In the middle of spiritual warfare, ministry work, ministering to others, and family visiting every couple of weeks, (not to mention Timmy's birthday) our schedules are C-R-A-Z-Y!

We took the day off on Friday and went to the Sacramento Zoo! My friend Chris came too, He flew from Philadelphia for the weekend and we had a blast! (Pics coming soon)

Our local Toys for Tots campaign is getting prepared to hit hard now that November is quickly approaching.

The local recvoery ministry is keeping us very busy and our online ministries are growing.

Our family's corporation is under way and articles of incorporation have been filed. Investors are just as excited as we are and we have put it all into the hands of our Savior, Jesus Christ. There's so much more I wish I could share with you , but all in due time. Keep us in your prayers and when the countdown to launch begins I will be sure to announce it to my readers. Be sure to get subscribed so you don't miss it!

Hint: Family Friendly

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Homeschooling and Business

One of the really cool things about homeschooling is that homeschoolers have time to build their own home based businesses. Many teen homeschoolers have begun building and designing blogs, get into graphic design, sewing dresses and aprons, make jewelry etc. All of these business related ventures are educational and bring a profit. More and more homeschoolers are getting their own Etsy shops and their parents are helping with paypal accounts. It's truly an educational experience. But far more exciting, in my opinion, is when a teen homeschooler becomes an entrepreneur. Breezy and Emily Rose have not only started a business from home, I believe their business is a future for them and will bring them a large dividend and working this will be the utmost educational business experience I have seen yet. (if you know of more who have done such things let me know) ...after thought, well The Rebelution did publish a book and speak all over the country now. :P

So anyway as I was saying I think having a home based business for homeschool students is extraordinary. My own family has ventured out as well and have filed for a corporation and will be hitting the internet very soon with our own business. Jessica and I have shared a vision with my husband and a few friends and business colleagues, which really excited all of them. Had it not been for their encouragement and investment in joining us it would not have become a reality. This isn't something we just produced all on our own human thought, God placed it in our hearts and we followed Him. So encourage your teens in the area they are gifted at. Let them surrender those gifts to God and seek His direction in allowing those gifts to be something that can sustain them financially, and be used as hands on experience and education as well.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Parental Authority on the Blogs

This blog post comes with urgency and is very direct. Please do not take offense to how I chose to write this informational post. I am deeply concerned about something and it is with that deep concern and urgency that I write this. There's just no easy way to put this and it is not easy for me to write it with a soft tone.

I have received several letters via e-mail from other concerned parents and now a pastor of a church about something their girls are reading in the homeschool blogosphere. This is of great concern to me and should be to all of us. So many of us really want to see the homeschool blogosphere be safe and uplifting, but sadly there is some turmoil that is continuing. I just would like to say that as parents we should be VERY aware of what our children are reading in cyber space, even in the midst of 'conservative' homeschool blogs.

Parents, do you know which blogs your children are reading?

Have you checked the doctrine other bloggers are writing about?

Do you monitor your child's blogs, comment sections, and other blogs they comment on?

Do you regularly read their emails?

I have several concerned parents reaching out to me for answers about a doctrine that is being taught to YOUR girls in the homeschool blogosphere. Ultimately you are responsible for what you allow your daughters(and sons) to read, link to, etc.

You might think it's harmless to communicate with everyone in the homeschool blog community, no matter what they believe in, but your girls may very well be among those who have been getting into a teaching you may not agree with. It is YOUR responsibility to monitor what they are learning in cyber space.

Something that many of us are noticing lately is a swift shift into a realm of cultisms. Dominance teaching and cult followings are at an all time high right now and if you're not careful you or your child could become victim to it. Keep in mind most cults are Bible based, so just because someone says they believe in Jesus and use scripture on their blogs doesn't mean it's automatically safe and free from error.

We all make mistakes in our articles and that's why I recommend open comment sections for discussion. My blogs welcome opinions of others, when done respectfully, and we should be cautious of blogs that block differing beliefs in such a strict manner that it leaves the author in a position of appearing right because 'no one opposes them'. It just may be that those kind of authors are not allowing the comments to pass through.

Parents we really do need to be careful, even in the 'conservative homeschool blogosphere'. You need to make your presence known on your child's blog.

~Comment in the comment section of your child's blog.

~Find out where she/he is commenting and join the same conversations your child is involved with.

~Post as a guest contributor on your child's blog from time to time.

~Add a disclaimer to the bottom signature line of your child's email account that states you monitor their emails.

If your child becomes a victim in a social drama circle, take a stand! You have EVERY right to contact the other parent about the situation occurring in the blogosphere. If you aren't able to get a result to bring peace in a matter, post your stand on your blog and your child's blog. There is absolutely nothing wrong with creating a post that says what you believe in and what you don't believe in. I don't think there's a need for outright naming a person or linking to them in an accusatory post. That just brings more drama. But you can make it known where you stand.

