katzer/engl/Puni_gra.html

*********

This is the Papyrus of Anhai who lived around 1100 B.C.
She was a member of a college of Amun-Re at Thebes (Luxor).

[This was in the period that is called the 19 Dynasty. In the period of 1133 – 1126 B.C both Ramesses VII and Ramesses VIII were pharaohs and after them came Ramesses IX (1126 – 1108 B.C). The beautiful Priestess Anhai lived in a time of turmoil, much like many live in today (with the worlds so-called government actions, so did she live in such a turmoil).]

A – Is called Ammut, she was a mythological creature, who was one third crocodile, one third Lion, and one third Hippopotamus. Her name literary means ‘Female devourer of the dead’, she is also called ‘Great of Death’ (which corresponds pretty much to the meaning which has been attributed to the constellation of Scorpion.) These gods and goddess were not worshipped in the normal sense, and there were no temples dedicated to them.
It is said that it is Anubis that is weighing the Heart of the Dead, but I actually believe this character is a god called Duamutef(he is personally very important to me.),one of the seven sons of Horus (sometimes Osiris sons too). I identify this character to be Duamtef because of his clothing and his blue hair dress, which indicate to be that this is the Heavenly sons of Horus (or Osiris). Anubis is more shown as the Dog (Jackal) lying down, mostly upon a shine. Upon this Papyrus scroll Duamutef (Anubis) is in himself the scales, in that both of his hands connect to the heart of Anhai. The feather is a direct symbol of the goddess of Truth which is Maat (Matt), she is also that little character located on the other side of the heart, which is being weighed, the person’s heart is weighed against truth, to be a form of account for a person, weighing sins against goodness. The Baboon placed upon the scales is another form of the recorder Thoth, but in his more primal form. Again every inch of this papyrus is embedded with balance and harmony in every sense of the word. Just look at the colors, the light Green and Blue are balanced too.
I don’t want to get too much into this papyrus scroll, because there is no need for that in this post. I just wanted to show some connections to the heavens. There is also Scorpion goddess in ancient Egypt, and one of them is to be found on the Coffin itself, I haven’t found it in the Papyrus scrolls. I feel like the texts on the coffins are different than those of the tomb walls, and these are even more different from the temple writings, there is probably a very deep system to all of this. I will ad something about the coffin texts after this part.
Back to our Ancient Anhai, and her scrolls.
We need to look at more papyrus scrolls to see what my idea was about. It should be understood that the ancient Egyptians image of heaven was a Garden of beauty. ‘Sekhet-Hetepet’ the field of Peace, where the deceased could tend to his life, once more in another lifetime (some might disagree with me here, and state, that they did believe in ‘death’, but I personally would say these people do not really understand the ancient thought. For the ancient the soul was the Essen’s of our being, and it was ‘Everlasting’.
The Papyrus scroll below is also from Anhai’s tomb, and it depicts her afterlife as they saw it.

Remember what the Picatrix told us about Virgo,
fits this image pretty well.

Now here Come’s the Translation of some ancient Egyptian texts, which might even surprise you:

This is one of the Spells (chants) which are in some ‘Chapters of Transformations’ (in the book of the dead, it clearly tells us that there are many Transformations points before moving on):

