Cheaphammer Flamers of Tzeentch

In previous editions, most of the strategies I’ve seen for Daemons lists involved “how do you fit as many flamers as humanly possible?” (Fantasy AND 40k are guilty) I’ve yet to do much with the new books (or even see the fantasy one) but that may change due to the new warpflame rule (risking handing out a stacking FnP to medium to high toughness units may not be most peoples cup of tea). However, if flamers are still something you want to field, or just want to try out, I’ve come up with a pretty easy way to make a whole bunch: quick and easy. All you need is this: Hot Glue Gun: 2.99 Extra Glue Sticks: 4.99 for 20 Wire: 3.99 for 10m (32.8 ft) a little bit of patience: priceless (all prices from Hobby Lobby) Step one has been covered in the previous image, cut relative lengths of wire for the flamer, one for it’s body, and a few shorter ones… however many arms you wish it to have Step two: layer up the hot glue along the wire, allowing it to cool (this is where the patience comes in… it doesn’t take too terribly long, but [...]

Skullcrusher of Tzeentch?!

I’ve been working on my Army for the Shiloh Slaughter for a couple of months now, fortunately Games Workshop through me a curve-ball by adding a new unit to the Warriors of Chaos roster – the Skullcrushers of Khorne. If you’ve been living under a rock, these are Knights riding Juggernauts. Something I think most WOC players have wanted for a very long time. Unfortunately, that meant some frantic juggling of my list and scrapping some models I’d already painted for the big day. No matter, the Skullcrushers are worth it. The rules for these heavy hitters came out last weekend in White Dwarf and after 6 games, I can say these guys are going to be in just about every list I play in the foreseeable future. I had some spare Juggernauts lying around from my conquest of eBay, so I spent the day yesterday rummaging through my bits boxes until I found suitable champions for my army. Alternate Warhammer 40k Tzeentch Model – Hell Dorado Vorenus

Now that Chaos Space Marines are back on the scene in a big way it is time to start looking for some cool models to bolster your ranks. The Vorenus from Hell Dorado makes a great Tzeentch model. You can use this guy as pretty much whatever you want – Tzeentch Herald for Daemons, Sorceror or Lord for CSM, or even as a unit upgrade for some Horrors since it has the whole beak coming out of the skin thing around the mouth. I painted this model up a while back. I tried my hand at some NMM. I was really intimidated by this technique but once I started it was actually kinda fun. I ended up being off on some of my light source angles, but the model turned out ok. The Hell Dorado line has a bunch of really neat models and is well worth checking out.

Hordes – Trollbloods Earthborn Dire Troll

Here is the latest addition to my growing Hordes Trollbloods army – the Earthborn Dire Troll. I just love this model. The sculpt is great, it took paint really well, it was fun to paint, and the rules for this guy are just amazing. He is basically a Dire Troll Mauler with a little twist – he can replace the POW of his fists with the POW of any weapon he is in melee range of. This means with a little bit of buffing you can get his P+S up to around 23 or 24. With his fury of 5 there really isn’t much that can stand up to this guy if he gets where he is going. I painted this model the same way as my Dire Troll Mauler – I airbrushed the skin working my way up from Vallejo Magic Blue -> GW Teclis Blue -> P3 Arcane Blue. The stones were done with a brush and started with Vallejo Burnt Brown -> P3 Gun Corps Brown -> P3 Hammerfall Khaki. The base was really fun on this model. THE MOUNTAIN

I’ve had a few people asking me about the display board lately, I’ve been working on it for several weeks now and it’s now just about ready to paint. The question still looms large, how the hell did I do that mountain? First, let’s talk about what went into making the board. MATERIALS ■ Magnetic Dry Erase Board: This particular board is 36×24, it’s large but it needs to be – I’m playing an MSU list and I’ve got a mountain on the back end of the board. I chose this for the base of my board because I have magnetized the movement trays in my army as well as all of the models. ■ Foam Scraps: With the baby on the way I’ve ended up with a lot of furniture and a glut of packing foam, though if you like you can certainly buy a sheet from your local hardware store. ■ Pine Bark Chips: You can get a 2 sq foot bag of these from your local hardware store for about $3. Enough to do a LOT of terrain, bases, etc. ■ Light-Weight Spackle: I used a gallon on the mountain, a bucket this size is around $20. [...]

What Has Science Done? – Retribution of Scyrah Phoenix – WIP

With the success I had with my Dire Troll I decided to try my hand at a Warjack. After looking around the gallery at the Privateer Press site I decided that I would try airbrushing a Retribution of Scyrah model. I ordered the Hydra/Manticore/Phoenix kit and started thinking about my paint scheme. I knew I wanted a nice bright color scheme, but I couldn’t decide what the base color should be. I am already doing blue on my Trollbloods so I didn’t want that, yellow is just too much of a pain, I have some white/bone Chaos Space Marines, and I just didn’t want to do red – too much like Khador. This left me with green. I started planning out a progression of greens that I was going to use and then I saw these models over at Dakka. I was hooked – this is the color scheme I was going to use. A Game of Thrones WIP- House Lannister Demigryph Knight and Greatswords

I’ve been messing around with test models for the last month or so trying to find what works best for the scheme. I decided I am going to do all my “elite” units with gold armor, while my footmen are going to be in chainmail. My dilemma was the fact that Lannisters love gold, but I didn’t want the army to look gaudy with all the armor done in gold. The second thing that I decided on through several test models was the wash. I started out using a sepia from secret weapon, then I try a home brew wash that I use on my 40k stuff, and finally landed on the P3 armor wash. I had tried this stuff when it first came out and really hated it. I basically turned my models black and ruined them. I decided to give it a second chance when I read an article about having to shake the crap out of it before use. A Game of Thrones Conversion- House Lannister counts as Empire

I wanted to share a little bit of the progress I have made on my House Lannister counts as army. I have been working on it for about 2 weeks now, and have painted up some horses and demigryphs in the red and gold scheme. However, the big highlight of this army is going to be actual game of thrones miniatures from Dark Sword Miniatures. The problem with these miniatures is that they are true scale as opposed to heroic, so they require some work. Here are the conversions I have been working on the past couple days. This is the Tywin Lannister model. I am going to be using it as my Arch Lector. It is probably my favorite model in the entire series, and required very little work. The only thing I had to do was chop off his baby arm and add a heroic scale with a sword to make it WYSIWYG. I had to chop up 2 different arms to get the sword arm, however.