The drama is not limited to blogs. It is also spreading to Twitter and Facebook. I plead with you parents, KNOW what your teens are reading and participating in among these social network sites. Be very sure of what your teen links to in her very own side bar. Double check the beliefs and integrity of those listed in blog rolls and those who own those blog rolls.

Get connected to everyone your teen is connected to on all these sites.

If you have Twitter, add everyone on their Twitter 'following' and 'follower' list. If ANY of those following or followers do not allow YOU, the parent, access to their tweets yet they allow your child, remove your child from following that person and block that person from following your child. If they do allow you access to their twitter page, read through several pages of their tweets. Be sure you know what information they are passing along to your children.

If your teen is on Facebook, do the same. Connect to everyone she is connected to. Anyone who does not allow you access when they have allowed your child access, should be off limits. When they do this it allows them to pass information to your child without you knowing. Make your presence known on their Facebook page. Comment alongside them wherever they are and leave comments on your child's wall. You have the authority and right to make your presence known and to keep your child accountable.

Become very familiar with the settings of all social network sites and utilize the privacy settings. You can even set up your child's blog to send YOU notifications when a comment has been made and you can moderate the comments so you have the ability to approve or reject any comment that is not respectful.

Just as with any youth group your child might be involved with, you are the parent and you have every right and every bit of authority to take a stand for your child. We must do so.

How do you know if your child is following a cult-like blog?

Have you noticed a difference in your child lately that is out of the ordinary?

Does your child adamantly believe that they are not making God happy if they don't adhere to outward appearances?

Is your child trying to make you believe something your family has never believed before?

Is your child becoming judgmental of other people with disdain for them because of their sin?

Is your child isolating themselves from you and your loved ones because they think they need to in order to be right with God?

Have they begun reading other websites and information from books that are out of the ordinary for your family?

Some of these questions could show growth in a good way, but sometimes could be the opposite. Bible based cults seem good on the outside, but you need to really look deep to find out what they are teaching.

For more information about cults and how to identify them read The Culture of Cults and Cult-Like Behavior at GGMagazine. These signs show through blogs as well as churches. Be aware.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Homeschool Blog Awards

Every year I have wondered how to find all the great teen homeschool blogs and sometimes it's hard to find them. There are a lot out there and I think we miss out on seeing them all. It's difficult to make nominations and have a good amount of blogs to choose from when it comes to voting. So GGM is going to help highlight the teen blog categories by introducing you to several teen blogs this month.

So if you know of some teen blogs hop on over to GGM and get the info about those blogs submitted ASAP so when it's time to nominate the readers can have a healthy amount of blogs to choose from.

In the mean time, also be jotting down the homeschool blogs that you love and be ready. Nominating begins October 19. See Heather's announcement here.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

The Birdies Are Tweeting for Me

*This story occurred a couple of years ago...

One day as my son and I arrived at Wal-Mart the birds were chirping, and there were A LOT of birds. So there we were, my son and I, as we were approaching our home away from home, when Timmy asks why they're chirping so much. I sweetly replied with a wink in my eye, that the birdies always chirp for mommy. He looked at me with amazement and asks,"Just like they do for Cinderella?" I couldn't help but to encourage this as I felt so special. "Yes honey, just like Cinderella." (How could I resist?)

Many mornings Timmy awakens before I do, and comes to my room and wakes me with this statement, "Mommy, the birdies are tweeting for you, it's time to wake up." By the way, Timmy wakes up before the sun on most mornings and I have tried 'everything' to get him to sleep in , but no such luck!

So, that morning I had trouble waking up, as I didn't sleep well at all that night. My husband was a dear and closed off all source of light so I could sleep in, just then Timmy walks in. "Mommy, the birdies are tweeting for you, it's time to wake up." As I muster all the strength I can find to open one eyelid, I see his silhouette beside my bed. I whisperly moan to him that I'm tired. He then gently opens one of my hands and places something light and fuzzy in my hand, then whispers excitedly, "Mommy I found a birdie outside."

Startled I try even harder to open my eyes, as my mind races to figure out what he just placed in my hand. "Timmy, what is this?" He whispers again with more exuberance,"I found a birdie outside Mommy!" I gasp and jump to my feet, trying to keep my balance as I feel dizzy from lack of sleep. I stumble to the bathroom to open the door for light. I'm thinking to myself that this birdie is NOT moving and I am fearing what I will see when I open my hand. I just know we're going to need a funeral service for this birdie. How in the world did my son happen upon a dead birdie? I cringed at the thought that he may have crushed this poor birdie as he picked it up. I take one deep breath as I open the door and open my hand, I closed my eyes! I don't know if I can look! I open one eye and see a tiny, fuzzy, curled up CHENILLE stick from Monica's scrapbooking collection. I turned and looked at Timmy as he is giggling with enjoyment, so proud of himself, as he giggles out, "Just tricking you mommy!"