I am the Swallow. I am the Swallow. I am the Scorpion, the daughter of the Sun. Oh Gods! Delicious is the smell of your fire which comes out of the horizon. Oh thou who art in the place! Guardian of the corner, lead me. Give me thy arm. I keep a watch in the pool of Fire. I come by my efforts. I have come, having the writing. I open; what do I say I have seen? It is Horus steering the bark*, giving place to his father. It is Seth, the son of Nu, undoing all he has done. I have examined that which is in the sealed place. I have laid my arm on Osiris. I go by my efforts. I have come speaking. Let me open the writing. I am the reckoning which goes in and the account which goes out of the Gate of the Universal Lord. I am washed on my leg. Oh Great One! I have dissipated my sins. I have destroyed my failings, for I have got rid of the sins which detained me on Earth. Oh DoorKeepers! I have made roads. It is then I am like you. I have come out of the day. I have walked on my feet, I prevail with my steps. I have known the secret roads in the Gates of the fields of the Aahlu. Let me overthrow my oppressors. On Earth my body is embalmed.
Actually I wanted to see if I could find out more about this Spell (Chant), and again to my surprise this was pretty easy. In the book of the Dead of Ani’s (more than 1000 years older that of Anhain’s papyrus 1100 B.C), I found a manuscript translation referred to as ‘PLATE XXV’ and here is gives us;
This Chant/spell belongs to the very beginning of the chapter of making transformations.

So to be even more precise, we arrive at the halls of the double maat (Matt) ‘The halls of the double truth’ (Balance/Scales), and then we begin the judgment, at some point the transformation begins, and it starts out with speaking about a scorpion. We seek the Fields of peace, which was illustrated through the ‘Demeter imagery’.

UPDATED 4 April 2008
The King James Bible - The Book of Job;
6:1 But Job answered and said,
6:2 Oh that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!
6:3 For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

*********

Muhammed - The prophet of A'
He is the founder of Islam,
and on this image he is being carried by an animal called Al-Burak.
This scene portrays his heavenly journey.

The Greek god of the Underworld Hades,
is here sitting on his throne in his palace in the underworld

He was truly one of the Last Romans to respect the ancient Greeks, and in his works his appreciation is to be found for the Greeks.
The Danish author Sigvard Mahler Dam brings light upon one of Marcus Manilius’ poems, which is attributed to the constellation of Libra:

“When springtime begins to raise, blessed is he, who is born under Libras balance. As judge he shall weigh the burdens of life and death; He will order the scales of his authority upon the world and make law. Cities and kingdoms will tremble before him, and be guided by his commandments alone, while after his stay upon earth, judgment in the heavens awaits for himself.”
this was in relation to Augustus birth (22/9 62 B.C) The first part of Libra occupied his horoscope.

*******

Some believe Libra to be the Chariot of the Rich one (another name for the underworld god Hades, whose name was rarely spoken, because of the fear of him). He is supposed to have had a Golden chariot that was pulled by four pinch black horses he used this chariot to visit the upper-world (so the chariot is his tool for traveling among these two worlds.)

I also found this story in a book from 1888, actually it is two stories, and they contain more information about other constellations too. But the names have changed, but this is the story which portrays The Rich one’s (Hades) nature and trips.
- Again it is believed that Libra represents the Golden Chariot of Hades, again an object.

Abduction of Hippodamia,
painting by Peter Paul Rubens 1637-1638

The first Story is entitled
“Theseus and Peirithoos” (Pirithous)

Of all the heroes that Theseus drew out into the world with, no one was dearer to him than Peirithoos. They were near and dear friends, that is why loyal friends in the old days would say „They love each other as much as Theseus and Peirithoos”

Peirithoos was the King of Lapiths in Thessaly, when he married Hippodamia (Tamer of horses), many others were gathered, and even the fairest Centaurs were guests at their wedding. ‘The famous Battle of Lapiths and Centaurs’ occurred, because the Centaurs had a deep love for vine. One of the Centaurs became too drunk at the wedding meal and kidnapped Peirithoos’ wife. This off course caused the Wedding celebrations to become a battle ground, where Theseus and Perithoos Truly showed the Centaurs that they were indeed great heroes, many came to fall in this battle. Peirithoos’ wife died a short time after, and Perithoos life went on.