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! "yes, Timmy... you got mommy good." I can't help but to be so proud of him myself as this was the first time he has ever orchestrated such a practical joke and he played it off so well. Quite the 4 year old I have eh?

But he still believes that the birdies are tweeting for 'ME'. ;O)

Timmy is now about to turn 7 years old and he loves when I tell this story.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Back to the Basics of Life Seminar

Alyssa Avant has asked me to speak at her Back to Basics Seminar Series in October. Although, they taught that the earth was billions of years old, I never bought into that idea. I had a basic knowledge of God and that creation was His handy work. I wasn’t raised in church by any means, but I did attend a church for a short time as a third grade girl. I learned that Jesus loved me and learned one memory verse. I occasionally attended various Vacation Bible Schools in the community and enjoyed them immensely!

During my high school years, I attended a local church with a friend for four years, but mostly joined in the youth activities. I don’t recall learning much about the Bible, but I did learn a bit about etiquette from the experiences I had with the youth leaders. My mother would discipline me as a child while growing up in regards to the language I used when I would lose my temper.

When I became an adult and desired to find a church once again, I faced the fact that I really didn’t know much about how to behave myself publicly. I was used to how we behaved growing up in the streets of Los Angeles, and although I knew my behavior was wrong, I didn’t know how to apply any good behavior. The best thing for me at the time was just to be quiet and not talk. If I did talk, it was quite evident that I was a foolish girl with little education in regards to manners.
After I trusted Christ as my Savior, I began to have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I was self-directed in my learning for the first time in my life. Through my years growing up in the public school system I learned what the teachers said I should learn in order to graduate. I always knew I was a smart girl, but I rarely applied it and thus limited my potential. My goals were just to skim by and get out of school. I had no desire to continue with school after my twelfth grade year. I wanted to get a job and make money.

When I was sixteen years old I got a job as a cashier at a local drug store. While I worked there I learned much about working with people and was advanced to the photo department and that is where the seed of photography was deep rooted within my heart. At that time I had a desire to learn about photography and I learned much about cameras, batteries, film, and developing. Having patient co-workers and an employer who saw my potential, they guided me in learning a trade that I could take with me when I moved to Nevada. I wonder where I could have been by the time I was eighteen if I had been directed and taught at a younger age?

Here I was, twenty-one years old, brand new in an old fashioned church, with no manners. Through the first twelve years of being in this church I learned an array of manners and public etiquette from some wonderful Christian ladies. I learned to read my Bible and understand it’s teaching, how to dress professionally, how to speak to others with kindness, and many other socially acceptable speech. My own children were blessed to be able to attend their Christian School for Jessica she attended K-9th grade, Moni attended K-6th grade, and Gina attended K-2nd grade, and repeated K a second time. During those years I was able to volunteer in their school and learn a vast amount of information about how to teach children. I was finding that the same methods of learning and studying my Bible were used to teach the children how to read, write and do arithmetic.

Fast forward to today and I’m now educating my children at home. We are so blessed that our families support us whole heartedly! We have some friends and co-workers in our ministry who are also extremely supportive and positive towards our efforts and lift us up in encouragement for our desire to home educate. However, there’s always a critic.

Some people just don’t understand, maybe they’ve never read about it, or spoken to anyone who homeschooled. Perhaps they knew someone who did homeschool and failed miserably at it. I know there are many people who spread this criticism repeatedly and that does not help the homeschool movement. I feel that not only should homeschooling families set the example for homeschooler’s world wide, but people in general should educate themselves about homeschooling before causing dissension among fellow community citizens. Even more than that, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ should do the same.

As homeschooling families, we have the awesome opportunity to be a witness to our communities, family members, and loved ones in our efforts of home educating our children. Many people ask right away what our curriculum includes. Many home educators will respond with a list of books they’re using. If you’re a faith based home educator I have a verse to share with you.

Daniel 1:4, “Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.”
God shows us in this passage what kind of children the King of Babylon desired to have work for him. In verse 4 he says that he wanted them to teach in his kingdom. Here we have a pagan king who sought out God’s children to come to his aid. Daniel was the son of Abigail, the great peacemaker who was taken into King David’s palace and became his wife. Daniel was raised in the King’s palace with a mother who desires to have peace. If you read about Abigail’s story in the book of 1 Samuel chapter 25, you will learn what a great woman she was. How awesome for Daniel that God allowed her to be his mother!

I believe Daniel was taught how to be a peacemaker like his mother and she must have taught him to love the Lord and live his life to please God. King Nebuchadnezzar desired to have children well favoured, so Daniel must have been well favoured. He was the son of the man whom we all know was called a man after God’s own heart. He must have been qualified to have been brought to the King and Daniel shows his faithfulness to the Lord in his lifestyle, even while living in this kingdom for three years. As you read through the story of Daniel, you will see that he was a true man of God and lived above reproach.
God certainly used Daniel, and his friends, to reach the land of Babylon, by taking a stand in what they believed. It wasn’t their knowledge and understanding of Science that touched the King’s heart, but it did open the door for the amazing opportunity they had to be a light in Nebuchadnezzar’s dark land. Although Daniel was well educated, he also had a walk with God. We can easily see areas in which God wants us to educate our children by verse 4 of Daniel chapter 1.

We have wonderful opportunities to be a light for the Lord when people ask us what we’re teaching our children in our loving home environments. God instructs us how to educate our children in the Bible.

1.A walk with God(Devotions and prayer), “Children in whom was no blemish”

2.People Skills, “well favoured”

3.The Bible, “skilful in all wisdom”

4.Critical Thinking, “cunning in knowledge”

5.Science, “understanding science” and not just the facts of Science, but understanding it.

6.Manners, “ability in them to stand in the king's palace”

7.Language Arts & Reading, “they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans”

8.Math can be found throughout the Bible. God used specific mathematical equations in his commands to building his temples, Jesus counting and grouping the people, Noah building the ark and counting the animals, etc.

9.Writing, the Bible also shows how important writing is, as the men who penned the Bible needed to know how to write.

10.Health, throughout the Bible God teaches us how to eat healthy.

11.Physical Education is also throughout the Bible and he makes it clear that we are to work hard, even the Virtuous Woman exercised. Proverbs 31:17, “She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.”

12.A Trade, Jesus was a carpenter, the Virtuous Woman made clothing, Adam and Eve were gardeners, etc.

13.History, The Bible is loaded with History and God instructs us to be familiar with past events when we read that the King Ahasuerus summoned the records to be read to him.

14.Geography, the Bible is full of geography! Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” He commands us to go into the entire world and teach people about Him.

There are a variety of ways a parent can educate their children at home. I choose to use God’s Word as the Basis for our home education. I believe education comes from the Lord and it is an incredible opportunity to share the Love of Christ with others through our homeschooling lifestyle.

Take a Step Back

Colossians 2:8, "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

Different people have different views when it comes to education, as I have previously as well. Although recently I have been taking a step back and re-evaluating the concept of education in the world today. As I read through history and learn about education among society in different cultures I keep coming back to see what the Bible says. God was specific when He taught us that we should educate our children with His Word.

The above verse from Colossians admonishes us to 'beware' of men spoiling us through 'philosophy and vain deceit'. The term 'spoiling' is not in reference to being given more than we have need of, as we would think of a child who gets everything his heart desires. The word spoil is in regards to diminishing, much like a spoiling tomato.

He cautions us not to follow the 'traditions of men', or after the 'rudiments of this world'. We could go into depth about education and God's Word yet I won't be going any deeper than this for today. What I am concerned about is the direction our public schools are going with America's children.

I would like to admonish all parents who have their children in a public school to take a closer look at what is developing in the mindset of the nations schools. Take a step back and think about how we fight a spiritual battle. The enemy is not going to aim for grown, mature adults who already have their minds made up about the Lord; He will aim for our weakest position, our children. Just as Adolf Hitler was aiming to control the minds of his nations children, to raise them up in his philosophies, so the enemy still seeks to destroy the minds of the next generation.

I try to look at life from that spiritual point of view as well as logically. I think about how an enemy works their strategies in a war, a battle, and think about how our very own enemy works the same way. The ol' devil knows he has but a short time and he's not about to back away from his plan.

Parents, take a closer look at our world today, let's not be blinded by the surface of this world, let's look at the root of the problems we see in our world today. The root of the problem is sin, sent from the enemy himself, he has a mission. His mission is to cripple Christians and destroy the image of God in the minds of the lost. If he can become successful in crippling Christians to not stand up for God's Word and teach about Salvation by grace through faith; and destroy the minds of the lost from ever wanting to seek God, then what is going to happen to our nation?

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

TOS for $7.95 Limited Time

Attention Ladies,

The OldSchoolhouse is offering a special deal for a LIMITED time only. They have oodles of recipes that are $5 for a family meal. (give or take depending on the size of your family) Anyway, they are running a promotion and giveaway for one of my FAVORITE lines of kitchen products, Pampered Chef! Not only am I introducing you to their blog because I REALLY want to win this, but because it truly looks like a blog you'd want to bookmark as you plan your family dinners.

I mean, we all want to save a dime right? Maybe I should create a listing for home making blogs that I simply love and can help all of us save a bit more out of our wallets. ;O) This one would definitely be included! So come meet Erin Chase, the 5 Dollar Dinner Mom and take a look at those fabulous 5 dollar recipes!