Later on Peirithoos heard rumors about the beautiful Helena, who he then wanted to marry. But the Helena is said to have been too young at this time (some say that she was only 13 years old when Peirithoos wanted to marry her). Helena’s father refused Peirithoos request, so Peirithoos kidnapped Helena with the help of his friend Theseus. But Helena had two brothers, the Twins called Castor and Pollux (the constellation called The Twins). They were even braver and considered stronger than Theseus and Peirithoos, they were called Zeus’ sons also known as the Dioscuri (dios kouroi), meaning the "youths of Zeus". They began the hunt to retrieve their Dear sister Helena, which they successfully did, but their joy did not last for long.
Personal Note:
I just wanted to mention that Under the Aries-post; you can read more about this story, which speaks about more than one constellation, and how they play a part in the rescue of Helena (Helle). In this post you are also told how come their joy didn’t last long.
---
The book dating from 1888 goes on, telling us that a short time after the twins had found Helena, Castor was mortally wounded in battle and was about to die. His brother Pollux filled with grief prayed to the Gods, and asked if he could share half of his brother’s fate. When Zeus heard his son’s prayer, he grated that for six month of the year they should live in the underworld, but the other six months they should live in the heavens. In the heavens they stand to help humans, and when ever there is a storm, the sailors would pray to the Dioscuri. If there then appeared two small flames upon the mast, then it was said that the twins (Gemini) was there to help.

The second Story is entitled
“Theseus’s death”

[This is the story which is believed to contain the constellation of Libra, in the scenes that it is the tool for Hades to travel between the underworld and the upper world.]
This is also from the book dating from 1888;
Peirithoos had not lost his courage because of the unfortunate outcome with Helena’s Kidnapping, actually the opposites happen, and he got the foolish idea of kidnapping the beautiful wife of the fearful Hades. Hades wife was the fair Persephone. Again he would have the help pf his loyal friend Theseus.
But soon after they had reached the underworld, Hades was aware of their presences. Hades caught them and welded them to a rock, where they were to spend the rest of their sad days. But later on Hercules had to go to the underworld, and recognized the twins, he felt pity for them and asked Hades to let them go. Hades was much too angry to let them go, but he agreed to let one of them go, which he chose to be Theseus. But Peirithoos had to spend the rest of his days welded to the rock in the underworld, because of his deed.
- The Book from 1888, goes into another story at this point, it is as entangled as the mythology in itself.
But other authors believe that Demeter who was Persephone’s mother had become so distort by her daughters kidnapping. Hades had kidnapped Persephone from her family in the upper world, and Zeus had accepted it. Demeter, who was the mother of all corn and reproduction of the land, became so sad that it in turn affected the nature. People began to starve because of the lack of corn, and bread, leaving the land in a drought. Zeus quickly realizes that this could not go on, or the new world would end. Zeus argues for his wife’s daughter, Zeus proposes a deal; if Persephone divides her time between the upper world and the underworld. In that for Four months she must stay in the underworld with Hades, and the rest of the year she would be free to visit her Mother (This must also mean that Persephone is allowed to use the Golden Chariot of Hades, which in our case was said to be the constellation of Libra, the only thing to travel between the worlds). Hades agrees to Zeus’s offer, and Demeter is satisfied, and nature returns to its normal state.

This is supposed to be the reason as to why the world would retrieve into winter (This is what some authors think, but I do not agree on this point, because of Dike and her sisters.)

END of Update
*******

The only constellation in our modern Zodiac circle that is an object, which has no human attributes. The Scales is the object of fairness, most often used as an object of “Just”.
The constellation of Libra has always been known as the Scales, even as fare back as in ancient Egypt. But at the same time, it is also recognized as being a part of Scorpions constellation.
The names of the stars that are located inside Libra are Alpha- Zuben El Genubi which is the Arabic words for ‘The Southern Claw’ and Beta- Zuben Eschamali, which is the Arabic words for ‘The Northern Claw’, this directly indicate that Libra is also a part of Scorpions constellation.
- No wonder people might be confused by our constellations.
But let me give you my personal theory, about this constellation.