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Joy

Teri Lynne is asking what makes us joyful today in her 100th post celebration. She has many friends and sisters in our Lord who are also sharing their joy with all of us. So come on over and be joyful with us.

For me, I find happiness in holding my son in my arms, brushing my daughter's hair and braiding it for her, studying God's word with my other daughter and quiet times with my oldest teen daughter. Getting to bed early with my husband so we can fellowship uninterrupted and catching up with friends. But as far as true joy, a joy I thought I once had, but now I know I didn't really have it like I have it now. A true joy that only comes from the natural manifestation of Christ my Lord. Knowing He is with me every moment of the day, being able to commune with Him any time I want. I just love Him so much. I look forward to the day when we can love Him in perfection, without this fallible body and mind. He is my joy.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Homeschool Carnival: Virtual Blog Conference

Welcome to our Homeschool Carnival Virtual Blog Conference! (Well, a mock conference anyway) This week we are going to partake in each other's homeschool through this virtual blog conference. There's a bit of something for each of you, including a Hot Topics Itinerary. This is homeschool for you, mom and dad! So grab a cup of coffee from over there>>>> at the coffee station, get your mouse ready for bookmarking your favorites on this tour and don't be afraid to ask questions. <there>

Each 'teacher' has something special to share with you. Each of these teachers have homeschooled or are still homeschooling and we can glean a lot if we'll just be open to what each has to contribute. You just may find a few questions along the way, from fellow homeschooling parents. You're very welcome to comment as needed to help out, we're all participants this week. These are categorized in sessions and each link will change colors once you've visited them. You may want to clean out your cookies BEFORE you begin and do NOT clean them out until you are done. This way you'll know what sessions you have already completed. This is a long one so you may need to 'attend' each session at different times.

*Before you get started we ask that you 'register' by commenting below to let us know you are in 'attendance'. (If you choose not to comment that's okay too, but that 'My Name Is' sticker is helpful in getting to know each other.) If you are one of our 'teachers' please be sure to put on your button (on your blog) to let everyone know that these sessions have begun. We want to be sure everyone gets a chance to enjoy the time we're about to have with one another. Be sure to get through the entire 'conference' for a chance to win an Ebook.
</there>

~Session One~
Behavior/Socialization:
Kris from Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers teaches us how to get your children not to dawdle in her behavior and motivation tip.

Dawn of HomeschoolDawn also shares her tips for Behavioral Management, using marbles.

Bleu at Little Red Homeschool encourages parents of busy little boys to just let the boys be boys, You know, those little guys with ants in their pants, be flexible with those busy kids.

Katie from the Homeschool Cottage shares her tips for teens who need socialization.

These ladies have great tips for your homeschool behavioral management.

~Session Two~
Health:
Lara from the Texas Homesteader has a good lesson in helping those little ones who are picky eaters, while Teresa from Higher Education shares her creative study on intestine health. Well, for me it's simple. It's not about how many followers you have, but how well you communicate with the ones you have.

I have noticed that out of hundreds of friends, very few actually reply back. Most of the time I felt as though I was Tweeting all alone. So just how do you build relationships with people in 140 characters or less? Here are some tips I have found helpful.

-Be genuine, no one likes a fake Twitter friend.

-If you see a quote and like it, RT!(Retweet) It means Pass It On. This is how you RT:
RT @yourfriendsname "their tweet"

-If RTing causes the tweet to be longer than 140 characters, see if you can shorten it without losing the context of the message. Ex: U= You, R= Are 2=To or Two, or too, etc

-Don't add people just to get your name out there. Only add those you really desire to get to know. Relationships are built over time and so much the more if you're only utilizing 140 characters.

-Once you've made a new Twitter friend, visit their blog, if they have one.

-Be sure to log into Twitter on Fridays. When friends use the hashtag for Follow Friday, watch who they're tweeting out. Most likely it's their friends that actually reply back. Go see who they are. If you have something in common, add them. #FF or #FollowFriday

-After adding a friend, thank the one who introduced you and include the new friend's name. Does anyone else notice the similarities between these dictators and what the US is in the midst of today? Do we not see the warning signs? Has American gone to sleep? What do you think has caused America to go to sleep?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the public school teachers have highly recommended their most creative students to be put on medication. Why would they do that? Perhaps because they lacked the training needed to guide these young geniuses to their potential. Perhaps these teachers had their own agenda from their philosophical ideas to educate OUR nation's children to follow THEIR goal for the nations future. But wait just a second, what about the parents? Where have all the parents gone? Are they so busy working long hours that they didn't take the time to find out what exactly their school boards passed into their educational syllabuses? Maybe the parents are partying on their own free time and leaving their kids up to the community to raise.

No, I'm not coming down on the teachers of the public schools or the parents of the children, not only them at least. What about the preachers and Sunday School teachers in 'churches' today? What are they doing? The children are left to themselves, teachers planting their ideas in their heads, parents combating that with providing video games to keep them occupied, and religious leaders offering to 'help the parents bring up better kids' but they're indoctrinating them with institutionalized dogma that is very one sided. I'm not talking about the knowledge of Jesus being one sided, I'm talking about the denominational differences that further divide families.

It's no wonder the nation's children are so confused! No wonder America has gone to sleep. She's tired of the bickering, so she tunes it all out. But I heard a quote last night, I'm not sure where it originated from, but it hit me. This quote came from a leader in our recovery ministry. He was talking about being tired. He said this about ministry, "We may get tired from it, but we're not tired OF it." A tiny bit of background for ya: helping addicts get clean is a tiresome job, but well worth it. Can we say the same about raising our own children and educating them ourselves? We may get tired from it, but not tired OF it. It's not the government's job to educate our children. It's NOT the 'church's' job to introduce our children to Jesus Christ. Even if you don't believe in Jesus it's not the 'church's' job to teach our children manners either. It's OUR job.

Many may think the church is doing a good job teaching others about Christ and how to live by the golden rule, but are they really? Our nation is at an all time high for immorality and crime. It doesn't look like they're doing the job correctly. So what is wrong with this nation? What is it that makes this fight so hard? Are we so tired OF it that we've given up?

When public education began it was for the purpose of providing education for the poor. They wanted everyone to have the right to be educated. So, parents trusted the system to educate their children. Look where it's gotten us. We may be in the lead pack of the race for technology, but what is that when it's coupled with immoral, selfish liars who only seek control of the world? With all the technological advances, what good does it do if the wrong people are in control of such power?

Let's look at the quotes of past masterminds of control, power, and reflect upon what they did with that knowledge and power:

It is the absolute right of the state to supervise the formation of public opinion.
~ Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Minister of Propaganda

A totalitarian state will give its youth to no one, but will itself take youth and give to youth its own education and its own upbringing.
~ Adolf Hitler

The education of all children, from the moment that they can get along without a mother's care, shall be in state institutions at state expense.
~ Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto

What luck for rulers that men do not think.
~ Adolf Hitler

The state will take youth and will give to youth its own education and its own upbringing. Your child already belongs to us... What are you?
~ Adolf Hitler

The aim of totalitarian education has never been to instill convictions but to destroy the capacity to form any.
~ Hannah Arendt

The battle for humankind's future must be won in the public schools by teachers who correctly perceive their role as proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old & the new, the rotting corpse of Christianity with all its adjacent evils & misery, and the new faith.
~ John Dunphy, The Humanist magazine

Parents give up their rights when they drop the children off at public school.
~ Melinda Harmon, U.S. Federal Judge, 1996

A tax supported, compulsory educational system is the complete model of the totalitarian state.
~ Isabel Patterson, The God of the Machine

Now what is the purpose of all this?

The plain fact is that education is itself a form of propaganda - a deliberate scheme to outfit the pupil, not with the capacity to weigh ideas, but with a simple appetite for gulping ideas ready-made. The aim is to make 'good' citizens, which is to say, docile and uninquisitive citizens.
~ H. L. Mencken

Far from failing in its intended task, our educational system is in fact succeeding magnificently because its aim is to keep the American people thoughtless enough to go on supporting the system.
~ Richard Mitchell, The Underground Grammarian

Yes, I do think America has gone to sleep. Parents, wake up! You no longer need the public school to educate your children. Education is available for FREE to all people. Even the poorest of households in America have the internet, a local library with computers, and the desire needed to get an education. When I began homeschooling I found MOST of my support and resources from homeschool blogs.

There are some that are very resourceful and I found them extremely helpful. But you know what? It took me a long time to find the ones with the best info categorized neatly in their side bars or navigation. I have a list of some of the best homeschool sites and blogs that I have found over the past three years. I also want to encourage all homeschool mom bloggers to update their blogs and get organized with the info you found to be valuable to you. When I review a homeschool blog I look for specific things. Let's all take another look at our blogs and see what we could update and make it easier for low income families to get the help they need to educate their own children.

In closing I am thinking about the story of Sleeping Beauty. She was placed under a curse that put her in a deep coma. Her prince, madly in love with her, fought to free her. The dragon so large and overwhelming, but he did NOT give up! Three tiny fairies aided in his rescue and the desire in his very own heart was all it took for him to face and slay that mighty dragon to free his bride. When we come together to aid one another in achieving the freedom we so desperately need and want, our desire will keep us going, fight the battle. You'll get tired from it, but don't you dare get tired OF it.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Is ADD/ADHD a Curse or a Gift?

With several extended family members and friends whose doctors say they are ADD and need medication, I am more convinced now than ever before that ADD is a false label on those who are actually quite gifted. I believe they need guidance and direction to focus in on their gift and propel forward to be able to function in the reality of their unique lives.