Demeter

Remember from the earlier post about Virgo, that I mentioned that authors thought she might be both Dike and Demeter? I spoke shortly about Demeter being the constellation Virgo especially when the maps depict Virgo with the Corn in her hand. And when Virgo was depicted with the scales in her hand, she was a representation of Dike (Justice).
Dike and Demeter should not only be seen as ‘fairy’ like ladies, because they have two personalities, which most ancient gods have (again the Balancing theme). Dike and Demeter could be as cruel as they could be nice.
The Scales/Libra is located in the Scorpions claw, which is of a rather harsh nature. Another thing worth mentioning and noticing is that on one side we have the fearsome Scorpion, and on the other side we have the beautiful Virgin Virgo. Two Very opposites natures, yet they are bound together by Libras balancing nature.
Libra will always be partly affected by the constellations around it. The harsh nature of Libra belongs to the constellation of Virgo when she is depicted as Dike. Old Greek sailors would pray to her, when they reached shore.
Some authors believe that Libra might be attributed with the goddess called Themis, which is probably the most proper presentation of Libra. Themis, the mother to the three Horae’s Dike, Eirene and Eunomia. The Horae’s are said to be a second generation, which in turn tell us that Themis is the first generation. Themis means; the goddess of law and order; the patroness of existing rights.
Themis was one of the twelfth Titans, which where the children of Uranos and Gaia.
The goddess attributed to Libra, seems even harder to pin point than Virgo was.
Libra is called the youngest sign of our modern Zodiac circle this is probably because some believe that it did not exist before, only as part of the Scorpions constellation.
I personally believe that the Libra constellation – The Scales also was identified by itself in ancient days.
Different authors have different opinions as to what legends belong to the constellation of Libra.
Libra's legends are to be found among All the legends and myths.
Themis was a Titan who lived and died by an undeniable order, from a much older world. She is the true order which IS NEEDED for a society to exist, or to say it with a better word – Coexist.
She was the mother of Dike and because she came before, she was seen as a much greater oracle at Delphi than Dike – Again Dike being the second generation of the Titans blood. Homer wrote that Themis’ position among the Olympian gods by telling us that she opened for gatherings among the gods.

EGYPT:
I personally place the great Goddess Matt as being attributed to the constellation of Libra/ The scales.

Normally Matt is illustrated as a goddess, but sometimes she is shown in a more direct manner, such as we find in the judgment scenes (Some of them). As this papyrus of ANI above shows, then you will see the feather (symbol of Matt) above the Scales. This does not mean that this is a direct depiction of the constellation Libra, or has anything to do with this constellation directly. This was only to illustrate that they indeed used this symbol of the scales, and its meaning, And most often in their tombs (or with other word; place of passing’s).

Yet another fascinating constellation which people has forgotten the details about.
Let’s firstly look at what science tells us about this constellation. Inside the Virgo constellation is a cluster of galaxies, these are also the closets to our own Milky Way galaxy system.

Galaxy:
A Galaxy is a massive system of stars that are bound together. A galaxy such as the Milky Way contains our Moon and the Sun, and the inner and outer planets, not only that it also contains asteroids and uncountable stars besides this. To be humanly honest, then the word ‘galaxy’ is as unknown to us, as the universe in itself.
June 26 1730 a man named Charles Messier was born. He lived in France and he was the 10th of 12 children (interesting number of children considering his later adventures). In 1774 at the age of around 40 years, he published a catalogue of deep heavenly objects, which he had observed through his primitive telescope. Today we refer to this list as the List of Messier objects – This list contains many of the galaxies found in the various constellations, and not only Virgo.

Virgo contains more than 13.000 galaxies,
which are quit interesting in them selves.

This is a video clip that I made last night (18 July)
to illustrate some things more visualy
The red circle shows us just one of the galaxies that are located
inside the Virgo constellation.
M104 also known as The Sombrero Galaxy, the name comes from its hat like look. Some people speculate that more might be going on inside this galaxy, because not only is it so bright, but it has been noticed that it also glows through X-rays, some connect this to that its center might be a black hole, but this is only speculations