My husband and daughter both display some key behaviors associated with ADD. Neither one of them take meds. They are gifted and pursue the areas that they are good at. They are mulit-taskers with a passion for adventure. They are creative, inspirational, and highly motivated.

I believe it is us that needs the training to be able to show them how to harness the power they really have to excel. The ADD label came from the public school, that should tell us a lot right there. The fact is this, a parent whose children have these 'symptoms' didn't know what to do, because the teachers didn't know how to guide them into their potential. In my opinion that's just a small part of the problem. It's not the teacher's job or the doctor's job to do anything about this, it's the parent's responsibility.

As a homeschooling mom it is our responsibility, and an amazing opportunity, to show that our children are not to be labeled and given meds due to the teachers lack of wisdom in training a young person's life. No, I am not a doctor, nor a psychologist, but I am a believer in Jesus Christ and God told us, through Paul, that we can do all things through Christ. He strengthens us. He also strengthens our children. Why should our children grow up and live under a lie that tells them they are cursed with ADD? Did Jesus not end all the curses when he offered us His grace? Is ADD really a curse or just a lazy label placed on gifted children by teacher's who lack faith in Christ?

Is it a curse or a gift? More to come....

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Sign Language Ebook and Classes

I am currently working on my Sign Language Ebook for homeschoolers who are interested in getting a basic introductory knowledge of the language and culture. The Ebook will include a lesson plan and the lesson assignments. You will be using an online ASL dictionary to practice the signs and I will set up online quizzes for the students. I am amazed at how her talent is used to minister to the hearts of the people in the audience. She receives a standing ovation. You can see the passion she has in her own heart as you watch her in this video. It's a must see and a great way to get the conversation started with your homeschool student for History class.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Prelude to a Blog

'Prelude to a Blog' is a small Ebook written for homeschool mom's who are contemplating getting their child into blogging. Ruth sent this out via Twitter and I just HAVE to share it here. For my deaf friends I am sad that this clip of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan is not CC, but in short Anne explains how Helen can feel the vibrations of the sounds in Anne's speech by placing her hand and fingers on the larynx, lips, and nose.

At the end of the video, Helen speaks a sentence where she says "I'm not dumb now." My girls and I watched this video and at the end we all applauded Helen! How exciting for her! Anne was a tremendous friend to Helen. Are you this kind of friend to someone else?

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Daily Routine

Darcy has posted the fourth week of the Not So Back to School Blog Hop, although I have already been homeschooling since the beginning of August. I shared our Curriculum, School Room, and School Pictures. This week we are all sharing our daily <s>schedule</s> routine. ((shudder)) I dislike schedules. They remind me of compulsory schooling. :/

I personally wake up at about 6 am so I can get in some quiet time before the kiddles wake up. Boot up the computer while getting my coffee and I begin the laundry. This is my morning time to be with our Lord and check all my online <s>work</s> fun.

We generally have breakfast together as a family by 8am then clean up and begin our educational time. Each child has their workbox to get into. We allow them to choose the order of their curriculum on their own, as long as it's done by 12 for lunch.

I teach at The Sarah Home Monday through Wednesday at 1pm so they get some chores done while I'm away for that hour. (So nice that it's right down the street) When I get back I check to make sure all their work is done and after that we fly by the seat of our pants for the rest of the day.

The last week of the month is a bit busy since we're publishing the current issue of Growing in Grace Magazine. This requires more time for studies for our articles and graphic design. Jess is now my co-editor and Moni is assisting by making all the signatures. We're looking forward to September's issue as we are in the middle of a remodel. You may have noticed that we altered this blog a bit by adding a Homeschool Ministry to aid low income families with homeschool needs. This coming Saturday is also going to be our annual fund raising banquet for our recovery ministry for women (and the men) so the girls are practicing their song with Miss Lucy. This trio will be singing for our Lord at this 600+ person event. I'm hoping to get a good video of them singing for next Sunday's Praise and Worship meme at GGM.

I don't have a video of our day or photos necessarily, but I'll share a random photo anyway, because I think these flowers are quite cheery! I hope you have a GREAT day!

↑ Grab this Headline Animator

Homeschool Sponsorship Ministry

If you have read my blog for any length of time you'll know I do my best to find free educational resources and websites that aid low income families in their homeschooling adventures. Sometimes a family needs a bit more help than that. I am an advocate for creativity in teaching and do not limit myself to textbooks alone. I enjoy workbooks for the younger children and while those are not too pricey, for some families it is a stretch. I would like to invite you to be a part of this ministry simply by purchasing ad space on this blog.

*If you would like to help promote this homeschool ministry, but not invest in ad space, you can grab the code at the bottom of this post, place it in a visible place on your site and leave a comment with your link in the comment section. I will then add your blog link to my supporter link directory. (coming soon)

**If you know of a homeschooling family in dire need of sponsorship, please let me know.
contact {at} TheHomeSpunLife.com

In order for a family to qualify for for sponsorship we will need to send them an application for them to fill out, be willing to have a phone interview, and then we pray.

I have decided to take sponsors here at TheHomeSpunLife and for the ad space you invest in, it helps aid families in need for homeschooling supplies. Supplies might include, but are not limited to: curriculum, reading books, educational website subscriptions, Internet service, computers, ink for home printers, Homeschool Legal Defense Membership, field trip opportunities, etc.

If you are a company that would like to donate any of the above mentioned to a homeschool family in need then just contact me via email and you can offer products as a giveaway to one reader in a giveaway program that promotes more followers for this homeschool ministry blog and for your business.

Why should I participate in this program? What makes it different from other ministries of support?

As we all work together to promote this program the following results are projected to occur:

1. Our readers will see your generosity and be more inclined to invest their homeschool dollars with a company that gives back.

2. Our readers will want to be faithful readers, anticipating the news of more families being assisted and looking forward to the giveaways.

3. All our giveaways require the entrants to publicize your product on their own blogs and various networks in order to qualify to win. This will network out your products and company to many more readers and potential customers.

4. The satisfaction of knowing you're not just paying for advertising on yet another blog, but knowing those funds are helping low income homeschool families.

5. You'll be a part of something bigger than just marketing your own business.

6. This is a great way to network with other homeschool companies and families who also want to make a difference in the homeschool community.

7. It has been proven that when like-minded, visionary people come together they see explosive results!

8. When you give, it gets given back. We all learn the importance of 'paying it forward' and see the benefits of the joy it brings to the lives of others.

9. Giving produces a thankful spirit.

10. More customers/followers for all of us.

I am particular in what companies and websites I will allow as sponsors on my site. Here are my guidelines:

1. For Companies: I will take companies of faith, but not a company that discredits God's Word. This means I do not limit my sponsors to being of faith.

2. For Bloggers: If you would like to help sponsor families by investing in ad space on my blog for your blog, I will accept that considering you agree to my statement of faith and take the Blog with Grace Pledge. and/or Blog with Integrity Pledge. (If you've already taken the pledge I will need to check their petition directory for your information) If you'd like to help spread the word about this program we will provide you with a Supporter Button for your blog.

*You need not be a sponsor of faith, so long as your websites do not belittle faith in God through Jesus Christ.

Size ads I accept:

Button ads are 125x125

Banner ads are no larger than 468x60

Placement:

Button Ads: The top portion of my right side bar will host button ads for up to 6 companies/bloggers each month. You can secure any specific amount of time you choose, upon agreement with me. If you pay monthly, your ad will not renew unless you contact me 10 days before your month expires.

Monthly Sponsorship $20

Three Month Sponsorship $50

Six Month Sponsorship $95

One Year Sponsorship $200

Blog Post Banner Ads: These are placed within each blog post under my signature:

Monthly Sponsorship: $15

Three Month Sponsorship $40

Six Month Sponsorship $80

One Year Sponsorship $150

Top Banner: This will be displayed at the top of my blog just below the shelf of geraniums.

Monthly Sponsorship: $25

Three Month Sponsorship: $70

Six Month Sponsorship: $125

One Year Sponsorship $250

Header Banner: This will go directly under my header of this blog. This position will hold two banners (companies)

Monthly Sponsorship: $30

Three Month Sponsorship: $80

Six Month Sponsorship: $170

One Year Sponsorship $340

Payments: I take Paypal for payment of ad space upon agreement via email:
contact {at} TheHomeSpunLife.com
Subject Line: Homeschool Ad Sponsor

Families in Need: Sponsored Families need not be bloggers, but we do require adding a small bio of the family (last name will not be published online), including their photo. Our sponsors like to know who they're helping. We also ask for semester updates on your child's progress, which will be published on this blog and linked on your bio page for the duration of your sponsorship enrollment. Items purchased for these families will be listed as sponsorships become available.

*These Terms and Conditions are subject to updating at my discretion, but not during a sponsorship duration. Any updates will apply upon renewal of your sponsorship. As much as I like to introduce you to free and affordable homeschool websites and resources, sometimes there are still needs for a family who homeschools or would like to get started. Please keep us in your prayers as we finalize the details of this needful ministry! This homeschool ministry is unlike any other, because all of us can help with this endeavor! And it's a win-win situation! Not only will you be able to help a family with a homeschool need, but you will also be on the receiving end yourself.

This homeschool ministry will be a blogosphere effort and bring us all together in a community effort, solidifying our fellowship online and propelling the homeschool community in a positive direction forward. This ministry effort has the potential to bring an explosive amount of support to all of us. Keep an eye out for the upcoming announcement.

↑ Grab this Headline Animator
